  1. I had my training on Saturday and got to take in what they’ve done so far. While I won’t upload any pictures or delve into specifics, I will say it is definitely going to be an incredible final result. I think it will really put the “grand” into “grand entrance.” And yes, it’s a good thing that those trees were cut down; the forced perspective illusion has been restored!

  3. I think this whole makeover is going to bring such a great fresh feeling to those of us who try to go once or twice a year from out of state. Kings Island never gets old but it will be so refreshing to see these new beautiful changes added.

  4. As someone who absolutely LOVED the crypt, I would love to see a spinning mouse roller coaster or even possibly something super chill, like a slow cart ride, similar to boo blasters but a little more adult and spooky, and maybe it goes along with the Miami river theme

  5. Better yet make the coaster stop halfway and turn into a flat ride. Run it’s cycle stop and finish the coaster part. Should take about 10 minutes for one lap!

  6. The fact that people still think The Beast Unleashed giga is an official park announcement.

  7. The newish tiques at Valley fair has a similar loading station and even route (or at least compactness of the route) and I thought it worked well. I doubt we ever see this type of ride take up the space of the original ride going forward. The original tiques took up a ton of real estate. I liked the ones at Valley Fair, had my 7 year old (at the time) drive me and his younger sister around, it was a hoot seeing how cautious and serious he took it. Cautious and serious are not things typically associated with him.

  8. I first rode The Beast with my dad in the summer of 2000 just before I turned 9. I even still have the on-ride photo. =) Even with Racer already underneath my belt, I was so nervous since that first lift was so high (at the time) and I practically had no idea what was out there. What always makes me laugh is seeing my apprehensive self cover my ears in anticipation for the tunnel (I had really sensitive hearing at the time and loud tunnels scared the crap out of me). The drop into the double helix was especially terrifying, but by the time we hit the final brakes, I was in love. My family had been visiting Kings Island every summer at least since maybe '97. For a long time I was really just a kid who was obsessed with theme parks and roller coasters in typical child like fashion, but The Beast was probably the coaster that turned me into a true enthusiast. From that first ride, it went from an obsession to a lifestyle. If I were to guess, I probably have more rides on The Beast than any other coaster at Kings Island. It's a really, really special milestone coaster for me. Also, I've posted this link once before somewhere on this website, but here's a review I wrote two years ago showing my full thoughts on The Beast and why it's so special.

  9. As of right now, I think it will be used as a Haunt maze as long as Haunt remains popular.

  14. Correct. However with that the legend is true: the King Cobra trains were stored inside Flight of Fear for many years before being shipped to KD for Shockwave parts.

  16. I've collected them for maybe 5 years now. I display most on a trio of custom-built shelves I bought with a haul of Kings Island shotglasses on eBay a few years ago. Here (link) is a shot of them. I love how they look, but they only hold 87 glasses total. My collection has surpassed that size, so all the extras are now just lined-up above my kitchen cabinets. Maybe they'll introduce some Copperhead Strike shotglasses later in the season - I'd still love to add one to my collection. And I didn't consider liquor laws between states, but I could definitely see that as a reason for the strict alcohol policies. I haven't done Electro Spin itself, but I rode a topscan at the Ohio State Fair in 2016. It was easily one of the most disorienting rides I've ever ridden, so to be honest I'm not sure I would've ridden Electro Spin even if it was open. Hope you have fun! It's a great park! Part 4 After a couple rides on Afterburn, our group split. A couple went to Copperhead Strike again, while the rest of us went to try a Carowinds-original: Plants vs. Zombies Garden Warfare: 3Z Arena. This renovation of the former Action Theater was introduced in 2016 and I've been interested in it since. If memory serves me right, Kings Island's own Action Theater hasn't been used for a film since 2013 and is now strictly storage and Halloween Haunt's Urgent Scare. When Carowinds' new interactive ride was announced, I was hopeful a similar attraction could be added to Kings Island's theater. The queue area featured some fun props, although I assume the windows are screens and normally have some media on them. There was also a small preshow, featuring Dr. Zomboss. It did a good job explaining the story to anyone unfamiliar with Plants vs. Zombies (self included). No pictures from the attraction itself, but a quick web search can show you the set-up. It's sort of a hybrid of Disney's Toy Story Mania and the former Action Theater simulators, with moving seats synchronized to on-screen motion. I was super excited to give this ride a try, but honestly a little underwhelmed... you have 20+ participants all shooting at the same screen, so it marks your hits with a colored number. I assume the number corresponds to your seat, but I must've not noticed the number before the attraction began and it was too dark to see it once the experience began. The gameplay itself was also a little repetitive - several people in our group got tired of it and just stopped playing before the end of the attraction. I really wanted to like this attraction, so it was a bummer it wasn't as great as I hoped for. In typical theme park fashion, the attraction ended with a gift shop... and these unique Fury 325 hats. But no shotglasses From the exit of Plants vs. Zombies, there's a great shot of Copperhead Strike's twisted profile. Next we did Carowinds' other interactive ride, Boo Blasters on Boo Hill. The attraction is similar to Kings Island's version, albeit the omnimover-style ride system is replaced with individual cars. The sets had a lot of the same characters and props, only on a much smaller scale. Everything seemed a lot more consolidated. A lot of the effects also didn't appear to be working when compare to their Kings Island counterparts. But one thing I really liked about Carowinds' version of the ride was the laser guns - you can see a red dot wherever you were shooting, which made it a lot easier to recognize if you were successfully shooting a target or not. Overall I prefer Kings Island's though, and I really appreciate that we have such a high-capacity ride system for our ride. As far as I can tell, Kings Island is the only park in the country outside of Disney with a omnimover-style system. The next coaster, Nighthawk. This ride is similar to Kings Island's former Firehawk, with a few small changes - it ends with a pair of corkscrews instead of inline twists, doesn't have the final helix, and lacks a dual load station. But its setting near the park entrance is fantastic - the ride soars above water and pathways, and one of the main park midways passes directly under the ride's lift hill (which, side note, was eerily quiet when compared to Firehawk's). The ride itself isn't as good as Firehawk was though, especially the corkscrews or slower operations thanks to only one load station. We started to wrap-up the night with a final few rides. First, Mountain Gliders, a set of Bisch-Rocco flying scooters that previously operated at Kings Island. I enjoy that the park brought-back flying scooters with Woodstock Gliders in 2015, but I selfishly want "our" original set back But I'm happy to see this antique ride still running. My phone died around this point, so no more photos from Saturday. But to quickly summarize the remainder of the night - we did two successive nighttime rides on Copperhead Strike. The ride is even better after the sun sets, and the headlights on the trains are crazy cool. I love how they illuminate the track as you speed around it, and I would have loved if Mystic Timbers had something similar. Then we wrapped-up the night on Fury 325, which was great. I got myself a Fury 325 shotglass too, adding to my collection. Overall, fantastic day at the park. A few of us returned for half the following day, which I'll cover in the next (and probably last) part.

  17. Kind of like the OTSR's on Top Thrill Dragster since it's got that steep drop after cresting the top of the ride?

  18. With the bricks nearest the fountain being a different color, I wonder if this is a parade route/fountain show viewing section, and the outside near the shops is open to relieve congestion. (Excuse me... it’s just the DisneyWorld visitor in me coming out.) in fact the two sections that jut out towards the fountain could be stage areas as well.

  19. These 2018 goals have carried over to 2019: - Reach 700 rides on Vortex #MaybeMay3 - Possibly reach 200 flights on WindSeeker? (I'm at 151 and the most I've ridden in one season is 39) - Visit Soak City more than once New for 2019 goals: - Dance to the newly refurbished Glockenspiel at least once - Reach 800 rides on Vortex - Reach 900 rides on Vortex (my goal for this season) - Ride in every seat in every train on Vortex (doesn't have to be within the same day) - Keep beating my single day ride record on Vortex (32 as of 10/21/2018) - Ride Vortex 200 times or more in the same season - Make at least one attempt to beat the overall single day ride record on Vortex (66). Call me crazy, but I really want to go for it. I'm ready for another stiff neck (my side effect from riding it 32 times ). - Marathon Diamondback on or around August 14 (which this year is the ten-year anniversary of my first ride on Diamondback on August 14, 2009). - Get trained at all four Arrow rides in the park (Vortex, Express, Bat and Flume) in the same season. Vortex is my home ride so obviously I'm trained there from the start; I got trained at Bat in 2017 (but not 2018) and Express and Flume in 2018. - Get trained to drive a coaster other than Vortex. - Pick up at least one shift in Park Services during the summer, to help out my friends there! That's all I have for now.

  24. I think something like Journey to Atlantis at SeaWorld would be really cool for this spot. Instead of the Atlantis theme, it could easily be themed along with Rivertown / Mystic Timbers. Not sure how well it would fit but without looking, I believe it was manufactured by Mack, and I bet they could make good use of the area and the building with an attraction like this.

  25. How about this far fetched idea: Since the park has been restoring things that have been removed (Wisteria tunnel, antique cars, Scooters, IS reovation, WinterFest, IR, etc)--How about they put in a dark flume ride? They could theme it after Phantom Theatre, or more appropriately, to the legend of The Beast/Miami River Lumber Co. The ride could snake inside the building and go outside and maybe follow a similar path to KCKC.

  26. I have heard people complain about Mystic Timbers being too short of a ride and that Kings Island will be getting a roller coaster that is like Kingda Ka as it is the best roller coaster in existence They said it not me LOL
