  1. All the full timers get together for happy hour once a month and watch a slide show of all these. I think I have some video of a recent one.

  2. ^ I don't know. I feel like they would go after the Reds rather than the Bengals being that they already have a Reds themed restaurant in rivertown. That's my opinion though. By the way, I'm sure you read my posts before, but I'm also a Colts fan and I live here in Akron, Ohio, which is browns territory.

  4. It is a gutsy move on Kennywood's part, but I will admit the theme is getting the ride wider press coverage than it would otherwise enjoy. Which might be a good thing for the park. KI has a larger market than Kennywood has, so I wouldn't count on a similar move here. A Bengals coaster wouldn't be easy to market in Indy. Top Thrill Cubster was really well done for Opening Weekend. On a similar note, CP is certainly glad now that LeBron turned down their offer in 2014.

  6. I also believe the "no loose article" policy is resulting in the unintended consequences phenomenon. In addition to the reasons above, there are numbers of people that based on comments they read on social media have decided to not visit the parks due to the locker rental policy... Here is a fun fact showing the phenomenon of unintended consequences of implementing something intended to fix a problem. In Ohio there have been more deaths/accidents attributed to texting while driving since the law went into effect banning driving while texting. Why is that - before the law, people would text with both arms on top of the steering wheel texting up there where they had peripheral vision around them - so they were still distracted driving but had some benefit of peripheral vision. Now that the law is in effect, people are now texting with the phone in their lap so other drivers and police cannot see their phone. Once they did that the peripheral vision is now no longer the road...Something to think about!

  7. I did post about this here (there are already some comments): The ride looks fun, though I can see the Steelers theme possibly being a turn-off for various reasons. However, if Kings Island wants to respond by I dunno, building a huge Bengals-themed area with a massive B&M Giga or something, that would be interesting. (Even though I am a Colts fan- I don't hate the Bengals though so I would still ride if it was a good coaster. Now, if it was New England Patriots themed, which would happen at Six Flags New England I imagine...)

  10. Don't forget "Flight of Fear retrofitted into a knock-off Rock N' Roller Coaster featuring MTV theming." Would've loved to have seen how many new lights wouldn't work after two seasons and how the queue would still be showing music videos from circa 2005-07.

  11. Well I was being a little sarcastic (I think), but not too far off. Earlier in the day while waiting for a break at the front of the line to ask questions I heard the security guard there at the time tell a group of teen girls "go hang your bags on the fence nobody will steal them while I'm here". When nobody was at the entrance I mentioned to the security guard and the ride op that their sister park KI would never allow that and in fact I have seen several times at KI where kids have tried to hide their bags and then watch security take them up to lost and found lol. They just shook their heads that KI would do that. Nobody I talked to saw the problem with that. One of them told me just their presence was a deterrent from someone stealing a bag. What ride does KI have a security guard at the entrance all day on a typical weekday? Granted I wasn't at the ride all day, but at the times I rode or went by, it was the guard telling people to hang them on the fence not the ride op. The poor kid working the lockers looked like the Maytag repair man lol (see if anyone gets that).

  16. Saw something interesting yesterday. A couple, mid 40's, got into a violent argument at the Coke refill station near Diamondback. The woman insisted upon having a bite of the man's blue ice cream. Annoyed, he offers it to her but kind of thrusts it in her face (rude, but no contact). She bats it out of his hand onto the ground and then grabs his drink and throws it all over him before both of them storm off screaming at each other. Based on what I heard, I can only assume that they were arguing over who loved America more: Kid Rock or Skynard. #ItsAmazingInHere

  17. I agree that some flat rides or a wild mouse would be a great addition to Kings Island. I would love it if they got a flat ride package like Carowinds got a few years ago. Dorney is a great park. I went there about five years ago. I really enjoyed their classic Whip ride. Talon was good as well. Still need to get there with my wife, but that is on our list of places to go.

  20. I think what Kings Island could in the spot of Vortex; if it gets removed in the future is a nice B&M Floorless roller coaster like Rougarou at Cedar Point. Maybe this time for them, they could introduce a vest restraint style system and be the first park ever to get a Floorless with the new restraints. Some people are going to bash me, but I'm a huge fan of Rougarou at Cedar Point

  23. Funny thing is, I was just at Kennywood today and had no idea they were announcing the new attraction today. I like the idea of going for a Reds theme rather than the Bengals. They could build a coaster called "The Big Red Machine," with a length of 4,192 feet.

  26. I've ridden it four times without a Fast Lane in the longest I ever had to wait was an hour and 30 minutes. The only time I rid it with a Fast Lane the line ended up being around 30 minutes long. I recommend going either during an early ride time or towards the early evening when people who showed up to the park early are starting to leave.

  27. I love rougarou, and I love Vortex. I laugh when people say they are rough, I had a beast ride Tuesday and that was the worst ride I've had out of any coaster this year. But I usually sitting in the middle row of a car too, this was row 15 and it was very uncomfortable.

  28. I can't say that I expected Kennywood to make another go at a 200'+ inverting coaster, but the ride looks really fun! S&S/Arrow hasn't built something of this scale in North America for a good while, so I'm really looking forward to riding it. Looking at the photos on the Kennywood site, the seats look similar to those on S&S's more recent sit-down coasters in China. https://rcdb.com/10077.htm#p=53110 https://rcdb.com/9442.htm#p=35931 As for the theme... Steelers Country really threw me for a loop. This is a big enough investment to draw people from deep into Browns and Eagles territory, so I don't get why they'd limit their reach.

  34. I think it depends what your are looking for. Kings Island has really grown over the past few years and its now one of my top parks. I find I usually have less fun at Cedar Point when I go because I am usually spending alot more time standing in lines.

  37. I like Rougarou- I've had both very smooth rides on it, and one kinda headbangy one (It wasn't that bad, though I was also sitting in the very last row on that ride). I liked the strong G-Forces and thought it had a great layout. Then again, I have pretty high coaster durability apparently because I also like Vortex and Magnum XL-200 and rarely do I get off a coaster in pain or with a headache . But my sister, who is a foot smaller than me and dislikes Vortex, did like Rougarou (she HATED it as Mantis though). Also if Kings Island did get a B&M Floorless Coaster, it would likely be very different. Not only has B&M gone from the OTSRs to Vest Restraints (Rougarou could not get vests due to being a former stand-up) they also have more "graceful" designs these days that don't "snap" from element to element as much like their 90's coasters did. Of the 6 B&M coasters I have ridden, Rougarou and Raptor feel very different in that regard from Banshee, Diamondback, GateKeeper, and Valravn (Though Rougarou's 1st half feels much closer to the newer coasters it whips around plenty after the MCBR). I imagine if Kings Island did ask B&M to build them a floorless, it would be similar to a sit-down Banshee with lots of large high speed inversions and smooth transitions. TBH, thinking about it that way, B&M would need to be careful not to create "Banshee, but ABOVE the track!". I would probably go with a different drop style, include some inversions Banshee lacks (Cobra Roll, Corkscrews, etc.) and maybe even add some tunnels. Having some inversions seen on Banshee would be OK, but I would not use too many (Loop + Zero G Roll might be enough). If designed properly to compliment Banshee instead of compete with it (B&M could probably pull it off) a coaster like that could be a valuable addition to Kings Island's lineup, especially considering as a B&M it would have great capacity and reliability. Make it too much like Banshee though, and guests will wonder why Kings Island dropped $20M+ on a similar ride.

  38. Shawn, you and Mathew are the only two people that I can recall that are gaga over that ride. The thing has the worst headbanging in the park. Most wouldn’t touch it if it wasn’t always a walk-on. Now if they could build one that didn’t require a dose of ibuprofen I am game.

  39. I hate the "screaming that she rode it earlier part" every time I hear it. It never works.... Just because you were speeding on the I71 and didn't get caught doesn't mean you won't get caught next time lol. I bet that mindset works well when an officer pulls her over - well I sped here last time and didn't get a ticket...

  41. Storm Chaser Review: Yesterday I had the opportunity to ride Storm Chaser 21 times in a three hour period. After being slightly disappointed with Steel Vengeance’s lack of insane ejector, I wanted to make an effort to get to Kentucky Kingdom. Interestingly, Storm Chaser opened an hour after the park itself opened. I ran into the plaza, through the queue, and into the station. Despite the one hour delayed opening of Storm Chaser, ops still had to wait for their supervisor to check restraints, back pads, and run two test trains. Sadly the back row was closed due to a poor adhesive job. There was no question... Only one train was going to be in operation throughout the day, however, this seemed to cause no problems. I boarded into a middle row for my first ride. I tightened my restraint, allowing a substantial gap between by thighs and the restraint. The op who checked my restraint encouraged this and never tightened my restraint. We slowly pulled out of the station, gaining speed and descending to the right. I immediately noticed the lack of clever tensioning mechanism (I would love for u/noxegon to explain this), providing a slight jolt when the train engages the chain. The ascent was quick and relatively steep, providing amazing views of downtown Louisville and the rolling Indiana hills. The bank left is taken quickly no matter your seat. The first drop is a definite highlight of the ride experience, giving sensations I’ve felt no where else. The “hangtime” acts in such whacky ways. The best way to describe this phenom is “reverse airtime”. I felt the front provided this sensation the best. The train quickly rises again into the star moment of the ride, a large parabolic airtime hill. This hill provided the craziest sustained ejector airtime I’ve ever felt (stronger than any Vengeance pop). Gaining speed quickly, the train glides through a 140 degree overbank turn, making it the second inversion. The extreme diversification through the first three elements allow for a top tier RMC case to be made. The train rockets up into an off-axis airtime hill, again, providing extreme ejector airtime. It then dips into a small turnaround, this element slams you into your seat allowing for you to experience positive forces. Then again, you get insane ejector twice in a row with a twisted airtime hill and another airtime hill. Both these moments feel like you’re riding a buckin’ bronco. Once you hit your seat your upside down in the best zero-g-roll (corked roll) I’ve experienced. You feel weightless without getting dragged out of your seat. It’s a refreshing element before all hell breaks loose. This fabled section of track compares to no other. Your thighs grimace and prepare for Lucifer’s lash... The trick track double-up and double down. No words can describe this element. You can hear the anti-rollbacks retract and fall after every pop. The ride concludes with a underrated, low to the ground “FEAR” helix and inward banking turn, which caught me off by surprise. That element felt somewhat similar to Vengeance’s in between the first and second inversion. The unbanked turn into the brakes packs lateral forces into a somewhat perfect coaster. The extreme diversification of forces makes for a seamlessly flawless coaster. It’s short layout packs every force under the sun. I preferred the front of the train, the “hangtime” in the downward barrel roll drop felt exponentially stronger. This coaster is a MUST ride! A 10/10 ride and possibly my favourite coaster (ahead of Vengeance).

  42. I guess you should point this out to AECOM shareholders that they are producing a fake document. If you are so confident these numbers are bull**** then point that out to AECOM attorneys...I am sure they would love to hear your reasoning and methodology to discredit their report...I suspect what you will find is a slander lawsuit... This isn't like the Golden Ticket or some fan vote where it is arbitrary in awards and many have assumed/speculated/believe/know that those awards are "bought" or ballots are stuffed. AECOM is a multi-billion dollar respected global engineering firm that is publicly traded and what would be their incentive to produce a fake document - this annual report equates to less than 0.00001% of their revenue. Obviously you are not aware of generally accepted industry practices on how to determine these numbers. It is not a rocket scientist, but you are close - it is typically engineers that do this type of work. There are standardized practices in how to do this sort of thing. I would share those techniques but obviously your mind is made up. It is how engineering companies determine how many vehicles travel a road or bridge per day, traffic counts, estimates of spectators at free events, census counts, Nielson ratings, etc. Do they count every car that goes through a traffic light for a traffic study - No - but there are tried and true practices to estimate these numbers and conform to generally accepted engineering practices. Same with estimating number of people that go to an amusement park, shop at Meijer, etc. Are the numbers perfect - no - even if an individual park released annual numbers I assure you there are dozens of different methodologies you can use to develop the "number" and they used the methodology that provides the number in the best light possible. I believe that most (if not all) of the entities in these rankings are members of TEA. You mention two facts - how do you know those facts are not true - maybe these members sign confidentiality clauses with AECOM to provide per park numbers - they may - you don't know whether they do or not and a GM of an individual park probably wouldn't be privy to knowing about that clause either. I know it happens in other industries when compiling rankings. The companies listed in the Cincinnati Enquirer Top 100 Privately Owned Companies based on revenue do just that... How else is a company ranked 12th and for revenue it says DND (Did Not Disclose) - well they DND for paper publishing purposes but provided the number confidentially to the accounting firm putting together the list for the Enquirer in order to be compiled in the rankings. Maybe the companies provide a methodology for AECOM to use to determine how to split the attendance per their individual parks (ie pie chart representations from company annual report) instead of providing the actual numbers, because as an example, maybe the interpretation of the pie chart allows Magic Kingdom to be the top visited Disney park for marketing and investing purposes. Since you are alluding that I have half a brain and you have a full brain, you are then obviously aware of the different methodology techniques available to Disney to count visitors to their Lake Buena Vista parks and can utilize the methodology that puts their crown jewel Magic Kingdom at the top of their attendance should they feel the need to do so. I assure you that these publicly traded companies have an interest in these numbers being fairly accurate utilizing their counting methodology (or at least representative at selling the product they want sold) because these numbers are used by analysts in the evaluation of the profitability of each company. Are these numbers perfect, probably not, but these respective companies believe they are representative of selling their product in the best light possible and is probably a better number than you could come up with. Each company has their own methodology in counting attendance to present it the best way possible to shareholders while not lying (and it may be hard to believe but it is not as simple as a head count or gate click)...so even if each company did provide individual park numbers, there is still a variable associated with it. That much I will agree with you on. But to arbitrarily discount generally accepted engineering/industry practices with no real evidence supporting your statement I believe crosses the line.

  44. ^ If you look at what I would call a "GP" poll (from a regular news site, not a amusement park fan site like KIC, TPR, etc etc.) Beast almost always wins when the topic is "favorite Kings Island roller coaster). For example, here is a poll run before the park opened this year by Cincinnati.com... (Some people here may have voted in this and remember it- I did...) https://www.cincinnati.com/story/entertainment/2018/04/09/less-than-week-until-kings-island-opens-lets-reminisce-lets-vote-our-favorite/489217002/ Beast won, with 100+ more votes than 2nd place Diamondback. Also Flight of Fear votes were being pushed by the Premier Rides Facebook Page (no other company was pushing their rides in this poll) allowing it to get 3rd. Another poll I remember was done in 2014, before Banshee opened, and I can't confirm this 100% because the page was deleted but Beast took over 40-50% of the total votes in that poll and won as well (Diamondback was the runner-up there too). It also gets pretty long lines on even mildly busy days, in spite of being able to handle over 1,000 riders per hour (and if the park closes at 10 or later and it gets dark, the line gets even longer as people want their night rides). Even enthusiast polls rank Beast fairly highly- it's 43rd on the Coasterbuzz 100, with a average rating of 4.28 out of 5, putting it ahead of rides like SheiKra, Raptor, The Raven, and Kingda Ka. It was also in the Top 50 usually on the Mitch Hawker poll, which was VERY enthusiast-centric. These are signs that the coaster is successful, and you don't RMC coasters that don't need it, unless you want to get the huge fan backlash. (Not to mention RMC has had some issues, which would make the Backlash 10x worse if repeated) As much as I love Steel Vengeance, and want to see Kings Island get its own RMC monster, I would rather see KI build something from the ground-up than convert Beast, or Racer for that matter. I would be happy to see either of the classic woodies get some re-tracking at least though, they are both running pretty rough this season, and I don't think too much major work has been done on Beast since it got a major re-track in 2014 (I remember it felt super smooth that year). Also I don't think there will be any new coaster in 2019, as usually there are teasers, and we know Canada's Wonderland and Carowinds are both getting big new coasters, along with maybe Dorney Park as well. My guess is, for 2019, Kings Island will probably get some flat rides or something.
