  2. If those kids were applying and taking said jobs, then they wouldn't need to hire international workers. The truth is, that staffing has been such an issue in the past 2-3 years that this is needed. Also, KI is getting dorms built. They will be located behind Timberwolf and GWL.

  3. Overheard this one yesterday. Woman (to her husband): “I don’t know if you remember, but that [points to WindSeeker] used to be where Banshee is now.” Huh?

  4. @King Ding Dong It's not photoshopped. WindSeeker is opened too.

  6. Some other info from the Q&A: Kings Island (maybe Cedar Fair as a whole?) is exploring the idea of all-day locker access anywhere in the park, as well as season pass based locker availability. Attendance at Kings Island in 2017 was the highest since 1998. Mystic Timbers' shed will not receive any changes in the next year or two, but updates in the long term future are possible. Flight of Fear and Shake, Rattle, and Roll will operate during Winterfest. Painting coasters is expensive and can easily hit six figures in cost. The Tomb Raider/Crypt building is still being considered for how it can be used for something during the regular season. There are no plans in the next 4-5 years to create a new section of the park. There is plenty of land though, which may be used for new rides.

  7. This is good news, show's KI is working on the staffing issues, so they could be open during the last 2 weeks in August. I haven't heard anything about the school bill.

  8. Yeah, they need to be staffed more than June-August. The time before and after those months (and even during for certain rides/departments) is a staffing nightmare. Also just in general seasonal jobs have a hard time because people want year round employment when they can. Also working over 40 hours a week without overtime can be an issue for a lot of people.

  17. Still don’t beleive you. Hold up today’s newspaper in front of it. If by some major miracle this is true, it is only becuase I am not there and helping my son study for finals. I bet WindSeeker is running full blast as well.

  18. I'd assume it's not posted because it's really inconsistent. Generally places on international street stay open until closing, but even they will close their doors early if there is a line... So that they're actually done by park closing. Likewise, on slower days, some locations won't be open at all.. I'm looking at you Hank's burrito shack. I realize it would be unreasonable for the dining places to have live wait times in the app like the rides... But it does seem like Kings Island could pretty easily use the app to mark which locations were open and which we're currently closed... So if one closed early (most locations), or opened late (panda express) they would show as closed in the app. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. I like options B & C the best. The helix at the start is the only part of the ride I really don't enjoy much. The forces on it are pretty extreme for an element that isn't that thrilling and goes on for too long. Would be happy with a quick overbanked turn into a small dip that comes back up to the current drop. I do agree as well with changing the theming to fit in better with the surrounding area, either make it fit better with Coney Mall or Rivertown. Coney Mall could be an easier fit especially with the 50s type feel of the diner and SR&R next to it. Lends itself better to cars than Rivertown.

  20. I concur with the no plans for a new section of park. There are lots of areas where they can infill new rides and attractions.

  21. From my understanding, Planet Snoopy will be totally closed off this year during Haunt. It's supposedly so they can get that area ready for Winterfest while Haunt is still going on. Also, I think this year will be a very interesting year for Haunt. With last year being the first year of Haunt followed almost immediately by Winterfest, I think we will see a little more of a different layout with Haunt. For example, I think we won't see the train operate during Haunt in addition to Planet Snoopy being closed off. I think they will use that time to better prepare certain attractions/ares for Winterfest. Thoughts?

  22. @Tera Ryzing, you obviously need a bit of a history lesson on why US parks avoid Intamin. http://rec.roller-coaster.narkive.com/wnY2sKrx/bizarre-quote-from-sandor-kernacs-of-intamin-on-the-sros-accident http://www.thebatavian.com/howard-owens/final-sheriffs-office-report-death-dariens-ride-steel-contains-new-details/27870 Rewind a bit to 2011. Darien Lake's Ride of Steel ejected a rider that had a prosthetic leg. Obviously, there was neglect from the ride operators' point of view, but Intamin also released a statement regarding the incident. Sandor Kernacs, then Intamin's US president, said that "accidents can't be avoided" and even went further to ask "the question is, what number is acceptable?" That's a big red flag for any park. It suggests that Intamin goes about its innovations and pushing of the envelope without thinking about safety. Add to that all the incidents such as broken cables, redesigns, and more accidents thereafter, and US parks simply lost Intamin's trust. Intamin hasn't once redacted their statement and instead of trying to get back into the US market, they stick with their line of thought and are focused on overseas projects. Would I like to see Intamin make a comeback? Sure. They have some cool things in their ride designs. I certainly like a lot of the coasters from them that I've ridden. But, only with a new focus on safety in addition to whatever innovations they come up with. If CF goes with another Intamin, it hopefully means Intamin has turned that corner and I would be excited for what they bring to the table. Competition is a good thing in the industry. If not, well, they only have themselves to blame.

  23. I would prefer B&M due to the better reliability, since a ride is no fun if it's down every time you try to ride it (see @King Ding Dong's ongoing battle with WindSeeker), but I'll take the giga either way. After all, we're just begging for a giga, and beggars can't be choosers. That said, Cedar Fair's issues with Intamin are well-known, and their resulting lack of any recent projects with Intamin speaks volumes as to which manufacturer is more likely to be used for a KI giga.

  26. We ran into heavy traffic, probably a good 45 min delay unfortunately. We live in Kentucky and take 71/75 north into Cincinnati. I had Google maps on, it did not reroute us and also Waze. I was just hoping for some tips from someone that actually lives in the area. We still went to the park and enjoyed ERT time but just wish we could have gotten around that traffic.

  27. Too late for this trip, but I always take the 275 bypass. It's a little bit longer but to me anything is better than driving through Cincy.

  28. I think KI gets plenty of love from corporate: Two major coasters in three years and an extended Winterfest season. I'm pretty happy with that kind of love.

  29. I completely agree with your logic on this. I didn't know these statistics, but if these are accurate, I think this is very logical. Obviously we will continue to get coasters, but the frequency of these coasters may not be as high as other parks. It's all about money!

  30. I don't think Canada's Wonderland's attendance jumped a lot after they built Behemoth and Leviathan either, yet they are about to get what looks to be, a huge dive coaster. Don has mentioned on multiple occasions that KI will continue to build world class rides. Just hard to believe KI doesn't get more love from CF top management, considering it is one the top ranked amusement parks in the US.

  31. ^That's right! We had our pictures taken with REAL cameras with REAL pictures that we had to wait to be developed, then wait while those pictures and a little slip of paper that we had signed... in CURSIVE... which kids don't even know how to do anymore and aren't even taught in school anymore... were run though the machine to get LAMINATED! None of this digital-picture-not-even-being-on-the-pass-but-in-the-computer-instead mumbo jumbo!
