  1. If a tree falls in the forest and and no enthusiast is around to hear it, is it for a giga?

  2. I used to be on the "We need a Giga" bandwagon. Until.... Mystic Timbers! The ride that showed me it doesn't have to be tall to be a blast!

  3. Yes! Exactly! Skyride desperately needs your help over The Ride Game Thread. It is being savagely attacked by mongrols that don’t realize a park will always remain Tier ll without a Skyride.

  7. About to be judged very seriously right now...but I wish Son of Beast was never torn down. Hear me out, I'm serious. I've never ridden it before, but I would've loved to ride it. As a coaster enthusiast, it seemed like such a groundbreaking coaster at the time. Sure, it had it's mechanical/technical flaws, but maybe...possibly could it have been fixed up? Wasn't RMC a thing at the time? Also, we desperately need the Skyride and Antique Cars back. Those are a staple at so many amusement parks, and we don't have one.

  8. For me... Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal- Never got to ride it, as it was removed before I was tall enough, but it tied in so well with Rivertown. Cuddle Up- Another ride before my time, but a classic that my parents loved, with my dad saying he "never truly appreciated the engineering of that ride until it was gone." Enchanted Voyage- Yet another ride before my time, but after riding It's A Small World at Disney World back in 2015 during a high school choir trip, this ride would have been cool to see themed to Peanuts, with the boats entering and exiting through Snoopy's dog house rather than a giant television. And let's not forget the snail wishing riders to "Have a huh huh huh happy day!" Les Taxis/ Ohio Overland Auto Livery- This one I did ride. Very enjoyable and quiet experience. The Auto Livery side fit in very well with Rivertown and the old time Cincinnati theming, and Les Taxis looked very nice from the midway walking towards the Tower. Backlot really kind of clashes with Coney Mall and Rivertown. It can be a fun coaster, but it can't top the Antique Cars.

  9. A great benefit of being a Kings Island enthusiast is that you log a lot of miles! I decided use my iPhone Health app to keep track of how many #KIMiles that I log in the 2018 season. The app graphs the distance travelled by time, so this will help me deduct the non-park mileage. Here’s my info from Gold Pass Preview Night and Opening Day! 04/13: 5.6 -.25 = 5.35 park miles 04/14: 10.2 2018 total: 15.55 miles

Line jump every coaster que at least once Explore an “Authorized Personel Only” area each visit Get soaked on Congo’s bridge and immediately ride every attraction in Action Zone Flip the bird for every on-ride photo Dribble a basketball in the longest que of the day for the entire time Tell everyone around me how two people died on this ride last year Feed the bees by Rivertown LaRosa patio at least one Dr. Pepper each visit Deposit some “chew” in every drinking fountain Point out to the Mystic Timbers Crew that Lightning Rod is much better. Take a selfie on every lift hill Complain loudly to the line separator about the long wait. Clean out all the fast food bags from my car before I leave the lot Make a Coke Freestyle drink of no less than 50 different flavors Wait until I am at the front of a food line to ask my kids what they want for lunch Berate The Vortex crew for the rough ride Smoke a cigar in Planet Snoopy Did I miss anything?

  11. Last week my daughter and me headed down to Dollywood & Carowinds for a half-week vacation during her spring break. I will be putting my star rating after each ride for what my opinion of the ride is from 1-5 stars, 5 being best obviously. Day 1 (Wednesday 4/11 - Wonderworks) We left around noon to Pigeon Forge and arrived around 5pm. We stayed at a Holiday Inn Express which was half under construction which was kinda annoying but we lived through it as it was only one night. The first night we went down to Wonderworks which was actually quite a good place as it had a lot of cool things you could do such as some free arcade type games and some good learning opportunities. The highlight of it was going through the rope course, my daughter got scared when we were at the second level, and honestly I was kinda scared myself lol. It ended with a laser tag game which was included with admission and although I haven't done laser tag in over 20 years I was able to get second place out of everyone that played, so I guess that's something to brag about. After this we headed next door to the Hard Rock Cafe and ate a very good bacon cheeseburger and headed back to the hotel for the night since it was pretty late. Day 2 (Thursday 4/12 - Dollywood) We left early in the morning from the hotel after eating breakfast and headed to Dollywood. We actually went to Patriot Park and took the trolley over which was a great idea as it was only $.50 per person and took you straight to the entrance for Dollywood, good way to avoid paying a $9 parking fee! I got my tickets from the self-service kiosk at the front entrance which was quite convenient although it was quite expensive which I knew would be the case going in, maybe next year will invest in a season pass and go more than once in a year especially with how I've heard how their Christmas celebration is. We ate at Lumber Jack's Pizza which was meh, it wasn't terrible but it wasn't that great either. With that said, here is my opinion on all the rides I rode, to forego any questions about wait time, they were all walk-on, it was pretty amazing. Blazing Fury - It was a fun little ride with a really good theme. ** Daredevil Falls - It was the best log flume I've ever been, although that doesn't really say much as I haven't been on too many. Again the theme on the ride was pretty good, not as the most complex theme but it at least did some stuff to add to the ride. ** Dizzy Disk - This was a pretty boring ride, I was hoping for something similar to Surf Dog at Kings Island but was pretty disappointed. * FireChaser Express - This was my absolute favorite ride at Dollywood. What a fun ride! All I've read about at Dollywood for the most part has been Lightning Rod, but I feel this ride was better than Lightning Rod. The theme and thrills of the ride really made me enjoy this ride. They combine all my favorite things of a ride: Good theme, multi-launch, backwards elements, and speed ***** Lemon Twist - So this ride... ugh, I felt sick after riding it, maybe it's just my old age but I guess I can't handle these fast spinning rides anymore. * Lightning Rod - Very fun ride! I love the intensity of the ride as it was just non-stop action from the beginning. The only two issues I had with the ride was the restrain system as I barely fit on the ride which I didn't have that issue with any other rides at the park and I felt the theme of the ride was very lacking with the exception of the queue line which even that wasn't overwhelming. **** Lumberjack Lifts - This was a pretty interesting attraction but was something different which was pretty cool. ** Mystery Mine - Oh... my... God... when I got on this ride I had no idea what I was getting myself in for as I hadn't heard anything about this ride. What an awesome fun ride that had a fantastic theme and some super intensity to it. Can't wait to ride it again! ***** Tennessee Tornado - This was a little bit fun of a ride but way too short. ** Thunderhead - This was quite an intense wooden roller coaster and was enjoyable. *** Wild Eagle- I think I had too high of expectations going on this ride, I was expecting something similar to GateKeeper and I think that ruined it for me. It was still a pretty fun ride but nothing I would consider Earth shattering. Day 3-4 (Friday 4/13 - Saturday 4/14 - Carowinds) So I was looking quite forward to going to Carowinds this year as last year I went during around the same time period and it was completely dead and we were able to ride almost all the rides. This year... not so much, sooo many rides were closed it was ridiculous. There was also quite a few schools visiting this day which made the park very busy with minimal rides so of course the bigger rides all had big lines. Afterburn - Didn't get to ride this ride last year as my daughter wasn't tall enough. This was a pretty cool ride and I enjoyed it very much. *** Carolina Cyclone - Was closed on Friday and on Saturday it was always a way too long line to wait for Carolina Goldrush- Was closed on Friday and on Saturday it was always a way too long line to wait for Fury 325 - What an awesome ride! As stated earlier my daughter wasn't tall enough to ride this ride last year so it was good to finally get to ride it. I thought the ride was very enjoyable and I can't wait to get back to ride it again! **** Hurler - Was open on Friday but everyone always had a very long wait. We rode it on Saturday and it was a good time riding it even though it's not the biggest or best coaster. ** Intimidator - Always had a long line on Friday & Saturday so we didn't ride it, will definitely get on it next year. Nighthawk - Was closed on Friday and on Saturday it was always a way too long line to wait for Ricochet - Good small ride, I enjoyed it more than most wild mouse rides as it doesn't hurt you too much. I always get very freaked out about these rides but it's definitely fun. ** Flying Cobras - Was closed on Friday and on Saturday it was always a way too long line to wait for Vortex - Line was too long on Friday & Saturday to wait for it Woodstock Express - Typical kiddie coaster but definitely a fun little ride. ** Carolina Skytower - I always like going on this ride as it is a nice change of pace for the day. ** Plants vs. Zombies - This is always a welcome ride for my daughter, I think we did this ride the most of any ride except for maybe Fury 325. I wish we had something like this at Kings Island. ***

  12. There's a park near home where I like to go walk and play Pokémon Go. Last visit, we went for a hike through the woods, and saw that a fair number of trees had been cut down to be removed. I can safely say that park isn't getting a roller coaster next year either. As long as there are no actual signs (like the ones on the fence in Rivertown when the park opened in 2016) I'm finding it extremely hard to see any of these things that happen every year (replacing or installing things like sewage or drainage pipes, cutting down trees, cleaning up an area where something has been removed) as being "signs" of anything other than typical park maintenance. Edit: the Giga crane games have been in the park since at least 2016. It wasn't a sign about the construction that eventually led to Mystic Timbers, nor is it a sign now.

  13. Maybe a little off subject, but 3 years ago My wife and I planned a trip to Kings Island for July in March.. I hadn't been in about 4 years and being 6ft5 worried of not being able to fit oh and also about 315#s . So from March to July I started eating between 1000 and 1300 calories a day, most of that being in form of protein. And switched to diet soda. in them few months I lost 95#'s... Goes quick if you calorie count. Now I am at 260 gaining 40 over winter, but am back on the same deal as of 2 weeks ago, except at Kings Island I will enjoy my 2 meals, but no candy or stuff like that

  15. As the park just opened, I think all of us should take a step back and wait before we say it is or isn't something. As far as we know we may never get a Giga. I've been part of the problem of this Giga entitlement thing. I think we all need to wait for a little more evidence before we make any claims as to why any work is being done. None of us are equipped to say what they're doing. We're just average guests who take special interest.

  16. It still is....this new property is behind Buffalo Winds and Rings. Most of the KI Resort Site is still left open and in despair.

  17. Good. That empty site was an eyesore. It's nice to see more lodging options become available. CP pushes themselves as a multi-day resort, and KI looks to be heading that direction.

  18. I agree, at the time to be honest I never thought of someone being injured, i would just thought worst case my phone would fall and I'd lose it, but after this Saturday having someone's sunglasses fly back and smack me in the arm and the mark they left, yeah I could only imagine a cell phone coming back and smacking someone in the face could be brutal So stupid and boneheaded maybe was the right choice of words

  22. The most I have stepped at Kings Island in one day is about 26,000 steps, and this was on a day where I worked a Swing shift and visited as a guest before and after. On one of my test rides on Vortex last year I was checking my FitBit Charge 2 throughout the ride to see what my heart rate was at various points of the ride, and I found it actually counting steps too! So according to my FitBit, riding Vortex apparently counts as walking or running.

  23. ^ LOL, I will fix that! (Fantasizes Michigan's Adventure with a B&M Giga, B&M Dive Coaster, B&M Wing Coaster, RMC'd Wildcat, GCI Wooden Coaster, Intamin Blitz Coaster, B&M Family Inverted Coaster, Vekoma Mine Train, Intamin Strata Coaster, as well as a huge waterpark expansion with multiple waterslides including water coasters and also a bunch of new flat rides and theming that is as good as Disney World) MWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA I MADE MICHIGAN'S ADVENTURE THE BEST PARK IN DA WORLD!!! (Because I forgot to upgrade Hotels & Infastructure, Michigan's Adventure suffers the same fate as Geauga Lake and dies from over-expansion and all that stuff I listed above gets sent to other Cedar Fair Parks instead) Oh...uhh...oops... WA WA WA!

  25. Your right, but the 40 I gained was over this past winter and the original weight I lost was 3 years ago... I say to each his own, but going at it hard and seeing fast results for me personally is a big motivator.. this past winter was just kinda like not caring plus being laid off from Construction and sitting around and being bored, so I lived it up.. Or I ate it up I should say And if you have ever watched 600# life, they are over 600 and he puts em on a 1000 calorie a day diet.. In the end what matters is that you lose the weight... if you can change your eating habit just enough to consistently lose 1 pound a week for a long time, that's great, but for me it takes a drastic change or it doesn't work And my whole point of responding on this was, Kings Island for me at least was the biggest motivator of all. It worked the first time and will this time, I need something to look forward to non stop or i get bored out my mind.. So be super healthy when not at the park and then enjoy yourself at the park

  26. When the park I work at gets inspected by the dept. of agriculture they use orange marking tape to mark off stuff that needs attention (loose bolts, hazards, etc.) I believe that's the case here. I even seen some orange ribbons on Banshee supports.

  31. True we don’t need another sinking coaster like Vortex or Magnum but you hit bedrock sooner on a hill. Of course that is dependent on the geology. See the cuts on an Interstate highway.

  32. Working Games in 04 there were three things of note. I busted a group passing fake bills. That was fun had to do an actual police report and everything. I watched two groups get into a fight. Pretty sure I saw one group flash a gang sign at the other and it was a rival. started with water bottles getting thrown and went into a full on brawl. I will never forget an old guy coming out of no where and grabbing two of the kids involved and holding them up screaming at them. I just sat back and enjoyed it. Security was over to get them fairly quick. Some random tween girl thought it would be funny to throw a softball at my face at one ball milk can. I think it is a quarter game now right by Racer. I had her and her two friends thrown out with a quickness while they pleaded with me. I have no remorse your actions have punishments.

  33. Walking around the park over the weekend without having the meal plan for the first time in years was wonderful. I would see everyone wasting time in long lines for food and trying to hit food first thing so they could get a second meal in. On Friday as we walked in the park I couldn't help but laugh at everyone already lining up first thing for their meal. I am there to ride and it made me realize I spent too much time in previous years worrying about meals and the lines. Also because the quality was so bad last year and I am now finally on track eating right ( 30 pounds lost since the end of Jan.) I couldn't help but realize just how unhealthy everything was. I was walking all day but not nearly enough to work off one of the meals. For everyone that has the meal plan I hope the quality is much better for you this year.

  34. I personally find pedometers very inaccurate for distance. I have a Mio and my wife a Fitbit. We can take the same walk and have very different results. By as much as 30% or so. Have also tested them by runng a GPS app at the same time. Although to do that at the park you will need to carry a powerbank to charge up the phone as GPS really sucks the juice.

  35. I still don’t get this. If designed to the terrain correctly it would need much shorter support structures. For example if the station is at a high elevation the supports for the first drop would not need to be a full 300+ feet. If the next hill followed the terrain of the next natural hill the supports would not need to be as tall on flat ground as well.

  36. King Cobra seems to always have two things offered up as excuses for its demise: 1) Spare parts became harder to find... or 2) The steel was in "bad shape..." ...yet, similar models operated well after, one of them even surviving relocation and still operating overseas. King Cobra itself was put up for sale. I wonder what the actual reason was for its removal. Does anyone know for certain?

  44. Has anyone seen said bulldozers? The fence that's there...hmmm maybe it's there to keep people out of an area that they are not staffing, nor do not need people in. There have been many trees removed throughout the park over the past few years due to this...but some folks will believe it's only in that area because that's where they want a giga to go. There's a difference between reality and theories. If someone believes something so much, any little thing that changes can support a theory.

  45. What big open area? The only open area is the former dig site, as chugh43 said. The trees that the link says are being removed are pretty randomly spread around and are likely for non construction reasons related to their health. Trees have been being removed around the park in that way for years. As for the 'construction' fence, it is the same design the park recently put up around part of The Racer, Firehawk's exit, and the path leading to the picnic grove. Therefore, not really a construction fence. The way I see it there is absolutely no construction for 2019 at the moment.

  46. Good lord....trees likely have been removed due to decay and the emerald ash borer.....that "big clearing" behind the red maintenance barns are where the dino dig site was.
