  1. I feel like the area that has been cleared is already big enough for a pretty good giga.

  2. Here's what will happen: "Of course you're all looking forward to what next year has in store here at Kings Island, but right now we're focused on this season, and we're just really happy that guests are enjoying the improvements we've seen so far. With the addition of the all-new Kings Mills Antique Autos, as well as a fresh new look for International Street, we're just happy to have brought back some things for guests who have been visiting since day one, and there's even more fun to come for the remainder of the season including the all-new Grand Carnivale! Next question, please."

  4. You're right! Which is exactly why I made it taller than WindSeeker. The pink lines that I added are the same height.

  8. No. Centurion was trademarked on October 18th, 2013, Fury on January 23, 2014, and then 'Fury 325' on June 9th, 2014. The Roman-style teasers that showed up at Carowinds in the summer of 2014 would lead us to believe that Centurion was the original intended name, with Fury perhaps being used for something else (or as a back-up trademark). Somewhere in between the filing of separate trademarks Fury and Fury 325, an issue arose with Centurion already being in use by someone else, and thus had to be abandoned. Once they realized they couldn't use Centurion, they then turned to 'Fury 325' to fit the giga theme. ------ As a side note, to those hoping that numbers are not incorporated into this ride's name, I will say this: "So far, so good!" However, if we see some trademark pop up in the upcoming months along the lines of "Orion 330", or "Polaris 345", well, then....

  12. John Matarese is apparently a big Kings Island/Coaster enthusiast. He’s always posting “news” articles about the park. I wouldn’t be surprised if one of you was actually John Matarese!

  13. Oh god. I just read that WCPO article. I cannot believe they put that mockup on there. I wonder how many people will think thats official art regardless what the story says.

  17. Just my opinion here but it would be pretty cool if they did expand into the old SoB area and put a double helix in that spot to pay homage to SoB. Not saying I think it's likely but could be pretty sweet.

  24. I can’t tell you how many random people told me they thought The Beast Unleashed video was real in normal conversation. Often people see these things and they have no real reason not to believe them... nor do they care that much.

  25. Yes, I’m aware of how distance and perspective work. WindSeeker and the placement of the lift hill on my mock-up are in much closer proximity than WindSeeker and Diamondback are on your example. I took perspective into account when I created it. It doesn’t matter anyway. It’s a quickly done doodle, not a mathematically engineered rendering.

  27. Just driving clicks/traffic and being the first to report, that is all these news stations are about anymore. I find little if any actual 'news' in that article. It is sad that article made it beyond an editors desk.

  28. Although those pink lines are the same length (height) on the computer, because it's closer to the camera, the lines won't produce accurate proportions of 301ft at a nearer spot. Just like here: http://queencitydiscovery.blogspot.com/2017/01/reader-submission-aerial-view-of-kings.html It's not perfect placement (my lines), but it's nowhere close to the difference being from my editing error. 300ft far away will, in a photo, appear much longer/ taller when it's closer to the camera.

  33. If I'm not mistaken, CF has a history of trademarking numerous names early and not using any of them. Think about The Ledge and Centurion. Don't believe either have been used as of yet. CF could just be messing with us. Lol

  34. Son of Beast makes a return!! I’m kidding. I believe it will be B&M. If not, I expect it to be steel no matter what. But as everyone else has pointed out numerous times, the notice of commencement says B&M. I’d say the chances of any other manufacturer making this coaster is close to zero.
    5 points
  35. ^ While that would be a very welcomed addition by many, Kings Island just installed a wooden coaster for the 2017 season with Mystic Timbers. The commencement documents also list B&M as a contractor, which most of us are assuming is for the 2020 project.

  36. I seriously doubt this project will get put on hold. Primarily because of the Notice of Commencement, and because of the massive clearing that has started.

  37. A layer of gray clouds covered the sky as the sun rose on the morning of Saturday, May 4, 2019. As park opening grew nearer, the rides came to life as they ran their startups, including the Arrow looper and Mondial WindSeeker that call Coney Mall's east end their home. When it came time for the morning test rides, one associate who volunteered to ride first stepped into the front row of the train parked in the station, and sat in the left seat. Soon after buckling her restraint, she and her train were sent out into the gentle drizzle that fell. As the ground grew farther away and the lift hill's summit grew closer, she realized just how special her ride would be, for this particular ride would send her ride count...into the 700's. That associate of whom I speak is myself, and the particular ride about which I speak is Vortex. At 10:00 a.m. on May 4, 2019, I not only test rode but also changed the hundreds digit in my ride count. I twirled through Vortex's six inversions for the 700th time, all with a 55 mph drizzle in my face and the temperature in the upper 50's. With this occasion came some notable differences in the way I celebrated: - No guests witnessed the occasion; only several of my crewmates did. My crewmate who was driving said "Enjoy your 700th ride!" as my train departed the station. - This was the first time I have taken a milestone ride on the anniversary of a previous milestone (I had taken my 500th ride one year prior, on May 4, 2018!). - This was my first milestone ride that was also a test ride. - We had started Vortex's startups a little later than usual, so I did not have time to get a picture of me holding my homemade sign (though I did get a picture of the sign afterward) while sitting on the train, because otherwise we would open late. The most notable change also happened because of this: - I took this ride in the front left seat...on Train 2, NOT Train 1. Shocker, I know. I took my 100th, 200th, 300th, 400th, 500th, and 600th complete rides on Vortex in the front left seat on Train 1, as well as my first test rides of 2017 and 2018. Since Train 2 was already in the station when it came time to test ride and we were short on time, I decided to be flexible and hop on Train 2 instead of waiting for Train 1 to come back around, for the sake of my crew and the ride opening on time. The funny thing was, I had said to myself a month or so prior to the season's start that I would be okay with taking my first Vortex test ride of 2019 on any train (not just 1 like the last two years), and that definitely applied to today, where Train 2 got the spotlight. I had also not planned for my 700th ride to be a test ride, as last Friday's 14-ride Vortex binge was an impromptu trip planned only hours in advance. Do I regret riding a different train? No. In fact, this works well in its own way. I had always considered Train 2 to be my "lucky train," as I would often end up on that train for who knows how many rides in a row (even spanning over multiple days!), without even planning it. The number 7 has always been my favorite and "lucky" number. It just so happened that by riding Train 2, my lucky number met my lucky train. Plus, this was my first ride where it was simultaneously a milestone and a test ride, so for me Train 2 will now have the title of "Milestone Train While Working" and Train 1 will still have the title of "Milestone Train" with it now applying to any milestone rides I take as a guest. This means I will now try to ride Train 2 when I happen to simultaneously test ride and reach a milestone, and still try to ride Train 1 when I reach a milestone as a guest. In the mid-morning drizzle of Saturday, May 4, 2019, I celebrated the same occasion differently. Much like how I still enjoyed my Opening Day visit without Vortex, I enjoyed my 700th complete Vortex spin on a different train. + Vortex: 1 YTD: 15 Total: 700 1/3 (P.S. I also got retrained to drive Vortex today! ) (P.P.S. May the Fourth be with you. )

  40. If they were to retheme fof (Like several users here have suggested) then the new name seems totally reasonable.

  41. I thought about something today. What if they trademarked those two names to rename Flight of Fear and then use the other name on the new ride? Could you imagine that everyone?
    4 points
  42. Probably. I was talking to someone who works for either the city or the county (I can't remember which) and they said that the permits for Coney BBQ were filed before the park opened the year before. This is all public record. I'm not sure when the layout is due, but if I recall, someone got their hands on the Mystic plans around June or July of '15, and Diamondback was on a similar timeline, so maybe that specific document becomes public or is filed around then. To be honest, I almost don't want to know too much before the announcement although I assume we will all know quite a bit. I want a surprise for once! Also don't forget that Mustang was a rumored name for Diamondback and they put up teasers saying "Ride Sally Ride." They aren't afraid to mess with you sometimes.

  45. I saw someone suggest they filed two because they’re both so basic they could get rejected so they chose to file two Incase one gets rejected. Maybe one of the names could be the name of a large flat ride also if they choose to expand the area?

  46. Their FOF coaster. Also, didn’t CW and Carrowinds get new themed areas along with a coaster? Why couldn’t a new themed area be called Polaris or Orion? (Both KD and KI are primed for a new themed area.

  47. While the area is themed very well with music, landscaping and props, it is very mishmashed. An Avalanche, a Nascar race track, Flight of Fear through space and a Hollywood Backlot don't really fit into a safari theme.
