  1. Honestly, I think if you took a poll of the average KI visitor, they'd look at the words "giga" and "invert" and say, "What the heck does that mean?" I believe the average KI visitor just wants to ride a ride. Doesn't matter if it's an invert, giga, sit down, floorless, flying, 4D, ect. All this talk of what Kings Island "needs", I don't think the average visitor thinks about what the park "needs". If it's a new B&M coaster or Intamin, they will line up in droves to ride it because it's new.

  2. It has certainly been a interesting week here on KICentral. We are seeing a massive influx of new posters and traffic that is very exciting to us all. A few things that we must all certainly keep in mind as we are all in this journey together as to Whats in Store for "One Four." KICentral has been around for 10 years strong now and while we have had issues in the past, none of which have been as dumb as someone did this week. As we don't know if they were a member or not on this site, it still put a dark cloud over our close relationship with the park. A individual made an inappropriate post recommending to go to the park "ASAP" in which person did just that (after hours) was caught by K.I. Security and when questioned, referenced the post. We have assisted the park in their research in this matter by quarantining the thread in question. The park has completed their investigation and have dealt with the appropriate individuals. On to some good news. With KICentral getting larger and larger we have migrated to a new server that is cloud based. This means if one server gets too busy, we automatically load balance ourselves onto a new machine seamlessly. The DNS server changed this morning, while this change was instant for some users, others may have experienced delays. Any posts made by those users today will be stuck on the old server. I'm very sorry for the inconvenience as I have never seen a DNS server swap take this long before. In even better news, since the investigation is completed in the trespassing incident. I'd like to announce that we will be continuing on as planned celebrating our 10th birthday at the park on Sept. 8th. Lots of special activities planned for the day with more details to come. This event will be free with park admission.

  3. If there's enough interest we'll move forward with an outing on September 8 that will revolve around a series of fun activities. Also, more details to come as we get into the offseason, but keep the weekend before the Super Bowl open.

  4. Here is the thread, please maintain a good fellowship and keep on topic. Lets not let a incident like that happen again.

  6. We've mentioned numerous times of this site that lines don't dictate popularity. You are correct Tr0y that Arrow is out of business, but S&S Worldwide currently takes care of Arrow coasters so getting parts isn't as huge of an issue that many may think. As for general, for those who talk about the fact that the thought of the turn around from the brake-run and the transfer shed near the old entrance of Thunder Alley, did anyone think that that area may not be completely finished on footers yet? What I mean is that footers aren't always finished after the first ones have been poured. Think about the footers for Gatekeeper near the front entrance of the park...they weren't all poured as soon as construction started. Those generally were poured after the park closed for the season. So why couldn't project 2014's footers go out toward the midway past the current construction fence. Just some food for thought.

  7. Too many people on this board are biased in opinion when you talk about the age-old B&M vs Intamin debate. Intaminallday, judging by your username, I can tell you're thinking about what you want, not what the park needs. The park does need an invert, in my eyes at least. We need a good, solid inverting coaster with a great capacity, and an invert is one of the best ways to go. You talk about the designs being "outdated" and "gimmicky," but you fail to explain why every model continues to draw huge crowds. Why does Raptor have one of the longest lines throughout the day at Cedar Point? Why is Alpengeist so loved by Busch Gardens fans?

  10. Those days are over. Mr. Kinzel is retired. If those days ever existed. Business is business. Cedar Point is A park in the chain. It is not a sacred cow compared to which the other FUN parks must be humbled. Mr. Ouimet doesn't even live in the parking lot! Yes. Someone is.

  11. Thank you, Mr. Dane. I particularly appreciate the things you've done, both over the many years and in the background these past few, trying days to maintain this site, in ways very few will ever know, and that others will benefit from. You truly are a great guy, Mr. Dane. Again, for all you do, this thanks' for you!

  13. Probably out of sheer luck I managed to get not one but three visits to the Point in under a month. To some this is normal but the last visit I made was in 2009 so I was super exited. So This PTR will be like my last one with Part 1 being the trip and part 2 is ride reviews but I will only review the rides I did not go over in my last PTR and it will also have way more pictures. So for the first day it was me and my younger sister Maggy and we arrived around 4:00 as we drove down the "Million Dollar Mile". The weather was very nice and perfect for awesome coasters! So our first ride was Gatekeeper and only waited for 12 minutes before enjoying my second wing coaster on 8-right. The next ride was Mantis after 20 minutes of waiting. MF had an hour wait and my sister had never ridden Mantis before so I had to prepare for the worst and It wasn't as bad as some have made it to be. Emphasis on AS it really wasn't that great. so a walk down the Frontier trail on the way to Maverick ensued. We waited for 1 hour before we were halfway into the queue house and a ride-op E-stopped so another 45 minutes happened before be could get on but we walked on after the ride started up due to the amount of people who left the queue. Luckily we met some Marching band people so we were entertained for the most part. The ride was awesome but slightly not worth the wait. Millennium Force was next and we rode it with the new friends we met. We waited for 1:15 minutes but by the time we got on the ride it was dark and an awesome night ride ensued on my favorite coaster ever. Wicked Twister was awesome as usual and with a cold lakeside nighttime breeze every time we passed out of the station added to the thrill. Sadly we had to leave and a nice sibling outing ended in awesomeness. Day two was a solo visit and I went for MF first for platinum pass ERT. I got two rides in before I knew this would be a day spent more on the midway and beach than on rides. Lucky enough to get in line for TTD before GA was let in so I got on the ride at 10:05 after 15 minutes of standing. Then 3 rides on Magnum in a row with either walking on or not leaving my seat was next in row 6-2. That just goes to show how underrated and high capacity this airtime machine is. Then a lap on Gemini before I headed to to Mean Streak. I rode MS 3 times all in the front row and it was a very enjoyable ride compared to past rides. Cedar Creek mine ride was next after a walk on. Not as good as AE but the setting and theming was pretty good. Then a trip to the town hall and lunch at Pinks hot dogs before i headed to the beach as the lines got big. Lake Erie was warm and the beach was very clean and sand as opposed to many beaches in the region. I got another ride on Magnum after a 20 minute wait before I had to leave. All and all, a nice trip and got to ride GK. Part 2 will be ride reviews and a lot more pics so hopefully that will be up tomorrow.

  14. I wish to thank everyone at KIC for all their hard work. It has been a fun 10 years! Perhaps the execs at KIC will accept "donations" to help with the site? I'm sure there is an expense for running/ operating KIC and I (and I'm sure others) would like to help out. KIC has let me take a break from life a little bit each day over the past 10 years. It's only fair for me to show gratitude back!

  16. No, they don't. Every customer is now X-Works.

  17. X-Works refers to everyone, not just Cedar Fair...the labels used to say the park name but after enthusiasts kept spilling the beans, so B&M had to change the customer name so no one would find out.

  20. Whatever the new addition is, it needs to look really cool from the midway. Vortex is seriously the most photogenic coaster ever.

If it's a new B&M coaster or Intamin, they will line up in droves to ride it because it's new. Hmmm...well, I agree and disagree. You're right the average KI visitor probably wouldn't know the difference between an invert and giga. Thank you - I stand corrected on that point. But I think if you showed them pictures, or models, of each one and asked which they'd prefer to see at KI, they'd pick the invert because it looks more fun and different than anything else currently at the park. Anyway, I'm not sure if this has been discussed lately, but I saw something on another coaster website in reference to Kings Island dethroning a "mountain spirit" in 2014. Alpengeist literally means "Alps spirit", or more generally "mountain spirit", and Alpengeist currently reigns as the tallest invert. Could the hint mean Alpengeist will lose its title as tallest invert? I'm just going on this being a hint, and not something legitimate. I have no idea where the hint originated.

  22. Also, Intamin giga campers, keep in mind that Kings Island does not build what the enthusiasts like most. They will build what the general public will give the most ca$h for.

  23. YoungStud said:...All the intamins on the list don't have jack for theming, they rely on the ride itself. Well, since Dick Kinzel let Jack go, but Jack won the arbitration, perhaps things will be different...

  24. B&M builds whatever Kings Island wants. Just because they built a giga somewhere doesn't automatically mean that KI's will be a giga. And to your remarks on the last invert being built in '06, there have been a few built in the last few years, heck, OzIris was new this year. Also realize most US parks by 2006 already had a B&M or Vekoma inverted coaster. Kings Island does not. Also, a B&M inverted coaster rides very differently from Invertigo, Flight Deck and Firehawk, not to mention it'd be a nice line chewer, something Kings Island needs, particularly in Action Zone where most ride lines can get pretty long.

  25. Thanks Dane! Your hard work is appreciated in more ways than you can imagine. As I see responsible young individuals coming to this site and learning about the park they love, it reminds me this site is needed as an outlet for those individuals to learn about the park and industry they love. I think the mast majority of us try very hard to be welcoming and accepting to all, and we appreciate all the work you put in to keep the site up and going!

  26. And if that show is inappropriate for your children, then so is Kings Island. On any given day at the park, you will see and hear far more risqué things in the park--by, out of the mouths of and in the physical appearances of other guests. This is, by far, the best show Kings Island has had in many years. If it doesn't meet your standards for decency, I submit that says far more about you than the show. Some of us are weary of the continual barrage of musical revues and/or ice shows. If you don't like Ed, fine. Just don't go to the show. If you find yourself in it and don't like it, quietly leave. That's your right and your privilege. Those of us who adore the show need to do what you should do--drop by GR and tell them!

  30. What's the evidence against a B&M Giga? Based on the footers, it's already been 100% confirmed to be a B&M, Oumit said that there wouldn't be any new Wing Riders this year. So that leaves with only a few options of coaster types. And I see it MUCH more likely to be a Giga vs an Invert. He said there any new wing coasters for this year... but building one for next year would still fit that statement accurately... Very PR-like statement. Wing-coaster is SUPER possible in my opinion. It just makes sense for the Banshee to be a winged. Wrong that's not what he said at all. He said nothing about this year. I suggest you go back and watch the interview again.

I also think you're quite adamant on remaining ignorant of the vast majority of coasters outside the US. Save for the lone B&M Giga. In CANADA. Speaking of which, that Mitch Hawker poll from last year? The one someone touted as saying Intamin took most of the honors on the top 12 (and because no one apparently trusts the Golden Ticket Awards anymore)? The ones in bold are American coasters. And to add further insult to injury, Skyrush and Shambhala debuted last year alongside Leviathan. Skyrush is 200 feet tall and was ranked 7th, Shambhala is 250 and was ranked 6th and Leviathan is 300 and was ranked 18th. Aside from the fact that B&M's premier giga ranked second to last in the top 20, the only other giga in the top 5 (Millie was ranked 14th) was beat out by two hyper coasters, 1st Place being in Germany. Also, Nemesis has been around since 1994 and has been in the top-tier list since this poll's inception.

  36. Kudos to Silver2005 for helping to explain. I want to reiterate something that another member posted way back in the discussion (I'm sorry I can't remember the name of the member, but I give him the credit for saying it): Usually when a coaster train departs from the station, it does not pass through the transfer track or storage shed area on its way to the lifthill. If you consider the positioning of the footers, it's clear where the storage shed and transfer track will be. It's conceivably possible the station could lie on the other side of the storage shed, closer to the old SOB station, but that leaves you with an extremely sharp curve going into the final brake run after the parallel rectangular footers which have been built. That seems very unlikely. So the general consensus is that those parallel rectangular footers are at the base of the lift hill for an invert. So you're saying the only think B&M builds these days is a giga coaster? I'd be interesting in hearing B&M's reaction to your opinion. How do you explain the invert (OzIris) which was built the same year Leviathan was built? What about the 1 floorless coaster, and 3 wing coasters that have been built, or are in the process of being built, in the past year? A coaster manufacturer builds what the customer orders. It doesn't abandon all former coaster types because it has now started building a new type. Also, it has been said already by several other people....the predominant reason an invert hasn't been built in the U.S. in recent years is because pretty much all major parks already have one, and have had one for quite a while. Kings Island doesn't have a full-circuit invert, which is something it really needs more than a giga coaster right now.

  47. Flight deck is a great coaster. Thanks to its speed it is a much better ride then Iron Dragon. It does not need removed it needs revamped. It has the worse theming of any ride ever. Fighter jets are a plain flat grey, the only color anywhere on the ride is a red stripe on the bottom of the car. Also people I speak with often have no idea it is even back there. Once his new coaster is up and running thousands of people are going to walk to it, see it has a 2+ hour wait and then just keep right on walking to Flight Deck.
