  1. It's surprisingly not bad for a Saturday. We were 1st in line for one of the rarer attractions. @King Ding Dongmust not be here. LOL

  6. A chance of thunderstorms is actually excellent weather for the park. It keeps crowds away, and even with losing time to thunderstorm shutdowns, you can get more rides in on those days than you can on a day with no chance of rain. It's extremely rare for a chance of thunderstorms to turn into a total washout. Just go get something to eat when the storms approach and enjoy the dead park after they pass.

  7. Earlier this week I saw a post on Facebook about Vortex’s little hiccup last Saturday and one of the comments went along the lines of “They’re getting everyone off because somebody fell out...”

  8. Saw this guy at Cedar Point. Quickly knew Malem would be the only one wearing a KIC t-shirt and shorts on a cold Sandusky day. Great meeting you! I’ll be posting a review in the Steel Vengeance thread in the upcoming days.

  9. There was an incident at Camden Park today in which an employee was pinned under the Slingshot coaster. The employee was rescued and flown to a local hospital. http://www.wsaz.com/content/news/US-60-shut-down-in-both-directions-in-front-of-Camden-Park-482459721.html

  10. I don't have any inside information on this, but I think it stems from the problem of trying to keep guests from hopping off the train in the dark and heading off into the woods. It is a problem sometimes during the the day, imagine how hard it would be to prevent and then find anyone who did it at night? With the differences in how Haunt crowds behave, it is possible it could end up taking several guards' and officers' time each night rounding up and ousting a few trouble makers.

  13. 'Does a gold pass get you in for free?" Nooo... you just spent $137 on a brand new pass just to get charged admission everytime. --------- I was directing guests to exit to the right this past Sunday due to the storm. Many guests just don't understand you have to go ALL the way to the right. So many were trying to cut through open admissions turnstiles and closed ones too! You should have heard my voice when redirecting. I sounded like a security guard haha. [emoji4] One of them in particular did not like being directed to the right by me. And so. She shouted... "COOOOOOOOOLLLL" and proceeded to leave. Oh the darndest things.

  14. However, they've continued the trend of slathering them in BBQ sauce rather than depending on the more subtle flavoring of slow-smoking. On the other hand, they gave about twice as much meat as last time I got the tri-tips.

  17. May 4, 2018. I originally planned to pick up an Open shift for work and then ride as a guest after work, but someone needed her Swing covered that day. Since my dad would not let me stay for the fireworks either way, I decided to cover my crewmate's Swing, as my double the next day would allow me to see the fireworks nonetheless. Since the Swing shift does not start until noon, I had some time to ride some rides as a guest before work! I entered the park at 9:50 and headed left to catch some ERT rides on a certain Arrow coaster that was finally being included in the morning ERT... I ALMOST got my own train on my first Bat flight of the season...but several other people arrived as the train arrived. Either way, it was nice and quiet aside from Mary Poppins' "Spoonful of Sugar" playing on the FunTV, which was an unexpected surprise. I rode The Bat twice - once in the front and once in the back. I love the pop of airtime one gets coming off the turn into the second drop when riding in the back! On my second ride, I rode with a spider web next to me, which made for some fairly appropriate theming. The web's eight-legged owner was nowhere to be seen, so it missed out on the fun. I decided to take a quick spin on Banshee, as I had a couple of friends on the crew and I wanted to see if any of them were there. So after shoving Toothless and my fanny pack into a $2 locker, I headed into line for my first Banshee ride of the season. I didn't find the friend for whom I originally searched, but I did happen to find Kat! So we said hi as I waited for the back row seat which I had chosen. Yes, chosen, as there was less than a station wait which made for no point in assigning seats! I rode back row, far right on the Blue train. The ride was very fun, but also very rattling. But it was still very fun. I love getting pulled over the first hill, and it's quite intense! I retrieved my locker contents and headed to Adventure Express' empty station. Like The Bat, I would have had my own train had several more guests not shown up right as the train arrived, but that didn't matter since I had a nice front seat adventure on my first Express ride of the season! It was about 10:45, so I headed straight down to Coney Mall's east end. I need to try Coney BBQ sometime! As soon as I entered Coney Mall, I smelled it. YUM!! By now, I'm sure you know why I headed straight to here... ...not just because I of course craved some morning spins aboard Vortex, but also to finally accomplish something I had originally intended to do on last year's Closing Day HAD IT NOT BEEN SO COLD. It took three rides on Vortex today to get there at last. After enjoying two fun, intense, airtime-filled back seat rides, I hopped aboard the front... ...for a ride that I waited five long months for. At long last, I boarded Vortex for the 500th time at 11:12 a.m. (as seen on the Snapchat filter )! This is the first time I have taken a landmark ride in the morning. And in case you're wondering...I rode in the same seat in which I took my 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, and first test rides of 2017 and 2018! Yes, I was once again on Train #1!!!! This is my visual proof that I rode Train #1; I took it right as I got off. Don't worry, the lady in the foreground is not looking at me. My 500th ride, dare I say it, was GREAT! Surprise surprise. But seriously, it was great! It was amazing getting to experience my first six inversions for the 500th time. Here's to another 500 more!! And this also means I have now gone upside down on Vortex over 3000 times!! While my train sat on the brake run awaiting its station arrival, I thought about the rides I had just experienced this morning. Then I thought this thought that some would think crazy: "Banshee rattled me more than this!" But it was true! Aside from the wacky transitions and slight shuffling typical of an Arrow, the three rides I just had on Vortex were actually smoother than the extremely rattling ride I had earlier on Banshee (granted I rode in an outside seat on the Blue train which isn't the smoothest, but still!). Feel free to not believe me, but I will stand by the experience I just had of a 31-year-old Arrow looper giving a smoother ride than a 4-year-old B&M invert. Banshee needs to step up her game because something's up. It's so crazy to think!! I wanted to cool off with a ride on Flume so I could make it an all-Arrow ride day (aside from my ride on Banshee), but instead I had embarked on a futile quest to obtain the ride photo of my 500th ride. Apparently Vortex's kiosk wasn't working of all times, and even the people at Mystic Timbers' photo station couldn't pull it up. Oh well. At least I have the memories! It was just after 11:30, so I didn't have time to ride Flume and still get back to Vortex in uniform by 11:45. Even though I didn't get to cool off in the way I originally planned, I would get to cool off later when it began pouring mid-afternoon! It was raining hard enough for Vortex to close for weather, so I got to clean the train as well as obtain some aesthetic shots. I'll post only a few as I don't want to spoil it all. Dare I say that some are Photo-Contest-worthy! Overall, May 4 was a good day! For clarification I will consider writing trip reports for only the days that include guest visits, as writing reports for every day would be too much. I may include some details from neighboring work days though, or at least give brief entries about them in the random discussion thread. +The Bat: 2 Total: 102 +Banshee: 1 Total: 26 +Adventure Express: 1 Total: 56 +Vortex: 3 YTD: 7 Total: 500

  18. Had an amazing interaction with an associate on Friday (5/11) at the park. It was extremely warm, @pianoman, @Magenta Lizard and I were going to do water rides. I brought a bag of extra clothes for after water rides. Unfortunately, I needed a locker. I attempted to purchase an all day locker at the front of the park but each kiosk wouldn’t read my card (I don’t carry cash). After working with the associate near the lockers, the associate got his supervisor, Tanner. Tanner asked me what was going on, so I demonstrated and he attempted to get my card to work. Unfortunately, Tanner couldn’t get it to work. Tanner, however saw that I just wanted my locker and to move on. Tanner ended up getting me a locker for free. I totally didn’t expect that, but it was much appreciated. So great job Tanner and thank you! I did go to guest services and gave him major props.

  23. I usually aim for weekdays that have the highest predicted chances of rain each week, and it is very rare that storms last very long, and almost never has the park closed early because the storms are expected to last past the scheduled closing. I've visited a couple times a week when the park is open over the past few years, and there have only been a couple times where storms were persistent or severe enough to send me home. You can cancel your plans if you want to, but you may find that the light crowds are very much worth the need to take shelter for an hour or so during the day. Usually I take it as a much needed break from walking, because I stand in lines so little during the day on rainy days (most things are walk-ons). And, as long as there isn't lightning in the area, most rides still run in the rain. If the temperature is warm enough, it can be quite fun for the entire "dry" side of the park to become water rides. Just grab a raincoat or poncho and enjoy the day!

  28. I think they're just testing the site. I'm not seeing any changes from last year, and the menus at the top contain all of the same things found there on the main website, including things that make no sense on the Haunt website like Education Days. It looks like just a CSS skin plus three extra pages (home page linked above plus the attractions page and the calendar). Definitely a test.

  29. The store is now updated so that the price is inclusive of shipping and all fees. The only thing that's not included is sales tax if it's being shipped to an Ohio address. The shipping discount for ordering multiple items is now passed along in the form of a Multiple Item Discount. Thanks for the feedback, and sorry about any confusion.

  30. We were told last Sunday that my wife, who is 6 months pregnant, that she couldn't bring her tiny little bluetooth speaker into the park. They literally made her walk all the way back to her car. She keeps it in her purse for out 2 year old and forgot to take it out. But we went to Guest Services and complained. I'm pretty sure there is nothing in the policies about it. Kind of on the same lines as the camera, except the speaker cant record anything. lol On edit: Obviously since she is pregnant, she can't ride any rides, so its not like there be an issue with it falling off of her on a ride.

  33. Technically, my house is 1.5 miles from Kings Island. I can see it from my bedroom window, watch the fireworks every night in the summer, and hang out on my back deck while listening to the peaceful noises of trains swooping down the roller coaster track accompanied by the sound of screaming - and sometimes, depending on the wind, ride operator spieling can be heard. Unfortunately, due to my position across the Little Miami River, it still takes about 10-15 minutes to get to Kings Island. It is very strange to see how close it yes, yet road-wise, it is about 5.5 miles. Always have found that interesting!

We wanted to offer a few color options for those who prefer lighter colors over darker colors. The KIC online store is now open for your orders. 42. ^ We're not making money off these, but we do need to cover expenses - including the fees charged by PayPal. The ~3% fee was added to all transactions to offset said fees charged to us. EDIT: Though we were trying to be transparent, the fee ended up causing confusion and frustration. Sorry about that. We updated the pricing to be all-inclusive.

  43. The security guard appeared to not like that he specifically had been filmed by the guy. I had a similar thing where an employee tried to tell me I couldn't take pictures of something at Winterfest, that seemed more of an attempt to make sure I didn't take pictures of him (not a security guard in my case), even though I didn't want him in the picture either so... I went ahead and finished taking my pic and he got out of my way. I figured whatever reason he had for wanting to avoid being photographed, he probably didn't want his supervisors or security involved, so he just left me alone at that point. I know it isn't against park rules to take pictures when you aren't on rides (or in restrooms/changing rooms, obviously). I would personally have taken the OP video to guest services and asked for clarification of the rules on photography, and nipped that little power-trip in the bud by bringing the attention of his superiors, if that's what it was. It's what it looked like. By entering the park, we are agreeing to the possibility of being filmed or photographed for park promotion purposes (its on the back of every ticket and in our pass agreements), so it is a little silly for any employee to think they can or should bully people out of photographing or recording.

  45. They never got rid of Boomerang Bay. Just changed the name due to licensing reasons. It was part of Paramount's branding for the movie Crocodile Dundee. Trying to find old content of mine, eh? Crocodile Dundee's Boomerang Bay was the licensed name by Paramount Parks that branded the waterpark in an Australian overlay of the names and scenery. Boomerang Bay itself was a good name (from my recollection of the branding) by dropping the Paramount property of Crocodile Dundee for the Cedar Fair park as I do not believe that Boomerang Bay was a copyrighted property that was a mandated change. (I could be wrong I am going off of information I had from years ago the topic really hasn't came up that often) The point of the post is that Boomerang Bay was removed, not in terms of the waterpark slides and attractions, with exception to one, but the name branding and scenery theming. It was the intricate and immersive theming of the gift shop, and the various small nods to Australian wildlife on small cut outs or fence paintings that were cast aside for the now Soak City decor. One attraction by technicality did bite the dust, the original Crocodile Run aka Splash River. Splash River runs virtually the same course with diversions in the enterance and exits being on opposite sides of the river and the new zero depth entry that demolished one of the most secluded parts of the river. The point of the post was that I think that the Boomerang Bay waterpark branding being removed was a mistake as it had character that was beyond the generic tropical theming found at most waterparks.
