  1. Probably around 1989, I was with my cousin playing around in the arcade over by the Zephyr. We walked over to that bowling ball game, and there was this dad playing next to his son. The dad tried it about 3 times and lost. He was really upset because he wanted to win something for his son. The son, who was probably around 7 years old, said "Daddy, let me try." The dad tried to explain how hard it was, and how heavy the ball was, etc. Eventually the dad caved and let the kid have a shot. First try: BOOOM! Nailed it. A perfect try. Great technique. Like a pro. But that wasn't the crazy thing. The dad let him try again. This time the kid closed his eyes when he pushed the ball. BOOOM! Again! Twice in a row. The dad was hollering and the worker kid was hollering. I was hollering. It was amazing. Of course, the kid had to try a third time, to get the biggest prize. By now, a crowd had gathered. Probably 25-30 people. The "guess your weight" barker was even into it. The kid grabs the ball, turns his head around to look at his dad (who was behind him) and said "got it" as he pushed the ball. BOOOOOOOM!!! Crowd went crazy. High fives. Strangers hugging. The dad picked up the kid in his arms. I may have cried. The kid picked the big prize (a bear or something) and they walked off. Incredible. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  2. The link provided below is an updated video content supported by WLWT News 5 and the Kings Island media crew, there many photogenic scenes inclusive such as; the ride entrance, shed, station and train crossing areas to acknowledge a few. I recommend that you all take a peek at this article for Kings Island's newest attraction, Mystic Timbers. You know all of this suspense raises the question of the Kings Island Funpix option, what could they look like? Perhaps riders will be seated in a Chevy C-10 Model truck becoming consumed in medusa-like vines and correlation to the story of #what'sintheshed. What do you all think the funpix photo options will be.....? http://www.wlwt.com/article/sneak-peek-a-look-at-kings-island-s-newest-roller-coaster/9216500

  3. Today's KI Story. Woodstock Express, the beloved John Allen designed roller coaster is to closed at the end of 2017 season , and rebuilt with RMC track. Don was quoted to say that "it is a great coaster that needed more thrilling inversions , because little kids love inversions ! " Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. When it's 55 and breezy, I start to consider shorts as an option. Jeans always feel so restrictive to me. I like wearing them from the fall on, but once it starts getting warm again, SHORTS!

  6. You know the off season is almost over when you spend five hours down at Coney on a Saturday when the rides are still not put back together and doing more than 20 interviews for ride operators.

  9. So, I wasn't at the park, but I was looking at the Diamondback web cam to see how long lines were since I was considering going later that day (this happened around noon). And off to the side, two people sprinted across the path to the left of the Diamondback, ran through the grass next to Backlot Stunt Coaster, and then jumped the railing to get in line. I just sat there for a while kind of shocked.

  10. Dude, it's hot outside. I am not wearing "going out" clothes to KI. I'm in a tee and shorts. I enjoy KI for rollercoasters and rides, not as a potential dating service. Plus, I absolutely hate the idea of jeans in the summer. I am not sure why anybody does that...

  11. Conversely, some GP would be surprised how rough a wooden coaster can be and still be popular now that SOB had its accident and now is gone. KIs woodies arent nearly as rough as they used to be thankfully. Sent from my SM-G930P using Tapatalk

  12. I think The Racer will get some major trackwork done soon. I think a lot of the GP will be surprised how smooth wooden coasters can be after they ride MT.

  13. I've seen a plethora of animals in the park as well. Gophers are pretty common, but I've also seen owls and red tailed hawks on the train bridge as viewed from the WWC queue. Also have seen deer while riding the train.

  14. I am so excited for the Iron Horse remake! Mean Streak was definitely one of the weakest coasters at CP, so now it's being changed to potentially one of the strongest.

  15. That's a better idea then mine!! A Eurofighter would definitely fit over there, but I think they would have to replace Congo Falls if that happened because I think they are saving the SOB station/area as room for our inevitable giga. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  16. I know that's right. Hard to b believe that Vortex is 30 this year. I rode it the year it opened as a 7 year old. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk

  17. If it were to be removed, I believe there would be enough room for a Gerstlauer Eurofighter. I think it would be a great addition to the park, and would provide enough room for additional decoration, plants, and trees in the areas it doesn't touch on that plot of land.

  18. Regarding Racer getting RMCed: I've come to the decision that I'd love to see RMC tackle The Racer, but ONLY if the layout is not changed. Shut it down after this season, rip out all of the wooden track and replace it all with the steel Iron Horse track, deconstruct and rebuild supports as needed, give the whole thing a fresh coat of paint, and reopen it in spring of 2019. But leave the layout and the racing aspect alone.

  20. I really want my first ride on MT to be in the back row but i really want a front seat ride at night. I'm not if we would have enough time to do both on Friday though. This time in two weeks I'll be at the park!!!

  21. Long time lurker here...but I finally joined up. Had a handle a bit last year but lost my login and couldn't retrieve it. I'm no enthusiast, but love KI and can say this is the kind of ride they need...not record breaking but it just looks like so much fun. Hills, theme, the shed gimmick...pure fun and I can't wait to check it out! Thanks for the great site!

  22. I'd rather be stuck on The Great Pumpkin coaster for a thousand years than KI getting a 4D "Free Fly" Coaster like the Six Parks have been getting.

  23. Just ride thunder run at the kingdom. It's fairly similar mirrored and it has had some lovin in recent years, so it rides well.. let alone having a new train this year for it Btw- i thought we'd've gotten at least one stoke construction update video from the park for MT but unfortunately not

  24. I would think that a day at a park other than KI would be taking some of the market. I am a big fan of KK, but I spend more days at KI. For me, it is nice to have an option to drive slightly more than an hour and ride some coasters that drive three hours for a long day at KI. But KK can't fill the KI void. That's why it's nice to have options.

  27. I think Adventure Express would beg to differ But I see what you mean, an RMC hybrid! I don't think I'd want Racer touched, other than maybe regular maintenance of replacing wood and maybe a repaint of its current colors. Also, speaking of RMC, did you hear about their new project coming to Kiddytown in 2018? Check it out on Coaster101!

  28. I'd prefer RMC Topper track for Racer because it would keep it in the "wooden" coaster category. Iron Horse or "IBox" track would classify it as a hybrid.

  30. @PKIVortex, you literally took the words right out of my mouth. I've been watching numerous Vortex videos, including my own, over the course of these past few days (especially after the day I heard it running on KI's Snapchat story!) and chances are that will continue up until Preview Night. I am still in a bit of disbelief that it's only 13 days until Preview Night!!

  32. I'd love to see the return of an enterprise style ride along with a spinning tea cup ride. In terms of modern flat rides, I think Canada's Wonderland has some of the best flat rides in the chain: Shockwave, Skyhawk, Sledge Hammer, and Soaring Timbers to name a few.

  33. I drove past the park last night and can confirm I witnessed the ride cycling at around 8:00pm EST. It looks amazing & the back row looks to be an incredible experience on the first drop. SO excited for April 14th!

  34. Oh I forgot about this crazy thing! This happened when I went to Kings Island in 2015. So I was in the Festhaus restrooms and not even kidding, there were 2 girls in there with hair straighteners, brushes, all this make up on the counter. The one girl said 'Does this crop top look ok?' And I'm just thinking " For gosh sakes your here to ride roller coasters, not get a bunch of people looking at you. And your hair will be all tangled up just after one ride' lol it was so ridiculous. I never will understand why some people dress or look the way they do for an amusement park.

  38. My design is a combination of a mine cart ride and a dark ride, essentially Adventure Express meets The Phantom Theater. It would start off slow as you navigate through a haunted house or opera and then speed up with twists and turns and ups and down as you "evade" ghouls. Sort of like a chase through a Phantom Theater-like setting.

  39. Thanks to everybody who provided the reports. It is nice to hear that Mr. Hart has a good and realistic view of the park's challenges.

  40. I didn't ride it in its last year of operation (2015), but I did ride it in 2014. I was also at Carowinds last week, and I rode their Hurler. KD's was objectively worse. There were trims on the straightaway between the first drop and the following turn. Each turn jackhammered like crazy. There was next to no airtime on any of the hills. It really was not enjoyable at all, and this is coming from someone who doesn't mind rough coasters as much if they still offer a fun ride. Carowinds has done a great job of taking care of their Hurler, and it's a very fun ride. The only thing I dislike is the station--it has to have one of the most unattractive buildings in a park right now.

  41. I'm saying he said there wasn't a $25-$30M coaster. That's the point.

  42. This is what irks me about enthusiasts... something MR Hart said was taken completely out of context, posted here and now people are passing it as truth. Mr Hart NEVER said a $25-$30M coaster was coming to KK. He said he'd like to install one, but until he has proof that it would significantly boost attendance, it's too much of a gamble. I have no doubt something big will come to KK... eventually... but I'm not holding my breath. He's got bigger fish to fry...

  43. In Coastermatt's video, I was impressed that Ed Hart recognized Logan from Koaster Kids by name and acknowledged his scream rating. It did seem genuine, as did he when I spoke with him last year. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk

  45. Mr Heart seemed specifically interested in people's opinions of Kings Island. Incorrect. Mr Hart responded to a hypothetical question posed to him. The question asked if we was "granted a wish for anything at KK, what would it be?" His response was that he wish he could know if adding a $20-$30M coaster would increase attendance significantly. He said that otherwise, it would be too big of a gamble since the market had drastically changed from 20 years ago when a large attraction install meant large attendance results. He then cited HW as an example saying they installed a B&M and their attendance went down. He also cited the previous times of large coaster installs at KK came at a time when "Kings Island wasn't installing big coasters." I attended the event. It was a very nice of the park to hold the tour, provide a free lunch and for Mr Hart to share his time with those that attended. I had a good time, and have nothing but good things to say about the generosity they showed. I will point out, that the most noteworthy thing of the day (for me) was when Mr Hart used the term "urban park." Mr Hart recognizes the biggest challenges he faces at KK - and it has nothing to do with rides. That was refreshing to hear.

  46. I think it was down (not keeping time, no hands) a good deal of the 2015 season, so I was pleasantly surprised with its new cement face that includes planters in the shape of letters forming "Kings Island" They definitely seem to have stepped back up their landscaping game this last season and it makes me very happy. At one point they had food-bearing plants back by the restrooms near WindSeeker (tomatoes, peppers, pumpkins). It delighted me because it was unexpected. I hope somebody had a couple dinners off the fruits before they changed it out again.

  47. I'm actually pretty happy to hear it's a 4. This sounds like a great coaster that families could ride together in case they have one chicken in the family like mine did (it was me).

  48. No sense in coming off argumentative matt112986. Everyone has their opinion no mater what another posters opinion is on a coaster or park. That is why we have a forum, to discuss different perspectives and opinions. Differences are a good thing, not bad. Back on topic, it seems from the poll results Vortex is much more liked than I originally thought. That is some cool data to see.

  49. Because the train can get pretty crowded transporting people back and forth from Soak City, I would love to see the return of a Sky Ride to take some of that load. The station (other than the Soak City station) could be either in Rivertown or Planet Snoopy tho.
