  1. Just think, if Paramount still owned the park, we could get something like this below...

  2. That ride is like 8000 feet long, would be pretty cool until it drowns you going off the boat.

  3. With the exception of the continously hanging upside down part and the barrel roll into the water, it looks like a cool coaster!

  4. I'm sorry to turn this into a tree thread, LOL. But I think some gingko trees, shaped into topiary like the ones that were brought from Coney Island, would look great around the tower. And add in some weeping fir for contrast. I do like the weeping white pines over near the KI Theater and the Chicken Shack, but I think they would be distracting around the tower.

  5. I think there's a duration of time after a new ride debuts where people want something new. I'd say with a park like KI, that duration is 3 years. In my opinion, the 3 year formula works perfectly, take the gap between Banshee and Mystic Timbers. 2014- Banshee's inaugural season 2015- Banshee's second season 2016- Prep for new attraction 2017- Mystic Timbers inagural season If you apply that to 2020 you get this 2017- Mystic Timbers inaugural season 2018- Mystic Timbers second season 2019- Prep for new attraction 2020- Giga It takes about 3 years to plan a coaster according to Greg Scheid and I think we'll continue to see this formula.

  6. I can’t see those low percentage drops being more than the ebb and flow of the business. If it was something like a 5-10% drop, then that might be indicative or a larger problem. Let’s also note that when the economy was down, people elected to stay closer to home which provided KI with gains. When the economy is good, people have extra money and travel further for entertainment and vacations. I just don’t see a big swing here. Some years are better than others, especially when new rides and attractions are added and for a season or two after. They may not be spending $30M on KI for 2019, but based upon a new attraction and the redoing of IS, I’m betting they’re easily spending $5M on improvements. The IS reconstruction can’t be cheap, especially with the fountain improvements. On the financial reports, the listing of improving those parks doesn’t give a timeline. That could be for the next year or the next ten. We really don’t know.

  8. If Paramount still owned it, we would probably also get "My Heart Will Go On" on loop in the queue line.

  11. Tea cups would look nice over there and maybe the building covering it can look like the one covering the carousel. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  12. I'd like to see tea cups installed next to Showplace and a ferris wheel installed in front of Backlot, left of the floral clock.

  13. I'd like to see the blue area and the area behind the floral clock developed at some point. And interesting to note on your photo...look at all the trees around the tower. I don't think they made it less photogenic. I guess we will find out as the new linden trees grow that were planted a couple of years ago. I am glad they got rid of the burning bush hedges. I think it looks much cleaner without them. Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

  14. I was originally thinking the Blue area, which would probably be the best. The red area could, but it's probably to small.

  15. If you are talking about in the area in front of the Junkyard Stunt Coaster, would a Mouse fit there? I think, and this is stretching it, maybe a smaller Ferris Wheel there with extensive landscaping and a couple of flats behind the International Showplace, where the Salt Water Circus was, and kind of tie that area into IS with the landscape theme.

  16. @jtro223Those would be cool. Maybe add a flat with those around it. Maybe bring back the Bavarian Beetle or add a Wild Mouse Coaster. Or maybe a Wild Moose Coaster.

  17. Hello KIC members. We are happy to announce that Kings Island has greenlighted our project "Kings Island: 50 Years of Memories". We know many of you are thinking right now "Wait, Kings Island hasn't been open for 50 years?" and you are correct. In order for our project to be completed in time for the premiere in the Spring of 2022, we must get things started. Making a film can be a long tedious process. The distinction of our documentary is the backdrop will comprise of home movies provided by past employees, industry leaders, and park guests. Many of these old clips are 8mm and Super 8 film that will be restored to the highest quality possible and upscaled to current standards. This type of restoration is a long and detailed process as we go frame by frame. Kings Island is very excited about this project just as we are. We hope you will share this information with friends and family who grew up going to Kings Island. Click here to submit your home movies or photographs of Kings Island KI50Movie Facebook Page Make sure to follow our hashtag #KI50movie We will leave you with this quick presentation/teaser trailer we put together. We hope you enjoy it! https://youtu.be/bLvZEc8cxNY ***UPDATE 11/22/18 Just wanted to provide an update on the project. The film is now listed on IMDB along with the poster for the film. Click Here Our diverse team has grown to 17 wonderful and talented people. Our website is currently being built and should be up soon. www.KI50MOVIE.com We are currently working on multiple pre-production chores and finalizing our fundraising campaign. Look and listen for us on tri-state radio and television programs promoting the project over the winter. We are still in need of home movies and photos from over the years. (You must be the owner or have the rights to any submissions. Please do not submit photos or video you found on the internet) We will be announcing an open call for former employees of Kings Island in hope to start filming interviews during the summer of 2019 and 2020. (Unfortunately, current employees of Cedar Fair will not be able to be interviewed) We updated the project logo....Look at the beginning of the post

  19. To be fair, they did have an electric horse ride on the actual ship. Similar to the old quarter bucking bronco rides you’d see at Thriftway. And speaking of 2020 attractions, some park in China is actually building one of the largest attractions ever made......... I’m not joking.

  20. I chose the 80's because that was the KI of my youth. I went from being a child to an obnoxious teenager to a misguided young man during those years. I rode my first roller coaster, The Beastie, in 1980. I was scared to death, but by the end of the day, I had ridden The Racer and The Beast. I remember riding Vortex during its initial year. I remember all the rumors swirling around school about Mr. Jon Harter on grad night in '83. I remember the "oom-pah" music on IS, the meeting at the ET at certain times of the day, parking in Scooby Doo Row 3. I remember the time our tram stopped in the safari and a bison rammed into the side. I remember the paw prints that lead to The Beast and the iron fist that lead to Vortex. I remember Kenton's Cove Keelboat Canal. I remember Enchanted Voyage and the Smurfs. This is my nostalgia. For KI, I definitely think the 10's have been great. I think the park has a great future. It is the decade that I became obsessed first with roller coasters, and now parks and their stories. But I couldn't vote twice.

  21. On another note, anyone hear about the crane for YS? It doesn't look photoshopped. Could possibly be the reason the track was sent back to CSF, to have it inspected. Pics= Generic Coaster Sh1tposting on FB. I only follow them to see the stupid crap on there. It gives me a laugh every day. @IndyGuy4KI delete this if you feel it's not needed.

  22. Yes, I rode this back in the day. It was a fun ride and could be a little scary on a windy day. The ride was always known as Zodiac at Kings Island since it’s installation in 1975. Zodiac operated until 1987 and was SBNO until 1989. It was relocated to Sydney Wonderland in 1989 and operated until the park closed in April 2004. Zodiac occupied the very same space as the new Kings Mills Antique Autos. The version at Great America was a Tri-arm variation and both manufactured by Intamin. Another note, Troika is the previous name for Shake, Rattle, & Roll. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  23. The Blue area is about 21k sq ft or .65ac. The red area wouldn’t work. 9k sq ft or .21ac.

  26. I mean no park needs a giga, but a giga coaster would do wonders for Kings Island coaster line up. Id much rather have Kings Island's next rollercoaster be a giga rather then some other model.

  28. I think a flat or 2 would look real nice back there in front or behind however you view it blsc. It won’t happen but if I had a wish it would be a Topple Tower. KI does need a Ferris wheel. Only park I’ve been too without one i believe. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  29. I'm liking the Beast and Antique Autos combo. I am curious which paths will be open early; those rides and Planet Snoopy cover a large section of the park.

  30. Personally I think coastal redwoods would suit the area around the tower well.

  32. I wasn't and haven't been annoyed by you, @Maverick44. @Rivertown Rider, I doubt the trees would have been relocated. The one picture that was released by the park had a decimated tree near Sweet Spot. The trees were fairly old and likely wouldn't survive a move. Plus the cost is outrageous (or at least it was 15 years ago when I was in that industry), not to mention the potential to damage utilities and infrastructure. I wish the park would set a tree planting goal of 50-100 trees per year throughout the park. That way when things like the emerald ash borer take out trees, or they become past their prime, replacements would have been growing in. I have posted a link I found of a pin oak being transplanted, smaller than the linden trees that were on IS. As you can see, about 75% of the root mass is left behind. Plus, those trees probably had a very extensive root system that went under the pavers and towards the Royal Fountain, looking for water and nutrients.

  34. no worries! I will say that KI has the best shaded que lines and is a lot prettier then say Cedar Point who is a concrete mess with the sun beating down on you all day. Kings Island is beautifully landscaped.

  35. One of the things if they have removed the trees from IS is I hope they were able relocate some of them within the park if they were able to be relocated. Action Zone and the area over between BLSC and Diamondback could benefit from mature trees.

  36. On that topic with the CF Vekomas (aside from Nighthawk, its only going to last so long with Firehawk's donated parts, which aren't that many considering Nighthawk is the prototype), Vekoma is really good at getting parts out for their rides, especially with how many of each model they've sold. Coasters like the handful of Boomerangs (WoF, CW and Carowinds) and the pair of SLC's (MIA and CW) in the chain should be good to go for a while. KI's Invertigo has probably been the best run of its type of the entire line and its shares certain parts with SLC's. WoF's and CW's Boomerangs can also be upgraded to the new Vekoma trains which are HUGE improvements, speaking from experience having ridden HP's Sidewinder with the new train. I think there are trains that help out SLC's as well. Arrow parts get made by S&S (who absorbed Arrow) and with how many Arrows that are still running worldwide, they won't stop making those anytime soon.

  37. Thing about Arrows: Arrow ride attendance is really often not bad as they may seem. Pretty sure we've already established a bunch of time that Arrows often get shorter lines because of capacity and operations. Just take our own good ol' Arrows here as an example. Consistently on the higher side of ridership yet short lines. Even better example: Anaconda. Anaconda gets practically no lines and is pretty unpopular among enthusiasts. However it's consistently the fifth most ridden at the park, with 554k riders in 2017 and 541k in 2016. I just see Cedar Fair focusing on removing "trouble making" rides. Rides that break down a bunch, expensive to maintain, and don't have many parts around. I'm going to predict we're going to see some more Intamins and maybe Vekomas leave as well.
    1 point
  38. That is a gross generalization (referring to "no one rides them"). While we may eventually see some of the Arrow coasters disappear, I doubt we see all of them disappear. Many of the parks have a lot of Arrow coasters (Kings Island has three of them, and Cedar Point has five of them (Iron Dragon, Corkscrew, Magnum XL-200, Cedar Creek Mine Ride and Gemini)).

  39. You literally are insinuating that they are neglecting their parks when that couldn't be further from the truth. You are posting as if you know what they should do vs what they are doing. KD literally got I-305 and folks didn't really show up for it. Not every park is meant to have the same amount of coasters, the same style of coasters, etc. An investment is an investment so you cannot say they are neglecting a park because they aren't adding what you think they should add.
    1 point
  40. Again, just because one park gets a massive amount of money doesn't mean that other parks don't get money. KD has been invested in, just because they haven't gotten any new major roller coasters doesn't mean that Cedar Fair is investing in it. Same with Dorney....the may not be getting new coasters, but money is being put into the park. I know this may be a surprise but Cedar Fair doesn't have anything out there that says their capital improvement budgets must include coasters because enthusiasts think that they know how to run their business better than they can.

  42. So far for 2019 Antique Cars Return International Street Makeover X-Base Construction Beast Car Repaint Racer Track work I think this is the most exciting off season we've had to date. It makes me happy to be a KI fan because I feel like they listen to what the people want more than any other park. The park does a great job appealing to nostalgia and what works for the park.
