It appears that the train soundtrack has changed this year. I heard the following songs today: "Ghost Riders In The Sky" by The Outlaws "Theme From The Magnificent Seven" by the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra "Rocky Top" by The Osborne Brothers "Surfin Safari" by The Beach Boys Another couple songs that I was unable to identify In addition, the end of the ride is now tied in to Mystic Timbers (I won't spoil it beyond that for those who haven't experienced it yet).3 points

Just got a last ride of the night on Mystic Timbers in the back row! Also this was the first day of using FunPix (Really like it)! Rode it six times.3 points

So a ride element on the new coaser gets conplaints of being over-hyped, but now we want to hype up a dirt pile? Sometimes you guys confuse me.3 points
-
Except that area is historically the area where the park dumps dirt that is removed from elsewhere in the park when they have excess dirt that needs to be dumped somewhere. It is simply the dirt dumping grounds. That way, they do not have to pay to haul the dirt away off site.3 points

Sorry for starting this weird discussion, but as you can probably tell from my avatar and my profile, I really like the Goodyear Blimp. Has it ever flown over KI or do you have any pictures of it? I was at Cedar Point one day when it flew over and that was quite a sight to see! How did I not implode? LOL. And if you see someone at Coasterstock this weekend with a Goodyear Blimp t-shirt, it's me!2 points

Can we chill on this for a bit....until there is further evidence that show's there is actual work being done to this area for an attraction, it's unnecessary. It's a bit early in the season to bring a fine tooth comb over every little thing we may or may not see, especially since we've got a brand new coaster.2 points

Look at the hour to hour, not just the general statement of "chance of thunderstorms." The risk for storms/rain is fairly low....and partially when we won't even be in the park. Have faith....even if we do get some rain and storms, crowds will be lower due to that.2 points

Its Lunken airport, just for your information. Here is some information on the Goodyear blimps (or semi-rigid dirigible): http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2017/03/15/goodyear-deflates-blimp-but-keeps-familiar-form-in-flight.html2 points

There usually is a DirectTV Blimp Flying over KI...last year at Coasterstock for sure.2 points
-
I saw a different blimp last year over KI. I don't remember what was printed on it but I'll see if I can find any pics I took.2 points
-
The blimp is often over KI during the tennis tournament (for those that don't follow tennis, its one of the bigger events outside of the 4 majors), its also in the area for some Bengals game and possible Reds game (though not lately). I'm not sure about the Good year blimp specifically, but I've seen the met life blimp parked at the airstrip up in Springboro and I've seen a blimp (can't remember who sponsored it) parked down at Lumpkin.2 points
-
The blimp has been around KI, but I think it was during the time of year when the tennis tournament is going on across I-71, not necessarily for KI, but you could at least see it from the park.2 points

This past Saturday, I took my first trip of the year up to Sandusky. It was also the first time one of my good friends has visited in some time. Last time he visited, Top Thrill Dragster was the new coaster and it intimidated him to the point that he wouldn't even ride. It was also a first time visit for my other buddy. We had a great time! I almost purchased Fast Lane Plus for this day due to the nice weather (60, sunny, and winds less than 10mph) but decided to wait it out until we got to the park- I'm glad I did. We left Cincinnati at 7:30am on Saturday. Stopped to get breakfast and made a couple of stops along the way- we arrived around 11:30am. Took the usual route, I-71 to State Route 13 and rode U.S. 250 into Sandusky. Just a heads up if heading that way soon...State Route 13 is closed once it splits from U.S. 250, so if you take State Route 13 to State Route 2 and come into the park on U.S. 6, you'll have to either take State Route 2 to U.S. 6 by going up by Maui Sands and heading east or stay on U.S. 250 to go to the park. Once we arrived at the park, we headed around to the Soak City lot and parked there. Work on the old Mean Streak is continuing and there is track also staged in the parking lot for Soak City. This thing is going to be insane and I can't wait to see what RMC has in store. The improvements to the Resort/CP Shores gate look amazing! I do have to say though that I miss the old tunnel that went underneath the road. First ride of the day was on Magnum XL-200. 10-15 minute wait. We sat in 2-1 and 2-2. Great ride as always, but not trimless as was the case when I rode in August of last year. After this, the CP app reported Maverick at a 30 minute wait. Decided to check the line out for Gemini on the way back. Red side only was running- looked like a 30 minute wait as the queue was back to the midway, we passed on this. Got back to Maverick and waited 45 minutes. Amazing ride in rows 5 and 6. Maverick is one of my favorite rides at this park and one of my top coasters. Immediately following, we headed up towards the front and rode Gatekeeper. App had it at an hour wait, we waited maybe 30 minutes at the most for rows 4 and 5. Following this, we were in search for food. Every stand and every restaurant had a long line. Was going to stop into Melt and try it out but forgot all about it. Stopped in the Red Garter Saloon for some food and some beer and then made a trip to the car to get some sunscreen and some eyedrops for my buddy. Once we were back inside we headed toward Valravn. The app had the wait time at 90 minutes but we waited 45 minutes for it. The ride also went down temporarily before we were set to board. We rode in the middle row on this one. After Valravn, we headed towards Millennium Force- my buddy has waited 10+ years to ride it and was looking forward to it. We waited 45 minutes and got rows 5 and 6. Amazing ride as always. Last but certainly not least. After that Millennium Force ride, all of us were finally ready to conquer the tallest coaster in the park, Top Thrill Dragster. As I mentioned earlier, last time my buddy was on Point, he was scared to death of it and ended up not riding. Additionally, out of all my visits to Cedar Point, I had not ridden it either as it was either down, too windy, or I was too intimidated to ride. We joined the line and waited only 20 minutes. We rode right as it was getting dark. I'm pumped to ride, I'm ready for it. I sit down in the car, I buckle those weird seatbelts that Intamin loves to use on their coasters and pulled down the lapbar. We got the all clear and advanced out of the station to the launch position. Needless to say I was sweating bullets for that launch- I've never been like this on a coaster! The train rolls back slightly and the brake fins disappear into the track, and then....WOW! I had my head down during the launch as I didn't want to take a bug to the face at 120 mph. We rode in row 4, my buddy in row 2. I was speechless when we got back to the station. I was still processing what had just happened when I got off of the ride. That launch is the most intense element I've ever experienced on a coaster and was the best part of the ride for me as well as the ascent up the top hat, the crest, and the return trip back down. I loved it! One of my top coasters in that park now for sure! After this, we headed down to Buffalo Wild Wings on U.S. 250 before heading home. Arrived back to my apartment on the east side of Cincinnati shortly before 3AM. Long day, but was well worth it. Tomorrow, Holiday World! FunPix photos are attached.2 points

If you look towards the bottom of the photograph, you can see a canoe I believe, thats probably what there doing and defiantly an awesome picture and would have been a cool thing to watch The Beast get built back then. Nice photo, Magenta Lizard!2 points

^ I think that might have been a dock for the canoes. The station is located on what used to be a pond where people could take boats out in it.2 points

Or you could do what I did and pull in at a random gate and drive the big circle around the expo center.2 points

Went back through The Bat queue this evening and saw the tree. It's dead and the tag is more than likely to indicate that it needs to be removed.2 points

I just got to look at the tree that is marked. I think that tree will be coming down because it is dead. I don't think it has anything to do with new construction. Sorry to be a party pooper.2 points

My ride was a bit disappointing. Could not quite get the click I needed to ride. I've lost quite a bit of weight, but I guess not quite enough yet! Gonna try again for every ten pounds I lose until I can fit. Had high hopes....1 point

I absolutely wouldn't go by what it says. The chance is only 50%, which could mean not at all. And it's not saying all day.1 point

As for actual advice, KK is kind of set up to do whatever at you leisure. I spend time wondering around and riding whatever I felt like and still got a lot done including hitting the 4 main coasters multiple times (sans T3, not that great a coaster IMO). Just try not to traverse the bridge too much. Lots of climbing involved, though, there is a crosswalk below it. Also be forewarned- the water park side of the park makes no sense from a logical path point of view.1 point

Its a dead ash tree... BECAUSE THEY KILLED IT FOR A PROPOSED RE-ROUTING OF The Bat TRACK! Pre-hype Bat 3.0, super inverted mega coaster! Banshee was just the beginning! VR Batman, BatCave Marvel partnership!1 point

Hey guys! For anyone that is interested, I've just completed a very in-depth review of The Beast on my blog. Feel free to check it out here! The Beast REVIEW: Still the most radically unique wooden coaster to ever exist I'd love to here your thoughts!1 point

I tried to use the app one day when I wasn't at the park. I just wanted to get a feel for what the wait times were for various attractions before I decided to make a trip out there. However, the app kept saying to visit park for wait times. So I'm assuming you have to be inside the park in order to receive wait times in the app? I had never used it before and wasn't sure if the app just wasn't working or if you truly had to be in the park in order for that feature to work. If so that would be a shame. A couple years ago in the weeks leading up to our Disney trip, I'd log on the MyDisneyExperience app and view wait times for various attractions throughout the day just to get a feel for what we might be expecting while visiting. I liked being able to do this and would be nice if the Kings Island app let you do this as well.1 point

Oh man, you got me thinking...how do I convince the misses (and myself, lol) to take my 2 oldest out of school for a day before school lets out? An empty park sounds awesome right now!1 point

In the fall, after they closed WWC, they built a temporary road across it (to aid Mystic Timbers construction) by filling in the channel with dirt. This would have had to be removed and placed somewhere, again.1 point
-
I am a simple man. A large glass of milk and a half bag of Oreos to dip in it is enough to make me very happy.1 point
-
And don`t forget that footings for Mystic Timbers required some dirt to be excavated. The amount of dirt cut or filled is actually a question on the City of Cincinnati building permit form. If you have excess dirt after building a building, they want to know where the dirt is being moved to.1 point
-
The only way to improve an Oreo is to dip it in chocolate, as Sweet Spot typically does for Dollar Days.1 point
-
All I can say is I remember seeing the dump trucks move the dirt from the construction areas to this field on the webcams. A bulldozer was used to smooth it out so that it would not be left in a large mound. This disturbed a huge area which is what I think you are seeing.1 point
-
The park built the foundation for the new restaurant in the water park which did require excavation. Mystic Timbers is built above White Water Canyon which required filling sections of the ride with dirt for construction equipment which was removed from this field and returned at the end of construction. The park also just built a new storage building which also would have required a foundation.1 point
-
But Mystic Timbers didn't need a fill/excavation. Most of the ride was placed on terrain, exception being the footers for the steel trusses supporting the sections over water. So where is this dirt coming from?1 point
-
^ That deal is also available to GOCC members, if that is helpful to anyone else who might be reading this thread.1 point
-
Just looks like they are pushing dirt away from that "shed." Don't think there is anything being demolished. As far as the instagram post...it's not necessarily reputable....if there really were folks seen walking around in suits checking it out, more would be reporting it.....most pages do this stuff for "likes."1 point

So when a beer stand changes it's name does it count as a new beer stand credit?1 point

This is what irks me about enthusiasts... something MR Hart said was taken completely out of context, posted here and now people are passing it as truth. Mr Hart NEVER said a $25-$30M coaster was coming to KK. He said he'd like to install one, but until he has proof that it would significantly boost attendance, it's too much of a gamble. I have no doubt something big will come to KK... eventually... but I'm not holding my breath. He's got bigger fish to fry...1 point

In Coastermatt's video, I was impressed that Ed Hart recognized Logan from Koaster Kids by name and acknowledged his scream rating. It did seem genuine, as did he when I spoke with him last year. Sent from my Nexus 5X using Tapatalk1 point

I feel like a Vekoma Boomerang or a Gravity Group shuttle woodie would fit in KK well.1 point

Mr Heart seemed specifically interested in people's opinions of Kings Island. Incorrect. Mr Hart responded to a hypothetical question posed to him. The question asked if we was "granted a wish for anything at KK, what would it be?" His response was that he wish he could know if adding a $20-$30M coaster would increase attendance significantly. He said that otherwise, it would be too big of a gamble since the market had drastically changed from 20 years ago when a large attraction install meant large attendance results. He then cited HW as an example saying they installed a B&M and their attendance went down. He also cited the previous times of large coaster installs at KK came at a time when "Kings Island wasn't installing big coasters." I attended the event. It was a very nice of the park to hold the tour, provide a free lunch and for Mr Hart to share his time with those that attended. I had a good time, and have nothing but good things to say about the generosity they showed. I will point out, that the most noteworthy thing of the day (for me) was when Mr Hart used the term "urban park." Mr Hart recognizes the biggest challenges he faces at KK - and it has nothing to do with rides. That was refreshing to hear.1 point

I would think that a day at a park other than KI would be taking some of the market. I am a big fan of KK, but I spend more days at KI. For me, it is nice to have an option to drive slightly more than an hour and ride some coasters that drive three hours for a long day at KI. But KK can't fill the KI void. That's why it's nice to have options.1 point

Hi guys I also attended the Keys to the Kingdom event, here are some of the things that i caught. The Original chassis from T2 (now T3 but T3 has new trains) where exact replica of what Arrow Dynamics made. So in a sense, Vekoma copied and pasted Arrow's design. On ride photo's will be returning for the 2017 season on T3! A beer garden will be added into the catering pavilions THIS WILL SHOOT DOWN ANY RUMORS OF WHY SIX FLAGS LEFT KENTUCKY KINGDOM IN 2010. Six flags wanted to have to pay no rent and the state had declined it, thus Six Flags abandoned the park and took two roller coasters with them. As for right now, Thunder Run will not receive a second train but.............It is an option! The carousel is unique to the park as it is the only one ever to stop in the same spot where it started on, which allows disabled guests to enter and exit the ride easily. For expansion.........they still have 120 acres! As long as the park's Enterprise is reliable it will stay. If one major breakdown occurs during this season, don't be to surprised to see it start to get removed this season. Originally, Eye of the storm was going to replace Enterprise for this season and sit on the enterprises location but plans changed. Until RMC came in with the idea of Storm Chaser, the park wanted to combine Twisted Twins and Thunder Run, extend the layout out near T3, and wanted to have the world's longest wooden roller coaster (which would break The Beast's record) Operating hours have been in the idea of extended. The Zeppelin kiddie ride is the only one left in The United States Finally the 2018/2019 plans are set to be released in April of this year.
