  1. And for some reason, nobody seems to be complaining about the /other/ giant sheet metal building in the area, even though that one is directly next to the lift hill, station, and brake run of KI’s historically secluded roller coaster. In fact, I believe someone actually suggested it would be better to build another one like it to house Madame Fatale’s. The point is that amusement parks are by their nature a place to suspend your disbelief: they are never going to be a 100% representation (except, possibly at Disney World level and Disney World prices). There is just no good reason to raze a serviceable building because it “sticks out.” Either it makes financial sense to the park to put something else there, or it doesn’t. It probably eventually will but as long as it doesn’t, at least in the meantime the park is getting some use out of the financial investment in the building.

  2. I must have missed the John Wayne movie where he was riding a coaster.

  3. Yes actually. It's been a big problem. A lot of the paint they use inside the buildings to spray the track have gone missing. They caught some of the "suspicious track" you mentioned on the security cam. They seemed to be scoping out the place from the tree line before the paint went missing. It will be interesting to see what will happen.

  4. We literally have documents filed with the county in August with 2018, 2109, 2020 as dates and B&M listed as a contractor. How is that not a confirmation? The county uses a much higher standard than "the park hasn't posted anything on Facebook about it." The only logical explanation is people like to play the "I'm going to be the contrarian on a message board" game.

  5. Who else is exciting about walking in a month from now and heading to FoF and seeing a big fence blocking our view with some sort of coded teaser on it? With the filed plans, combined with the removal of Firehawk, there is no way we aren’t getting something big and marvelous for 2020. In one month ALL the fun and speculation begins!!! 6. Not a guest but still found this funny. GMA stated Yukon Striker was the tallest, fastest, and longest coaster in the world.

  8. I've had this guy follow me on Twitter and others have had problems with him. I've talked to him before and he stated that "pro photos and videos for parks for the last 15 years, mainly for KI when it was ran by Paramount (http://cincyphotography.com )" I honestly told him myself (as a former ride Op) that they aren't allowed, i've told someone that was in line at Mystic in the station about to board that he couldn't use them and its really how amazing people cant just enjoy rides and NOT record on them. Referring back to "DaVideo Glasses" I've marked all his stuff as spam and blocked him on everything and i suggest others do the same. that's just my thoughts and opinion though. IMO its people like this that'll make it so one day we cant even wear sunglasses on rides

  10. What makes a piece of coaster track suspicious?

  11. Because Cedar Fair really cares about spreading out who gets rollercoasters..... there was a 3 year gap between Banshee and Mystic Timbers so once could assume that maybe it indeed would be Kings Island “turn”. Any ways with there being a major roller coaster removal last year I’d say 2020 is a reasonable assumption as to when Kings Island gets a new rollercoaster.

  12. ^^ Are you saying put a madmouse in the old Crypt building? Cuz we can't renovate one if we don't have one lol

  19. I haven't been on Racer 75 since the rename and Gravity Group retracking, so my perspective has involved a lot of really bumpy rides on it, but I'm just petty enough of an enthusiast that I'll pick it over Racer because it still has its last dip.

  20. With my recent rides on Racer 75, I'd have to pick that ride!

  22. I agree. I feel that most people would see it and think it’s just a storage building or something of similar use. Everyone needs to remember that there should be a very good reason to remove something of that size. If it was falling apart and unsafe, sure. It is a safe and functional building and there would be no need to remove it because it is visually unappealing. It shouldn’t have been put there to begin with but it was and it shall remain.

  23. My opinion: I wish the building that housed The Crypt would either be removed or modified so it wasn't so much of a sore thumb. FOF also sticks out, but it is being used most of the year now. In a strange way, each balance the park out. The park is making wise decisions about renovations and restoration which I am quite excited about. As they do this, and right some of the Paramount/Viacom/CBS woes, the park gets better and better, but things like the former The Crypt building will stand out more. If they keep making wise decisions, I am sure it will be addressed in the future, but if not, I'll enjoy the park and all it offers.

  24. I mean if we saw track with a backbone then that’d be pretty suspicious.

  25. I agree, with all the work CF has done making the park so nice, this really stands out. I wish they would make some kind of removable facade for the building.

  26. I think many are over analyzing what the casual KI attendees see/think. I doubt the thought really crosses their mind, if it does it's more of a "oh, man I miss Tomb Raider/The Crypt."

  27. One can hope they demolished the entrance as a precursor to demolishing the rest of it. I hope there's an auction to be the person who gets to give it the first hit with the wrecking ball. I'll be saving up for that moment. I mean... [awkward cough] No, I don't have any ill will towards that ride left over from my ride op days. What do you mean?

  28. I actually hadn’t really noticed it at all my first couple seasons back to the park (2014 & 15). It was the constant harping on it by a small subsection of commenters on KIC that caused me to actually look for/at it. I don’t get why it is somehow more deserving of ire than any of the buildings alongside Racer (and the big one at the turnaround), the offices at the end of Woodstock Express, or the greenhouses alongside Bat. Is it because it was once a ride that people think it should either be constantly accessible or in use? I mean to ask, was there this much anger about the building when TR:TR was in it? Or is it simply not being allowed inside that is so upsetting?

  29. At this point, I would classify track as suspicious if looks like it could be the track of one of the possible rumored coaster models for Kings Island, and if looks like it is giga track, we might be on to something Btw, I know that the B&M hyper track is used for both gigas and hypers, but it looks as if there is a difference with the track during the drops, so that is something that could be looked for

  30. To be completely honest, seeing it doesn't even phase me...it's one of those unless my view is specifically moved toward it, I pay it no mind.

  31. I think Yukon Striker had a lot more obstacles for construction that it required more time to build. The underwater tunnel and working around Vortex are prime examples

  37. Possibly as early as preview night. If, as I believe (but without verifiable proof), there is a new coaster coming in 2020, I think there will literally be signs when the park opens this season. Signs like these for Mystic Timbers (long before we knew what it would be): Not too much longer and we’ll at least know reasonably for sure if something is coming or not. But, beyond that, actual construction schedule? Anyone who /could/ tell us, wouldn’t.

  40. I like the concept, and I think that it is really nice when people take their time to make them, so I don’t feel that it is right when people bash others because their concepts aren’t “good enough” Concepts don’t always have to be exact in terms of hight and size

  44. Hey guys! It's been awhile since I've been active on here, but figured I'd make my way back to share about an exciting event that was held this past weekend at Ohio State. I'm the VP of our Theme Park Engineering Group, essentially a group of students of any major and background who have interest in the amusement industry, and we hosted the first ever student-led themed entertainment industry conference. Named SITE OSU (Students in Themed Entertainment), it has been in the works since October and took lots of planning and effort from our club, especially the committee that was responsible for organizing and putting it all together. It was such an incredible, fun, and successful event, and I did a write-up/report on it which I figured I would share here for your enjoyment and to learn about what exactly that conference entailed. In summary, there were 65 college students from across the midwest that attended, over a dozen industry professionals, and a full day filled with presentations, networking, and friendship. Several professionals gave really cool presentations about their respective jobs and companies, and we also hosted a student project fair to share what we all have been working on with relation to engineering and the amusement industry. Add in lots of time to casually and informally socialize all together and build industry connections, and it was an amazing conference. Here are just a few pictures from the event, and be sure to check out my full report found here to learn all the event details and see the rest of the pictures from the weekend!
