  1. The only time a Diamondback seat looks bad is when I am not sitting in it. lol

  2. The Eagles that KI has now, while nice, pales in comparison to the original set that were at KI. The original set (which is now at Carowinds), had 10 tubs, versus the 8 that are on the one in Planet Snoopy. Not to mention, the ride originally opened at Coney Island in 1940! And it is far better than the three point challenge that now exists on the site the Scooters used to occupy.

  4. I am actually amazed at how well the Flight of Fear theming has been kept up. The ride is 22 years old this year! Yes, there have been a couple people that have helped preserve and even enhance the theming over the last several years. Heck, even Backlot still has the fire effect working most of the time, which is amazing considering the park has to pay for the propane to run the flame. And Backlot itself is 12 years old this year!

  5. If true, I applaud this move. The seats have looked rather disgusting the last few years. I would appreciate the switch. Although, it will definitely look different. Over time, we will get used to it, I am sure. Keep in mind that when Drop Tower first opened, it didn`t have the black seats that it has now.

  7. The original photo came from a maintenance worker on Facbeook in a group. It's fair to assume we'll be seeing the black seats on Diamondback in 2018. They've attempted to have the orange seats cleaned/fixed/etc. by those in maintenance and 3rd parties and the damage is too far gone. There are several B&M Coasters that have either black or really dark colors on their seats. I'd rather not see anyone wear booty shorts anyway...so if they do...serves 'em right for getting their buns toasted.

  8. I say it's about time that Kings Island Diamondback opened-air stadium seats are getting refurbished. Diamondback's older stadium seating weren't aging alluringly, they were optically unappealing and were in desperate need of refurbishment. Now, the seats are not orange in color, but black which could be its official, new look for the 2018 operating season. I say, "could", because the seats probably weren't painted yet which was the discussion on instagram. I'll share an instagram picture of the newly refurbished Diamondback stadium seats here on Kings Island Central. I'd like to know what you all think about the alleged new look of Diamondback. FYI, this instagram picture was posted on January 9th, 2018. My take on it is, I'll find the seating more appealing if they are black rather than the original orange open-air stadium seating. The trains are already sleek in design being that it alluringly exists with steel and fiberglass. Here's the link to cite my sources. All thanks and credit goes to fyecoasters16. Thanks for sharing:) I'd like to know what you think now.

  12. I saw your suggestions with interactions of other rides and I wanted to point out a few Diamondback flying past train at 80mph Banshee meeting up with Delirium at 139ft Banshee and Bat “kissing” (which is what I was told was called when Banshee and Bat meet Red Racer and WindSeeker There is also some times when Adventure Express meets up with Banshee. What I mean is that when you crest the drop you can wave at the AE station. And maybe they will wave back. It’s kind of a rarer one though cause people don’t notice fast enough.

  13. Yes. I've never had frostbite, and I certainly didn't want to get it at KI. I'm not the biggest fan of winter coats, but I do appreciate them (and gloves) when it's bitterly cold like it was on the last day of Winterfest.

  14. I agree with you on one level, but I disagree with you on another. Sure, @Hawaiian Coasters 325's ideas are far outside what most would consider probable, but who are we to judge what is too improbable for posting? It's all relative. I find the majority of giga speculation outlandish and ungrounded, but I don't think any of it should be banned or whatever. You yourself said that these next few months will be slow, so who is he hurting with his ideas? We aren't CF Corporate. We don't have a deadline to submit some reasonable proposal. We also have absolutely no evidence to go off of. At this point, the giga may be in X-Base, down Coney Mall, a polar coaster around the Eiffel Tower, or never happening. I think it does more damage to the community to tell people that their opinions are invalid or unwelcome than someone posting a little outside of reality. Let's not get too full of ourselves -- we're just chatting about an amusement park.

  15. I cannot agree with you enough on this. I love being able to eat outside when I want to...but I'd also like to eat inside when it's just too hot or the weather is a little bit too damp. It's not fun trying to eat your food while it's raining.

  16. I understand! But be glad we got something other than pop music on IS! Besides Mystic Timbers, that was the highlight of my KI summer last year!

  17. Well, my ticket has been purchased (thank you @malem for letting me come as your guest) and I'm super pumped for my first Holiwood Nights! I'm most looking forward to trim-less Voyage and the behind-the-scenes Thunderbird tour. Also looking forward to riding Thunderbird and the Legend again as well as hoping to get a ride on Frightful Falls (as it was down due to weather when I went two years ago...).

  18. Or drop through the Royal Fountain, then go into Skyline and let you pick up a Coney, immediately turning to go back to the station. Jokes aside, I feel like even outlandish ideas can form much better ideas. I mean, without ridiculous ones, there may not be any ideas.

  20. At my first Coasterstock, I was eating a wrap at Reds. He stopped by to ask how it was, and how I was enjoying Coasterstock. He asked to tweet my photo. Several other times I've seen him do the same as Magenta 🦎 mentioned. And I bet he's responsible for The Beast hot chocolate and cinnamon [emoji506]! Sent from my LG-LS993 using Tapatalk

  21. I've given him a bit of a hard time before, for "removing the wraps from dining" (a decision I don't think was even his) but I hope Chef Nate isn't leaving. I feel like a lot of positive changes have been made the past few years with him as the head chef. But really, the thing that impresses me most is how active he tends to be in the day-to-day operations of all the different food service locations, pitching in when needed. On many days at the beginning and ending of seasons, I've seen him in the kitchens helping with the cooking grunt work. On a handful of occasions throughout the season he's dropped into a location when I was there (just to check in that things are going well, from what I can tell) and personally assembled my order and others as long as he's there.

  23. Might be showing my age but anyone here remember Marathon Turnpike? My cousin and I absolutely LOVED having the Turnpike as well as "two" different Antique car rides. Oh, the smell those cars emitted, it was wonderful!! Not sure it was the BIGGEST mistake they made in ride removal, but if CF can maintain these cars at "all" of their locations with exception of KI, Carowinds and Knott's, surely there's a way to revive them. Interesting note.....Michigan's Adventure has Be-Bop Blvd which has electrified 1950's cars, so it is possible to make them more efficient. The Hillbilly Jalopies at Carowinds were removed in 1988 by KEC (Kings Entertainment Company), Paramount removed both layouts at KI and I don't believe Knotts ever had an antique car ride but I could be mistaken.

  25. I asked the park if the FB post is true. The PR department has not seen any new seats, so no official word from them. If the picture is legit, I am thinking the new black seats will be hard to get used to, but will be very sleek on the trains when we do get used to them.

  26. I have to wonder about the CF theming issue as well. My home park is Carowinds and when Paramount was in control, Top Gun always had misters working on The Bat wing as well as the Top Gun movie soundtrack playing in the station. I know that this is more of a visual and sound effect and not so much "theming" I guess, but you get where I'm coming from. Added to the fact that it was a movie studio, so I guess its only natural to have heavy theming. Now that I think about it, I honestly don't recall EVER seeing the misters working since CF took over. I think it's interesting that they might be listening to the surveys, reading forums, looking at social media e.t.c. because CF has decided to "somewhat" theme CGA's Railblazer with the massive fake rock tunnels and CP's Steel Vengence theming with it's three characters (Blackjack, Wild One and Digger) all over Instagram and Twitter. I'll reserve my judgment for the coaster theming itself when I get there in June, but I'm not anticipating a great effort on theming for whatever it's worth. Just can't wait to ride!! I know CF will never have "highly" themed rides like what you would see in Europe, but I just hope that going forward they look at how successful MT was on it's theming and take notes from it with regard to all new coaster installs in the chain. Sorry about derailing... now back to "what could 2018 bring?" I want my Antique cars back. #bringbacktheTiques

  27. Bingo. I like the ride alright, but I won't wait in line for it. It has some decent theming, but it belongs in Action Zone. It always has. The Antique Cars, on the other hand, were a great fit, as well as a leisurely ride that was great for families with those who are either too young or have a condition that prevents them from riding most rides.

  30. I honestly think KI now just uses the standard Muzak channels, which is so disappointing and quite honestly, distracting. When I was a kid/teen, I distinctly remember very thematic music - not just the Paramount days either but even prior to that...The fountains on international street even seemed synced with the music, with the fountain height and colors varying as the music varied. I don't even think this would be a hard improvement for them to make...I've noticed the international street music is same/similar to the Paramount days, which is cool...but it's lost its gusto, so to speak, in terms of syncing with the fountain activity - so that could be fixed. The Peanuts franchise has some killer music, so that could be updated. Coney Mall needs more dated era-type music, etc. I think I could go on for days about this because I really miss how well it used to be done (or at least as well as my memory serves me).

  32. I'd say antique cars since the eagles have made a return. Like I've preached before, we need more grandma and grandpa rides around the park. There aren't that many rides that elderly people can enjoy with their grandchildren aside from the train and a few others.

  33. As far as sunglasses - I've always been a severe squinter, as shown in most of my childhood photos. Sunglasses in the park are a must for me for any level of comfort. I just tend to buy ones that fit snugly and not spend more than $5 on them.

  34. @Hawaiian Coasters 325 Just some food for thought... how many attractions at KI interact with each other? Mystic Timbers has interactions with the train and WWC, but that's it. KI is not a park that has coasters close enough to interact with one another, which is why I find your mock-ups pretty far-fetched. Definite improvement with the second one over the first one (having the ride go through the middle of the Coney Midway? This isn't CP), but still not likely in the slightest. I know you said it was "unlikely," but why even speculate something that's so unlikely? It's quite different to say, "I know it's unlikely, but the giga may work better in Rivertown than Action Zone/Coney Mall," because while it is unlikely, it is still within a normal scale of likeliness - having outlandish ideas and spamming a board with them is not on a scale of likeliness, and only stifles real conversation/theories and encourages others to up the ante with more outlandish ideas if we give the impression that such "out of the box" thinking is the norm or encouraged - which further stifles real conversation. I don't mean to single you out, since there are several others who encourage empty talk and drive forward debates that go in circles because they cannot be reasoned with, but this is an issue that will have to be addressed at some point. Let's face it guys, news is slow as to what amusement parks do with developments and it is several years between big announcements with not a lot of new content to talk about, but idle unfounded speculation does lower the quality of posts and ideas in the community.

  35. The terrain beyond where my image ends is very hilly - I've never walked it, but I've driven it several times. I hear Dollywood has some hilly terrain in its guest areas though, so making the area more Oktoberfest themed and a transition into X-Base/Coney Mall would be nice. The biggest obstacle is that the maintenance road right there is the quickest way into Action Zone for vehicles, the only other road goes deep into undeveloped KI territory behind Firehawk/FOF and comes out under Banshee... which takes forever, especially if there were some emergency situation in Action Zone. So not only would KI have to do all the work needed for developing the area to Oktoberfest for guest use, but it may have to do a lot of work creating new roads in its backstage. Racer does not have a storage shed for its trains, it leaves them on the track every night. Its PLC (Programmable Logic Computer, it's the brain of the ride) is under the station. Nothing maintenance related about it is stored in the ride's area, because the Woodshop (which handles wooden coaster maintenance) are the red buildings visible from X-Base.

  36. Story about SoB bolts and the rides department: In the ride department's office, some of the area supervisors have SoB bolts on their desks, but nobody is allowed to touch them because they are "cursed to close down a ride." There was a Rivertown area supervisor who touched one and the Crypt closed that year, and a Coney Mall area supervisor accidentally touched one early in 2017 and then Dinosaurs Alive closed.

  41. Ya got me! You are right, that was a poorly written post. In the the days of text to speech and being on mobile, some grammar is not going to be on par with what it should be. As moderators we understand that. We do not moderate grammar unless it is totally unreadable and/or makes no sense. As moderators we have to make decisions which are best for the community. Those decisions will not make everyone happy. I do find it funny you want me and others to adhere to the policies , but your post is in violation of several itself. If you do not like how KIC admin are moderating you are more than welcome to send us a PM about your concerns.

  43. I will say I work for the park and I also work at Luxottica and I take all the unclaimed sunglasses and prescription glasses from lost & found and they are donated to Onesight for recycling which they provide free glasses to underprivileged countries so they can see the world clearly. The rides of which glasses are lost most is Banshee & Firehawk. Those inversions will make them fall. So buy the strap for the glasses or store them in your cargo shorts in a case to keep the frame from bending. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
