  1. Diversion no. Enthusiasts created the "confusion" not the park. The park was just using Outpost 5 as theming. The logo has been around for years.

  2. I’m refering to the suspected B&M project that was discovered in documentation that has been posted on this site. By stating that a Dive Machine could be the next new project after “the Giga” infers that the upcoming B&M project has been confirmed to be a Giga. In reality, that’s only speculation at this point. Nothing has been confirmed about the type of coaster that could be installed aside from the documents stating that B&M will be involved. Could it be a Giga? It sure could. It could also be a Dive Machine or Wing Coaster for all we know. There has been plenty of speculation over the years on this site that will always lead to some disappointment amongst the enthusiast community. Just recently, a select few thought the park was going to spend $20,000,000 + to rebuild the failed Son of Beast because of Halloween decorations at another park. That was not the case. While there has been a lot of speculation about a Giga headed our way (alongside some impressive concepts and renderings), there’s nothing that points to it directly. It’s silly to make assumptions when none of us(or very few silent members of this site) really know what’s coming next. The assumptions about a Giga being “for sure” always give me a chuckle. That’s all.

  3. One of my fondest memories of Kings Island was going to Festhaus when I was about 14 or 15 and eating some kind of German sandwich! They had waitresses walking around wearing traditional German clothing and serving huge mugs of beer. Just an awesome experience, especially for a kid from Eastern Kentucky who had never been exposed to anything like that.

  5. Just soaking in the sights is the main thing to do...it is quite an experience. I had to ride Mystic Timbers just to say that I had ridden it in December...and in the cold, but other that & the train I wouldn’t worry about any of the rides. (Although do go into the entrance to Flight Of Cheer and check out the posters...they are fun!) I love taking family photos...and the park has gone above and beyond providing great photo ops. It amazed me how many that there are this year. Have fun!

  7. I can see if it used the old Son of Beast station it being relevant. That doesn't seem likely to me with Banshee over there. The only other thing I can think of is the possible Giga having a single loop. If that becomes reality I will be jumping for joy and fist pumping at the same time. Can't say I blame the public. I was shown it by someone and almost believed it for a minute since I had been out of the coaster loop for a bit. I got on here and saw there was no thread about it so I knew it wasn't real. Seems like shooting people down about it on social media would be fun for the people that like to anoint themselves as unofficial moderators on here.

  8. There's a TON of people sharing @RuthlessAirtimes video on facebook and twitter thinking its the real deal. I've seen @chugh43 going up to bat telling people it's just a fan video

  9. The speculation is that the new giga if we get one will be some sort of recincarnation of the SoB because Outpost 5 was the SoB station. So it could be a diversion but know one knows till the official announcement

  10. It was appx 26-28 degrees when I arrived last Saturday at 4:30 is and I think it bottomed out at 24 degrees. Both coasters were running all night long everytime I went by them.

  13. I don't think a ride overlaid with VR is in the cards (Six Flags proved that the concept is clunky, at best), but a stand-alone VR game much like the Secrets of the Empire Star Wars VR experience at Disney Springs at WDW would be a nice addition. Having seen previews of the game there, I can say it's pretty awesome. It costs about $25 pp to play (there are some coupons out there, though) and it's been quite successful there. It could easily go into an existing building (the half of Boo Blasters formerly home to Carnevil, the former Action Theatre for example).

  14. It would be a huge stretch to have a wooden coaster go over 400 feet. There has yet to be a wooden hyper since SOB.

  15. And now also I've seen The Beast unleashed video going around too. I dont think GP realize these r concepts, not real announcements...

  17. First off @kingsislandfan1972, congrats on winning that contest! In terms of what to do, there is lots to do, so these are my suggestions... - Ride at least one of the two coasters open... it's surreal to be riding a coaster in December and they are both good rides (and if you do ride Flight of Cheer, pay special attention to the queue line theming). -Play some games if you want- both Arcades are open as well as some of the themed midway games (Center Ice was a blast when I played last year) -See the shows- You won't see them all in one night, but if you only have one visit, I'd reccomend Tinker's Toy Factory, Four Drummers Drumming, The Mistletones, and Charlie Brown's Christmas Spectacular (while that last one is not my personal favorite, it is a nice Broadway-style show and it's a heated building). What the Dickens is another good choice too! On a final note, the Petting Farm is now "Sounds of the Nativity", where singers intermittently sing Christmas songs. -Interact with the characters- there will be plenty of roaming characters throughout the park and you may see a familiar face or two! -Go Ice Skating- I did it last year and it was really cool. -Finally, have fun and make sure to pick up an Experience Guide at the entrance! EDIT: Also, make sure to take in all of the light displays.

  18. Yeah not only Festhaus but most the food lines and quality at Ki except for Coney BBQ the lines are crazy long, and they have 1 out of two sides open. What they should do is people that have drink and/or meal plan have a separate line for them kinda like a "fastlane" but for food type deal? lol Other than that Ki is doing a great job.

  20. There’s enough local beer and German cuisine/heritage in Cincinnati that it should not be that difficult. It’s almost like it was originally intended to serve that purpose during the park’s inception. I’ve never understood not only the misuse of Oktoberfest, but the straight up rejection the area receives. The tristate has multiple Oktoberfest’s throughout the fall. It’s something the park could take advantage of seasonally and throughout the whole operating calendar. The state of the (exterior) Festhaus is a crime against all things good. Seriously disappointing. The interior isn’t much better as far as dinning options, but that could be remedied. Coney BBQ is an example of successful food options within the park in regards to both quality and popularity. I’d love to see that applied to the Festhaus and Oktoberfest as a whole. And for god’s sake. Serve Goetta. People love Goetta. It’s German. It’s Cincinnati. Just do it. They have an entire festival dedicated to the stuff and people come out in masses for it. I’d turn the entire Hank’s Burrito Shack into a restaurant that would serve creative Goetta dishes. That would be awesome.

  21. Exactly. Most of the infrastructure is still there and that's the hard part when creating this sort of ambiance. Love to see them take advantage.

  23. Yes, but people are getting sold on that DESIGN. And that could provide some serious problems, since the public are not coaster enthusiasts, and will not realize that certain elements will terrify them as much as a parabolic airtime hill.

  26. So, I305 just got there?? The fact they said "now has a giga coaster". Gotta love the news. Even its smaller sister park, Kings Dominion in Virginia, now has a giga coaster.

  27. Paul Shortt (who also designed American Heritage Music Hall, today's Kings Island Theater) created design concepts for Festhaus and designed the building's original stage. The exterior of Festhaus was designed by Bruce D. Robinson Associates Inc. (today known as Bruce D. Robinson Design Group) of Cincinnati, Ohio.

  30. Compete with who? Once upon a time, Kings Island had no Diamondback, no Banshee, and no Mystic Timbers and they were still a highly visited park. Kings Island isn't going to shut down if a giga isn't added- there's still dozens of great parks in the US that have just recently broke 200ft in the past decade.

  31. ^ Kinda, but it was more Werewolf-like, and standing on 2 legs and "roaring". Had on a ripped up red plaid shirt if I recall (may not be 100% correct, it was 8 years ago). They had a fog machine and red lights around it as well, so it had a ominous red glow. Don't know if anyone was able to get pictures, since it was WAY back in the woods and the only way to see it would be via riding, and you can't legally take pictures while riding coasters at Kings Island. And I dunno if they did any Beast backstage tours during Haunt 2010. Also, even though it is not 100% what I saw, that pic of what Beast apparently looks like is awesome IMO.

  35. Hope you're not trying to make friends with @homestar92 I don't see Gemini leaving any time in the foreseeable future. It's a classic that help put Cedar Point on the map, and it's still a great stepping stone between small coasters and big coasters. It's also a capacity machine, important at a park that packs crowds like Cedar Point can.

  36. Success? Hmmm weird I thought they are down to 1 train operation? I would have to say B&M or even bring back Intamin ( who has the capability to go over 400). All the Intamin haters just stop lol No arguments!!

  37. Yeah. Don`t ruin the Coney Mall midway like that. Not to mention you are removing the Coney Mall Skyline! And removing some trees by the Carousel. And where did the Scrambleer go in that drawing??

  38. I'm gonna go with Son of Beast for this. The mere concept of a wooden coaster over 200+ feet tall was very interesting. However, since you are allowing modifications, I'm going to make a decent number of them because as we know the original SOB had tons of issues. First up, RCCA would not be the manufacturer for obvious reasons. Instead, the "reborn" Son of Beast would be made by Intamin as one of their pre-fabricated wooden coasters, to avoid any roughness issues (plus as a Intamin prefab it would be considered wood by most, where a RMC topper track coaster would have debaters). I thought about having a more traditional coaster builder like GG or GCI but SOB was over 200 feet tall so maintenance would probably go overboard quickly due to the ride's sheer size, so computer-laser-cut or steel topped wood would be needed. It would also be made of the highest-grade best wood possible, and have structural improvements all over to prevent the issues the original SOB had. The major change I would also make to the ride's layout would be to remove the entire rose bowl helix, since it was the main area where Son of Beast had issues, and replace it with several El Toro style airtime hills and a overbanked turn-around section. This is because, even without the major issues, since I made SOB a prefab it would also be incredibly smooth and thus the massive helix would probably be boring and forceless unless it was less banked to do laterals, and laterals on a helix that big might become annoying/painful to some riders. The 2nd helix would remain however, since it was smaller and thus COULD be modified to offer up some lateral forces. I would also, in homage to the original Beast, add a tunnel to the bottom of the 1st drop and 2 more tunnels on the now only helix. The first drop would be mostly the same but re-profiled just a bit to offer up some airtime. And the final few hills/turns would be mostly the same, but re-profiled so they would have airtime and the turns near the end would be heavily banked for more thrills. There would still be a MCBR before the loop (yes I would still feature the loop) to run 3 trains for capacity reasons. As for the trains, since this ride is purely fictional, I would instead of Intamin's trains use GCI's Millennium Flyer design due to the comfort factor and how well they track (This is based on that I have now ridden them via Mystic Timbers and love them). Like the old-but-overweight Premier Rides trains, they would be themed to search vehicles that are sent out to look for Son of Beast. Which brings me to the theming aspect of the ride. I'd keep the overall theme the same (You are employees of Outpost 5, a government base, and have been sent out to look for the captured Son of Beast in its enclosure as it has gone missing) but I'd add things like music near the entrance/que just like Mystic Timbers has, and lots of the FUN TV's in the que would be related to this theme by playing video. There would also be some on-ride audio, ala Mystic Timbers, on the lift hill where, as you near the top, someone calls into the Outpost and warns that Son of Beast is still in its containment and to send back the ride vehic (they are mysteriously interrupted in true roller coaster fashion)...then you reach the top, hear a beast roar, and the ride begins. Not 100% sure where in the park it could go however, since Banshee took up SOB's spot. Maybe extend the first drop out of the station into a long tunnel that goes under Banshee, then have the final drop do the same, and have the lift hill go behind Banshee's inversions (if the tunnel must be super long, throw some airtime hills in there for kicks)? Might make it longer than the original Beast, but eh, if it happens it happens. Anyway that's my pick, and what I'd do. Granted what I have thought up is only PART Son of Beast (with some OG Beast, El Toro, and Hades 360 elements making up the rest) and would likely be crazy expensive (but money was never an object). And due to the negative press Son of Beast got, this would also likely never happen. But it was kinda fun to imagine it.

  41. I think theme needs to be improved in the park overall. It certainly has gotten better from when Paramount ran the park but I think everybody can agree that Kings Island had its best theming when Taft operated the park. The train still had its props, rides like Phantom Theater and Adventure Express were a huge hit, and everything was more "magical." Small little changes could do the park some good. If I were to add to the theme around the park here's what I would do- I'd make the tunnel in The Bat line a cave and add audio to make it sound like there are bats around you. I bring back the props on the Kings Island & Miami Valley Railroad or at least add something for people to look at. I would retheme White Water Canyon to tie into Mystic Timbers with Mystic Timbers audio vines throughout the course of the rapids and other small touches. Small changes like this show a lot to both enthusiasts and guests at the park; it shows that Kings Island is staying fresh and putting heart into their Park.
