  1. Good shot of construction happening around the turn area.

  2. I can smell the airtime now. That hill looks like more of a speedbump, but just imagine the forces we're gonna get flying over that thing...

  4. I work in graphic design creating advertisements and e-mail campaigns for a local business. I know a lot of the trouble I run into is the complete lack of comprehension of what good design is or what it looks like. I can create 20 different graphics where I've wracked my brain and tried to push the design creatively, only to get feedback from my boss saying, "I don't like any of these." Usually what they end up picking is something simple and generic and it makes me question why I spend so much time trying to be creative. In instances like this, it's possible that the "higher ups" just have no vision for good design or creativity, and that leaves their trained graphic artists to produce generic looking stuff like this. I can tell you from experience, this is one of the most frustrating things that can happen on the job and it makes you want to bash your head into your desk, get up, and walk out of that office forever. For the graphic designers in those scenarios, I truly sympathize.

  7. That tunnel looks really cool, even though they haven't really finished it.

  8. Its not just Cedar Fair. Several restaurant chains have also reimagined their logos recently. O`Charleys, Olive Garden, Wendy`s all have opted for more simplified versions of their logos. In almost all instances, I preferred the original logo to the new ones. They just seem so plain and boring.

  9. What I if interesting is the Soak City burger/chicken stand ran incredibly well the half dozen or so times I used it. @sloan your experience obviously differes but I do find the *one* of the problems frequently is cooking of the food and I get it to a degree because breaded chicken does not last long under a warmer. They also don't have enough dedicated drink stands.

  10. Hopefully you get the job stashua123. Also, i didn't think this forum will get so big and help so many people. Likely I will need to come back to this forum in 3 years Because that's when I plan to apply to work at KI.

  11. Finally just renewed my pass for the season. Happy days are here again. Now to bad I already have a trip planned for April 14 weekend.....

  13. The best thing about this ride is it doesn't seem like tons of trees were cleared in order to erect the thing. Diamondback goes back into the woods, but the clearing is so much that it feels like an slightly open field And Banshee during opening year too. Though, the Banshee area didn't have tons of trees since SOB so.. couldn't have done much there

  14. On a screen, crisp and clean looks great. However, white looks generic. I've noticed that Kroger has gone "retro" on its' remodeling of stores. It's gotten so bad that stores that were converted to MarketPlace stores last summer are being reconverted--from furniture and jewelry to clothing, with 70's design principles. However, I'd LOVE for KI to go retro with its' logo similiar to what KD has done.

  15. I guess to me it doesn't matter what the logo looks like. I'm not looking to find Cedar Point by it's logo. If I buy anything at the park it generally doesn't have the logo on it...and if it does, it's a retro logo.

  16. The new logo's "eh", but I like the classic logo better. And O'Charley's new logo is too modern; I liked the old one better! -MDMC, not a huge fan of change

  17. An alternative to TBs could be worse, gotta have that trademark flag. On a serious note, i feel like each park should embrace a unique logo for each park with another way of connecting the designs together

  18. I thought the Peanuts movie was generally well received. I know I watched it and thoroughly enjoyed it. And Peanuts still get play on network television every year. Are they as relevant as some of the new cartoons? No. But they are still in the public eye. Back in the day, there were no license tie ins for amusement parks and kiddy areas. Coney had the Land of Oz as the theme for its kiddy area.

  19. i wonder if the park will add in more retro elements this year, for the 45th anniversary? Last year I saw some retro logos (on the clock and somewhere else, I can't remember.) I'd like to see the chain diversify and let the parks develop some identities of their own while taking advantage of synergies of scale. But this is coming from someone who has only been to KI, Cwinds, KD and CP--and CP felt the least corporate to me! As for retro things I'd LOVE to see make a return: make International Street more international again with music, paint and food. Bring back hints of themed areas (music in Rivertown and Coney Mall.) Use more of the 1973 logo in the park. Paint claws/fists etc in the pavement to direct people to major attractions. More complex things: Make Octoberfest again. Bring back Les Taxis, retheme the train and redesign the entry plaza to reflect the original layout. Not wanting much, am I?

  21. The main food stand in Soak City is well run because it's well planned - a queue area, half a dozen or so ordering windows and a dedicated order pickup area so guests don't hold up the line while they're waiting for their food

  22. I also agree that they need to have more dedicated drink stands. They also need to try to keep the one by the train open all the time. That area of the park is always busy and it will surely be busier this year with Mystic Timbers.

  23. GCI does what I call "floater pops". Hills that offer nothing more than strong floater, but you ride over them so quickly that it could give the illusion that it's ejector air when it's really not. Just REALLY fast paced floater hills.
    1 point
  24. I've never been on a GCI, so are they known for floater or ejector airtime? This looks like an awesome mix of both, but I'm really hoping for more ejector as KI doesn't seem to have a crazy ejector airtime focused ride. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  25. That turn with the half-completed tunnel reminds me of Adventure Express's downward turn that goes through the arches. Looking good thus far; only 71 more days!

  28. That essentially means as of right now they don't have a position for you. However, your application is on file and still active, so if a position becomes available they'll contact you for an interview. It doesn't necessarily mean it's a bad thing, I could mean that they hired enough associates for whatever department you've applied for before they fully reviewed your application or it could mean there are no available openings for you.

  29. It also serves some better to go on non peak meal times (12-1pm, 5-6 pm). As always, bring your concerns to the park's knowledge at Guest Services. Things won't necessarily improve if they don't hear the problems you are having.

  31. In my limited experience with park food, KI is the worst of all. I had no issues at CP, KD, Cwinds, SFOG, DW or SFOG. I had a slight issue at KK in that the place I wanted to try near Storm Chaser was only open once, and when it was open, it was "drinks only" so I had to waste 10 minutes. In my experience, KI's food service is severely lacking, be it early season, mid season of Haunt season. At the Blue Ice cream stand, on a dead August weekday, you shouldn't have to wait 30 minutes for a cone, to find there is one register open with the cashier handling money and food without proper hand hygiene. And the supervisor was indignant about me wanting a clean ice cream cone. Oh and the lack of trays at Skyline....lol However, I did see glances that may point to better times. At Skyline on IS, the drink person actually helped the chili maker a few times which sped up the line greatly.

  32. The biggest issue with slow food is just how inefficient they are at moving the food from point A to point B. 4 registers that take orders, then turn around and walk off to get the food and drinks is MUCH slower than doing 2 registers and 2 runners for food and drinks. The food is premade so that isn't the slow down in most cases, it is almost always the 5 feet between the window and the customer. Watching a busy Chick-Fil-A is even worse, they have no pick up window and have to try to yell out a name into a lively, active line of people at an amusement park. It is nearly impossible to hear your name, there is nowhere to stand for pickup, it is a horrible setup. If there are more than 4 people per line there I won't wait it is a mess. BUT they are one of the few places with packaged hot sauce.

  36. I can understand updating to give every park a similar theme, but this is pathetic. A 2 year old can make a better logo than that. Zero imagination or creativity. Apparently, they can't afford a graphic artist.

  37. A few days ago I had a dream that Mystic Timbers went upside down in a really weird way, and was basically a completely different ride. It looked a little something like this. Sent from my VS987 using Tapatalk

  38. Yah, there is no excuse for that nonsense. If you don't have the staff to feed your guests call in the food trucks, they will be happy to have the business. They caught a lot grief for it from what I hear. Hopefully things improve this year. I think the Meal plans are a great deal, but I don't do long waits for food. I didn't have any problems last year but I only went on weekdays early in the season. I would rather leave the park for fast food or eat out of a cooler and usually have a decent amount in of food in a cooler just in case.

  39. Previously, season pass holders just had to show their pass to ride operators at each ride to gain entry to the rides. (There is no gate on the ride side, so anyone that has paid to park is free to roam the grounds on the rides side. The pool area is gated). Starting last season, pass holders were not able to flash their pass to gain entry to a ride. They had to flash their pass at a ticket booth and receive a rides wristband for the day. Ride operators were only allowed to let guests on the ride that had a wristband. This results in being able to determine exactly how many pass holders were riding the rides on a given day. Coney does not take capacity like Kings Island does. We do not track how many cycles/riders ride any particular ride on a given day.

  40. I wonder if this means that licensing costs will go up, "Spongebobbing" the character set from the streets of KI... What's next? Mike Judge enterprises? Hank Hill's Propane Parade anyone? Beavis & Butthead Do Action Zone? Bill Lumbergh walking around, greeting guests and reminding them about park policies?

  41. I honestly don't see either of them being interested. Disney has a plethora of characters to use from their film library, old and new. And Comcast/Universal now owns Illumination and Dreamworks which gives them plenty of characters to use as well. Neither of them need Peanuts, and I doubt they view Peanuts as competition to their own characters.

  42. It could be interesting to see if this has any impact to KI particularly if a Disney or Comcast buys the brand.

  44. I believe Fiesta Texas is the only one left. It's my understanding that Scooby is branded through Sally, the company who built the Scooby rides, not through the parks themselves.

  45. I wonder if CF would be interested in buying? I am not sure how that would affect their current status or their long range plans?

  46. That is somewhat surprising. I didn`t know that MetLife had dropped their licensing of the Peanuts. That brand is pretty tied to Peanuts, IMO. Also, the article mentions Iconix bought the Peanuts licensing from the E.W. Scripps company. It was part of the Scripps owned United Feature Syndicate. It should also be noted that Iconix is selling its 80% stake in Peanuts Worldwide, LLC. The other 20% is owned by Charles M. Schulz Creative Accosiates, which is controlled by the Shulz family. I wonder what impact, if any, this will eventually have on the licensing deal that Cedar Fair has for the Peanuts gang.

  47. Yes you can. Just can't physically operate the ride. It depends on the ride. In GENERAL there is a level for someone who just checks restraints. Then the next level up is the individual who presses the dispatch button from the floor. Every coaster I've worked at KI has these buttons, not sure about Firehawk or the B&Ms. The next level beyond that is driving the ride. Above that is the person who performs the block tests in the morning. There are exceptions to this, such as FoF which has a separate position for the unload operator.
