  4. I tend to agree with Chad on this post. Granted we don't know all that was said, but someone being "rude" is subjective. Personally, as long as they didn't use profanity or make fun of the individual, I would tend to think they were simply doing their job. There are postings all over the park (including the video signs above you when you get your pass scanned - wonder how many have never noticed that!, at the ride itself, etc.) so there really isn't any excuse for a person to get that far in line. As Bodda points out, the employee could have been working a long day by that time and perhaps this person was the 40th person that day that had tried to sneak a cup through the line and on the ride and being human, most of us by that time would have not been as polite as we probably could be OR maybe they have tried the polite approach to only be cussed out (I have seen that happen all too often) so they decided to simply be stern in hopes it would come across authoritatively. There is a difference between stern and rude. I cannot tell you how many times I have seen people try to sneak something past the greeter at the front of the ride. The majority of the time they are caught, but at night and if going in with a group, things like a cup can be missed. But again, that isn't the greeter's fault, that is the individual for not reading and following the rules. Maybe we should make it a requirement that all guests must pass a basic rules exam before entering the park LOL!!! But we live in a coddle society so someone probably expects the employee should say something like "Hi I'm Katie and I unfortunately regret to have to inform you that the policy on this ride is that you are not allowed to bring anything onto the ride. I am so sorry that you missed our postings and that the greeter at the front of the line missed it. I also apologize profusely that we do not have bins for you to put it in. Please accept my dearest sympathies in your situation but I will have to kindly ask you to leave the ride. As a token of my apologies, here is a FastLane pass so that you can enjoy the rides at the park without waiting. I am so sorry we made you stand in line and again please accept my heartfelt apologies." Personally, I was raised that if you did something wrong, don't expect a sugar coat or politeness when being corrected or being told of your infraction as they are there to enforce policy not be the make you feel good greeter. The part that frustrates me the most are seeing people with souvenir cups doing stuff like trying to take stuff through Banshee or Mystic lines and smoking where they shouldn't be - they are obviously pass holders and should know better.

  6. I have been told a couple of times at KI this year I have two drink plans on my pass. All three of us purchased drink plans. Well today at a FreeStyle here at CP the associate told me my pass has two, Ryans has three and Kiefers has one but has option to be converted to Souvenir Cup for free. So I have been testing it out. (Never getting more than three cups at a time so not cheating CF in any way) Several times I have gotten 2 cups with my pass. It turns out Ryan can get only get two cups not three. Weird. But all the the half dozen times I have done this the employees don’t bat an eye and it seems perfectly acceptable to them. Now I would never really get more than 1 flavored drink in 15 minutes as I would want water in between. Will be interesting to actually try this at KI. Again never actually getting more than three at a time. Scouts Honor. Who knows maybe this is a temporary glitch. I did have to replace Kiefers pass today because he lost it at KI the other week. (They didn’t charge me). The sales associate also ended up replacing my pass because she messed something up a supervisor had to fix. But Ryan’s was not touched. To bad that meal plans don’t have the same glitch.

  7. Time to update my list! - Ride Vortex for the 500th time, and celebrate with a fireworks ride on Vortex that same day. #MaybeMay4 <--Done, except for the fireworks ride part, which I did several days later. - Reach 600 rides on Vortex - Reach 700 rides on Vortex (believe it or not, that is my target for my overall total this year!) - Watch the new Cirque show from the day it starts (unlike when I never saw Origins until 2016 and waited until 2017) <--Done! Saw it on May 27 (the day after it opened) with some friends from school and I have seen it three times so far (I need to see it again soon so I can see the new contortion act!) - Possibly reach 200 flights on WindSeeker? (I'm at 121 and the most I've ridden in one season is 39) - Eat at Coney Bar B Que <--Done! Ate there May 27; I got the ribs and mac & cheese, which were really good! - Visit Soak City more than once - Spend at least one guest visit with a KIC group (especially if @Beastie1980 is there! We need to spend more time at KI together!) - Watch JUMP! The Ultimate Dog Challenge at least once in its entirety. Also, I must make note of a few "bucket list" occurrences not on the list that I got to do since the season started: -Ride Vortex at midnight -- May 18 (thanks Coasterstock!) -Ride Vortex in a torrential downpour -- June 12 -Get evacuated off a ride (for the full story PM me) -Ride Vortex with a double rainbow in the sky -- June 27 -Work the "Op-1" position on WindSeeker -- got to do that for one cycle while someone was being trained at Op-3 during my hour there. -See a train in Vortex's train storage (as well as seeing them move the train in/out) -- that was a super cool #geekmoment! -- July 6

  8. Excellent question Oldschool! In fact, many of these ride operators begin to recognize regulars that should know better and maybe the ride operators get a little short or more terse with those types, similar to how our parents were not polite when we did something stupid and they called us out on it - they know us and know we know better lol!

  9. A small purse is technically a bag., and all bags have to be in a locker. I would think it's not a matter of consistency (all the time) it's a matter of guests who listen. The problem with Mystic is that there is only 1 sign that tells you to secure your articles, and people seem to be more compliant with this. At Banshee there are 3, two of them being right next to where you enter the line. And people still attempt to enter the line as quickly as possible to avoid the operators who are at the front of the line.

  10. I was driving Vortex when you rode! (I drove it from 9:15 to about 10:10) I hope you enjoyed it! I'm glad you at least had a good experience on my two rides. Fireworks rides on WindSeeker never disappoint.

  12. I really don’t want to attempt to justify rude behavior, but it was a really was a long day for a lot of the associates. They may have very well been on hour 14 or so. There is no excuse for being rude but we are all human.

  16. As Bodda said, the simple answer is YES. Now for the explanation... EVERY operator of treatment facilities has had violations. In the industry, the Department of Justice (DOJ) serving as an arm to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) issues hundreds of Consent Decrees yearly to entities operating treatment facilities. What is a Consent Decree? A Consent Decree is a fancy name for lawsuit. This consent decree calls out what an entity has to do and spend to get into compliance Every major city has a consent decree. Surrounding Kings Island we have Cincinnati, Columbus, Cleveland, Middletown, Lima, Milford, Louisville, Lexington, Clermont County, Northern Kentucky, etc. all have one. For the big cities it is in the BILLIONS of dollars for each city to get into compliance... In addition, hundreds of consent decrees are issued to mobile home parks, amusement parks, interstate rest areas, etc. which are entities other than sewer districts that operate treatment facilities. Even Amazon has a consent decree for violations. The kicker in all this is that the EPA goes after the "low hanging fruit" which are these treatment plants. The reality is that the pollution that leaves just your property from runoff after just one rain event is putting more pollution into the creeks than just about any treatment plant. The amount of pollutants from a home yard that leaves the yard as runoff and goes into the curb inlet and then the creeks/river is a lot. Between fertilizers put down, normal soil erosion, animal droppings, leave decay, etc. the pollutants that get into the creek from sources other than treatment plants is astronomical. Heck, one animal relieving itself near a creek puts more contamination into the creek that a treatment plant that processes hundreds of millions of gallons of water a day. Same goes for one septic tank. Wanna know why Missouri made the Worlds of Fun permit less restrictive...regulators are slowly realizing that these point sources (treatment plants) are not the problem. It is all the non-point sources like our yards, driveways, roads, parking lots, farms, etc. that is the problem. Treatment plants put out well less than 1% of the total contaminants in the waterways. One large farm puts out more pollution into to the waterways than the community treatment plant that the farm is in. Instead of spending $200 million on a treatment plant upgrade, if the community bought buffer zones along the creeks and waterways in their community it would be much more beneficial than spending that money at a treatment facility to try to get a marginal improvement on an already clear discharge. Some communities are doing just that with great results. So the media makes it to be a big deal when these treatment plant operators have a violation, but the fact of the matter is even with the violation it is usually insignificant in the big scheme of things. The fact of the matter is the discharge from most treatment plants is basically to drinking level quality. Heck in California where water is a premium, they just about do just that - it comes in as sewage and leaves as drinking water. It is being done in space on the International Space Station. In fact, some craft beer in California is starting to be made from effluent from a treatment plant...

  17. I’m curious because you have been on this forum long enough to know you can’t bring items on Mystic Timbers, so why did you try when you knew you couldn’t? Was the employee “rude” because you felt you should be able to bring the item on the ride? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  19. Too many people complain about the souvenir cups (not being able to get them on rides, storing them, getting stolen, etc), so it is possible that the ride operator wanted the person to personally dispose of it, lest it come back that the ride operator threw it away. On Saturday, I saw 2 of them sitting on the dirt at the front of Mystic. Evil thoughts ran through my mind, but I figured that it was someone elses issue if they got stolen or pitched. Gotta love the cup replacement!

  20. What I was saying was maybe the employee tried during the day to be nice and polite to other guests that violated policy and were cussed out so they figured why be nice and tried the stern approach and maybe it was this calm couple that was the recipient of the employee trying a different approach because being polite with other guests simply resulted in being cussed out. I suspect it wasn't their first time at the park since they were so willing to discard the cup, but maybe they had such a bad day they decided they would never come back and was willing to dispose of cup. Now I agree that for the sake of speed and dispatch times, to make the individual get out and throw away the cup seems counter intuitive as that would most definitely slow dispatch times. We will never know the full story unfortunately, so people will post their viewpoints based on what they believe happened and how they interpret your posts. For all we know the line separator in the station could have told the couple they couldn't ride with the cup and they blew them off or went off on the separator so the ride operator decided to be a stern authoritative. We will never know. One of the reasons why I hate when the media shows a 15 second clip of some "issue" and it goes viral and what is being seen on that clip could be totally taken out of context without knowing what led up to the event that was captured. Anything less than that and we are assuming what happened and we know what happens when one assumes.

  21. There’s been a few times where I’ve witnessed the ride employee at the entrance getting distracted with something and a guest entered the line with a bag or souvenir bottle without the employee catching it. It’s possible that could have been the case in this situation. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. I hope they revive the Bavarian theming in this area somehow. Take advantage of the trees and create great shaded atmosphere. Live/roaming bands or at least blast it from all the speakers. Some great themed flats including a Skyhawk. The Festhaus should be a cheerful refuge from the heat and brimming with German food, drink, and music at all times and move away from the 'employee cafeteria' motif they have going on now. For years they have squandered arguably the most impressive building in the park.

  23. If I remember correctly, it was built to be heavily themed and be as much Indiana Jones like as possible. There used to be mist all along the low track and parts where arrows came up and down in the tunnels as well as a number of skeletons along the ride. There was a track closed sign as well at one of the tunnels. When Paramount owned KI, they played the Raiders March, aka the Indiana Jones theme through the overhead speakers along with commentary. I have always liked AE as a coaster. Great starter coaster for growing kids. My 6 year old son rides it and just rode Stunt Coaster for the first time a few weeks ago. A park has to have in betweens for the transition from kids rides to bigger ones. I figure The Bat will be his next one. He likes steel coasters best.

  24. I would be ok with no bins on any ride. Put stuff in your pockets. If it does not fit, take your souvenirs/belongings out to the car, leave it in a stroller or get a locker.

  26. We were at the park on Saturday while it was crowded and we didn't do much we had a great time and all the staff was awesome. We were also in the waterpark Sunday and had great experiences this weekend. The food we had was actually really good. No ice at the drink stands and half working machines still continues though.

  27. My wife has a running belt (thin version of a fanny pack). It holds everything she needs, even her phone. She wears it under her shirt and has never had a problem. And as far as the couple getting in the seat with the souvenir cup, it sucks that the employees were rude, but I believe there are posted signs that state that these items cannot be carried on with you. It seems like another case of "that rule doesn't apply to me".

  28. As a woman who frequents the park, I've developed a way to have all of my personal items on my person at all times in the park without having to carry a bag. If I need something important, I'll run to my car to retrieve it. It can definitely be done, and makes for a more enjoyable experience for myself as I don't have to worry about anything but getting on and off rides.

  29. In line for Firehawk, one person in the group was saying that they need to repaint it. I mentioned that I would be happy if the camera were put back up. He said "they wont do that, they are going to get rid of it". I asked him how he knew this and he said some of the operators told him this. I did not even bother to ask him why repaint it if they are going to get rid of it.

  30. I had an issue yesterday at Mystic, instead of the operator pulling up to make sure the lap bar was locked, the operator pushed down with all of his weight and knocked the wind out of me. Then I brought it to another ops attention and they were making excuses for the behavior. I did indeed go to GS in all of the rides I've taken on Mystic that has never happened and it shouldn't have happened. Sent from my SM-G960U using Tapatalk

  31. No, I figured that was for them to do. Plus it was late and a long ride home. We stayed till midnight On a better note, we rode Vortex about 945, and then ran over to WindSeeker and timed it just right and they timed us so that we was going up as the fireworks started.

  32. Horses are incredibly strong animals, but too much weight on their backs is definitely a bad thing. Proper fitting of tack as well as proper rider posture/weight distribution is super important. Proper riding attire for the rider themselves is also key. I realize this is a pretty cool experience that a lot of people may not get to have otherwise, but my biggest issue is that these types of attractions simply don't belong in amusement parks. Horses are not just recreational vehicles for our entertainment and these attractions don't teach people the whole experience that is involved with riding and caring for a horse ( basic horsemanship/etique, grooming, tacking up, riding, cooling down, un-tacking, etc ) I also realize that many people may not care to learn these things, they simply wish to get on a horse and ride, but I feel that since these are still animals, large ones at that, they deserve respect and understanding as well. It is an honor for a horse to let you borrow their bodies for a moment of freedom. I just wish more people would take the liberty of going to a stable or horse farm to learn about these animals if they like them so much. Gives you a much better appreciation for them. Surely some of you might disagree or think I'm being negative, but as a horse owner of over 20 years, I care deeply for these animals and it makes me sad how many untrained people just think you hop on and go when there is so much more involved....even if in these cases there is someone holding a lead rope.

  33. Back in the early 90's my dad did some vibration testing on The Beast for his company (Signalysis, Inc) attempting to get into the ride biz. He said one night after hours, he and my step mom rode The Beast completely free of any and all brakes. I'll have to get the exact numbers from him but I'm pretty sure he said he originally calibrated his equipment to just under 80mph. Well, the thing surpassed 80mph, he claims it actually crested the 2nd lift hill with almost no need for the chain lift, and after the most insane ride of his life he had to ride it AGAIN because he had to recalibrate his equipment for over 80mph. My dad was always a bit of a thrill seeker but in this case it was a little bit too intense and he wasn't exactly excited about having to ride it again!

  36. The extreme heat may have been to blame for some of the issues yesterday. All the rides (except BLSC, which was down for several hours) were operating most of the day. One lucky train of riders disembarked from the brake run of Mystic Timbers, walking back to the station via the shed.
