After seeing the new blueprints, I was able to go up to city hall, obtain the blueprints, and get them scanned. Here are the full resolution, digital copies of the new blueprints. http://bit.ly/kipx202018 points

Millennium Force: Cool name in 1999 for announcement and 2000. Outdated reference by 2001. What does it even mean? (Yes, I know a cheesy story explains it.) Intimidator 305: decent name, theme pretty good. Licensing fee and NASCAR popularity has been declining since even before its debut. Leviathan: Great, unique name that fitting a giant coaster. Fury 325: What does it even mean? Hopelessly generic. Shooting Star: Timeless. Throwback to Cincinnati history, everyone knows what a shooting star is. My point is Shooting Star has appeal even though it may not be the trendiest name.7 points

To be fair, the turn around does kind of look like an inclined dive loop/Immelman. It'd be cool if that turn around had some sort of ridiculous banking to it.7 points

Spent today and yesterday at Carowinds and I’ve got to stay this Lift hill will have such a commanding presence at Kings Island, it’s going to look absolutely incredible.7 points

He also pegged Diamondback as a dive coaster based entirely on the splash construction.7 points

For the name, I'd prefer something that matches the area's theme (Orion) and/or has significance to the park/Cincinnati (Shooting Star).6 points

Totally agree. I saw someone said that the clamshell restraints wouldn't handle inversions. But could either A. The amount of speed this thing will more than likely carry into the turnaround allow them to work. (More than likely not the case.) B. B&M is using a new restraint type. I dont recall seeing the restraints in the plans. Again, probably not the case, just speculation. But a psuedo inversion/brand new elements could be what sets our giga apart from everything else out there.6 points

He also thought The Banshee was going to be a wing coaster based off of the blueprints. That guy's a legend, he's probably just either trolling or a little rusty on his blueprint knowledge6 points
-
Still a giga in my book, though! I hope more blueprints are released soon. The blueprints for the rest of the footings would be nice to have, as its coordinate info will tell us how low to the ground the low areas of track will be. Might also give us more juicy details.6 points
-
The 286' comes from the crest height (per the latest blueprints) and subtracting the footing height from the ground directly below the crest (from the first set of blueprints). If you measure from the ground at the station instead of directly below the crest, you get more like 296'. This is all subjective though. It's up to KI to determine where they measure the drop height from (heck, if you measure from the Little Miami River, you get something like 436'!). I'm betting they'll play some smoke and mirrors on us and say it's 300' tall. It definitely has a 301' drop, but from station track up to crest track, you're only going up 276'.6 points

You know, the more I think about it, the more I wonder if “Project X” is actually the name & theme. Seriously- everyone could be overlooking the obvious.6 points

He always thinks the helixes are vertical loops... I remember when he said that Diamondback was going to have multiple loops, probably looking at the turn arounds and helixes. He probably thought that the ampersand turn (or whatever kind of element that is) near the end of the layout was a loop.5 points

^I mean the blueprints filed with the city say 286’ so either there’s a clerical error, which is unlikely at this stage imo, or it’s 286’. I suppose these plans could be fake or intentionally off, but as many have pointed out, this would seem to be way over the top to mess with a small group of enthusiasts and would almost definitely not be worth everything they’d have to go through to do so. The T-Rex will be a complete game changer in the industry. It's track and trains can literally do anything, while using less steel than any current track / support system which of course equates to cost savings. I can't wait!5 points

KI is a heck of lot closer drive for me than Cedar Point( 2 hours vs 5 hours). A coaster at KI that rivals or exceeds MF could be a big deal for out of state park visitors. Maybe a lot of them choose KI instead?5 points

Imo there’s no way this coaster won’t be better than Millennium Force and Leviathan. I understand the love behind MF is like that behind The Beast, so I get people still liking that more, but with the mix of elements on this ride compared to those two, I think this will be miles better. I305 and Fury on the other hand... I guess we’ll have to wait and see, but if this coaster has to be absolutely flying and really surprise me to have a chance being better than those imo. Just my take on the matter. I’ll just sit here waiting to get stoned to death by the Mille/Levi lovers and the KI giga haters. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

I agree that Shooting Star is a bit outdated for a rollercoaster, but it would make a great name for some flat ride. If I were to name this giga, it would be Celestron (I know to some this sounds stupid, but it would be a play on something celestial, idk). Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

I think the old names have a certain charm. It seems every new coaster name is a monster, an intimidating animal, or some mythical or powerful force/magic, etc. I think the scary theme is overdone, personally, but ultimately it won't be up to me!4 points
-
I get it, personally though I just think it sounds really old fashioned. I think the other names just sound a lot cooler. Just my 2 cents though. If that is the name though I'm sure it'll grow on me.4 points

Could you imagine that for a second? A Dive coaster with the layout of a hyper. Expensive but still cool!4 points

to me it seems like he is kinda locally famous for being a part of Kings Islands history but he seems like is just an enthusiast like us. i take everything he says when it comes to predictions with a grain of salt. but i loved seeing him in a KI documentary i saw on youtube. he seems like a really nice guy4 points

Did anyone else see that WLWT article with Dennis Spiegel? It's clear that guy has no idea what he's talking about. He said there would be a vertical loop.4 points
-
Yep, there in lies the rub. They can honestly play with the numbers from the actual ground to crest.4 points
-
This is correct. The main drop is the only drop over 200', at 301'. The reverse treble clef is next highest drop at 194'. Now, depending on where KI measures their zero height from, the first turn hill and reverse treble clef may be over 200' tall, but they're not dropping more than 200'.4 points
-
You guys could totally be right but it does seem like a bit of a reach to me. I guess we'll just have to see.4 points

Without tourists Cedar Point wouldn't be what it is today. Kings Island doesn't really have to worry about attendance like Cedar Point does because the park will always be surrounded by big midwestern cities.4 points

I forgot to mention, but when getting off AE I noticed there were a few flags and markings on the ground (white flags and orange, white, and red markings I think) between the exit and the rope ladder climbing game. Think these could possibly be for the new building or for something completely different? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk4 points

Everyone stop what you're doing and listen to this guy, he knows what's up. *The thumbnail is misleading to get more views so take that with a grain of salt.4 points

Just be happy that we’re getting a giga, ladies and gentlemen. I’m happy for any new ride, especially one that only 4 other parks in North America have.3 points
