  1. THE_BEASTmaster, I am deeply sorry for my inaccessible link. I have corrected the issue, but to save you from scrolling back up, here is the link again. http://www.ksee24.co...-140604273.html As you have 160 more posts than I do, your words of "better luck next time" really inspire me to reach for the stars, as it were (although, I'd be unable to if I had ridden the roller coaster in question!), and I look forward to the day, with much anticipation, that I may have two dots under my Avatar as well. I just realized, once I post this, you'll only be up on me by 159! Look out!

  2. I've been a fan of that page since the beginning. I know Son of Beast will never be restored to us, but it's a fun little community of Kings Island fans on Facebook.

  5. You'll find many, many, many of the "naive" posters on Facebook willing to blindly get behind this cause because they want their big, tall, coaster back. Most of the members here are at least somewhat literate in terms of industry players, cost vs. benefit analyses, etc. People here don't just say, "YEAH MAN SAVE SOB SAVE SOB." It's not that we know everything (because God knows we don't) but we do recognize that there's more to it than just putting the loop back and opening it. There's tens of millions of dollars worth of decisions to make on a ride that's already cost tens of millions of dollars. Then there's opinions of those in charge, the marketability of the ride even after a re-build, the safety of the ride, insurance rates, demolition vs. reconstruction, estimates from manufacturers... Even when we're not privy to the exact information, we're aware that those variables exist and thus look at it much more realistically than just "OMG BEST RIDE EVER OMGOMG YEAH MAN OPEN IT AGAIN." An actual post from the "Save Son of Beast" Facebook page linked to earlier: So now, Cedar Fair's official Facebook page had a status asking for people to comment on "their favorite ride that [someone had been] hurt or killed on." And when this poster said "Son of Beast," Cedar Fair replied that it may return in 2014... Is there a quadruple facepalm I can borrow? This is also why I have often rallied for people here to just stay away from Kings Island's Facebook. It's much, much, much simpler that way. Let them believe what they need to. No reason for us to get bent out of shape trying to fight that. Also, someone suggested that Bluegrass Boardwalk might be in talks to buy Son of Beast from Kings Island. Over and out, guys...

  7. Read again. RADIER is not an old name. Not even downtown. And not everyone uses the old names. I doubt Mr. Schied does, for instance.

  8. What was TOMB RADIER? And why are we yelling?

  9. First off I was just kidding. I didn't have time to put a smiley emoticon up; I was running late for work. Secondly like everyone else is saying this was a stunt/hoax or what ever you call it. I was being sarcastic since I knew about it too. I apologize for saying it like that and I hope there are no hard feelings.

  11. The US has become such a sue happy & ultra sensitive society (with practically everything- Billy Crystal's Sammy Davis Jr. spoof at the Oscars come to mind), no park or marketing firm would even think it. http://www.eurweb.com/2012/03/sammy-davis-kid-dad-wouldnt-mind-billy-crystals-blackface/

  12. I would Interpret that as a very cerebral response! Bravo! Having not ridden the coaster myself, I can gladly extend a warm hand of welcome! Enjoy!

  13. Awesome article my friend. I have to say, it makes me cringe to think of the work that will have to go into each ride to bring them up to standard, to operate again. Its amazing the damage that the open weather can do to these structures without any kind of preventative or active maintenance. For instance, I cannot believe that the trains were left on Thunder Road. To pass a state inspection, each attraction is going to need very thorough attention.

  14. Oh the irony.... A member on an amusement park enthusiast forum that chose the name CedarPointer posting about generic names..... It's a joke from Paddlewheel Excursions!

  15. Besides, it could have been named Wave Pool Too. I'd have liked that!

  16. thanks again, couple of thoughts... The Racer looked much better in 1974 than it does today with that pain job, as has been mentioned several times. I wonder the cost premium would be to add the red/blue coloring to the job next time they give it a paint job? I doubt the lawyers would allow KI to maintain the 1974 fence job, which is kind of unfortunate. those 2 issues aside, I do wonder if you took 10 steps back in both the 1974 picture and the current photo if today's picture wouldn't look "better". The greenery around the turn is better today than what shows in the 74 picture.

  17. Compared to what they used to be circa 2008, I don't think the tunnels are too bad. They're on their way back to what they were, though.

  18. The tunnels are, to quote Sir Charles Barkley, turrible. I do not know what the thinking was behind that. One can hope that a fresh coat of red, white, and blue paint this offseason will freshen the old girl up. Removing the silly tunnels is probably too much to ask.
