  1. I'll believe it when I see it. Financing is no small hurdle. If you were a lender, would you want to back a park that has failed twice and been on the losing end of a multi-million dollar lawsuit?

  5. It's been comfrimed via KI's Facebook page, that Thunder Alley has been retired. I'm sure it's all for the future expansion of the SOB land. Everything has a long term plan. I'm thinking that where we will see a new roller coaster station pop up. I can at least dream, and hope it comes true.

  7. If I had $200 for every development near Cincinnati in the past twenty years that talked about building a movie theatre, I'd have enough money to actually build one. Bowling Alley? That's a past time steadily declining in American society and one not typically associated with luxury entertainment and vacationing - unless it's ala "Star Lanes" in Newport. Keep in mind, that what they're proposing isn't a rival amusement park or experience similar to Coney Island. It's not like they'd cause Coney to go out of business due to competition. Could we hear who these sources are and do you have a link to the marina plans? I'd love to see those/hear more about that. I'd take their press releases with a grain of salt. This is a "racino," not a full scale casino or anything like seen in Las Vegas. Las Vegas has tons of entertainment options for multiple demographics. I doubt there's going to be consumer demand for a luxury hotel at a site where you can gamble on horses and play slots. Coney seems safe. I'd say the bigger issue is where do they plan to park all these people when they build on the existing lots?

  10. So last night I couldn't sleep. As usual when I can't sleep, I watch something on Netflix. Recently, I just started watching Star Trek: Deep Space Nine. I was a huge fan of Star Trek: The Next Generation growing up and I've seen Star Trek: Voyager all the way through, so finally watching Deep Space Nine seemed like a good thing to do. So far the series has been good. Last night, I started season two around 5 AM. The episode, entitled "The Homecoming" deals with Major Kira going to the planet Cardassia to rescue prisoners of war from her planet. Herself and Chief Miles O` Brien infiltrate a Cardassian Labor Camp. The episode aired on September 26, 1993. Here's a still from the episode: Recognize anything familiar? Probably not. In a way I'm a bit embarrassed to mention that I noticed this, but it's still kind of interesting. In the above image, the random sphere objects at the "labor camp" can be seen in person at Kings Island: Flight of Fear was constructed during the peak of Paramount's ownership, Star Trek: Deep Space Nine was a Paramount Television show. I just thought it was interesting that whoever designed the Flight of Fear queue may have had access to Star Trek props - or maybe the spheres are just some kind of stock item that get used constantly. Anyway, yeah the nerdiest thing I've ever written, but here's your useless information for the day! Also, the altered photographs were taken by Don Flint of KIEXtreme.com, used with his permission, give his site a visit!

  11. Essentially, the land that Riverbend sits on used to belong to Coney (and Taft Broadcasting). The land was donated (Riverbend is actually owned by the Cincinnati Symphony Orchestra) to the symphony for the original Riverbend music center. Other than the RSVIP/accessible parking, there is no parking lot on Riverbend property. As such, it was only right that Coney, which had the parking infrastructure in place, handle the parking. Coney does get revenue from the parking for concerts (every concert at Riverbend has a "facility use" fee, part of which goes to pay for the parking. When you go to a concert at Riverbend, no parking money is collected when you park in the Coney lots for this reason. Additionally, all the concession stands at Riverbend are actually operated by Coney. And in turn Coney gets money from this. These arrangements were part of the deal for Coney donating the land to Riverbend. And when the smaller PNC Pavilion was built several years back, Coney donated some more land to Riverbend. The new racino indeed has impacted how Coney does business and its future plans. Which will only become more evident as the months go by. Being careful not to say too much.

  16. Hart may be in a black out period while he attempts to acquire the necessary financing. Meanwhile, the Governor is building expectations. Sure sounds like a negotiating tactic.

  17. There are other measures also employed. The trees are part of that. They were saplings when they were planted. International Street also used to have curbs. They were removed to reduce falls. The trees provide shade for sitting patrons, including those of the various food stands.

  21. - What parts make sense to you and why? + There's a difference between what might happen and what you want to happen. - A new B&M coaster by 2015 is an absurd stretch. + Again, that may be what Hart wants or says he's going to do, but is it realistic? First off: No. A coaster of that size and from that manufacturer would require planning years in advance. I highly doubt that Ed Hart would've flown B&M in and paid them a ton of money to start designing something or even have them consult and estimate a new attraction at a park that he doesn't even technically have the legal ability to operate amusement rides in, especially one where the future is questionable. Diamondback opened at Kings Island in 2009. Evidence of construction was first seen in 2008. You know for sure that planning for such a ride would've occurred well before 2008. So, seriously here, do you really think Ed Hart has paid B&M to design any kind of ride so far in advance (when he's not even guaranteed to be operating the park) that it could be constructed and operating by 2015? We'll be lucky if this park is even opening or still standing by 2015.

  25. Certainly not saved yet. Article said that they are close to reaching a lease. Still said that the group will have to secure financing. Let's not forget Bluegrass Boardwalk also had a lease at one point in time. Until opening day comes for this park, I'll remain pessimistic.

  27. Maybe they could build a coaster that would follow a giant Dolly Parton's body form. It would have a couple of really big hills, have a lot of shaking built into it, and it would only be open 9 to 5. Oh, also, it would have a short duration of a ride time.
