  1. Kings Island once again will be hosting Coasterstock on May 17-18th in 2019. Be on the lookout for tickets sales and event details later in January to join this once a year celebration with Kings Island. Tickets for Coasterstock 2019 go on sale February 1. Keep in mind, if you're not a member of a coaster club, you'll need to join a club first and have your membership card before you buy a ticket. The registration form this year will require the club/organization membership number. Be diligent in filling out your info and make sure it is accurate before submitting. KICentral is very excited about another year of Coasterstock for friendship, coasters, food, guest speakers, tours, and of course ERT! Tell us what you like most about Coasterstock in this thread!

  2. They could sell some of the old roller coaster parts in the shops that would end up in the landfill otherwise. They could also offer valet parking.

  3. One of the things I would like to see the park do is add a bigger selection of shirts at the park. CP has a shirt option for every big coaster. I would like to see that come to KI as well.

  4. To go back to the original topic I would like to see two things come out of VR. One being a filter where you feel like you're flying along with bats during the ride. The second one being a more detailed, original story that fits the ride theme of The Bat.

  5. Hello KIC members. We are happy to announce that Kings Island has greenlighted our project "Kings Island: 50 Years of Memories". We know many of you are thinking right now "Wait, Kings Island hasn't been open for 50 years?" and you are correct. In order for our project to be completed in time for the premiere in the Spring of 2022, we must get things started. Making a film can be a long tedious process. The distinction of our documentary is the backdrop will comprise of home movies provided by past employees, industry leaders, and park guests. Many of these old clips are 8mm and Super 8 film that will be restored to the highest quality possible and upscaled to current standards. This type of restoration is a long and detailed process as we go frame by frame. Kings Island is very excited about this project just as we are. We hope you will share this information with friends and family who grew up going to Kings Island. Click here to submit your home movies or photographs of Kings Island KI50Movie Facebook Page Make sure to follow our hashtag #KI50movie We will leave you with this quick presentation/teaser trailer we put together. We hope you enjoy it! https://youtu.be/bLvZEc8cxNY ***UPDATE 11/22/18 Just wanted to provide an update on the project. The film is now listed on IMDB along with the poster for the film. Click Here Our diverse team has grown to 17 wonderful and talented people. Our website is currently being built and should be up soon. www.KI50MOVIE.com We are currently working on multiple pre-production chores and finalizing our fundraising campaign. Look and listen for us on tri-state radio and television programs promoting the project over the winter. We are still in need of home movies and photos from over the years. (You must be the owner or have the rights to any submissions. Please do not submit photos or video you found on the internet) We will be announcing an open call for former employees of Kings Island in hope to start filming interviews during the summer of 2019 and 2020. (Unfortunately, current employees of Cedar Fair will not be able to be interviewed) We updated the project logo....Look at the beginning of the post

  6. I feel like more I like more individuals should read the terms of service on this site. The moderators do a good job of cleaning up threads that have been derailed and making sure that everything runs smoothly. More recently I've noticed that they've been fixing a lot of threads that have since become derailed due to arguments and posts on multiple threads by members who shal go unnamed. I feel that these threads wouldn't have needed to have been edited if said unnamed members would have just abided by the terms of service like the rest of us.

  7. @Rivertown Rider Good mention. I remember the year Banshee opened it seemed like they must of had 20 different designs for just that one coaster. Seems like they could have had at least one solid design for every other coaster. I kind of prefer the bold and simple designs myself. I feel like some of the designs miss the mark, and appear more as a concert or NASCAR tshirt more than they do as a trendy novelty tee. Speaking of designs, whoever did the KIC designs for this site really nailed it out of the park!

  8. Important to note that Von Roll Seilbahnen AG was the division of Von Roll Holding AG that produced the original Type 101 Skyrides, such as the one at Cedar Point. In 1993 that division was sold to Austrian manufacturer Doppelmayr, the company mentioned above. It’s not unreasonable to think that they could not reproduce the original Type 101 design again.

  9. I'd pay an up-charge for a super-immersive, low capacity VR ride. Along with your massage idea, a flavored oxygen bar would be pretty cool.

  10. That will ruin the ambiance and the pictures in front of the fountain. Rides have a place in their respective areas. A zip line elsewhere would be fine. I’ll take a hard pass on this idea.

  11. I think $50 for 10 passes is a fair deal. Same price as the wheel, but since you pay for 10 up front, you get choice of ride. If you buy FL for a day, you can probably get in 25-30 rides or more. So at $5 a ride vs $2-3 if you get your money’s worth out of a whole day pass seems good.
    1 point
  12. I’m not talking a pass for a whole day, I mean a 1 time use. Kind of like what they hand out at the wheel for a $5 spin, only this would be good for 1 ride on any ride. This would be for those that don’t/won’t/can’t spend money on a FL pass for a day. Would be an up front purchase that could be used a few at a time throughout the year.

  13. "Like the rest us". Do you not see your us vs them mentality? Not the best way to have a prosperous and growing community. Can you say what it is that I've done to you that has you so worked up... Did I not kiss your ring and conform to your exact Kings Island and coasters ideology? As far as the thread that got cleaned up, I was the one that asked for moderation in my own thread. There's going to be disagreements from time to time, especially when people are passionate about something. The posts that got removed were off subject and didn't add anything to the conversation. What I want to be there is still there. I like your threads and contributions to this site. Do you think you can bury the hatchet at some point? I overlooked you being the same member that saw it fit to bump the sex at Kings Island thread a couple weeks ago, because although I didn't like it, I rather have you participate than not.

  14. I'd love to see the Skyride return, either in the front of the Eiffel Tower or behind it for my choices, but it doesn't have to be there.

  15. @Phantom Theater thanks for visual. I've seen those there plenty of times now that I think of it. Considering they could slip my mind that way, I feel like there could be a better location for them to be observed without obstructing arguably the best photo op in the park. Move their location, but upgrade to bigger and grander versions is my thoughts on the subject.

  17. The Vortex is much scarier imo On Banshee you get up the hill so fast and smooth without much buildup, seconds later you're going down the first drop with adrenaline surging before you even get to the inversions. Vortex is much different. The lift hill is slower and also at a peculiar angle from the rest of the park. There's also the signature Klink you will hear coming from beneath your seat as you slowly climb the hill. You finally start feeling prepared for the plunge, but as you ascend the hill you realize just how sloped the track is at the valley before the drop. You hope the train doesn't fall off the track right then and there! Now it's not just the gravity of the train that will get you zooming, as the train is propelled down the hill adding to the butterflies in your stomach sensation. You're not out of the woods yet, there's still the inversions to come! On a hot day you hope the strong g forces of the first loop followed instantaneously by the second loop doesn't cause you to blackout. Then there's a very forceful brake run, which at times can make you think you are going to be stuck strapped into Vortex. When the ride starts up again, you go through inversions so slow you feel all of your body weight pressing against your restraint, which at that point is without a doubt the only thing keeping you on Vortex and alive.

  18. I actually did consider a trip out west next summer (SFStL, SDC and WoF) but decided a Carowinds/Kings Dominion trip would be more affordable, plus I've been wanting to hit those parks for a long time.

  20. We must like having eerily similar travel plans to each other because I'm also planning a SE trip with those parks and possibly Dollywood in addition to that. If you're planning a St Louis trip the next summer, I'm gonna get suspicious.

  21. I have doubts that they would ever install another Skyride, but this would be amazing! I love large fountains like these. They should put that fountain in, Skyride or not.

  22. In the case for building a new Skyride, from what we've seen from the park the last two seasons, it seems that a rebirth of Coney Mall is taking place. Coney Bar B Que, Kings Mills Antique Autos, new lighting packages, these are all new additions that give Coney some nice refreshing look. If a new Skyride were built to span the Coney Mall midway, I would love to see a reproduction of the European style fountain in the middle of Coney Island's Mall. In 1964, Coney Island Management made plans to expand the Mall, requiring the removal of the Wildcat. When the Swiss Skyride was built in 1965, to add more visual appeal from above, the park installed a large fountain, which I believe was designed by Charles Flatt (the designer of the Royal Fountain on International Street) in the middle of the midway near the Lost River. The ideal location for such a fountain would be near the Zephyr where the hammer game used to stand. It's a very large plot of land that could benefit greatly by a large display like that. 25. The downside to having it run the length of the area formerly known as Coney Mall is that it would decrease foot traffic slightly which could lead to decreased gaming, food and merchandise sales. I say "could" from a devil's advocate position because Cedar Point has a Skyride going down the main midway and I don't know how it affects revenues in those departments. But I am sure the company has number crunchers that would take things like that into consideration vs armchair enthusiasts like myself.

  26. When I went to Kings Island for the first time, I rode Vortex first, as it has less loops and it would get me ready for the other coasters with loops. I know that sounds silly, however, ask VortexBFForever, as she was terrified for a while of coasters that had a loop. One day (she can tell you the exact day) she rode Vortex, where she has ridden a lot of rides since on Vortex, and she will happily ride with you (she rode with me on my first ride). I really recommend starting with Vortex, as Vortex may be a headbanger at times, but VortexBFForever can help you with that. As for how scary it is, Banshee I would say is less scary, as there is a lot less movement inside the harness of Banshee. Vortex still is a ton of fun, where it does prepare you for Banshee, and I recommend starting with Vortex. Welcome to KIC! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  27. I remember seeing the Coney Mall refurbishment over on Youtube that went over the Coney Mall midway (which i loved) and would really wish to see that installed. I mean I would really like to see if the basketball game and rope climb games would be good from an income stand point. if those two locations where removed, you could possibly easily fit a skyride entrance there and work it down through Coney Mall. The Other entrance/exit could be located near WindSeeker and Vortex behind/next to / near WindSeekers evacuation platforms. An interview wiith the Disney SkyRide Manufacturer, Doppelmayr: and said Coney Mall video:

  28. Well sure, if you’re going to bring logic into the conversation it’s not possible. (But if the park operates like it does where I work, logic very rarely comes into play.)

  29. They could expand the meal plan with small up charges for anything not included. How about 1 time use Fast Lane? Buy a pack of 10 for like $50-70 and use as you wish.

  30. They should make the whole area Octoberfest/Black Forest. Action Zone doesn't have the shade or ambiance as it stands, but that could be changed. I'd love to see Drop Tower painted with Bavarian diamonds like a gigantic maypole.

  32. I'm a bit indecisive about that, mostly because of the accident in 1977. However, Skyrides work at other parks, such as Cedar Point and California's Great America. The thing is, though, I can't think of a modern manufacturer that builds Skyrides anymore other that Von Roll, which is out of business. If a new Skyride were built, it would be cool to see it over Coney Mall, start in Oktoberfest around where the Tumble Bug used to be, past The Racer and end over near Kings Mills Antique Autos. It would help make Coney Mall look a little more like the old Coney Island.

  33. I think a new coaster is a good idea, but I think the park would benefit more if the added another new family ride (such as a new Ferris wheel of a resurrected sky-ride).

  34. Very Steep. Per measure map, the front edge of the fountains is 500’ to the base of the tower. Pythagorean theorem makes the hypotenuse length somewhere close to 584’ using 300’ of height. Throwing 300 & 500 into rise/run calculator makes the angle somewhere around 31 degrees. Percentage grade is 60%. Considering interstates in WV/VA/NC/SC, have steep grade signs for 3-5% grades, tells the story to such a setup. Even at 50’ of height, the grade is still 10% or 5.7 degrees. Hypotenuse is 502’. Max recommended slope on a zip line is 3% for natural braking, max 6% with bungee brakes installed.

  39. I’ve been torn having been to both, but this year with the “step up” at ki winterfest, I think we may have edged out Dollywood. Hate to say it but even with their glacier ridge addition (which feel VERY Kings Island and slightly out of step with the feel of the rest of the park) KI just has more kinetic energy and “spectacle” no one beats Hershend in the way the apply lights to buildings (crazy anal detail) but there’s just a “big ness” here. Different parks and different moods, but you can’t not smile when you walk in to KI

  40. I reamed your thread to "Future of theme parks on USA today." I thought USA today was in trouble with the first title. I would love to see KI get a new dark ride experience with some of the new technology out!

  41. This should be a major priority. There needs to be an increased amount of Gemütlichkeit throughout the entire area. With more mature trees and shade, this is totally doable. As mentioned, re-Germanize the Festhaus and lakeside beer garden. More German food options. Roving bands..at very least German music on the speakers. Sling Shot can go-and use the area behind it. Oktoberfest should be a refuge where you can relax either in the shade or in the AC of the Festhaus and grab a bite and a beer and enjoy some music in a comfortable, beautiful setting. I'd turn the food and beer operations of Festhaus and the beer garden totally over to Hoffbrahaus if they'd do it.

  43. I am not unpatriotic...but I hate the flag poles at the foot of the fountain. When taking a group photo all you have are silver bars obscuring The Eiffel Tower. I also say bring on the trees...I love sitting in the shade while I watch the fountain!

  44. WinterFest was a return to the "old" KI for me last year, with a current day twist. I think the park is adding in nostalgic treats for us old school folks and look forward to seeing what they have planned down the road. International Street was absolutely the most incredible thing I have seen at Kings Island. When the lighting ceremony counts down, it actually feels like the buildings are beaming with pride and dancing. It really is electric.

  45. The KIC community has changed a lot over the six years I have been a member here. Lately I have really missed seeing my original KIC friends (namely @Beastie1980, @ohiocolts, @Fire-Beast-OF FEAR, @Princess Sparkles, @LoraX, @Original and a few others whom I'm probably forgetting at the moment) post on here. They used to post here a lot and now I hardly see them anymore. I miss them. Thankfully there ARE friends who DO continue to post here, and I definitely appreciate that! @IndyGuy4KI, thank you for posting about the feedback. I would agree about the negative stuff seen on here. KIC isn't perfect nor will it ever be, but I would hate for it to come across as unwelcoming to any new members. I greatly enjoy seeing all the different (and sometimes controversial) opinions expressed here and I hope we as a community continue to help facilitate an environment where all of us can express our honest opinions without the fear of being shot down. Also: I know all of us feel like complaining every now and then; I pity the members who have had negative experiences, whether on here or at the park, but it also tends to kill the mood. I have been guilty of complaining too and I am doing my best to avoid complaining on here as much as I can. I still enjoy KIC after six years, even with its ups and downs!

  46. We want to thank everyone who participated in the survey. We had over 90 submissions. We got some great feedback and are already starting to look into implementing some of them. The biggest item seems to be a better mobile experience. We do agree with that wholeheartedly, the forum software we use now just has not done a great job in updating the mobile side. We are looking at our options. We also want to share some of the survey results with the members of the site. Most of the data was very positive. We feel that sharing some of the "reality" results that we as admin really cant not control to much is the best course of action to improve these survey comments. Feedback on why people are not visiting and rarely posting: Too much complaining. Members not being welcoming, and sometimes combative. We used to have much deeper posts and discussions, and on a much more frequent level. Too many “forceful” opinions. It seems that some people are fanatics and tend to correct and over correct people on the site. Some members are not pleasant to others for no apparent reason. Opinions are shot down and small mistakes are turned into huge things. I personally feel KIC is more welcoming than most other forum sites. Overall this was really not a big amount of negative feedback, but we feel all members needed to see this data. Please keep this in mind when posting and remember that emotions are not transferred on the forums. We hope sharing this feedback will help make KIC better for all of its members. Feel free to contact us if you have questions!
