  1. Here’s an interesting fact for today; At the innagural Fearfest, one of the attractions was a Haunt on the Eiffel Tower’s 264’ observation deck. A feature that never came to fruiting was that several of the steel decks of the flooring were going to be replaced with very transparent fiberglass, so you could see straight down the structure to the ground. Unfortunatly, the Ohio Department of Agriculture required that any modification to the “ride” be approved by the original manufacturer - Intamin AG of Zurich, Switzerland. Unfortunatly, time and red tape got the best of the idea and it was delayed. Ultimately, the entire Haunt on the tower didn’t make it to year 2 and the project never saw the light of day... and likely never will. Would have been fun, though! I’ll try to give you a historical Haunt/FF fact each day leading up to Haunt’s opening. There’s a lot you may not know.

  2. I'm sort of glad I'd make a terrible one. They couldn't be making that much money of those arcade games. I've seen one person playing those things. Can we even consider that an arcade?

  4. The first year of Fearfest used primarily mazes and props that were rented (not bought) from the failed Madison Scare Garden attraction. After the first immense success of the first year, the park decided to continue the event using both internal design and the help of some outside firms.

  5. It doesn't really help when there's a bigger gift shop right across the way. I wish KI had a store that had old, nostalgic shirts and merchandise of past rides and attractions like Cedar Point does. If they sold Screaming Demon or Phantom Theater retro shirts I'm sure nerds and old time riders would buy them.

  7. New restraints (like vest restraints seen on newer B&Ms or even those seen on Vekoma's MK-1212 trains) at the very least would help, should any such changes eventually be made to Vortex. The restraints are what's causing the headbanging/headaches. I myself as a seasoned Vortex rider often feel my head tapping the restraint every now and then. I pity those who have had to endure more that just a few taps while braving Kings Island's oldest looping coaster...and as much as I like Vortex the way it is, I would definitely be all for seeing any possible improvements!

  8. ^Can you blame them, though? No need to reinvent the wheel. Best practices are best practices. And the food service is miles ahead of the large competitor in Mason.

  9. I believe this is the company, is it not? https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sudden_Impact!_Entertainment_Company Some of the attraction titles sound like some of the mazes at FearFest back in the day.

  10. They were running three trains Sunday. What an incredible ride. Talk about making lemonade out of a lemon... Made me a bit sad riding it, though...wish the timing for a certain coaster in Kings Mills would have been a little different.

  11. I do not know the number of riders Firehawk gets but just because there is a long line doesn't mean its a popular ride. The capacity on that ride is horrible.

  12. Some of the shops on International Street has some retro shirts. I bought my mom a King Cobra shirt from one of them two years ago and I remember seeing some this year too.

  14. I really like this idea. I still think they should have the old Banshee gift shop turn into a SoB and Banshee mini museum.

  15. To note, the earlier PTC trains were not designed to run backwards, the later versions had the ability to run backwards from the factory. Let's hear it from Mike himself...

  16. You scoff at people having a skill/interest and spending the time doing something they presumably enjoy? The concept looks great. I'd love a Sky Ride down the mall, and I'm digging the new paint scheme on Monster.

  17. I can’t comment on the parts issue as I have no idea If Vekoma supplies parts or not. However Firehawk is still a popular ride and rarely a walk on unlike several other coasters in the park.

  18. The 4D Free Spin option isn't something RMC makes. That is S&S or Intamin.

  19. I would love to see the station reused. It’s one of the most themed stations in the park. I could see the first drop of this coaster following Votex’s current path, falling deeper into the ravine into a tunnel, circling under the midway, coming out of the ground and arching over the midway, back into the main ride area and continually using the ravine base. Heck make it with 7 inversions.... that would be a world record for dive coasters right?

  25. People expect woodies to be rough and bang you up a bit, they don’t expect the same from steel. I realize many still love old classics like Vortex and Corkscrew but one also has to consider the Guest experience of the general public that are not in the know about how painful and potentially best day ever enders these rides can be. Vortex totaly ruined one of our trips and last weekend Corkscrew did the same to some friends of ours that despite being warned got on it anyway becuase it was the only coaster without a big line. They were done after that and went back to the hotel to recover. Thus not spending anymore money in the park.

  26. Welcome to KIC! Try searching this forum; many people have created similar threads to this in the past, and those threads contain a lot of helpful information for people like you. Being a 5'6", 165-pound guy, I can't really help you with specific advice, but can offer a general thought: Some rides (Diamondback, Delirium, and Banshee) have test seats at the entrance that you can try before getting in line. On all other rides, you can go up the exit and ask a ride op to test fit a seat before getting in line. Many people do not know that this is an option, but it is stated to be available in the Guest Assistance Guide here: https://www.visitkingsisland.com/help/rider-height-safety

  27. As far as rides leaving... I could see Congo Falls. Kind of a simple/boring/pointless ride. Would have been good if Banshee could have taken some of that road 'frontage.' The Bat could be refreshed 'big league' for the cost of new -floorless- trains. Not sure what all is involved in that but it would provide an awesome new experience for a 24 year old coaster. And yet... I see an end in site for Boo Blasters. They tend to not like keeping the theming operable anyway.

  29. I haven't posted here in quite some time, but the misinformation I have read today is appalling to me! (Someone actually claimed that the seven people who suffered minor injuries on Shoot The Rapids were "nearly killed"..SMH) According to rcdb, Intamin currently has 9 coasters listed as "Under Construction." If that is a "grim" future, what does that say about B&M that only has 7?

  30. If you don't like Intamin, just wait until 2:00 p.m. when that B&M invert that had a two-hour wait when you entered the park at opening is a walk-on!

  31. On this site, that would be Intamin's fault!

  33. Because speculating over an unverifiable claim that Intamin track was seen barreling down I-71 was old and busted and this is the new hotness. Don't know if its relevant but I saw some green coaster track the other day round Wilmington. It will be relevant just as soon as we clarify that you are not simply an extension of the Big Sexy and Ron gang. Back in 2007, there was actually video of Intamin track on I71!

  34. Why, oh why, must a discussion about a ride that is not going to be built by Intamin lead to so much Intamin-bashing? -- Beatle, who is very interested in what CP will be adding and who enjoys many Intamin rides.

  35. A seasonal park is just that... its open in accordance to the seasons of the year. KI, CP, WoF, etc etc etc are all seasonal parks because they close for part of the year, during the winter. On the other side of the spectrum, Disney parks are Destination Parks that stay open year round, due to the weather during the winter months being much more conducive to outdoor enjoyment. I would also assume Busch Gardens Tampa is also open year round, but am not positive.

  36. I prefer Intamins to B&M's... IMHO, B&M builds overly smooth coasters that are in no way thrilling or scary. But the point of my post was that Intamin is in no way "harmful," as claimed by the poster who I quoted.

  37. If you feel that Intamin is a "harmful manufacturer," I assume you do not ride Drop Tower or view KI from atop the Eiffel Tower....

  39. To quote the old saying that I often said to my children, "You get what you get, and you don't throw a fit." I have always loved KI, and any ride they add will not change that! But, on my recent vacation, I felt that KI somehow seemed incomplete without an Intamin.

  40. ^ Unfortunately, Krystl will not be in Blood Drums this year (I chatted with her on Facebook). I had to check when the KI website listed the show as "Get ready for an explosive apocalyptic blend of high-energy percussion, music, blood, rhythms and sparks!" Not sure if the rest of the crew is back, as I have not been able to get a hold of them, but I do plan to watch at least one show everytime I am there!
