  1. Wait. Adding trees? Who are we, Disney??

  2. The problem with doing things like this on rides is the safety factor. It would be very difficult to have scareactors in the shed and still maintain ride safety.

  3. I think something that needs to change is the gap between rides and haunted houses. I remember when the train, antique cars, and the late Phantom Theater were all haunted attractions. I wouldn't mind if they sacrificed their weakest haunt maze to bring these back and have scare-actors throughout the rides. Heck I wouldn't mind if they changed the shed to have haunt jump-scares.

  4. Don’t want to hijack your thread, but I figured this was the best place to post this: A pretty cool look at Knott’s!

  5. I'm sorry but I really disagree, I absolutely love Haunt and was blown away last year. I had thought Halloweekends at CP would surpass KI, but I feel ki blows them away. I personally am glad they took the skeleton key rooms out. We have a very limited budget and never could afford fright lane and seeing people get to see different things than I could just because they have more money just really bothered me. I know I'm the minority on this topic but it always just made me feel like I was missing out.

  6. Every once and a while you see myself or other creative users post theming ideas and unique concepts on different threads, so I thought I'd create a thread for everyone to share their KI concept art

  7. From a GP perspective, imagine a coaster that's as tall, if not taller, than the Eiffel Tower. People would go nuts.

  9. Word is that ours will be edgier. I do not know what that means. Hopefully you’re right and it’s pretty much nothing like that clip. The last two shows (sans Skeleton Crew) were produced in house. Both were a different take and told a story. This is a cookie cutter corporate show. Everyone say it with me: Budget Cuts.

  11. Jeff Siebert was such a class act. For those who don't know, he is now the President and GM of Six Flags Fiesta Texas. ...also... notice how carefully he was saying, "Nick or Treat." That name didn't last.

  12. Rides have lock out areas, that employees, guests, etc are not supposed to be in. I am not familiar with Mystic Timbers, but I would assume that the Shed is one of these areas. I'm not sure what the rules on Route 666 were when it was open, but I wouldn't be surprised to see it return with Tiques next year.

  13. I imagine all it would take to theme the shed out nicely is have a some fake blood dripping down on the riders.

  14. ^ The actors also didn't interact with the train until it stopped moving and had quite a bit more space to stay back from it until it stopped. A more accurate comparison would be Boo Blasters, which had Haunt actors for a few seasons. The actors also wore harnesses that kept them from getting too close the cars. Even then, many of them had more room to move than what's available in the shed.

  17. Potato buns? They do fries, and they do them well. I'd be happy if they just take the chicken off the menu, and start offering cheese fries as their offering to the meal plan.

  19. Can we rename this thread “Realistic Kings Island Concept Art”? I like your idea. It would be nice if they showed some love to the train next instead of treating it as a form of transportation to Soak City. Maybe I just have a higher expectation since I grew up with so much more in that area. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  20. I doubt it will come THAT far out onto the midway. I can see it being at a slight angle with the midway directing flow both towards Vortex/windseeeker and down towards BLSC. I think they also said the drink stand between Mt. FC and killmart is going to be gone.

  21. That's how I first remember it. Riding the Zodiac, you could hear the disco music coming from the Coney Disco. Anytime I hear certain disco songs now that they played there, I think of the awesome Zodiac.

  22. I think Vortex still feels a nice niche at the park. It is nice to look at and it is a great people eater. While not the smoothest ride I would take it any day over something like Invertigo. As far as BLSC goes, I still really enjoy the ride but after riding Verbolten this summer I would love to see BLSC get a re-theme that fits in with the area a little better.

  23. Hard to believe that Peach Basket was just operating yesterday. They're moving fast, possibly to look out for winter weather to avoid delays.

  24. I would kill for a Haunt show a cut above the rest. The clip of Haunted Homecoming posted on here from another park, really left me unimpressed. Change for the sake of change isn't always good. I'm hoping it will be different, or even just better music than the other park. If not just bring back Hot Blooded. I so wish, and exptressed to the park to bring back an Ed Alonso level show. It was great. I want a show like that or the former Elvira show @ Knotts, Midnight Syndicate, ect.

  26. I agree that haunt has been declining, I think its the competition from area attractions like USS Nightmare, Land of Illusion, and Dent School House.

  27. Nope. They should focus on enhancing what they currently serve before adding new menu items.

  28. Fun Fact, Kings Island's #12 locomotive had a nearly identical locomotive made in 1972 for Lakeside Amusement Park located in Salem, VA. This locomotive was later bought by Busch Gardens Williamsburg in the 90s and received a huge overhaul to where its not even recognizable to its original design. https://www.facebook.com/Fireup611/posts/did-you-know-that-611-is-not-the-only-roanoke-area-steam-locomotive-still-in-ope/830368660471477/

  30. @PKIVortex took the words out of my mouth! Not every coaster is glass smooth, but I think that is a good thing. A lot of wooden coasters (at least if they're not Mystic Timbers) are not totally smooth but a lot of people enjoy them. The Beast makes a great example of that. A coaster does not have to be totally rattle- or roughness-free to be a good ride (though they may not be as comfortable). We all have our opinions. Vortex may not offer the smoothest ride, but it still has a solid spot in KI's lineup (and the hearts of many, including mine), has the historical significance AND a lot of people still enjoy it today (including myself). After all, it has withstood the test of time for 31 years and counting, whether you like it or not. B&Ms definitely deserve their rave reviews. However, they would not have come to be if it weren't for the technological advancements and breakthroughs through the tireless efforts of Schwartzkopf, Arrow, Vekoma and numerous other manufacturers. Nowadays, many overlook the historical significance of coasters like Vortex and how they were state-of-the-art for their time. But that does not mean no one appreciates them anymore. I love Diamondback, but Vortex has my heart. <3 -BFF, a proud Arrow fan.

  32. I attended both FearFest and Winterfest in 2005. I actually attended Winterfest about four times that year. There was a lot more to do with this past year`s Winterfest than there was in the 2005 version. Although, I did prefer the train ride with its live entertainment package better in 2005 than the 12 days of Christmas lights that Winterfest had in 2017.

  33. I think the love for SOB come not from the ride itself, but from the idea of the idea. SOB was a ride that tried to do something very ambitious ( a looping wooden hypercoaster for Gods sake!). It was something unique and special, even if in reality it was a terrible ride. There has never been another coaster to match the pure ambition of SOB. Rides like Diamondback and Banshee are great rides, and are among the best (if not the best) in their respective families. Any enthusiast who lists the best inverts or best hypers will include these rides in their top 10. As good as these rides are, there is no ambition in them, and there is nothing to make them really stand out as a landmark attraction. In KI's history, there have been several hugely ambition projects. Some of them have worked out, other not so much. The Racer was honestly a risk when it was built, but its legacy is the second golden are of roller coasters. The original bat was a risk that failed, but its legacy is seen on every coaster that does not sit on the top of the track. The Beast, when it was built, was by far the most ambitious roller coaster ever built, and its success has had an unmeasurable impact on the coaster industry as a whole. SOB was not a good ride, but it was a true spiritual successor to The Beast. It tried something that was beyond the scope of what had been viewed as possible before. When people ask for SOB to return, they are not asking for a return of the rough, painful, and arguably boring ride that the SOB actually was, they are asking for KI to once again attempt to do something that pushes the limits and cannot be found anywhere else. Right now, the only experience that you can have at KI that cannot be replicated elsewhere is The Beast. Sure, Banshee is the longest invert, and Diamondback is the only one with a splashdown, and Mystic is an all around great ride, but these alone do not set KI apart from any other park. The "Bring back SOB" crowd is longing to make KI something special again, and not simply "just another park"

  34. Hi all! It was good seeing some of you at the media event yesterday - King's Island is really to be congratulated and thanked for a terrific event. I'll share my thoughts on MT - and will take off my rose colored Kings Island glasses to do so. Going in, I was less interested in "What's in the shed" than I was the ride leading up to it. I had hoped for a mid-sized woodie that would prove not only popular, but re-rideable. Personally, I look for certain things - air, continual speed and pacing, surprises, and comfort. I was ecstatic when MT delivered all those things. Air - it's a air-time machine. There's pop after pop after pop. I'm a back-seat rider 75% of the time on woodies - MT changed all that. It is definitely a front seat ride, and I couldn't get enough of it. Continual speed and pacing - A lot of coasters seem to reach the final breaks gasping for air, having petered out. Not MT. From the time you drop off the lift until you reach the shed, it retains it's pace: fast, fun, and thrilling. Surprises - I wasn't expecting the directional changes to be as fun as the were. Specifically - the two directional turns just before the mid-course tunnel were great! Comfort - the older I get, the less I want to feel bruised and battered, or sore. I literally woke up today expecting to have a coaster-hang-over. Instead, I woke up wishing I could go right back to the park for more. That says a great deal about the trains, track engineering and quality of the ride. Frankly, MT is the best wooden coaster in the park. It doesn't hold the legendary status of Racer or Beast, of course, but it's a coaster that people will flock to - not once-not twice - but over and over again. Its as though you took the best qualities from wooden coasters you love, and combined them. There's a vibe of Holiday World's woodies - specifically The Raven - but without the bone-jarring roughness. Finally, while I'll not speak specifically of "What's in the Shed"... I can say I wasn't disappointed - but only because I hadn't hyped it in my head. It was exactly what I had assumed it would be. Actually, I was a bit charmed by it more than I thought. Without spoiling it, I LOVE throwbacks, references and hidden nuggets in attractions. The things you see in the shed are, essentially, Kings Islands version of "Hidden Mickeys." And as someone else said, would you rather sit on a boring break run in the blazing sun, or have something fun to entertain you?

  35. I think if the park had not said a word about the shed and it was just a surprise for your first ride, I think people would LOVE it. However, since it was so central to the ride's marketing, many people will be understandably disappointed. Curb your expectations and you will enjoy the shed. Don't expect some groundbreaking thing that's going to put KI on the map. Just expect a fun little distraction from sitting on the brake run and you'll love it.

  36. GCI is known for laterals and twisted track. Their Millennium Flier trains are very comfortable. GG is known for intense riding experience. Their Timberliner trains for Voyage have yet to run for the public on that ride. INTAMIN's plug and play ride in the US, El Toro, has perhaps the strongest airtime of any US coaster. It's so smooth, many steelies are rough by comparison.
