  1. http://coaster-nation.com/cedar-point-to-potentially-eliminate-souvenir-drink-bottles/ We may see the elimination of All Season bottles. Likely it will be like Kentucky Kingdom in which the season pass barcode is scanned. Funny. I suggested this same program to certain people from Cedar Fair nearly a year ago and was essentially called an idiot. I guess it sounded different when Cedar Point suggested it. Oh well.

  2. Hey everyone, I just wanted to give a shout out. I haven't been on in a while due to working on my new media company my friend Kris and I have been working on. It's called Behind The Theme Park Scenes. We are a theme park news site that provides everyday theme park news, and behind the scenes views. We are not a fansite, but a real news organization that will bring industry news to the general public and enthusiasts. We will be providing in-depth stories, cool photography, and vlogs from parks around the United States. Our goal also is to have official gear available to buy, that will be designed by KWDesigns. If you have not seen his work, check him out on Facebook. We are currently working on getting our website up and running, and plan to go live 1/1/2017. So come check us out on the links below, and please like, follow, and share. **FYI Ryan did approve this post Thanks everyone Brian & Kris www.behindthethemeparkscenes.com Facebook Twitter Instagram

  4. Unlikely, cup manufacturers have always been worried about sanitation and very few are willing to use recycled material in a location where it could possibly come in contact with the drink. The other side of this issue is that the paper cups are actually plastic lined which is what makes them waterproof, and makes them almost impossible to recycle. But do not think it is always better to use a plastic cup, you can make 50 paper cups for just the energy used to make one reusable plastic cup. If this was really an environmental issue the park would sell high quality plastic cups and allow them to be used for multiple years. Just pay an activation fee each year.

  5. This has been something I've been trying to get them to do since Winter Chill out in February of this year. It makes me happy that they're exploring the opportunity.

  7. I went through my closet to fold and put away my coaster and theme park t-shirts, so I could hang up winter things instead. I have at least 32 t-shirts (I /think/ only two are already folded up and put away with my Halloween stuff), and three tank tops. Which may not sound like a lot unless you realize nearly all of them were acquired starting in 2014. They also were almost all bought off the $5 rack at Coney Confections, or I got them free. It made me feel good seeing them all and thinking about when I'll be wearing them again and buying more.

  8. On a related note... You know it's the Off-Season when* the front of your car starts to resemble the front of a boat on Congo Falls due to the snow accumulation *Only valid this year and all non-Winterfest years Also, when you make plans about what to ride Opening Day and are even thinking about what slide you want to ride first once Soak City opens!

  10. My issue with the bottle has been that I always bring the bottle, and therefore can never get on Banshee without using a locker (something I have no desire to do, which then prevents me from riding Banshee). A card-based system definitely has advantage in this situation. And to having both bottles and plans, I'd imagine one possible solution is to make the bottles valid refillables, but remove the barcode so you still need a plan to get the drink. It's not a perfect system, but it's functional.

  11. They could make the option with the cups available as well as the all-season drink pass and give people who already purchased the option of redeeming for one or the other. I would say that perhaps they could do both, give you a cup but also allow you to swipe your pass, but I think that would open the door to fraud wherein someone could buy it and then give their cup to someone else, effectively resulting in them having TWO drink plans. You could also just make it where per day, you can use one or the other but not both. That would effectively be no different than what they have now, as I have definitely loaned out my all-season souvenir cup to friends and family who I knew were visiting the park.

  12. I've had conversations like this at work before: Me: "We should do it X way, it will work better" Boss: "No, that's not how our customers will want that to work. We should do it Y way." Me: "Alright, since that's how you want it, I'll do it like Y" (weeks pass) Boss: "We're getting complaints about the way this module works. Why didn't we do it like X?" Me (smiling on the outside, raging on the inside): "I'm not sure. I'll fix it to work like that." It happens to the best of us...

  13. Personally, I have never had to ride Vortex in any special kind of way. I have been riding it since it opened. Sure, the transitions could be better, but the technology is way better now and I can't ride Vortex expecting Banshee-like transitions. Not once have I ever received what I would consider a bad ride. Vortex always delivers and I ride it every trip 2-3 times. Plus, I have had back surgery that comes with problems. Is it rough compared to what we have today? Yes. At the same time, this newer technology has spoiled the general public into believing that older rides built 35 years ago should deliver the same kind of experience. I guess that they just don't have that knowledge.

  15. I like the throw away cup idea but the amount of extra trash this is going to make. Hopefully the park can handle it well.

  16. I could see Cedar Fair going to a smaller paper cup dedicated to drink plan holders.

  17. You can keep a park clean with drink cups. See Holiday World. Free drinks with 12 oz cups and if you see a drink cup thrown down it does not stay there long. I hope they do make the change to an optional paper cup or souvenir cup. I know I would add add it to my pass if it was the paper cup. Right now when at the park I don't have a non rider to hold the souvenir cup to justify buying one. I will just get water out of the fountains at the rest rooms. I refuse to carry anything around the park. I have a phone, car key, and wallet in the park.

  18. Last summer I took a trip up to Cedar Point and purchased and all you can drink plan that did not require a souvenir cup, it used wrist bands and I thought it was a fantastic idea. I hate the idea of buying your refillable cup and then some rides but force you to put them in a locker or leave them with a non rider. Seems like such a scam. We have been allowed to leave cups, bags etc in the ride station for forever but in the last couple of years it is suddenly a problem.... I do really like the idea of still getting a cup with your season drink purchase also.

  19. I got the survey and I really hope the chain makes this change. It would frankly fix almost all of my complaints about the drink program. My only remaining complaint would be about just how frequently the freestyle machines are out of a beverage, and it typically seemed to always be what I want, the diet lemonade. I get the feeling that the parks are planning on having more rides with a no loose articles policy similar to Banshee. For Kings Island it has been rumored the bins in the Diamondback station will be gone for 2017. Plus I suspect that Mystic Timbers will also have a similar policy.

  20. In the free comments of the survey I recommended that they merge the two ideas into one. Give everyone a souvenir cup, but don't make it mandatory to have the cup on your person in order to use the season-long-drink pass. Let folks choose what works best for them.
    2 points
  21. I agree with all of the above. It is like they have listened to us, as the comments I made early on in the survey were the same direction I wanted it to go. I have already signed up for the cup, so I am I hoping that if they go this route, I can change it over. I posed this as my question at Other Questions section

  22. Supporting the change... I just want to say, I've heard many stories about the all-season bottles being stolen from ride-stations, and the only solution was to simply get a locker, which costed a bit more money. It felt as if parks were sucking money out of your pockets, but they were trying to offer solutions to problems that were occurring. Beyond the controversial topic in the industry of the lockers. (Trust me, you guy's make it sound really controversial.) This could be a very important change. Now obviously when you go to an amusement park, you want to get a souvenir for your visit, and getting a bottle for drinks can usually be a good idea, take a piece of the park with you for around $30. So I think it would be nice that we would get a mixture of both, have a souvenir bottle to take home with you,. But for seasoned guests, you get the all year. As I think about the idea, yes this does sound like what it should be doing. But please do this change Cedar Fair. As a guest, it's a good day to go from the Best Day Ever, to a bad day at an amusement park because someone stole the cup that they spent money on. Having the disposable cups would mean that guests have more mobility. (Plus we can FINALLY take a drink in a 30 minute to an hour long line for Banshee or Firehawk, or other rides that may not have loose articles in the line.)

  24. Just got off the phone with my step mom and looks like she is getting the boys a COSI family pass for 2017. I told everyone to focus on experiential items this year becuase there really are few physical things they want or need right now and boys Genrally don't like getting clothes as presents. My mom is going to get them SF passes, now if I can just find someone to flip for the CF passes. I don't think I am going to have much luck with that. By the way if I have 3 Groupon passes to COSI that expire on the 15th if someone wants them and is willing to meet me somewhere around Polaris or Worthington. No Charge. Final exams are this week so we are not going to be able to use them.

  26. Ugh... Now that my Platinum Pass is confirmed I'm super excited for opening day for KI and CP. Mystic Timbers is looking absolutely incredible... Also super excited because my family will be going to Toronto over the summer and a certain park owned by CF resides there with a giga.

  27. If you've never been, the burger, nor any of their food is terribly overpriced. The pricing at RHOFG is fairly comparable to what you would expect to pay at most casual sit down joints anywhere in the country. Considering the pricing of most of the other food in the park, its a pretty good value relatively speaking. I've never had much trouble getting a seat, but the service at times can be very slow.

  28. That image is right in the area where it flies over WWC. The trough is filled in currently for construction access. The portion of the ride structure on the right is by the train tracks. You can barely make out the train tracks beyond the structure. The train would be approaching the photographer of the picture and moving out of frame to the right.

  29. I just wanted to say that I finished level 2 earlier today. It was definitely worth doing, although I am not a huge fan of the puzzles in one area, I just felt like there was not enough instruction. Having said that, if you have never been to Adventure before I cannot recommend enough to go and experience the first level if nothing else. It only takes an hour or two and is extremely well done. If you want to experience everything and complete the harder set of puzzles expect to spend two or three days. Take a pencil, flashlight, camera, and a notebook. Be willing to ask for assistance if you are stuck because some of the puzzles are difficult. This is a very unique experience which will soon disappear for good and this is your last chance. If anyone wants some assistance on level 2 just ask. I will try to help without giving too much away.

  32. I have about 20 or 30 in my junk drawer. They're in good condition too. I also have at least 20 of 2011 Haunt maps, 2012 Haunt maps, 2012 regular season maps, 2012 CP maps, and 2013 CP maps I'll take a 2011,and a 2011 haunt map. The only way I'd be willing to give someone a map would be at a meetup, so if you happen be at the KIC Closing Day meetup, I would be glad too. I wouldn't want to give my address via return address if I were to send it to you.

  37. At this point, Fast Lane is on all rides except Planet Snoopy, White Water Canyon, and Congo Falls. The program is in it's second year at the park, and so far, no "confusions" have been made. I was talking about the difference between FL and FL plus.
    1 point
  38. I think this is stupid what they're doing. FL already costs a lot as it is and I bet they're going to get a lot of grief from the GP about confusion of which Fast Lane pass can get you on what ride.

  42. Whatever. Say what you want but in my book The Beast will always have FOUR tunnels. I always kind of thought of it a tunnel on top of a tunnel, so that's why to me it's two tunnels. Yeah I know, I just thought that the video would make my post more interesting.
    1 point
  43. Well, no not really. The train passes under the over lapping helix track into the tunnel FIRST. Then the second passing through the tunnel passes over the prior track. This is what it looks like...
    1 point
  44. You pass through the helix tunnel twice though, wouldn't that be classified as FOUR tunnels? I'd think so but then again I may be wrong.
    1 point
  45. The Beast has FOUR tunnels, not three; and was built by KECO, not PTC. BLSC is a double-launched coaster, not a triple-launched coaster. Diamondback is 230' tall, its drop is 215'. It is also just plain silly to call DB a 'hyper viper'. Firehawk goes 51 mph, not 50 mph. I think that's all of them, I just love to knitpick and point out these such vacuous and careless mistakes!
