  1. See that floral structure in front? That used to be a fountain, at least through the mid-late 90s.

  3. (end hiatus)So just as a FYI, Hofbräuhaus has franchising opportunities that would be right up Kings Island's alley. Hofbräu Express is their quick service venue similar to what Panda Express is in the FestHaus. If Kings Island were to go with the Small Restaurant model they could just demo Hanks and rebuild it as a smaller Hofbräuhaus to fit the area and remodel the whole area to be more Germanic. (Link for those who are wondering: http://www.hofbrauhaus.us/franchise/ ) Definitely would not be opposed to loosing the Panda for the Hofbräu, just saying. (resume hiatus)

  4. I have inherited my great-grandfather's steamboat possessions. His name was Captain William Eakins and was a 4th generation steamer from Dayton, Kentucky. He worked for the Coney Island Company for several years until 1920. I attached a few photos from his album as well as a letter from when he retired. I started scanning the album and letters, and have uploaded them to here: https://imgur.com/a/EjWNO I have been looking to find somewhere in Cincinnati where I can do furthger research as there does not seem to be a whole lot of info about the first Island Queen (and the sister ships, Morning Star and Island Princess) and the crew members. My mom was working with him on a biography before he passed away, but it was never finished. I would love to be able to finish it and get it published, but would also like to try to find more info about these images as well as information not mentioned in this lot. Unfortunately, my mother passed away about 3 years ago and my uncle passed away about 6 years ago. There's only a few members of the family left alive and I would love to be able to get his story told.

  5. I'm sure the park will want to have it worked on in time for their 50th anniversary, which is also The Racer's 50th year in operation

  6. I'm sorry, but I need to put this out there: OKTOBERFEST ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE REDONE!!!!!!! Why, you might ask? Well, if you have been strolling through the area at all for about the last 10-15 years, you will have noticed that there are only three rides (none are original), its one of the smallest areas in the park, and the German theme is 95% gone. Here are some examples: https://goo.gl/images/92aTFJ https://goo.gl/images/XLTSGK https://goo.gl/images/4K6vg4 https://goo.gl/images/rSBB2v And yes, the countless other rides that used to be here (Der Spinnen Keggers, Ferris Wheel, etc) and the bands. Kings Island should bring them back. (btw this is in no way roasting or making fun of Kings Island; I am merely making a suggestion to better this area of the park)

  7. Agreed. IMO, CW has perhaps the most top-heavy coaster lineup I’ve ever seen. To be fair, any park with 13+ coasters is bound to have some filler, and KI, KD, Carowinds, HP, SFGAdv etc. are no exceptions. But CW is unmatched in this regard… To start, even Behemoth and Leviathan, which don’t get me wrong, I’m sure are great rides, have incredibly bland-looking layouts. Leviathan’s stats are underwhelming for a Giga (which is why I’m all the more glad we did not receive B&M’s first go at a 300+-footer, as Fury by most accounts was a vast improvement, and why I’m all the more optimistic that our B&M Giga will be an improvement even upon Fury’s already great design.) After that, their arguable third best coaster (sans YS) would be……………….Vortex? Now don’t get me wrong, I’m sure it’s a great ride like just our near-clone, early-90s Arrow Suspended is, but when a park has 16 coasters, and the third best thing they have to offer is that! Um, you’ve got problems… Wonder Mountain’s Guardian looks intriguing enough, but to me that’s more of a dark ride than a coaster… After that, there’s Wild Beast and MCMB, two woodies of which I’ve read middling-at-best reviews… Then there’s what are perhaps the three most infamous clone concepts ever devised in Time Warp, Flight Deck, and their Bat: A Zamperla Flyer, an SLC, and a sit-down boomerang. Three rides in which for many people the optimal amount of times ridden is zero (myself included). There’s only one coaster at KI in which I’m better off just skipping entirely, and that is Invertigo. But even then, I’ve always considered the inverted Vekoma boomerangs to at least be a full-step above the sit-down versions (even if that’s not saying much). The Fly looks decently entertaining. An interesting take on what otherwise would just be a regular wild mouse. That having said, it’s still, just a wild mouse... Thunder Run is unique, but technically not even a roller coaster as it is powered at all times (is listed as Powered Coaster on rcdb: https://rcdb.com/63.htm) Rounding out their lineup is BLSC, Silver Streak, Ghoster Coaster, and Taxi Jam, which would cancelled out by KI’s respective clones. Honestly, when it comes to determining which non-CP Cedar Fair park has the best and most complete lineup of coasters, I’d say its pretty much game over once we get that Giga. That’s all we need. It’s the last major piece of puzzle… It would put KI at 5 certifiably standout coasters, which would be more than KD’s 4, Carowinds' 4 (with Copperhead Strike), and CW’s 3(with Yukon Striker). And past that, we have one of the world’s five spaghetti-bowl clones (which no one else in the chain but KD has), a racing woodie (again, only KD has that) an Arrow Suspended (which only CP and CW have), a BLSC clone (which Carowinds does not have), one of the best mine trains, and an Arrow mega looper. If Kings Island, Cedar Fair, and B&M execute this Giga well (which I have full confidence that they will), I believe it will have quite a good chance of jumping Fury, MF, and SV all the way to #1 on the GTA Steel List…Even if you don’t take any stock in the Golden Tickets, it’s bound be the one of the best coasters in the world… But if this means anything, the mystery 2020 B&M KI is destined to receive will be the 5th coaster (including Firehawk, which has been noted many times before, cost almost as much to relocate than it would have to build ground up) that CF has given them. That is more than Carowinds’ 4 (including Carolina Cyclone) , CW’s 4, and KD’s 3 (including Dominator). Simply put, Cedar Fair wanted to acquire Kings Island like no other. And I for one believe they are treating Kings Island like no other...

  8. I'd trust B&M with any prototype. All of their first coasters of each type they've introduced performed well. They do their homework when developing rides and have a stellar track record in terms of reliability. B&M flyers do have a bit better of capacity and can also have duel loading stations like Firehawk did, but like their dive coaster cousins IMO, aren't very exciting unless KI goes for a decently large one. Superman: Ultimate Flight at NJFTP is my least favorite B&M.

  9. ^ I agree on the red coaches. Then again I am not a big fan of the color green.

  10. ^ Yeah, but those modern things are colloquially known as Edison bulbs. Typing out "those things that hipsters falsely attribute to being the same design as Thomas Edison's, those mindless lemmings" felt maybe a little pretentious.

  12. I agree with both sentiments. Cedar Point's Skywheel looks great, but I don't see many people riding it any time I am there. I think a Tilt-A-Whirl is needed at KI as well. It's a classic fun ride that families can do together. I would also add in a new dark ride to replace Boo Blasters on Boo Hill.

  13. I agree with @IndyGuy4KI. I was able to get 4 walk up rides via the single rider line on Saturday, but there was rarely more than a stair wait in the standard line. My last ride was made memorable. I was waiting to be seated and a very vocal 20ish lady came behind me and said "Ummm, you don't have to wait, like just go on in." I responded that they have a seperator who assigns seats and she proceeded to argue. I told her to be my guest and go in front of me. She bolted out. Of course the seperator made a point to get her attention to the point of going to the row she had chosen and telling her to go back to the holding area. Fortunately, at this time the next train was rolling in and I was only subjected to about a minute of "Oh my God, this is like totally stupid, I have a Fast Lane and a Gold Pass...."

  14. A lot of the Coney Mall buildings and stands are pretty outdated and ugly. I am hoping that they do more than just add the antique cars this year. A racer overhaul and some more renovated facades (Think Coney-BBQ) would be an awesome project for 2019. Candy Apple Grove looks amazing over at KD so I hope KI follows their lead.

  15. Action Zone is definitely the arm pit of the park. I feel like they did an ok job refreshing it when they got Banshee but then kinda gave up half way. Congo is completely outdated and could be replaced with a better water attraction or even some new flats/family coaster. I totally agree with the Black Forest theme, Invertigo to Demon would be awesome. I'm sure X-Base is their main focus right now but Action Zone should be a top priority.

  16. I think its more a matter of being practical to not do Fast Lane for Winterfest than anything else. Rides aren't really the main feature, thus, its not necessarily the best use of a Fast Lane program.

  17. KI's GM Mike Koontz actually at coasterstock announced that he recommended to the board of Cedar Fair to invest in a giga coaster for Kings Island so they already do realize how good of a fit a giga would be. Hopefully Cedar Fair agrees.

  18. I think it's time they switch up the entertainment in the Festhaus and move on from those decade revue shows... ..especially before they get to the Nickelback era!

  19. i agree... return the German theming to the Festhaus and ditch the stench of Panda Express. contract Hofbräuhaus to move in.

  20. I reamed your thread to "Future of theme parks on USA today." I thought USA today was in trouble with the first title. I would love to see KI get a new dark ride experience with some of the new technology out!

  22. Quick question someone might be able to answer- Why is Canada's Wonderland the "Cedar Point" of flat rides? Is Wonderland the park that they test the popularity of newer flat ride models to get gp feedback? Is it because of the coaster line up? I never understood because parks like KI, Carowinds, and others could use some Canada's Wonderland styled flats in their line up. I'm not complaining of the lack of flat installations but why have we been getting coasters and no huge flats like Soaring Timbers, Lumberjack, and so on at all?

  25. I would love a tilt a whirl and/or another set of flyers. Put one of them in the old FC pad in Coney. A ferris wheel, although pretty with an LED package, does not interest me. We have enough sight seeing rides IMO.

  27. Carolina Cyclone isn't rough in my opinion. However it's 37 years old, it's an Arrow Looper so it's not B&M smooth but far from rough. Sent from my XT1585 using Tapatalk
