  1. Horses are incredibly strong animals, but too much weight on their backs is definitely a bad thing. Proper fitting of tack as well as proper rider posture/weight distribution is super important. Proper riding attire for the rider themselves is also key. I realize this is a pretty cool experience that a lot of people may not get to have otherwise, but my biggest issue is that these types of attractions simply don't belong in amusement parks. Horses are not just recreational vehicles for our entertainment and these attractions don't teach people the whole experience that is involved with riding and caring for a horse ( basic horsemanship/etique, grooming, tacking up, riding, cooling down, un-tacking, etc ) I also realize that many people may not care to learn these things, they simply wish to get on a horse and ride, but I feel that since these are still animals, large ones at that, they deserve respect and understanding as well. It is an honor for a horse to let you borrow their bodies for a moment of freedom. I just wish more people would take the liberty of going to a stable or horse farm to learn about these animals if they like them so much. Gives you a much better appreciation for them. Surely some of you might disagree or think I'm being negative, but as a horse owner of over 20 years, I care deeply for these animals and it makes me sad how many untrained people just think you hop on and go when there is so much more involved....even if in these cases there is someone holding a lead rope.

  3. 1. Any plans to give Viking Fury some long over due TLC? It has needed a new paint job for more years than I can count, it would be nice to have someone talented take some time painting the woman on the front of the boat really nice & detailed. (It would be too much to hope for to have a sail reinstalled.) The ride seems to still draw enough of a crowd to deserve some love. 2. Where did the “goldfish” go in the pond? (Did they die or were they removed...I have been told both stories by employees.)

  4. The question I have is regarding the flower pot in the floral bed at Coney BBQ. I was watching The Godfather last night on AMC with my father and noticed in the scene with Jack Woltz mansion near the beginning of the film, there was an old styled flowerpot in the foreground of the shot. It looks exactly like the one outside the Coney BBQ. Is this an old Paramount movie prop still being used by the park? They have used old props for Halloween Haunt, such as the cage from The Golden Child and the Starship Enterprise from Star Trek.

  5. I visited Dollywood for the first time in my life back at the end of May. I loved it! In fact my thought on here is I would love to see Kings Island get a topper track wooden roller coaster like Lightning rod someday. I also have some pictures to share from my experience there. https://www.flickr.com/photos/58502725@N03/albums/72157696415013901

  7. I really don’t want to attempt to justify rude behavior, but it was a really was a long day for a lot of the associates. They may have very well been on hour 14 or so. There is no excuse for being rude but we are all human.

  8. @DJSkyFoxx I completely agree. My grandparents have a horse-boarding farm between Batavia and Williamsburg. We have close to 30 horses (as much as we can handle) on the property. It definitely isn't as easy or as cheap as some people make horses out to be.

  9. We joke around with @pianoman that the giga will use the fountains as a splashdown. Can someone make that?

  10. Today's concept removes blackout and travels at the front of the park, but isn't a gate coaster. The name is again Centurion.

  11. Just love putting gigas in places they won't go in. Today's concept splits The Bat's queue line. The left side is for the giga and the right side is for Bat. They'd add a Fast Lane path as well. Obviously, the pathway would have to be widened. I give you Timberwolf to go along with GWL right next door and Timberwolf theatre.

  14. the most common question at Mystic: Is this a water ride? Can I put _____ in the truck? Is this the Son of Beast?

  15. I would like to start a thread of questions that you would like to ask the park if you could talk to them yourself. This would be in depth questions about a coaster, manitenance, shows, and operations that you would like to know. My plan would be to try and get them answered in a future interview.

  17. I have had a few, but my two favorites are: Viking Fury...being the only one on the ship was awkward, especially when you outnumber the crew. The Beast. (Front row of course.) This was over 10 years ago, it was a cold rainy October day...not too many brave souls out and about that day. (There loss!) It was so much fun having the whole train to myself and something I'll always remember.

  18. The extensions happen every spring and fall, and now I expect them as a result. I have a Platinum Pass, so I tune out the May-July window of buying a Gold Pass and instead focus on the fall renewal window. And then there's Auto-Renewal but that's a different story. But I think @silver2005 is totally right. Surely I am not the only one who "knows" that they will extend the offers every time. @BoddaH1994 is right too. I believe the urgency has decreased dramatically, if not disappeared entirely since this past offer was extended for over a month rather than a mere four days. Then again, I have had a Platinum Pass since 2013 (and Gold from 2010-2012) so I am no longer part of the target audience (except for renewal time), but I just thought it wouldn't hurt if I chipped in with my thoughts.

  19. Wooden Warrior @ Quassy, Switchback @ ZDTs, Ravine Flyer II @ Waldameer, Roar-O-Saurus @ Story Land, Oscars Wacky Taxi @ Sesame Place, as well as various other retracks. They appear to be focusing on family & unique rides, rather than the massive rides. I almost wonder if the age of Mega Wooden Coasters is over.

  20. Does anyone else miss "Seeing Stars" by Peter Tong? I forgot I had it on my iPhone still from the first time I Shazamed it at Cirque Imagine in 2014. It was a great curtain call song in my opinion.

  23. I’d be down for either Gravity Group Timberliners or GCI Millennium Flyers on The Racer. I’m sure this way to cart before the horse to be discussing. But that would be sweet!

  24. What if Fred Grubb was here because Rocky Mountain Construction has been traditionally retracking The Racer? Either way, it wouldn't make much sense to close the ride shortly after it got a good amount of retracking. Still hoping for a Ghostrider style treatment if any changes are being made to the ride.

  25. I'd say racer got a good amount of track work over the offseason and is running rather well. They'd be pretty crazy to change it.

  28. As far as I know, the only CF coaster they've touched is the late Rebel Yell. I'd say Cedar Fair has a stronger relationship with GCI at the moment as they've been the go-to for wooden coasters for over a decade now

  29. I'm pretty sure I know who they were. If I am correct, then no, they had nothing to do with a new coaster. They were taking pictures... that later got posted to FB and a website... One was there for purposes related to another attraction at the park.

  31. Oscars Wacky Taxi, Switchback, Roar-O-Saurus, and Zippin Pippin are all recent builds by the Gravity Group in the US. Ravine Flyer II is 10 years old this year. There is a chance I missed something as well. But I am not aware of any relationship between Gravity Group and Cedar Fair so I doubt we would see them working on The Racer. I am leaning towards something interacting with The Racer, or maybe even just a lighting package, or painting the coaster.

  32. What has gravity group done in the states the last decade besides a small woodie for fun spot.

  33. Rmc can add topper track and I wouldn't care since it would still be considered wooden. What Racer really needs is a gci or a gravity group retrack which wouldn't be an issue considering how iconic the ride is to the industry.

  34. I sure hope it's not an RMC conversion. That ride still gets good ridership. Would love to see a GCI retrack of it though, maybe reprofiling by Martin and Vleminckx and some Millennium Flyer trains like Wildcat at Lake Compounce or Ghostrider at Knotts. The ACE Landmark plaque is back outside the entrance to the ride, so hopefully it's not the end.

  35. parts of it look like they are using the oil/grease as a paint color. Several of the coasters there could use a good bath and paint job. Firehawk's mask is meticulously being pulled back to reveal X-Flight.

  36. Yes, well, there’s a few things to note. When surveying it is always important to take photo of the sight lines just Incase there are any potential obstructions. Case in point, I had a two day experience where the first day the site was absolutely clear, second day the site was covered for College Game Day broadcast. However with any surveying project, you need some base point or reference point to refer elevations to. The base point is usually where someone sets up their tripod, focuses the laser on the base marker and starts surveying.

  39. I highly doubt they would do an RMC conversion of racer... But I do think they're going to be remodelling it and refreshing it. That thing is falling apart. Sent from my ONEPLUS A5010 using Tapatalk

  40. The goats ate them. Speaking of goats a grandparent brought some smoked goat meat to a campout a few months ago. I had never had it before and it was pretty good. Would be a good idea for Coney BBQ. They might need to expand the goat area a little bit more to accommodate the demand. Pet the goat, feed the goat, eat the goat. What a wonderful circle of life experience for the little tikes.

  42. Kinda cool that they now have this as I saw that Cedar Point offers pony rides as well. Also, for those that like ponies, there are still ponies in the petting farm area, even though the rideable "ponies" are actually horses.

  43. This brings me back to when the park had dolphins and lions.

  44. Well, they're horses not ponies so chances are it is a decently high weight limit. All children and most adults should be able to ride. Edit: just went and looked at the pics, and it says the weight limit is 150 lbs. I must have overestimated the size of the horses. Ironically, after doing a little more research, it turns out that ponies, even though they are a little shorter, because they have a stockier build, would probably be able to carry heavier loads. And I know the sign calls them "ponies" but the animals I saw giving rides had the conformation of horses, not ponies.

  48. Back in the 90's, when it was possible for the maintenance folks to easily adjust/lower the old skid brakes, I had the opportunity as an employee to take a spin on The Beast with all the brakes off. They occasionally did this early in the year in preparation for the start of the season to "break in" the ride. Having ridden it in normal operation hundreds of times, I can honestly say the most impressive part of the experience was the amount of speed the ride is capable of in the section between the break shed and the second lift (in the sections of track where the ride hugs the ground). The lack of breaks on the first drop didn't add a whole lot to the experience (although it did allow for the smallest pop of airtime in the back seat on the hill as you come off the first drop). The helix felt a little faster, but mostly a dramatic increase in roughness. Having ridden it without the breaks, I definitely think they are necessary (as much as I hate to say it) for the comfort of most guests and for maintenance purposes - I could see some of the turns needing yearly rebuilding if they let it go "full throttle." And while the speeds today are generally the same as when the skid breaks were used, I just think they are more noticable because of the magnetic trims. The skid breaks slowed more gradually, as opposed to the sudden "grabbing" feeling of the magnets.
