  1. One idea of many, many ideas surely to come. Cutaway of my OLED concept. Something like this. ..."ish." I love that they chose the old mid-60's Baby-Blue Chevy for the concept! Original Shed image can be found here.

  5. Can I just say how cool but scary the animation at the beginning of the announcement video was? https://www.facebook.com/visitkingsisland/videos/10154981184613368/ Seeing Kings Island taken over by nature was simultaneously intriguing and horrifying. I've seen pictures of abandoned parks, and I never want that to happen to Kings Island.

  7. It looks like a fun coaster! 3300 feet and 3 trains? How is that going to work? Maybe "the shed" is an elaborate way to get it to run with 3 trains without people getting bored on the brake run?

  8. Mystic Timbers fills a perfect need for Kings Island. Family Woody built by GCI, who build awesome rides. I am glad this is not another gigantic steel multi looper. KI has enough of those, instead this will fill another hole in the lineup and will give my family one more coaster to ride. We love ThunderHead and honestly this coaster has more of a feel to something that DollyWood would get and not KI, so for that I am even more excited. Also how Great was it to see KIC's very own PKI Punk last night talking about Mystic Timbers? Now he will play a huge role in designing and building a coaster for his home park. That is just awesome! Some of you fanboys would be wise to cut back on the verbal diarrhea and listen to some of the wisdom that is on this site daily. You don't know, never knew, and very few care what you think because you never shut up. Once again the old moniker of those who know don't talk and those that don't won't shut up. Thank you for illustrating that point once again. Well done KI and GCI

  9. This seems unsatisfying to me. On more than one occasion, many of us tried to explain to the community here that, despite presenting himself as such, GavPenn was not an insider. (And GavPenn, you must admit – you did WAY more than just speculate and guess and have fun with us. You 100% purported yourself as an insider. "...I'll give you a hint..." "...that's all I'll say..." "You'll see..." "Just wait until the announcement..." etc. etc.) Every time you popped into this thread, it was as a know-it-all lording his inside information over us, "gifting" us with little hints and tips about what the answer was. We told you then that little coy "winks" presented as if you knew the answer were NOT cute, constructive, or fun, and warned your "followers" to be wary, and you literally just kept on going with 100% confidence that you knew and we didn't. Now, those who trusted you (because you purported to be "in the know" and to have some access the rest of us don't), your "followers," are not renewing passes. You convinced them to anticipate something that many of us knew was not coming and crafted yourself into an insider who they could trust (never mind that, if you actually HAD known the answer, you would've been ruining the anticipation and fun for many of us by strutting around dropping hints). But you were wrong! After all that, you weren't even the insider you thought you were. Sigh. I will "un-ignore" your posts now and let's carry on. I hope we ALL learn a lesson from this – the same one we've been repeating for ever: those who know don't say, and those who say don't know.

  12. Well 99% of us also said "well I could be wrong but I think it's this..." Vs. 'I know I'm right you will see how credible I am during the announcement'. Just making sure we all remember that. I am SOOO excited for this (and even I wanted a RMC). Great job KI PR!!

  15. Mystic Timbers is by-far the best addition that the park could've possibly made, and they know it. For many a year, even quite some time before many of you were around, I could be quoted in person or on this site as saying that Kings Island has always had one of the top wooden coaster lineups of any park, but they were still lacking. A prime example of a park with an excellent wooden roller coaster lineup, as I've frequently mentioned, is Six Flags Over Mid America. For a bit now, theirs was second to none. This GCI wooden coaster really fills one of the stray gaps in Kings Island's wooden roller coaster lineup and park lineup in general. A fast paced, modern woodie with twists and dips. All negativity from some so-called "fans" feeling entitled to some SOB type woodie aside, we really have a winner on our hands. Take notice to what this will do for the park, folks, because other parks sure will. Great Coasters International has proven time and time again that they are one of the top, if not the top manufacturer of wooden roller coasters. A combination of their tried and true elements along with Millennium Flyer trains have really hit home for many parks. ....And as a note to a select few of you..... Some of the absolute best roller coasters that I've ever ridden were low to the ground, fast, and heavily underestimated at the time of their announcement. Congratulations Kings Island, and thank you for such a very well needed addition to an already wonderful park.

  16. Don't judge a rollercoaster by an animation. Ride it first and then judge it. Just my input.

  17. I haven't posted in years but one thing I hear all the time is many of the rides at Kings Island have no theme. Well this goes to show the park is listening. This has a theme to it. I don't have a link to it right now but there is a video on the official Web page that shows the coaster trains, they will be themed to the truck Kings Island has been showing. This looks like a solid coaster that has been well planned out. I'm sure whatever is in the shed will enhance the ride.

  18. So the major bombshell tonight was that it was the FIRST of TWO major announcements this summer. A second announcement is coming in mid-August, and AFAIK, we have zero hints so far. That is, unless some of the tweets and other social media posts from the park that we couldn't figure out how they related to what we now know as Mystic Timbers instead have something to do with this second announcement. Anyway, just when you thought decoding was over for the year, it's BONUS ROUND TIME! To copy some of the guidelines over from this year's first decoding thread: Finally, please note this this thread is NOT a place to discuss Mystic Timbers construction. For that, please see the Mystic Timbers Construction Progress thread: http://www.KICentral.com/forums/index.php/topic/32259-mystic-timbers-constuction-progress/ Happy decoding (again)!

  19. My 2 cents on the announced coaster. I am glad to see them expanding without removing anything (for now). The fact that they have wooded land to use and are using it to me is a plus. That is one nice thing about The Beast that I like. That feeling of almost leaving the rest of the park behind in a mad rush through the woods. So, if they can pull this off, it will be a good thing (maybe the real Beastie?) The POV did seem a little underwhelming to me, but I will hold off judgement until I get a couple of rides in. Does it seem like they are keeping up with the nearby parks with this new one versus their new ones? At this time, it does not look like it. I have not ridden those new ones at the other nearby larger parks, but I am planning on doing this before the year ends. However, another way of looking at it, do they need to or are the other parks catching up? A different discussion for a different thread. Will I ride this newest one? At some point, yes. Will I wait 2 hours in line to do so? Probably not. Will this keep me from going to the park and enjoying the other rides? Not in the least. I know that the comparisons in the park are flying about. My first thought was, it looks like a Racer / Beast combo (Bacer / Reast?) If they can get the smoothness right, some good airtime hills, and decent restraint system, I can see it as a good addition. My one hope is that they limit the lighting as much as possible, so we can have another good "natural" dark ride at night. The name seems out of place at this point. I am hoping that the theming will go along with it and make sense. Some people will love it, some will not. Build it, lets ride it, and then judge. It does sound like everyone that attended had a good day, and that really all that matters.

  21. Exactly the sort of thing I've been waiting for from Kings Island. The thing that makes our park different from Cedar Point. You'd never see Cedar Point attempt this: A mid-sized thrilling coaster that's billed as an "adventure." It sounds as if we'll see a semblance of a storyline here, and it even seems like the park is committed to preserving as much of the forest as possible. I love the tease of the not-so-secret secret element, and sincerely have said elsewhere on this site that this "sort" of ride would be my absolute ideal for Kings Island. A perfect level of theming for a seasonal park, something different, and something worth seeing in person. Slaloming through the forest, ducking under tree branches, racing over the river, curving through the trees... And all with that "extra touch" of storyline, so perhaps we'll see vines overtaking the queue line, crawling along the coaster, and growing across the shed. Here's hoping that the park sticks with the motif they've established and hangs glowing, pulsing orbs of light in the trees out there, giving off a soft, otherworldly glow at night... indeed, this "dark enchanted forest is taking over" has been done before, and this COULD be the best of the batch, if they follow through with the theming. And I'm just thrilled. As I said in the decoding thread, this is the first time in a long time that Kings Island is debuting the kind of ride Busch Gardens would have – something that's quality over quantity. This ain't no in-your-face 200-foot inverted roller coaster. GOOD. Let the chorus of "I'm underwhelmed" commence. That's fine. I'll suffer through it for the next six months. Come spring, the naysayers will understand what a "little" GCI can do, and what a little story can do, and what a little mystery and intrigue can do. Here we go, folks.

  22. ^ Red text hurts my eyes. Nobody's opinion is invalid, though. You're happy this ride is what it is, others are not. Neither are wrong in wanting what they want.

  23. I'm guessing the Shed is going to have the mascot/villian(Medusa figure) of the ride in there, probably with some screens showing vines growing and covering the room before quickly escaping back into the station. And for the second announcement I'm guessing we're getting some kind of Dark Ride(Plants Vs. Zombies) or a Flat in The Crypt building. I think 2017 will be a very successful year for Kings Island. And to all the bummed out Giga Fanboys, this ride is probably here to tide you over until we get our Giga, and to bring in some extra money for it. A few years we will have our Giga. Slow down and enjoy the process.

  27. This will be a perfect transitioning coaster. I was 99% sure it was going to be an RMC but understand why they went with GCI. It wouldn't be right to throw another extreme coaster directly next to PS. I know that Diamondback is practically inside PS but another over the top coaster would seem a bit much. Maybe the name will grow on me(pun intended) but seems kind of "drawn out of a hat." You already know that I'll be a first rider. Looking forward to those other announcements! I also had the chance to meet a few of you, Zayzayd13 and BeautyandTheBeast to be specific. It was nice to experience tonight with fellow friends from kic.

  28. Some people were even disappointed with the addition of Banshee and Diamondback. You have to wait and see. Use your imagination. Actually surprised that I was somewhat close on my guess. Anyways the ride looks like what would happen if The Beast and The Racer had a baby. AKA it probably will be a very fun ride especially at night. Still confused like the rest of you on what Greg meant by there being two major announcements for 2017. Also, does this mean we have to start a decoding episode 2.5 topic for #WhatsInTheShed? lol The GCI guy said they used Racer and Beast as inspiration so... makes sense! --- Also.. No one is happy that we are getting trick-track at Kings Island again since King Cobra left? But this time with VERY comfortable seats!... unless alterations are made to the trains later on in typical KI fashion. I'm still very interested in how the train getting back from Soak City will work out and the paths for getting from the entrance plaza to the Station.

  31. MASON, Ohio – Construction is underway on a new wooden roller coaster adventure for visitors to Kings Island. Themed to an area surrounding a lumber company becoming overrun by a mysterious medusa-like overgrowth of vines as nature reclaims its land, Mystic Timbers will be 3,265 feet in length, reach 109 feet in height and weave along steep cliffs, down ravines, cross over water and go through an extreme S-turn, among a forest of trees, at speeds up to 53 mph. The ride will feature a total of 16 airtime hills, a mid-course tunnel and interact with parts of the Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad and White Water Canyon attractions. “Mystic Timbers is naturally exciting because of its setting in a densely wooded area,” Kings Island’s vice-president and general manager Greg Scheid said. “The natural rugged terrain and tunnel ensures a unique and memorable ride experience.” Mystic Timbers is custom designed and built for the topography of Kings Island by Great Coasters International, Inc. (GCI) of Sunbury, Pennsylvania. Three trains will accommodate 24 passengers each (four riders per car and six cars per train) with a capacity of 1,200 riders per hour. Guests must be at least 48 inches tall to ride. The ride experience will last more than two minutes. “Everyone who enjoys the fun and thrills of riding a roller coaster will want to experience this attraction,” Scheid said. Mystic Timbers will debut in the spring of 2017 and become Kings Island’s 16th roller coaster and its fourth wooden. With the addition of Mystic Timbers, Kings Island’s wooden roller coasters will combine to measure 18,804 feet of track, which will be the most at any amusement or theme park in the world. Those who cannot wait until spring may take a virtual ride on Mystic Timbers at mystictimbers.visitkingsisland.com. Visitors of the website may also access exclusive updates and features, including virtual ride renderings, ride statistics, construction photos and a live Web cam. Kings Island is owned and operated by Cedar Fair Entertainment Company, a publicly traded partnership that is listed for trading on The New York Stock Exchange under the symbol “FUN.”

  32. The contents of the shed will remain a secret until the opening of the coaster, however, Greg did say something about making every ride a little different. Also.... Come mid-August, there will be a finalization of additional capital improvements that will be announced later.... My guess... Something is going into the big box too!!! 35. Went to the park for the announcement yesterday and got to see the Christmas in July stuff on International Street. I know I drive this point into the ground nonstop but... the instrumental music on International Street. It may be Christmas music, but there are parts that don't sound Christmas-y at all and remind me of the old days. Just the music alone makes International Street feel so much more majestic. PLEASE KI, change it back to instrumental PERMANENTLY. We know that the ability to play different music in various areas of the park is there. Just use it already.

  36. *Off topicness* Im wondering, how much longer will The Bat last? I know maybe not next year, but when can we expect it to be removed? That space could be used for the Giga we all think were getting down the line. The Bat is a Great ride. Very underrated. Sure it's placement is bad. But it has a good service record. There is still plenty of room for a Giga in other areas of the park if they ever decided to get one. Keep in mine a Giga is not the end all be all. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk

  37. Also another tip, riding it right at the beginning of the season next year will give a different ride then later in the year, got to let it break in. I for one am extremely happy we are getting a new coaster, and a fun action packed GCI is a perfect fit for the park.

  38. I am so very excited for this ride... I think this is exactly what Kings Island needed... it needed a good mid-sized woodie that can stack up against The Beast and Racer. Also with what Greg said..... another announcement for another "attraction" in August?? That got me genuinely curious.... Cannot wait to continue to see how this ride will take shape! Unfortunately I did not get any pictures of the construction today, but other members on here probably did... feel free to post pictures!

  41. And as people have said time and time again: Stats mean NOTHING. Read my post again. I'm not saying stats define a ride. I'm not saying Mystic Timbers won't be a good ride. I'm not saying I won't enjoy the ride. All I'm saying is that this ride really does not fill any "gaps" for Kings Island. Well sure it does! You gotta look at the ride experience. Does KI currently have a fast paced, twisty, airtime filled ride that is designed with the 48" audience in mind? Now they will! Right now you have to go to Diamondback for the airtime and, well, maybe Flight of Fear for the fast pace. I'm quite excited for this ride and I think it will be unlike anything else the park has to offer in terms of the onride experience!

  45. I seriously doubt there's a drop track... That would involve engineering by the builder/manufacturer - the GCI Rep explicitly stated even he didn't know what would happen in the "shed." I expect what happens will fit the "mystic" theme... And the lumber mill theme on the outside of the structure. I think this is a perfect choice addition to the KI coaster collection. I love GCIs and am super excited they are going with the millennium flyer trains. For those naysayers - give it a chance. This thing will be an awesome night ride no doubt- and some of the best woodies are terrain hungers.

  46. Not every ride needs to be the tallest, fastest, most inversions, etc. I know KI and GCI will be putting together a great ride that many people can and will enjoy. I certainly won't write off a ride based on a POV, especially a virtual POV! Let me ride it before I judge. I personally like some variety in a park, and I think this only adds to an already great lineup at KI!
