  1. Much like The Beast Unleashed video I made, I just really want to see the ride use that hill behind Firehawk to reach blistering speeds, if only for a short while. Based on the topography I imported into my project from Google, with a hill around 300 feet you could use the existing terrain behind it to do a Beast style run down that hill and reach insane speeds, and still keep costs low by hugging the ground. During the first iteration of my design, I took the track all the way down to the little Miami river. With a 380 foot drop, the thing was reaching 115mph near the river. It was lunacy. It's really the perfect opportunity to break the 100mph Giga speed barrier. You use the terrain to go insanely fast, and then climb back up the hill after a turnaround, which conveniently bleeds momentum back to a more reasonable 90ish mph once you reach station height again. Both of these things keep your budget from being insane and cut track length down a bit, without demanding an aggressive midcourse brake run or impractically huge airtime hills. I will be more than satisfied if it does two things: Breaks 350 feet for first drop, and then makes a run down the hill to go even faster. If it has those two things, I'll be grateful for whatever we get.

  2. I'm just rattling off cool elements. If CF and KI are going to drop $30 milllion+, I wanna see how much bang for the buck we can get and make it look awesome.

  3. The average guest isn't following John Matterise either, nor watching the channel 9 news in general. The average guest won't be disappointed because the average guest won't even know that anything was done over the off season. The won't realize it before they ride, while they ride or after they ride; the average guest will look at their park map and wonder "what next". We are not the average guest.

  4. This has been discussed in other threads across the forums but does anyone think Action Zone will/should be expanded? The most obvious location for expansion would be the underused Timberwolf Amphitheater as well as Congo Falls and even Xtreme Skyflyer. The land is relatively flat and rides like Congo Falls and Xtreme Skyflyer could be relocated if need be. I think this would be a good location for some extra flat rides or possibly even a large scale attraction like a Dive or Wing coaster should the park ever decide to go that route.

  5. I'm not disagreeing with you, X-Base needs to grow and I think we'll be seeing that very soon. Action Zone is often crowded and sometimes its nice to have a little more room, even if it means adding some more attractions along with it.

  6. The reason is because the Little Miami River is designated as a National Wild and Scenic River.

  7. KI is in Ohio and BGW is in Virginia. Different states have different laws. HP has to deal with similar laws, hence why Great Bear has it's funky supports.

  8. I agree, I do not want vest restrains on a Giga.

  9. The Maverick restraints would be nice. Too bad its not an Intamin giga!

  11. I would think the giga coaster now would be pushing closer to $40million. Maybe they would save some on shipping since the track wouldn't have to far.

  12. I'm sorry, but I need to put this out there: OKTOBERFEST ABSOLUTELY NEEDS TO BE REDONE!!!!!!! Why, you might ask? Well, if you have been strolling through the area at all for about the last 10-15 years, you will have noticed that there are only three rides (none are original), its one of the smallest areas in the park, and the German theme is 95% gone. Here are some examples: https://goo.gl/images/92aTFJ https://goo.gl/images/XLTSGK https://goo.gl/images/4K6vg4 https://goo.gl/images/rSBB2v And yes, the countless other rides that used to be here (Der Spinnen Keggers, Ferris Wheel, etc) and the bands. Kings Island should bring them back. (btw this is in no way roasting or making fun of Kings Island; I am merely making a suggestion to better this area of the park)

  13. Sneaking into a Forgotten Disney World Ride (Epcot - Horizons) I highly recommend watching this video. It is 25 minutes long, but very much worth the time. The mini-documentary takes footage from two massive fans of Epcot's former Horizons attraction and their adventures sneaking off the ride to take a closer look at the sets full of animatronic and props. I watch a lot of YouTube videos and I must say, I have never been so entranced by one like this before. Not only is it exciting, but it is also emotional and invokes an extreme sense of nostalgia - even for me, who was not even born during the operation of Horizons. Disclaimer: I am, and the video is not, glorifying taking potentially dangerous action in walking around an operating theme park attraction; please take the story for what it is, and enjoy the ride.

  14. Name it Railgun and have the station be a big sci fi cannon thing with a launched lift hill coming out of it. Have a big LED lighting package on the track that follows the train up to the peak. train gets launched at 60mph out of the station/cannon thing and coasts to the top of the hill where it crests the first drop at a sane speed Or just do a normal lift hill and name it alien idc I just wanna go fast

  15. It definitely wouldn't be Disney or Universal level. But if they do a sci fy themed giga, they should it right and have a nice themed queue.
    1 point
  16. Yes, but they do seem to be stepping it up in theming. It would be awesome if KI and CF did something like this. Especially with the whole X base theme. It would work great alongside FOF

  17. In the exact opposite thought, that’s all minor. The biggest issue is dealing with the guests. You don’t want everyone concentrated into one area. AZ was miserable when I was younger and it had SoB and everything else jammed back there. It wasn’t comfortable or fun, because of the amount of people. It’s a much better plan to diversify your park and spread the crowd around. X-base needs the development to turn it into its own area. There are 3 coasters in AZ, 3 in Rivertown, 3 in Coney Mall, 1 in Octoberfest and 1 in X-base. You can’t expand Octoberfest, but X-base is prime for development. A nice new coaster, amenities, concessions and maybe a flat or two and you have a whole other area that’s been decidedly underdeveloped and underused since it was built.

  19. That is good to know! I didn't know if it was a federal thing or state. I am glad to see Ohio cares about the environment!

  20. I was thinking. Wouldn't it be cool to have a giant building for the queue line all the way up to the station especially for an Xbase theme. Look at how Disaster Transport used to be at Cedar Point. Yes it would be very similar to FOF, but I think it would be a nice duo where the themes could cross over. It would actually fit the name Power Force I came up with.

  21. No way is that rude. Haha we all have our own opinions! I am sure we will Never see a gigs with an inversion. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  22. Probably not. In which case I would ask for no inversions on a giga. I much prefer the comfort and open feeling provided by the standard B&M clamshell restraint across the lap.
    1 point
  23. I wonder if they can they do that without Banshee restrains?

  24. I would like to see the worlds first invert on a giga. Maybe an Immelman or Cobra roll. Haha

  25. I think they're gonna add a new section. Its been rumored for a while that they're going to add a boardwalk area reminiscent of Coney Island and other old school coasters. With the park removing their onsite dorms all attention is gonna be on that area during the 2019 season. I don't think they'll necessarily need a new coaster for their anniversary. If it were me I would focus more on appearance and drawing more families to the park- I think they have plenty of coasters to keep the enthusiasts happy for a while.

  26. Lets keep on subject. Instead of complaining about 2018, share how you think the park can improve haunt for 2019. I really loved the new area Pumpkin Eater. It would be nice to include a few new scare areas like that next year. The Coney Maul area I think would have been better if not stretched out so far. I think it should have been 1/2 as long to get the affect they were looking for there. I would also move it to the path next to Dodgems and behind BLSC. That way it is only for people that want to go through it. To me the houses is what draws the people. I think adding one new house per year is the way to go. I don't have anything else to add to improve those.

  27. Why relocate or remove rides when there is so much unused acreage owned by KI?
    1 point
  28. I wouldn't think it would pay for the park to relocate a ride as large as Congo Falls in-side the park. You might as well build a new one at that point. I would think yo could even add Invertago to the removal list.

  29. Haunt attendance will always be good, regardless of the quality of the event. I agree with @AZ Kinda Guy maybe the worst year I've attended yet.
    1 point
  30. See that’s where the issue lies with Haunt. There’s really no reason for them to invest more into the event if the numbers are doing well. But I too wish we could see Haunt on the same level as Winterfest.

  31. I think that's the perfect location for the next major expansion. I wonder how large of a coaster could fit in Timberwolf's footprint. Maybe something like an RMC T-Rex or a Mack Multi-launch? You could also go the route of a smaller coaster like a Sky Rocket or a Free Spin and flat or two. Skyflyer would be relatively easy to relocate, but I think Congo would be too expensive to move. I imagine there is a lot of plumbing and concrete work going on under ground. Personally, I'd like to see both rides stay in Action Zone and any expansion be limited to Timberwolf's footprint.

  32. It might have been. Cedar Fair was basically “giving away the gate,” so to speak. The forth quarter featured a number of different promotions to drive attendance and increase in park spending/revenue. That had nothing to do with the quality of 2018’s Haunt.

  35. I felt like it was a missed opportunity years ago to remove Sling Shot and make the entrance to Banshee there ( even it there were two entrances - one from Oktoberfest and one from AZ that “merged” into a relocate queue.) then retheme Adventure Express to relate to Banshee. Like a ride through the crypts (bad memories) and catacombs of a European cemetery while the spirit (Banshee) soars overhead. They could have shared theming elements. Then that would give a major focal to Oktoberfest. Would also maybe give the ghosts from Christmas Carol a place to hang during winterfest instead of roaming randomly with no explanation. My 4 year old was very concerned this year that the “bad man is creeping on the princess”!

  38. Don made a blog post about the Racer track work. It seems pretty cut and dry that the majority of the track work is just on the blue side turn around. Don't set your expectations to seeing much more that that being retracked. https://www.visitkingsisland.com/blog/2019/january/new-track-part-of-racer-roller-coasters-annual-winter-work

  39. There is nothing wrong with believing one way or the other at this point. The documents submitted to the county are pretty good indicators, but things can change. KIC will not be making any official statement on this until we get official word from the park. Until then, it is all speculation and everyone can interpret as they wish.

  40. I absolutely agree 100%. As for the Festhaus, I would LOVE if Hoffbrahaus ran it! the real catch is getting them to do it.
    1 point
  41. This should be a major priority. There needs to be an increased amount of Gemütlichkeit throughout the entire area. With more mature trees and shade, this is totally doable. As mentioned, re-Germanize the Festhaus and lakeside beer garden. More German food options. Roving bands..at very least German music on the speakers. Sling Shot can go-and use the area behind it. Oktoberfest should be a refuge where you can relax either in the shade or in the AC of the Festhaus and grab a bite and a beer and enjoy some music in a comfortable, beautiful setting. I'd turn the food and beer operations of Festhaus and the beer garden totally over to Hoffbrahaus if they'd do it.

  43. Just to add specifics, after the Skyride was closed, the (North) Octoberfest station was used as a "Wine & Cheese/Salad Bar for the 1980, '81, & '82 seasons. It was demolished in 1983 in preparation for King Cobra. The Octoberfest Skyride station was located exactly where the entrance to the KC loop was... and is currently where the base of the first drop of Banshee is located.

  44. What a perfect location for a closed Coke Freestyle stand. Edit: They don’t even need to put the actual machines in, just wall up the station put a big sign on it add it to the park map and leave it locked.

  45. Pretty close to you. We are on the northeast corner of 465. 465 to 74 east to 275 north to 71 north. Made that drive a few times a year through highschool and college every year. Funny story, last summer my wife and I took the kids over for the first time in their lives. We jump in the car and take off, and as we're pulling into the entrance at the park, my wife has an epiphany and looks over at me and said "did you just drive that from memory?" I just laughed. It's not a tough drive!!

  46. ^I'd consider that a bad thing. I'd never get any school work done, especially if there was coaster construction in the off season. I'd hate to have gone to Kings HS or Mason HS.
