People say the park has too many coasters and not enough family ride. People want the old cars back. Kings Island gives it to them and everyone complains. Can't make people happy any more. Just be glad the park is getting something new.9 points

Don't confuse the fanboys who look at all evidence to the contrary and still believe whatever they want to happen is going to happen, then get upset at the park for "leading them on", with actual enthusiasts. The former may be louder and more obnoxious but they are a very small fraction of Coaster and theme park enthusiasts. In this case, the seasoned enthusiasts tried to explain to the fanboys that their "proof" of SoB returning was just an artist at Cedar Point having a little fun putting Easter egg references to other parks in his theming posters, some wood that was added by a ride op, and several logos that are scattered around Kings Island, all of which have been there at least a year and some for several years. That SoB is a dark mark on Kings Island history. That since the entire structure has been removed (and was never as structurally sound as it would need to be) that they weren't going to make an RMC SoB (if they do eventually build a ground-up RMC, why would they continue to reference a failed ride?!) While the enthusiasts were trying to convince them to calm down and actually think about it, they did the equivalent of sticking their fingers in their ears shouting "I'm not listening!" And now, that it should be clear that sensibly this was never going to happen, they're yelling at the park for raising their expectations, and still holding out hope that next year they'll get what they want. It gets really tiring after a few years of seeing this cycle, and giving too much attention to the ridiculousness makes actual coaster enthusiasts look like idiots by association. The vast majority of coaster and theme park enthusiasts understand that it is ultimately a business, and Kings Island ideally is going to make the decisions they believe make sense from a business standpoint. The rumors last year made it very clear that a large population (not just a few so-called-enthusiasts) missed the antique cars, and bringing them back would be a popular decision with many park attendees (and not for nothing, it is a relatively inexpensive addition). I personally believe that it is also a continuation of laying the groundwork of infrastructure in Coney Mall that is leading up to a new Giga that will be around the old Dinos Alive area. I think it would make business sense for the park, and it also happens to mesh with my personal aesthetic belief that is where a Giga "belongs" if the park adds one. But, if I'm wrong, I'm certainly not going to blame the park for "getting my expectations up" with all of these Coney Mall improvements. I'm happy to see the improvements for their own sake.9 points

Is it wrong that I was hoping for 2 sets of 'Tiques and for them to replace Backlot?? Oh well. Count me in the absolutely thrilled and satisfied camp. My only hope/concern is that the track layout will be very twisty and contain a plethora of trees, bushes, bridges, tunnels, and water features. I really don't want concrete slabs for days.6 points

Hey now, (It had been raining since park open, so please excuse the hair) I don't know if the ultimate vehicles may be electric (although certain word choice during the announcement led us to believe they will be gas) but this one definitely was not. I was a little worried we all were going to be asphyxiated from them driving it in an enclosed space. Could certainly smell it, and I wasn't super-close. (Oh, and note from my pic that someone at KI seems to have a good sense of humor about those who took a little Easter egg on a theming poster at Cedar Point and blew it into such a mountain that the local news picked it up. Number 5 is alive, indeed!)6 points

^ Retweet! I may be a huge coaster fan but I am still excited about the antique cars! Not every new addition to the park has to be a coaster, especially since Kings Island already has 15 of them. We must be patient. In the meantime, sit back, relax, and enjoy the ride...on our new antique cars!5 points

The thrill seekers did this to themselves not the park. They hyped themselves up over some posters at Cedar Point with easter eggs of other Cedar Fair Parks. Why would Cedar Point advertise a ride for Kings Island, but not Kings Island themselves? If there was a roller coaster for next year, we would’ve seen construction start at the beginning of the year. There would’ve been a construction fence with teaser posters all over like Diamondback, Banshee, and Mystic Timbers. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

^ which is also why "Controlled center guide rail slip clutch steering prevents abuse" The cars don't say "Do Not Bump" for no reason. It's always been a sort of goal for some riders. Once you're too old to get excited about being able to drive at 5 mph, one starts looking for other forms of entertainment...5 points

Now if we can get a Lost River dark water-ride, my KI dream Park would be nearly completed! Put the river back into Rivertown!5 points

I just want to say that the whole Son of Beast comeback thing is dead and buried. There's a tombstone in the Banshee queue line. Done. Pay your respects, and move on. The park is never gonna go there again.5 points

And this gives another ride that can operate during winterfest5 points

They were the ones that started this outrageous rumor. So the reporter was correct. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Nah, my days of bumping cars are over. If I want whiplash Vortex is just across the midway. I am sure the park is well aware that when it comes to adolescent boys and cars their primary goal is to crash them. Always has been and always will be.4 points

I don’t know, I am really concerned about the pacing of this new ride. Especially the 2nd half.4 points

Bridge and fountain feature was mentioned. @pianoman will have more Fountain ERT options.4 points

Which is what makes nice memories for the whole family...I still have mine from the original ones.3 points

I can’t wait to see the Antique Cars used for Haunt and Winterfest! I think it’s a great move on KIs part. It’s entertainment for all ages!3 points

The cars are customizable according to the manufacturer. However the announcement said 2/3 scale replicas of Model T’s if that helps.3 points

This x1,000,000. Whenever I see speculation of resurrecting either SOB or Flight Commander I roll my eyes. Those two rides will forever be linked with actual* deaths or injuries. There is absolutely no benefit to the park in labeling something new with those monikers. I also think it's hilarious how much "hmmm, 24 hours isn't a lot of time to build hype for a massive roller coaster announcement, PR is really dropping the ball on what's obviously an RMC SOB Giga announcement" became "OMG, I can't believe the announcement I said wasn't hyped enough turned out to not be the thing I said wasn't hyped enough." I mean, c'mon, 24 hours lead time was exactly the sort of advance notice you'd expect for something like the 'tiques return. That said, I also won't be surprised to see site work begin on something big for 2020 concurrently with building the new 'tiques along with some general sprucing up of that end of Coney. To me, that would fit totally in with CF's style of general area improvements that tend to happen with the opening of a new ride. *The Bat is a different case. It was an ambitious but failed experiment whose DNA as a suspended Arrow really does live in the current Top Gun/Flight Deck/Bat. While there are some urban legends out there about "my cousin's boyfriend saw..." related to the original Bat (because those exist for every amusement park ride), that's not in the same ballpark as what actually happened on SOB and Flight Commander.3 points

I also can't help but wonder how many of the people demanding Son of Beast's return actually rode the thing. I'm sure someone will reply to this with "it wasn't that bad," but I don't think you all understand how rough of a ride it was. To many, it was literally the baseline comparison for how rough a wooden coaster could be. Beast and Racer never had anything on it. In rougher years, more hyperbolic members would say that both were approaching Son of Beast's roughness, but I sincerely can't think of a time when anyone ever accused either of being rougher. I've ridden something in the neighborhood of 290-something coasters, and the only rides that have ever come close to that experience for me were Boardwalk Bullet and Gwazi. Everything up to the first drop after the lift was good. Everything after somehow managed to make meandering airtime- and lateral-lessly into a painful experience. Based on how many "[Relative] of Beast" comments float around each time a new ride gets built, I can't help but feel like many are more attached to the name and marketing than the ride itself.3 points

Watching the local AM news, in 15 minutes I have seen 4 KI commercials--all focused on different aspects. Kids, water park, stunt show and Mystic Timbers. They are throwing it all in to drive attendance I reckon.3 points

They started cutting down trees in very late 2007 for Diamondback. If it’s a 2020 deal we may see something as early as this year.3 points

I was also kind of disappointed that they didn’t have the prices. I’m very curious...3 points

I am just going by that price sheet you posted (the one without any prices. ). Electrics would just sound like golf carts. Where is the fun in that? Also note the electrics have a separate brake pedal.3 points

As to whether they’re gas or electric, the manufacturer offers both: http://www.gouldmanufacturing.com/autoprices.html3 points

Even though I am a coaster enthusiast, I do enjoy antique car rides. I have ridden Cedar Point’s and Darien Lake’s antique cars, so I am glad to hear that next year I will not need to go as far to drive an old-fashioned car! It’s been a while since Vortex, WindSeeker and Shake Rattle & Roll have seen a new neighbor *cough* R.I.P. Dinos *cough* so I am excited to see (and experience) this new addition! Edited to add: One of the few rides my mom is willing to ride is antique cars, and they are a great ride that we always enjoy together. Looks like Kings Mills Antique Autos will join Scrambler and the Grand Carousel on the short list of rides my mom and I enjoy riding together!3 points

I don't think this was the case. i believe it's an issue with his work not wanting him to have a presence online. He had mentioned a day when he might not be allowed to post on here long before he actually left. Someone knows...3 points

It's also a good addition for Winterfest. Another ride to add.3 points

For the record, Southern Yellow Pine is not unique to Son of Beast. Most Great Coaster rides are built with it too, including Mystic Timbers.3 points

I’m excited for the new ride! It should be a new highlight of Coney Mall, and one of my personal favorites! However, I’m a bit disappointed by how the media treated this outside the park. The story that SOB V2 was being created severely hampered the public’s views on the new ride. It, NEVER, EVER should have resulted in this:3 points
-
If you were mislead, its of your own doing. The park never put those fliers up, nor did they comment or react to speculation. All the "teasing" was perpetuated by fanboys (and girls) not KI.3 points
-
Why is any of this relevant to the Kings Mills Antique Rides? Wait, it's not. Your opinions, too. It's a lot more space when you go by it in person. Even if they keep the KillMart building.2 points

I think from the wording that Mike Koontz said, it being 'alongside The Racer and across the Jutebox Diner', sounds like it being just on one side of The Racer. I wonder how much land though? That whole side from Dinosaurs Alive entrance to where the empty building that's only used for Halloween Haunt possibly? If so they have plenty of room, and that'll be a good sized Antique Car ride. I hope we'll see some drawings soon of what it will look like.2 points

I like this addition. Antique Cars really aren't my thing, though if this set has nice scenery added that could be a different story, but this will be a great ride for older people and kids outside Planet Snoopy. The removal of the original cars in 2004 was one of Paramount's biggest mistakes, and it seems Cedar Fair wants to fix and undo as many of Paramount's mistakes as they can. If they are putting ALL of it on one side of Racer though, that is gonna be pretty cramped, I would think. I was kinda hoping Racer would get a re-track and stuff though, which I guess it still can (they wouldn't really need to even announce that) but I'll still ride it as it is for now. I never really bought into "ZOMG SON O' BEAST IS RETURNING!!!" because that was based on 1 poster at Cedar Point (WTF why would they even tease a new KI ride there and not at KI!?!?) and some Son of Beast logo symbols Mystic Timbers has had since 2017. Kings Island does not tease new coasters that way. Now, if a big construction fence pops up, there is actual land clearing, and there are posters on said fence (if the "leaked" documents are true, we may see this next year) then you probably have a new coaster coming. This is how Diamondback, Banshee, and Mystic Timbers all were.2 points

KI has the longest wooden coaster in the world, the longest inverted coaster in the world, one of the top rated hyper coasters in the world, one of the tallest Drop Towers in the world, and an assortment of other rides. Its not like KI has dropped off the map, so I don't understand this line of thought that the park needs something to put them 'on the map' when they're securely on said map. Some of the rides you mentioned as being mediocre are rides that the GP laps up (trust me, they love Diamondback and Banshee, though I will agree with you on their viewing of Firehawk). Mystic Timbers may not have had the same draw, but they obviously like it a lot regardless of how it came off. Yes, the chain saw some drop in attendance, but in going with what @stashua123 has previously brought up, the park was bound for a drop after some pretty steady growth. The ups come with the downs. I still trust KI and CF management to still be successful regardless of those ailments.2 points

Anyone notice the little Easter Egg when they played the Partridge Family theme song?2 points

Obviously, you're aren't thinking. Cedar Point is a Destination. They have multiple resorts. They have a beach. Income is much better. We just got Mystic Timbers.2 points
-
I feel bad for the people who actually thought a coaster was coming to KI in 2019. There was literally ZERO evidence that a coaster was coming. No footings, no major land clearings, etc. Sure there were posters up teasing Adventure Express and Son of Beast but there were also posters all across the chain concerning multiple coasters as well. If you were truly expecting a new coaster off of two random posters and no clear construction evidence then that is on you. I for one am glad the Antique Cars are back and my kiddos will love having another fun ride to get on when we visit next year!2 points
-
Friendly reminder: Kings Dominion, a pretty comparable park to ours, went 8 years without a new coaster prior to this year. 8 years. It could be a lot worse.2 points
-
Complaining about a park you like not building a coaster is the epitome of a first world problem. Theme Parks are a luxury and when you buy a season pass, they owe you nothing other than admission. If you don't like what they add, don't visit. Don't act like you were somehow lied to or betrayed because an amusement park didn't build what you wanted.2 points
-
We all can't be happy I guess. As a father, I am very encouraged to see these finally return! A past poster would be preaching patience at this point. Good things come with time. And as always, look at what they do, not what they say! Lord I miss the Interpreter!2 points
