  1. I have serious doubts, but this is the kind of decision that could have been made in the 11th hour, I imagine... If this ends up being true, I'm excited! Kings Island needs more whirl-n-hurl type rides... plus Jeff Pike grew up right up the street from me, so I'm particularly happy for him.

  3. I disagree, this would be a great addition for a smaller CF park, but not KI. That is just my opinion.

  4. As an employee at Drop Tower, I would like to clarify that the the title is awarded to the height of drop. Not the height of the tower. For example, Drop Tower drops you 267 feet at 65 miles per hour but the entire towers height is 315 feet. When the ride came out in 1999 it was in fact the worlds tallest Gyro Drop, which in simple terms means that the structure is round with a full ring around it. So things like Power Tower at Cedar Point would not be considered a Gyro Drop. Also, as time passes by, in the 18 years the ride has been alive, technology has been improved and there are other gyro drops with higher falls. The one thing that will be true for quite some time is that Drop Tower is the safest ride at Kings Island due to the use of Neodymium magnets and ferromagnetic metals. Its a flawless braking system and the restraint system makes it even more safe with the transfer mechanism and the good old Intamin Seat Belts. Summary: Drop Tower was the worlds tallest Gyro Drop, but no longer is.

  7. While the child in me is hoping for the longest, fastest B&M Giga. I would be perfectly happy with an X Base expansion. With a few flats, and God willing a restroom.

  8. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tLi8boiQsBU This breathtaking B&M Giga by the name of Hejdlost would be a perfect fit into Kings Islands coaster lineup. The way the coaster dips and weaves throughout the forest, as well as the seamless and picturesque environment, makes everything about this coaster brilliant. The trees seem to be immense and the way the water glistens is somewhat tranquil. Not to mention, the way the coaster effortlessly plummets into the ravines. The coaster from a first glance reminds me of an "Outlaw Run" or "Lightning Rod", yet the beautiful B&M supports and track immediately remind any enthusiast of "Fury 325" or "Leviathan". The transitions are seamless and heart lined perfectly, and the tunnels remind me of Fury's "Hive Dive" or even The Beasts double helix tunnel. The Coaster combines the elements of a B&M but most impressively delivers from a terrain element.

  9. I was saying December just because of the Christmas comment. Not being literal. Guess that was lost in translation. Anyhoo, I ain't gettin' up in arms about it.
    2 points
  10. Wait...it can't be ready yet. It hasn't caught fire.

  11. If they think it could be testing in December, then I would go with that. This project has gone on well long enough to have the trains ready by then.

  12. Funny, I'm kind of crossing my fingers for Dub and his fiancé at this point I would absolutely love to win, but Jim is less enthusiastic about it. And there's something about that that certainly doesn't feel right. We've waited almost 20 years so far to get married, I can wait longer for something we both are excited about! (but I better be invited up to the reception if it's in the International Restaurant )

  13. Wow!!! So after chugh34 pointing out how I missed some materials on the website that proved to be super handy I stumbled across the #HauntedWedding!! What a super cool idea! My fiancé and I had our first date at Kings Island and go there whenever we get the chance. And as some of you may already know we also got engaged in front of the royal fountain on June 30th. It also just so happens that our favorite event at #KingsIsland is the Haunt. To beat it all the wedding takes place on 10/13/2017 the date of the KICentral meetup and we already planned to be there for my birthday which is on the 16th. It seems fate may be at work so I just filled out an entry. I didn't think it would be possibly to "one up" the surprise proposal in front of the royal fountain... but what if it was followed by a surprise haunted wedding in the same place we got engaged??!?!! Everyone cross your fingers for me please! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  15. Early August - Those footings and utility lines being placed were for the massive candy canes and other features for Winterfest....highly doubt they're for a Skywarp. 8/16 - Sometimes there isn't an announcement to make and even if there is, it only makes sense to make an announcement when it will help benefit the business.....i.e. boost season pass sales and/or attendance which Kings Island isn't lacking as of this time. 9/4 Following Week - Construction walls go up to keep folks out of the demolition area...and to hide what's being done from the public eye. We all likely know what is going in these buildings place....so no real announcement is needed. 9/28 - Probably an oops on the behalf of the original poster as you pointed out in your post. If you look at the land it's not necessarily level from Tower Gardens to the buildings being torn down (yes, they could fill in or take out). Also, the land is much much bigger than the footprint which is 170 feet per http://www.skylineattractions.com/?p=rides&i=skywarp. Could we be getting a Skywarp and some other additions or we could be getting nothing other than what we can presume is going to be placed there? I'd venture to say it's more than likely just what we are presuming to be placed in that area. Not everything we see is a clue for the next new ride...it more than likely is simple upkeep/updates.

  16. As much as Surf Dog does I suppose. The manufacturer claims it is one. I think it looks like an interesting enough flat ride. I think it is more likely that reporter got his wires crossed (about what project at KI the manufacturer was involved with) than I believe that this is actually planned for KI next year. But, if it is, I wonder where it would go? In part of Dinos? Off of X-Base? Around Flight Commander's unused pad?

  17. ^ This kind of shocks me: Cedar Point is WAY ahead with six 200'+ roller coasters. I am looking over on the RCDB page, sorted by height, and it seems no one else has more than two over 200'. A few of the parks that have 2... Six Flags Magic Mountain (Goliath + Superman: Escape from Krypton) (X2 would be a 3rd but it is only 175 feet tall with a 215 foot drop) Six Flags Great Adventure (Nitro + Kingda Ka) Six Flags Over Texas (Titan + Mr. Freeze Reverse Blast) Carowinds (Fury 325 + Intimidator) Canada's Wonderland (Leviathan + Behemoth) Fuji Q Highland (Eejanaika + Fujiyama) ...and I may have missed one or two but I think that's it. Heck, in 2009, Kings Island would have made this during the brief period when both Son of Beast and Diamondback operated at the park!

  18. https://mobile.twitter.com/cedarpoint/status/913514200428838912 In follow up to my other post, Steel Vegeanance was topped off today at its max height of 205 feet. Huge shoutout to the RMC crew as well as Cedar Point. I have a really strong feeling that this ride may truly be the best RMC and dare I say best steel coaster, we will have to wait until May to judge.

  19. I always figured the bulk of the layout was back towards the parking lot. I had no idea. Regardless, I love Stricker's Grove train and would really like to see something like that at the park.

  20. So I saw this video on YouTube and in the comments he mentions a Huss Breakdance. While I realize that it should all be taken with a grain of salt the Huss Breakdance that Cedar Fair purchased on their European trip has still not found a park yet. Originally it was thought that perhaps Worlds of Fun's 2018 addition Nordic Chaser was going to be it but it sounds like that ride does not spin. I found a video of the Breakdance that Cedar Fair got from Holiday Park in Germany and it would be a great fit for KI. This along with a couple other flats would make some nice additions next year and this should even be able to fit on the old Flight Commander pad or even go over in Oktoberfest.

  21. I would agree that this would not be a good fit for KI. I think the park has done a good job in recent years of adding more high capacity rides and I would like to see that continue.

  22. It looks like ScottFiasTV tagged Kings Island in the post where the picture was directed towards Six Flags DK

  23. I agree with you on that one. I don't think this (Flat ride/coaster) needs to be at KI, Like you stated maybe a smaller park like MA or Dorney Park would be a better place for this ride to go. They also need this ride more, According to Wikipedia the last time any of these parks got a new coaster was 2008 for MA and 2012 for Dorney (which was actually a relocation of an Invertigo model at CGA). Anyways, I think this ride would be a great addition for both of these parks.

  24. Kings Island could use more thrilling flat rides, but this certainly isn't what I was expecting. I guess we'll have to wait to find out whether it's a hint or a red herring. Setting expectations early might lessen the social media disappointment when the follow-up to Mystic Timbers is announced, and it's not a giga.
    1 point
  25. Yep. That's the basis of my doubts too. Then again, Don can be creative. This is a tweet out of a reporter a 1,000 miles away and it's creating quite the buzz. But yes - I think that they are going to mention that Jeff Pike helped with Mystic and it was lost in context.

  26. To be honest though, I'd enjoy a smaller mini coaster of sorts. Another Adventure Express or the like. The land is will layed for something like that. Make use of the creek in the back.

  29. I really like Hejdlost's design; the way it uses the terrain makes me think of Beast or Voyage. However, I'm not crazy about the color scheme (I think I'd go for forest green track and brown supports), but I could get used to it.

  31. https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog/september-construction-update Recently, Cedar Point and Tony Clark released a new update regarding Steel Vengeance. RMC is making excellent progress and track work is 95% finished. The top of the lift and the first drop are expected to be finished in the upcoming week. Mechanical work (Computer systems, Braking systems and the lift) as well as clean-up is expected to begin in October. If everything goes smoothly testing may begin as early as December. Spring of 2018 holds many anticipated rides. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  32. Right, that was my point. CF knows we love Millie. They know we would love one at KI. I don't think they need Don to tell them. Sorry if my original post did not relay what I was trying to say.

  33. Don is not the ultimate decision maker in something like this.

  34. Yeah, and even if it's a kid we are all adults. Someone coming back to join their party after running to the bathroom or meeting up isn't going to be the end of the world. Sure it's rude on their behalf. But unless it's just like blatantly trying to get away with something with a group of people I just let it go by. My day is to important to me to let it be ruined by a person or two that likely will just fill a single seat anyway. I'm not sure why so many *enthusiasts* get a stick up their butt about it. I've seen some people get so irate about this. It doesn't even upset me at all unless it's obvious they are just trying to skip the line. Letting your kid catch up to you in line or a friend isn't that big of a deal to me at all and it will make no noticeable difference in how long I wait in line. Now when some parents drop their kid off at the door of Chipotle and then I'm standing in line behind them assuming it's a short line and then the parents come marching in after parking with 6 other kids as well as themselves, Yeah I've been upset about that before but that's not what is going on at KI.

  35. I cant comment on the Mazes, but I can not go to Haunt without catching at least 1 Blood Drums show. I recommend it

  36. I loved Outlaw Run. I wouldn't mind seeing KI get a longer version of something similar. But I've thought for awhile that if KI were ever to get rid of Vortex that a T-Rex would fit beautifully in that footprint. I think that's what we'll see is a T-Rex but I'd prefer the ground up woodie.

  37. Really looking forward to Winterfest this year. I really hope Tinker's Toy Factory is a reworking of Santa's Toy Factory. That was my favorite show that KI ever did. I'll be a little busy that time of year (I can't say why yet...) so I hope I'm able to see Tinker's and all the other entertainment offerings; it looks like a great line-up!

  38. Years ago, while I was in line with some *enthusiasts* for Double Loop at Geauga Lake, a little boy walked past us in line. The male enthusiast I was with - a hot head - grabbed the boys shoulder and said something to the effect of "where do you think you're going?" The next thing I knew, the boys Father, who was just a few feet in front of us, walked up to the *enthusiast* with fist drawn and said "Get your hand off my kid" or something to the sort. It turned into a heated exchange of words about line jumping, rule breaking etc. Although I didn't say anything to the *enthusiast* (as to not worsen the situation) I didn't blame that Father one bit. It was terribly embarrassing and shocking. I thought the *enthusiast* was going to get socked in the kisser, and by default, I'd have to deal with the fallout - or perhaps get socked just by association. It basically ruined the day - all because someone tried to police a situation. Don't ever try to police a situation, or physically deal with a rule breaker - you may end up with something broken yourself (or worse) and it's simply not worth it.

  39. I think the turnaround will be faster than it was for SOB. It took months to raze SOB, and I think DA could be cleared in a couple of weeks. Plus, I think that if they have plans for the area then we will start seeing action very quickly. My ballot goes towards 2019.

  40. When I worked at the Kingdom, we were very low tech about this. There was no real way to monitor the coaster lines outside of your immediate view. We relied on guest reports of line jumping and in the event it was reported, we had to get confirmation from someone nearby outside of the original reporting party. Then we called security and before the person even knew what was going on, they were walked out of the line (and sometimes the park, depending on their interaction with security).

  42. I'm pretty much okay with the coaster line up for Winterfest, having been at SFOG toward the opening of their season and most coasters were only running 1 train that normally would have 2 which extended waits. There's enough at Winterfest for me to do that I feel like I'll have to make several trips to be able to see all the shows I want to see.

  43. I think something along the lines of the CI&LC Railroad would be a welcomed and successful addition to Coney's lineup. Obviously with the parking lot it would be built elsewhere. But really. That would be rad.
    1 point
  44. Waaaay back when I worked at KI, we would monitor this constantly, then when the line jumpers reached the front of the line, security was waiting to escort them away. However we also encouraged the guests not to police it - for fear of this type of reaction.

  45. I think its scary how a ride manufacturing company can be the source of so many accidents and even scarier that the company acknowledges this and treats it as normal. I'm sorry but I'll stick to Mack, B&M, RMC, GCI or literally any other company for my thrills.

  46. CF may not go to Intamin for new rides, but they still need them for parts and upkeep of rides.

  47. I'm hearing a lot of the general public freaking out that it doesn't have shoulder restraints because it goes upside down. Despite the other coasters that do the exact same thing. "The GP is strong with this one."
