  1. The sad thing was... it did have a lot of those features, they were just horribly executed and later "removed." • The "stair rumble" never quite got the point across. The section of the ride that is "a stairway" was so brief and so lightly themed, that you hardly have any idea that it's supposed to reflect descending down the subway stairs like in the film. When the "rumble" worked, it was simply just a slight vibration down that particular, small, spot of track. If you had never seen the movie or the ride's conceptual promo video, you'd probably just assume that section of track was "rough." It never translated well. • As for the "drifting cars," the infrastructure was there, but the effect you'd always feel was incredibly minimal. For one thing, the ride isn't very long so the section of "drifting" is over rather briefly. The cars also hardly drifted. Shortly after, you could look at the back of the vehicle chasis and see where the springs were and how the car was modified to not sway anymore, not matter how slightly it ever did. • The on-board audio: wow, this was always bad. Even on good days when the queue line audio worked and synced up properly with dispatching trains, it played so softly in the cars that you'd hardly hear it. For what seemed like years, the "outside" audio of police sires wailing seemed to switch on and off. Occasionally speakers beneath the cop cars made noise, occasionally they wouldn't. I think the only audio that's worked consistently is the helicopter/explosion scene. If I recall, the on board audio system was supposed to be re-charged during the loading process via a system below the vehicles and on the track. It apparently was troublesome. • The splash down: always loved that the "splash" scene wasn't actually a splash, but two pumps that sprayed water up after absolutely no attempt was made to hide this fact. They worked for awhile, disappeared at some point. In 2009 and 2010 it took months before water was even returned to the "aqueduct." • Yellow track: I remember the very first KIC event I ever attended was in early 2005 during an IJ:ST construction tour. Jeff Seibert mentioned that they had decided on changing the track from yellow to gray to make it seem like more of a "roadway." Ultimately, it doesn't look great, but imagine that bright yellow track after a few seasons of summer sun with ware and tear. • Lights on the cars: at one point, probably long gone now, the cars had headlights that made the tunnel look cool. • EDIT: I forgot about the fog! Right before you entered the tunnel, one poorly hidden, obvious nozzle would spray fog from the right hand side. It was hardly ever noticed. Sorry for the rant, Backlot Stunt Coaster was such an interesting ride that never came close to meeting its full potential. It was like an "abstract" themed attraction. Yeah, it had decoration, but everything seemed so cheap and minimal, like a high school art student arguing for using less supplies when really he waited to do his project at the last minute. I was 15 when the announcement video came out and so excited, only to find out that the announcement video had several angles of the same sections of ride that made it appear much bigger and longer than the ride would actually be. I remember trying to create a ride in RCT3 based off that video, so excited for what I thought was coming. The final product: ugh. And they built two more! In the end, Backlot's a good, little ride that works for both kids and adults, a nice intermediate attraction. I had a lot of fun working that ride back in the day, but man it was promised to be so much more. Wasn't worth the removal of the Antique Cars and its a bit of an eyesore in a prominent section of the park. I wonder how much longer its kept around on seemingly valuable real estate, although it's relatively reliable and harmless. /End Rant One Last Edit: If you ever get a chance to glance at the ride's blueprints, there was supposed to be a bit more theming such as a fountain that you would've sped around before entering the "subway stairs." The area is shown as a flower garden in the promo video, but was absolutely nothing in reality.

  2. I'm not a fan on spinny or circular rides. I'd like to see some Antique Cars. I'd like to see a Skyride. I'd like to see the train re-invigorated. Those are just my personal preferences. For others, I would like to see some thrilling rides, but I don't know enough about them to name them. Oh, I would love to see Congo Falls relocated to Rivertown.

  5. On the topic of sidewalk chalk, there was one day at Vortex when we were down and apparently one of the parties in line played tic-tac-toe with sidewalk chalk on the wooden queue floor. Great idea (to play tic-tac-toe) but with poor execution. Needless to say, we had fun cleaning the chalk up after closing for the night. Honestly though, I have never thought of bringing sidewalk chalk to Kings Island in the 200+ times I have been there (including work). I wonder how those who did got the idea...

  7. I would like to see a Trabant or Whipout return to the park, and the Skyride as well. Keep updating International Street and add the floral style bushes along the fountain again.

  9. Does anyone else miss "Seeing Stars" by Peter Tong? I forgot I had it on my iPhone still from the first time I Shazamed it at Cirque Imagine in 2014. It was a great curtain call song in my opinion.

  10. Backlot turned out nothing like the animation. When it opened it was cool enough to be passable... for a few days. If you rode it before the park went daily you had the head lights, tail lights, fog, audio, and more. The experience was not what we had been sold, but was still cool and unique. A few days later none of those features worked. Then we had a weak coaster and no Flying Eagles.

  11. The "fly" commercials when X-Flight came to town. Did I say X-Flight? I meant "Firehawk." "Experience the feel of flying." The experience turned out to be more "feel like you're constantly about to be tossed headlong out of a rubber water bladder!"

  13. Why on earth would you bring sidewalk chalk to the park?

  14. As a child of the 80's (born in 1979) some of my earliest memories were of new ride advertisement for Kings Island, both TV and radio. I disntinctly recall ads in 1985 promoting White Water Canyon, 1986 promoting the flats added to Coney Mall (Skylab, Zephyr and new Dodgems) and 1987 and Vortex. Cut to 1988 and I remember the promotion for the then Amazon Falls. I was thinking it was going to be another rapids type ride like WWC, the ads made it seem like you'd be travelling deep into the "jungle" before the big drop. Imagine my disappointment when I go to the park and see the ride is just go up a hill, turn 180 degrees and then drop down. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy Congo Falls for exactly what it is but 9 year old me could only think "That's It!?!" Do you have any memories of rides you thought were going to be way different than they were based on the ads for them?

  20. Would that be the Lucy Edition or Peppermint Patty Edition of the Platinum Elite Diamond Exclusive Pass?

  21. I think @King Ding Dong should get his own platinum elite diamond exclusive pass. This would allow him to have a special gondola on WindSeeker that is equipped with a Freestyle concierge.

  26. Mondial Top Scan... Absolutely love them... Bonus points if it's got something near by to give you that 'near miss' feeling when you're seated at the end of an arm... If you don't mind a bit of wetness, a Mack Twist'n'Splash or Mack Interactive Boat Ride... Fun on a hot day, but won't absolutely drench you...

  27. I'm not sure what was worse, the actual delivery of the ride, or the fact I had to spend like 4 straight weekends baking in the sun, blocking off the pathway on the West side of the ride telling people they had to go around.

  28. Wooden Warrior @ Quassy, Switchback @ ZDTs, Ravine Flyer II @ Waldameer, Roar-O-Saurus @ Story Land, Oscars Wacky Taxi @ Sesame Place, as well as various other retracks. They appear to be focusing on family & unique rides, rather than the massive rides. I almost wonder if the age of Mega Wooden Coasters is over.

  30. We recieved teasers about Carowinds new coaster on Twitter today! Let's start a thread about its progress! I love all of the references to Miami River Lumber Co. and Steel Vengeance. I know we had guessing in another thread, but with these teasers, what are your thoughts? Seems like a woddie or hybrid with a barn. #whatsinthebarn we called it here first!

  31. Banshee is taller, and it screams, so it might seem more intimidating to a first-time rider. Vortex is an older ride, having just celebrated its 30th birthday last season. It's not as smooth as Banshee, and the inversions are more forceful, which might seem scarier to some people. Personally, I love riding both. By the way, please don't create multiple, similar threads or make double posts, as this clutters up the forum. If you haven't already, I'd recommend reviewing the terms of service. https://kicentral.com/forums/index.php?/topic/4128-terms-of-service/

  34. There has to be more to this story. Maybe something inappropriate was drawn or they were asked to stop and got into it with whoever told them, or something. I’ve seen people with far worse “offenses” get way more second chances.

  35. Nah, it's just how our imaginations + clever advertising can sometimes create a ride in our minds that reality doesn't live up to lol.

  36. As rough as it has been this year, at the end of the ride, I did "pay". LOL

  37. Obviously, not knowing the whole story, it's hard for us to pass any judgement, and not being affiliated with the park, there's little any of us could do about it even if we did. However, if you confronted park staff with the same combative attitude you brought to the boards, I doubt the initial vandalism was the only thing brought into consideration when deciding on punishment. But since you asked, the rule is in the season pass terms you agreed to when you purchased a pass: https://www.visitkingsisland.com/legal/season-pass-terms

  40. The problem is the guard goes one way and the person smoking goes the other. The smoker just lights one up as soon as the guard or employee is away from site.

  41. Re-instate these passes and allow the children to write the current wait times on the pavement in front of every ride entrance.

  42. That’s great. Really. But are there not creative and imaginative opportunities within the park already? And while it’s not specifically stated as being prohibited, don’t you think it’s a good idea to not let literally anyone write and draw literally whatever they want inside the park? I’m creative and imaginative myself, but that doesn’t mean I feel entitled to draw a giant weinerschnitzel in Oktoberfest with chalk.

  43. Because most were taught not to damage other people’s property?? Yes, it comes off, but you are defacing private property. The park spends a lot of money to build a brand and market it. That includes scenery and such. When someone comes in and starts defacing that brand with chalk they are damaging the brand. Also, the he park now has to spend money to have an employee to clean it up. Can I come to your house and draw all over it with chalk? It will come off. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  44. This is a fan forum page that isn't managed by the park... This isn't really the place to ask the park a question. I'd be surprised if they reply at all. If you're looking to gather support/sympathy from other season pass holders (like myself), perhaps you should include why you brought chalk to the park and what you wrote (and where). I'm trying to understand how the interaction went when you were confronted. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  45. I'm autistic myself and would probably do the same thing with one of my favourite interests if I was with a good friend or someone who'd let me do it, albeit my interests don't tend to be as historically based.

  46. Yes, they're installing a UniCoaster, but look at the overall investment of $2 Billion for the whole complex. The site is as big as KI and who is to say they don't add more rides? This appears to be a direct shot at CF. With CF's new sports complex and their plans on making CP a destination vacation spot, as well as KI being in the southern part of the state, this company is trying to split the markets and poach business from both. This would be a situation to watch very closely to see how CF responds.

  49. @chugh43 This hypercoaster is the tallest, fastest, and longest of its kind in the Midwest. In fact, Diamondback still holds the record for the tallest, longest, and fastest coaster in the world to feature a splash down. With multiple hills, airtime moments, and speeds reaching 80 miles per hour, its no wonder why this coaster is a favorite among park guests.
