.:.The Beast

When it first opened on April 14th, 1979, The Beast debuted as the longest, tallest, fastest roller coaster in the world. Now, more than 20 years later, this classic wooden coaster is still tearing through the terrain of Southern Ohio, covering more ground than any other wooden coaster on the planet.

This revolutionary scream machine roars at speeds of over 65 miles per hour through dense woods and rocky ravines, while traveling through underground tunnels and a 570° helix!

The Beast rides on 7,400 feet of track, more than any other woodie, and has been voted the best wooden roller coaster in many polls year after year. This record holder is a definite "must ride" on any coaster lover's journey to Paramount's Kings Island.

Central Tip: A trip to PKI would be incomplete without tackling The Beast after dark! One of the best night time rides in the world!

I noticed that you had Charlie Dinn listed as Designer of The Beast. Dinn was head of construction on The Beast Project. Al Collins should get credit with the design, along with Jeff Gramke, Jim Nickell, and William Reed.

The Beast is the ultimate coaster. This coaster can never be topped. It has the perfect environment. I don't know how to describe it, but it is, and always will be, the best coaster. I love the new steel coasters, but the Beast is just the ultimate coaster experience. Definitely a night time experience also! DO NOT EVER DISMANTLE THE BEAST! THIS CREATURE SHOULD LIVE FOREVER!

The beast will probly be my new favorite roller coaster at kings island since they took the loop out of son of beast

Personally, I think they ruined the ride when they put the magnetic trims on the ride a few years back.
Before then, the best time to ride the Beast was during, or after a shower of rain. When the old trims would get wet, they did a poor job of slowing down the train, which made the excitement of the ride go up ten fold.

you need 2 ride in the front seat it is the best

OMG, this ride is the greatest! I took my seventh graders there just yesterday, and it's our tradition to ride that as soon as they get in the park! They love it!

when i first rode it i was scared cuz it was my first big roller coaster. luckly i got l laft cuz one of my friends hat almost fell off. when i was done i got another friend and rode it again. later i rode it in the back train. don't do that. if u don't believe me then try it 4 your self.
Cody Johnson :

They did not ruin the ride when they put the magnatic trims on the brakes. They did this because in 2000 after a rain storm a train faild to brake completly witched caused the train to collide with a train in the station and caused a broken leg on one passenger.

I don't understand why they make changes after 1 little accident. Stuff like that happens. They should get over it
c.j. :
Posted 475 days ago
well they did have like 7 killings,a really drunk woman fell like 90 ft. off the flight commander,a 19 year old fell off the eiffel tower, another persons hat fell into a pond and tried to get it and got electrocuted along with 2 other guys who tried to go in and save him, a construction worker fell to his death in the construction of FoF, and another woman had a heart attack on top gun. So no wonder they worry over the little things.

The Beast is "THE RIDE" for anyone looking for one great thrill. I never get tired of it. It just seems to get better each time I ride it. The steel coasters are great, but the woodies are the greatest. May the Beast live forever!!!!!

ur right c.m. That is my favorite ride because it was my first big coaster.

hey do you guys ever wonder out of curiosoty what might happen if a train was running on the beast and it fell?
tiggerow@bright.net :
Posted 464 days ago
I already know. They would do what they did to the SOB. Put on lighter cars and take out the loop.
angryemobeaver :
Posted 463 days ago
The Beast doesn't have a loop.
c.m. :
Posted 462 days ago
The Beast doesn't need a loop. It GROWLS without one. I was going to go to KI yesterday, but called before I went. Glad I did call. They said the Beast was down temporarily due to some problems. With the Beast down, SOB still not running, the drop Zone down for inspection, and no telling what else they may have down, I decided to stay home. When you got that many major rides down, the lines at others would be even longer. They're long enough as it is.
Ryan :

I agree that it doesn't need a looop, it is still the best ride made.

I haven't seen a lot of it in this forum (surprisingly) but for those of you who might have been a little beat up by THE BEAST: Next time sit in one of the center seats of a car. Each car on THE BEAST seats six people, divided by three rows. It is in the center row of any car (regardless of the car's position in the train, really) that you will find the smoothest ride. This is also true on the Twin Racer, as it has identical cars. SOB used to be the same way, and this website's page still says so, but beware that it's "new" trains have only two rows of seats, seating only 4 per car, obviously not having a "center" row to sit in. As for the front and back seats of BEAST's cars, the back sits right on a wheel, so is invariably the roughest set of seats on the ride. The front seat of a car lies (at least for me) inbetween those two comfort levels. Obviously the front of the train overall is a little smoother, and the back, as most know is the roughest. If you really want your ass handed to you (And I mean REALLY) sit in the last car, in the last seat, and on the right hand side at 15 minutes before the park closes when it is dark. Not only will you have a nice rough ride, but you won't even be able to see what hit you! And like many have and will say . . . BEAST IS THE BEST RIDE IN THE PARK AFTER DARK!
PS c.j.:
You shouldn't believe everything you see, hear and read about amusement parks. A lot of that stuff is based on unconfirmed reports and a lot of time isn't true. I believe the TOP GUN incident is true, a lady supposedly ignored the heart trouble warning on the sign by the ride's entrance and had a heart attack. But as for a 19 year old falling off the Eiffel tower -- That is completely illogical to me. That has to be one of the most impossible things that you can possibly do, especially since the biggest gap for anything to fall through is only 4.5 inches. If it did happen somehow, it must've happened like 30 years ago, and likely didn't happen at all.

My 8 year old daughter and I just rode The Beast on Tuesday and I have to say it is insane!! She was speechless, except to say she had a headache and I'm still nursing bruises. I would have to say it was a thrilling ride and I can't believe how fast it was.

The Beast is the best wooden roller coaster i've ever ridden. The first drop feels like you're floating. the rest of the ride is great . It is somewhat rough but it makes the ride better. If it was smooth the ride would feel short and boring. The logo is Beastly. You go so fast that when you pop into the tunnel You don't know what happened. The second lift hill definitely makes the helix better. Halfway through the lift hill you tilt sideways and when you fly through the helix you think you're going to hit the side. at the end of the ride you just want to get back on the ride. The line is long on weekends, sometimes up to six hours. but during the week the lines are as low as 30 miutes or less. A must ride if you are at the park.

The Beast is AWESOME. But I now have many bruises, and I had a headache after the ride, my neck hurts and my back is killing me. This is the day after I went to Kings Island, lol. But I'm not sure if the back and neck injuries are from the Beast or from riding all the rides 2-3 times. lol. Either way, I'm proud of my injuries cause riding the Beast was amazing!

I rode the Beast on Friday. I grew up riding this ride, and was utterly disappointed. I remember the sense of recklessness, like it was out-of-control.
We reached the top of the first chain-lift, and just as we head down the first hill, I spot the brakes on the track. Then, I feel them slow us down... Once we reach the bottom of the hill and turn the corner, the ride starts to get exciting, but before we go through the series of small hills before the straight-away, another set of brakes slow us down again. The only positive thing that I can say about the ride is that there were no brakes at the top of the 2nd lift hill that I could feel. The double-helix with the tunnel was still good, but we didnt even care to ride a 2nd time that day cause the rest of the ride felt so "throttled back".
In comparison, the SOB was running part of the day. The loop was gone, but the fun was not. :) The thing was fast, rough, and reminded me of the Beast when the Beast was not throttled back. The only thing that kept me from riding it a 3rd time was the soreness of my neck. :)
Does anyone think the Beast could be physically moved over to Nickelodeon land? Seriously, the Beast is awefully lame these days. I honestly had no desire to ride it again.

I went to KI two days ago. I rode the Beast twice that day. Once in the daytime and once at night. I have to say it was like a totally different ride at night. I'll probably never ride it again in the daytime because it was not worth it. At night it was a whole different experience. The whole atmosphere of the ride being back in the woods, it's pitch dark just makes for an awesome ride. When I rode that day I sat in the first seat of the last car. The woman who worked there told me the second seat is the smoothest seat of the ride. The only thing I don't like about the Beast is I always think my arms are going to get ripped off when I go into a tunnel. Especially if you're sitting in the inside seat. I also rode the SOB and I have to say the only thing that ride did was give me a big headache for the rest of the day. The Beast is by far my favorite all time ride(if rode at night).

Okay, this one's a classic. You can't beat it. (At least with a wooden coaster) Best days to ride it are strange days, such as tuesday. (Yea, I go on the days the park is least crowded.) I once rode it 5 times in a row walking right on each time, at most only having to wait for the next train to pull up. Totally awesome! (That trick works on pretty much any ride [usually not new rides though]) I've had the season pass to this park every year except last year and so I've riden it plenty of times. IT ROCKS!!!!!!!! Never go on a holiday because the wait is way too long. (I never want to wait an hour for a ride.)

I got season passes this year and I made a huge mistake. I decided that beast didn't look that scary of a ride. So I put it on my goal to ride.
the next day we went i thought that I should ride it first thing. When me and my dad were half way in line my dad said. By the way did you know this was the most intense ride in the park? Then I freaked out, rode it, and ever since it has been my favorite ride!
- chimpy2000
p.s. before this i didn't like riding bigger rides
p.s. again. I'm only eleven
