  1. Cedar Point and Holiday World had confidence in a water ride from Intamin at one point too. Anyone rode Shoot the Rapids or Pilgrim Plunge lately? I have confidence a broken clock will be right twice a day.

  2. ^starting an interaction in a calm and understanding attitude usually gets you farther than starting out adversarial and yelling. Flies and honey and all that. But even if one gets an answer they don't like, it's best to take it up later at guest services than to get in the face of a near-child (usually) who is just trying to do their job as they understand it.

  3. the most common question at Mystic: Is this a water ride? Can I put _____ in the truck? Is this the Son of Beast?

  4. @Tera Ryzing I'll be at Cedar Point tomorrow. I will let you know when the Intamin's are down. On second thought, I would have to get on my phone way too much, so, no thanks.

  5. If you have a season pass, and are flexible on the days/times you can go, you could always try to "risk" it on a day that looks potentially rainy. We went Wednesday night last week, rain was in the air, but the 2 main cells looked like they were going to pass one just north of KI, and other just south of KI. I figured it was going to rain a bit while we were there, but we weren't going to see any of the heavy rain, and it wasn't going to last more than an hour (assuming of course that the future radar was reasonably accurate, which is a big assumption). Not only did we avoid the big cells that was definitely in the area, we didn't get any rain at all on Wednesday at KI. Mystic Timbers was a walkon, with a couple of people marathoning it in the middle rows. My wife and son went to ride Diamondback sometime after 9:15 just after my son and I rode Mystic twice in a row, I told her the line looked short as we were walking back to Planet Snoopy and if she wanted to ride Diamondback twice (or more) with our son, I'd be good with the 2 youngest. They ended up riding Diamondback, Mystic and got to The Beast just a shade after 9:45 or whatever time they close down the line for fireworks and track clearing. She didn't want to wait that long, so they meet us back in Planet Snoopy for fireworks. If not for the fireworks, they could have been on Diamonback, Mystic and The Beast in under 30 minutes.

  6. Went to the 50's diner across Vortex over the weekend. Had the pig pen burger without hot dogs and I eneded up pulling the chicken tenders off but the burger was good and the onion rings were awesome. This place has the best food in the park. I do wish the inside was laid out a little differently though.

  7. Thanks- a quick update on that, it now feels about 50-60% better 2 days later, so it is recovering. I still don't wanna have to lift anything even slightly heavy with it though, at least for another day or two. I can still pick up light stuff though without much, if any, issue. Should back to 100% by the end of the week, by my estimates.

  8. We also start the day with a wristband. It lets us, our kids, and the ride ops know what they can ride. I always feel sorry for the kids who get off a ride crying (seen this several times at Woodstock Express) because their parents either tried to "sneak" them on, or were just completely oblivious to the height rule...or perhaps an upset kid and parent are actually correct. Perhaps they actually had been allowed to ride it before... Last fall was the first time my youngest was 54"...and right at the 54" mark. Since they can give wristbands at the ride itself, we got him measured at Diamondback. Last fall, he rode Diamondback on back-to-back trips....on his third time to the park after being 54", we do the exact same thing. He gets a wristband at the ride's entrance, and we proceed to get on the ride. We ride it once, then get back in line for a re-ride. They must have had a recent height-check issue just in that 5-10 minute period because the person at the ride gate, asked for his height and started to measure him, but saw his wristband and said "go ahead". After we got on the ride, the ride operator made him get off and get measured, while acknowledging that he had the wristband. He took a few seconds to do this because this stick seemed to be less favorable to my son's height than the stick out front. Feet together, stand up straight, back to the pole. I thought he wasn't going to let him ride. I had warned my son prior to going each subsequent trip that he might measure a little differently each time (either they have a measuring stick which is slightly different, or the height station is different than the ride entrance, or the ride greeter won't give a wristband for exactly 54", etc.) And I know ride operators have discretion to check and refuse rides regardless of wristband color worn...but that would have been pretty hard news to a 9-yr-old who legitimately rode what was becoming one of his favorite rides just 5 minutes earlier. The ride operator did look at me, which I took the opportunity to state that we received the wristband from the ride entrance, and this would be our second ride of the day. No reason to yell or make a big deal about it. I understand being upset or feeling like you (or your kid) is being treated "unfairly". However, it just usually makes those types of situations worse. The ride operator did deem him exactly 54" and we rode again. Still a toss-up between this and Banshee as his favorite rides. :-)

  9. This is exactly what I do; get my kid measured first thing, then there's no issue as to what he rides. He's borderline 54" as of right now and we are heading to Cedar Point this Wednesday. I told him not to walk in with the expectation that he will be measured at 54". If he his, then great. If not, there are still a ton of rides to do and 5 new coasters he can ride.

  10. Saturday I was in line for Race For Your Life Charlie Brown and I lightly bumped this small girl on her head with my elbow. I immediately apologized and she said to me "It's not your fault it's my brother. He takes up all the room!"

  12. I have three young children. We get wrist bands when we go. It’s really a simple, obvious thing to do. Often times the Mr and I will just switch duties with one in Planet Snoopy the other on the bigger rides or sitting in Reds pretending to ride rides for a few minutes of precious golden silence. Common sense and a desire to keep my children safe is key. Why chance harming who should be the most precious things in your life. I have seen people scream at ride ops for it. I have seen people screaming in guest services. It’s not worth getting that bent out of shape over someone doing their job. I know it’s expensive and trying to make the most of a visit if you can only go once a season can be difficult, but think parents put themselves before their children to have a good time not realizing it could injure a child.

  14. This is why you follow the rules as a guest. Also, this is why it shouldn’t be play time on the mic as an operator. You have a responsibility to prevent things like this and you can’t have everyone in the station tuning you out. http://m.nbc12.com/story/38419337/woman-injured-by-flying-cell-phone-on-roller-coaster

  16. My guess is your going to miss it by a few weeks. The construction updates make it look like at a minimum two or three weeks before testing can even start. I think opening is about two or three months away.

  17. Here's a trip report of a trip I did last year. This includes some stops for food and shows, including walking from Bat to the SC smokehouse. I didn't walk all that fast either, at least, compared to malem and stashua123 (except for riding Beast, AE and Banshee all at night).

  19. I haven't eaten at Juke Box Diner in a long time! (and yet I work across from there, lol) I never got to try the Pig Pen burger but I'm glad to hear it was really good! Also, I hope everyone who visited yesterday fared well in the heat. My crewmates and I survived , WindSeeker was unfazed by the heat, and Vortex did fairly well outside of a little hiccup that closed it for a couple hours. I'm heading back out into the heat today, as I work a close! (and I work all day tomorrow) Hooray for working outside -- sunscreen, water and shade (and AC!) are my very best friends right now.

  21. Hope your shoulder feels better! I'm glad you enjoyed your flight on WindSeeker. The Beast has been doing that pretty often as of late (stopping trains to retrieve a cell phone). I rode The Beast last Wednesday and my train got stopped, and I also saw a train stopped during my post-swing-shift ride on Vortex today, all for someone having their phone out. I like how they are doing that, though!

  22. Well said. A few years ago, I convinced my mom to buy a ~$40 ticket to come to the park with me, even though she can't or won't ride a lot of stuff. Once there, I took her to see the 3:00 (first) show of Cirque Imagine that day. She was absolutely blown away by it and declared that it was worth the $40 admission ticket by itself—which I had been trying to convince her for weeks. She insisted on going back to the 5:00 show to see it again.

  23. I saw this show when I was at the park yesterday. Wow, it was awesome. I loved the stunts, I thought the Jokes were funny (a bit immature but still funny), but my favorite part of the show was probably the laser scene. I thought that looked incredible and it was epic. 10/10 would watch again.

  25. A guest got stopped at MT today for having a bag. When told he had to get a locker, he asked if he could just put it in the truck at the entrance. I have never heard that, but thought it was quite clever to think of and ask.

  27. I made this idea for the empty plot of land between AE and FOF. This new area is an Xbase expansion. This would include a new grab and go restaurant, a seating area (like what Banshee's plaza has), the new Power Force giga coaster, a new Xbase entrance where the latter game is, and new theming on the ground. The old FOF picture area would be converted into restrooms.

  29. ^And it is parents like that why some parks or specific rides will not allow a too short person in line with their family. Because of a parent's lack of being a responsible adult now means that rule abiding families have to either split up and one stays behind while the others go in line or they just don't ride. Plus it should be a requirement that anyone shorter than 54" should be required to have a height wrist band so that ride-ops have an easier time assessing this.

  30. I worked on Tomb Raider it's first couple of years and we saw it at all. My favorite instance was a parent who told the greeter that their child was not riding. The kid who was very obviously too short made it to the ride and sat down. We noticed that there were legs in this seat that were not even long enough to bend over the seat and we saw 2 little legs sticking straight out. We up bared and checked him only to see what we had suspected. He was waaaaay too short. Then we had his father standing there making a scene on the ride screaming that there were lots of other kids he saw getting on that were also too short and that we were just singling them out. So we opened up all 77 seats and walked up and down every row with a height stick. His kid was the only one that was too short to ride. Finally he gave in and both him and his child walked out of the ride.

  31. The problem with the price for admission for people who don`t ride rides is this. They could probably ride some rides like the Eiffel Tower, Carousel, and train. Do you give them a wristband that says no rides, and apply it across the board? It would just add yet another thing that ride operators have to check for.

  32. I disagree with one part of your statement. An adult should never yell at a worker simply because they are upset at something so minor in the grand scheme of things. An adult should act like an adult, especially with an impressionable child right beside them.

  34. Not that this matters.... I live 5 miles away, and hear the fireworks nightly. They let me know that I'm up past my bed time. Being old sucks.

  35. For me, the most disturbing part of the story is that the offending rider simply walked away without identifying himself to the victim or the park. To injure someone and then not take responsibility is cowardice and wrong. Hopefully he's found and cited for his failure to follow the ride's safety instructions.

  36. I check my zippers multiple times before a ride. I check them in line, when I'm next in line, when I sit down, and often again on the lift hill. If your zipper is not zipped, that's purely your own fault for not checking to be sure.

  37. Yes! Two days ago, we had flat tires on our jogging stroller and noticed it after we had gotten in the park. I went straight to the Family Care Center and asked the always-awesome staff there if they had an air pump. They always seem to have everything for families like us [emoji23]. They didn’t but called maintenance and the sweetest boy came to the rescue. Pumped both tires up and even did so while I took my daughter inside to change her and wash her hands. He was amazing as were the ladies in the center. I was so impressed! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  38. ASA opens 5 new rides this season, mostly on the dry side. Here is an interview with Pat and Dan. I really miss Pat in Indiana. She always had the best park commercials! http://abc3340.com/station/talk-of-alabama/talk-of-alabama-61318-splash-adventure Looking at this thread they did exactly what some were asking for, a few classic rides: Scrambler and a Tilt-A-Whirl. http://www.alabamasplash.com/attractions/

  39. On the contrary, I love our current entrance. As you approach you see hints of rides sticking out above, giving clues about what is to come, but when you walk through you are suddenly bathed in the majestic splendor of International Street, with the Eiffel Tower straight ahead. It's as if you pass from one world to another on entering the park. It's a wonderful first impression that reminds me of the Magic Kingdom entrance as you pass under the train station. I would be sad to see it replaced with a coaster.

  40. I always thought being the greeter would be the most hot, boring thing you could do as a rides kid.

  41. I don’t think so. I think people are well aware that there are height limits. One thing I’ve seen has been a kid being measured and rejected after the kid had ridden earlier in the season or even in that day. I think that’s fair enough grounds for a parent being upset and/or annoyed. A former area supervisor (that you know too) has told the story several times about an upset family whose kids were rejected from riding FOF because they were too short. The kicker? They had ridden earlier that day. The final blow? They had purchased the photo to prove that they had ridden. He was left with nothing to say except that the ride ops hadn’t done their jobs earlier in the day. Can you honestly tell me that in the day and age of understaffing and far too many associates that are more concerned with saying “funny” things on the microphone than doing their jobs that this doesn’t happen far, far more often?
    1 point
  42. I think it rude for a parent to not get the wristband. That is the first place I go with mine. Then we are good the rest of the day. Not that hard and I am not holding up a line. Common curticy.
    1 point
  43. Does the park have a kids admission. I have seen it where at the front gate the measure tall enough to have to pay for the adult mission and then when they go to ride they measure smaller than they did at the gate. Then as a parent I would be upset at front gate employees and not the ride ops.

  47. While I'm not sure I remember If I voted in this poll or not; If I could do it again, I would say bring in a Floorless as well. Maybe they could incorporate some twists from Dominator at Kings Dominion when they do add one. However, It's probably just me and you that think this way about a Floorless. The majority vote would go to the Giga vote.
