  1. I just want to know how KI scored Ridiculously Photogenic Guy for the Mystic Timbers pic that's the background for the Coasterstock page... In the back seat there

  2. Hello everyone! My new blog post is up: a complete history of the King Cobra, the world's first true stand-up roller coaster. Enjoy! http://kingsislandghosts.blogspot.com/2018/01/stand-up-thrills-story-behind-worlds.html

  3. My last day of classes is May 4. I'm considering joining Great Ohio Coaster Club and making sure I won't be scheduled to work on May 18-19 (though it was cool meeting/seeing Coasterstock attendees enjoying Vortex when I was working there the morning of May 19 last year!). If things work out, this will be my first Coasterstock. -BFF, who's excited that Vortex is once again included in the 10:30-midnight ERT on Friday, May 17.

  4. Well, Shambhala's splashdown is a fake one though, I believe. Also regardless of whether you include Shambhala or not, It's the *longest* coaster with a splashdown! (Don't hurt me, first time poster)

  5. Get yer tickets! https://www.visitkingsisland.com/play/events/coasterstock Ticket sales end a week earlier this year, on May 6, so don't put it off until last minute! There is also an option this year, for $10, to have all your swag mailed to you prior to the event and skip check-in.

  6. https://www.carowinds.com/blog/2018/the-carowinds-carousel-moving-history The ride is being moved to near the Vortex and restored. Looks like they are taking the time to truly celebrate this treasured ride. Hopefully, the Flying Scooter at Carowinds is relocated within the park as well. I believe they removed it as part of their new Camp Snoopy additions.

  8. I had planned early on (weeks in advance) to go to the KIC meetup on closing day of Winterfest. This was when the temps first started dipping super low, and there was a lot of talk of the park not opening for the night. I made a point to keep an eye on park social media postings, keep up with my KI friends and the KI Pass Holders Facebook group and even called guest services to ensure the park would be open. It was decided very early in the day that no rides would operate. Boo Blasters was the only actual ride that was running. Ride ops were told not to even report to work. This sort of eliminates the idea that it could have been the KI/MV RR or Mysti’s crew(s). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  9. We are 1.5 hours away but when you go from ERT to ERT (or as we call it OTP to CTP), that makes for a long day.

  11. Ok. Tickets purchased and hotel booked. Gotta update vacation calendars and should be good to go. Lets hope Mother Nature cooperates for the ERTs this year

  12. Yes you must be a member of one of the approved clubs. You can see that list if you go to the Coasterstock info page on the park website. I personally joined the Great Ohio Coaster Club (GOCC). Literally the only reason I joined was to attend Coasterstock last year. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/play/events/coasterstock Here's the link for Coasterstock and approved coaster clubs.

  13. Yes it is! After meeting up with so many of you and getting involved with the coaster enthusiast community, this will be my first event. I'm still debating on which club to join, but I'm excited for what the future holds. I'll be beside myself I'm sure. Hope you guys are ready for that!! lol

  15. I saw your suggestions with interactions of other rides and I wanted to point out a few Diamondback flying past train at 80mph Banshee meeting up with Delirium at 139ft Banshee and Bat “kissing” (which is what I was told was called when Banshee and Bat meet Red Racer and WindSeeker There is also some times when Adventure Express meets up with Banshee. What I mean is that when you crest the drop you can wave at the AE station. And maybe they will wave back. It’s kind of a rarer one though cause people don’t notice fast enough.

  16. I'd love to see an indoor spinning wild mouse coaster themed to a runaway minecart. Think Exterminator at Kennywood. More unrealistically, a flying theater.

  18. Good read! I always felt smaller stand-up coasters were generally better received than the larger ones. Gerogia Scorcher comes to mind

  21. Flight Commander was a death trap waiting to happen. The same thing that happened to her would have happened sooner or later to a single rider that fainted, had a heart attack, etc. The root of the issue was with the restraints and how the manufacturers wanted all restraints in empty seats kept up, not that she was drunk.

  23. And without getting too political the rise of the flag in preference was also around the same time of civil rights marches.... I think it’s just the sign of the times. Move on and let the past go, kill it if you must. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  24. I'm really wanting to see Mack added to this lineup since Intiman isn't producing coasters for CF.

  25. Wow. I did not realize I had the same birthday as King Cobra- April 22nd. (Granted King Cobra was a few years before I was born) Granted, I never got to ride this coaster. I do remember seeing it in 2000 on my first visit to Kings Island and thinking it looked cool with the big loop right next to the walkway and stuff, but the fact it went upside down intimidated me as I was just a kid. By the time I finally felt ready to ride roller coasters it was 2009, and King Cobra was already long gone and replaced by Delirium. Also, good article IMO.

  26. This will be my first Coasterstock as well. I want to get an opinion on something. Is there more to get out of going both days or is going one day or the other pretty evened out? I don't think I could hack it 2 days of such length at Kings Island, even if its only in May when its still cooler out.

  28. Is there a ride manufacturer that still makes log flume type rides that Cedar Fair still might work with? A water ride from Hopkins may be a cool replacement. I've always said that they should just flatten the Box o' Fun and put Kenton's Cove back in, but it would be cool to build the ride into the building and make it look like an abandoned mine.

  29. A Skyroller would be great anywhere in the park, honestly. I'd love to see one go where Flight Commander used to be. The added elevation would make for some great views.

  30. I think that they should take out the latter game and put in a coaster there. I always thought that they could put an Oktoberfest themed coaster. I'm thinking something themed to Harvesting or something. What type of coaster? I say b&m or Mack giga and would use the area left of Flight of Fear and would also connect to Xbase and would have an Oktoberfest sign coming from Xbase entering Oktoberfest. I agree on more flats as well. I think relocating slingshot would be nice and put some flats there. Also put in a restroom and another food option.

  31. Seats, not trains. Not announced, a leaked photo from (I believe they are saying) someone in maintenance's instagram. I hope said employee didn't lose their job over it. But if you wanna know more read back in the thread, it would make more sense than repeating all of it over.

  32. I honestly would love to see it moved to Rivertown.... 1) it'd be better on guests having all water rides in one area...no need to go across the park to go to the next one while in wet clothes 2) It'd open up Action Zone more 2a) would be a great place to move BLSC 3) I feel like it could really refresh the plot of land that the Crypt building sets on.

  35. I have a feeling that social media plays in to this a lot as well - a cool theme to a ride will get people talking, taking pictures and sharing them, etc. I also think CF knows that the demographic spending the most money in the park remember the days long before CF, especially the Paramount years, where theming was a huge element of the experience...I have worked in marketing for over 15 years and it's all about pleasing your top spending segment, knowing the efforts will trickle down to the other segments and make them happy as well...creating a whole new generation of park enthusiasts and the cycle just repeats itself.

  37. ^Considering all the other 300+ ft attractions at Kings Island, I don't think that'd be too much of an issue to shoehorn a giga in the park.

  38. I am actually amazed at how well the Flight of Fear theming has been kept up. The ride is 22 years old this year! Yes, there have been a couple people that have helped preserve and even enhance the theming over the last several years. Heck, even Backlot still has the fire effect working most of the time, which is amazing considering the park has to pay for the propane to run the flame. And Backlot itself is 12 years old this year!

  40. Or drop through the Royal Fountain, then go into Skyline and let you pick up a Coney, immediately turning to go back to the station. Jokes aside, I feel like even outlandish ideas can form much better ideas. I mean, without ridiculous ones, there may not be any ideas.

  41. I agree with you on one level, but I disagree with you on another. Sure, @Hawaiian Coasters 325's ideas are far outside what most would consider probable, but who are we to judge what is too improbable for posting? It's all relative. I find the majority of giga speculation outlandish and ungrounded, but I don't think any of it should be banned or whatever. You yourself said that these next few months will be slow, so who is he hurting with his ideas? We aren't CF Corporate. We don't have a deadline to submit some reasonable proposal. We also have absolutely no evidence to go off of. At this point, the giga may be in X-Base, down Coney Mall, a polar coaster around the Eiffel Tower, or never happening. I think it does more damage to the community to tell people that their opinions are invalid or unwelcome than someone posting a little outside of reality. Let's not get too full of ourselves -- we're just chatting about an amusement park.

  42. Just because you said it's unlikely doesn't mean we can't give feedback . Honestly I don't see Coney Mall as a strong area for a giga coaster, I'd say Action Zone or X-Base would probably be best.

  43. Just sayin' man. Be more realistic and then we can have healthy discussions about it. Right now you are hey put a coaster in the parking lot so you can ride it up to the gate. haha

  44. I think you're overestimating the amount of space between The Bat and Banshee where you have the lift starting. I also think you're underestimating the elevation changes in that part of the property as well as the sheer scale of coaster you're proposing.

  45. I'm fully aware that corporate handles development. That is why KI progressively feels more and more corporate. As far as KI as a theme park, the unifying theme was a celebration of Cincinnati. Each themed land, apart from HB, was a celebration of an aspect of Cincinnati. I would say KI lost its standing as a theme park during the Paramount years.
