  1. KIGA update: so yesterday at about late morning and early afternoon (both after my daily morning check), both the ORION and POLARIS trademarks got an update. After the initial application, the first step on the USPTO side is for each application to get assigned an examiner and have an initial database search (to see if these new trademarks could potentially be confused or infringe upon existing trademarks). Yesterday, both trademark applications had that happen. These are called "XSearch Search Summary" if you wish to look them up. Comparing both Orion's and Polaris' search results to Hangtime or Copperhead Strike doesn't really reveal much. Even the original "Fury" application, which got temporarily refused due to "likelihood of confusion" with another existing trademark, looks similar at this point, so I cannot see any indication for approval or refusal at this stage. BUT, if I use HT or CHS's applications as reference, then we should see additional updates to both Polaris' and Orion's applications next week. The examiner will send a letter to CF for both trademark applications with results in their search, which will then tell us about initial acceptance or refusal for both. Over the next month or so, I expect to see several updates to both trademark applications. If either gets refused, then can could signal that CF will abandon that trademark, or modify it slightly (similar to what changed "Fury" into "Fury 325"). I cannot link to what I'm viewing because it's an active search (and would only show "SEARCH EXPIRED" on your end), so you'll need to search it on your own if you're interested. One of my past posts in this thread goes into detail of how to do this, if you're interested. Shown below are screenshots of the initial search results. Note how complex their search is, even including misspellings and slightly different spellings of the words.

  2. This. There just is no way for the average person to know or be able to tell. And honestly, even though it does irk me a little bit too, 4 feet is just nothing on a 300 ft coaster. Plus your eye level will be at 300 ft so I'd bet money they are just gonna call it 300 even

  3. Hyper and Giga are just made up terms. As far as the manufacturer is concerned it's a Mega Coaster. KI could call it a Super Dooper Strata Coaster and theres no one out there that could officially say they are wrong. It wouldn't change anything. It's 296 from station footer to top of the lift. They could build it on the beach or on a mountain and it would be 296 ft. The steel doesn't know what the elevation is.

  4. They still can't decide how they are going to market a 296 ft tall coaster.
    5 points
  5. They'd market it as a 301 foot drop if I were to take a guess. Heck, maybe they'll just say it's 301 feet tall when only the drop is 301 feet tall.

  7. Guys, I think this is a teaser. They know what we're thinking? Obviously referring to us here on KIC. How could cotton candy get any better? Substitute "the vast and diverse Kings Island roller coaster collection" with "cotton candy" and the question is very clear. Unique flavors, meaning the "unique" elements on the new giga. Speaks to you? We're getting an animatronic as well. It's not even going to be just a coaster. We're getting a dark ride. I can't believe KI would think they could pull a fast one on us. We are too smart. End the teasing already, guys.

  8. We treated this just like a YouTube phone POV video. Those are against park policy and we do not allow them here either. KIC should be the example of following park policy, whether we agree or is legal or not.

  9. The thing is your not gonna look at this roller coaster and say, “That’s 296 feet tall” they are just probably gonna announce it at 300

  10. Having a great day even though it is very busy. Phone is at 50% so updates from here on will be scarce. But have a pic of Banshee!

  11. Speaking of theming for this coaster, I hope they go all out in theming for this kinda like Copperhead Strike. The Quonset hut in the queue says prop building on the blueprints, so hopefully that means some type of prop. Like maybe a spacecraft prop could be inside it. Maybe could be part of the reason they aren't going all out in the coaster stats and layout because of them spending a good amount of money on the theming.

  12. Honestly, for those who missed it, the drone footage didn't show anything that we haven't seen already. It's more of a philosophical discussion at this point. Can't wait for that new Alfredo loop.

  13. Kings Island doesn’t get to dictate what happens in “its” airspace (no matter how much they really, really want to believe they do), but the FAA does. It’s been posted here before, but there are rules and restrictions imposed by the FAA for flying a drone over areas where people are gathered. What those entail and if the videos posted here actually violate any FAA rules, I don’t know. Someone else can jump in on that. If you wanna see the footage, just google “Kings Island drone.” As for KIC removing the videos—if you want them backstage Beast tours, you gotta play ball.

  14. ^No. I think he’s showing support for the troops marching on Area 51. He’s emphasizing how although we may seem like just a shadow at the moment, if enough group together, we could form the full man, the full team, behind the camera and come out victorious. Let’s march on Area 51 and find the second half of our giga! Who’s with me!? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  18. It is surprising the park is not even teasing this new ride when almost every other park in the history of adding new coaster has done so, no matter the circumstances. It would be kind of funny if there isn’t even an announcement, and a 300 foot rollercoaster appears next year. The GP will think they moved Diamondback to where Firehawk was. Edit: The coaster is 296 feet, not 300... LOL!

  19. There are many reasons why it takes people so long to come forward. Fear, embarrassment, shame, or the thought that no one would believe you. Sometimes it is because they feel powerless and/or they feel their abusers has something they can use against them. Sometimes the abuser actually backs off for a while before starting things up again or the behavior is gradual and gets worse over time. And there's always those situations that start off mutual until a boundary is crossed and one person no longer feels comfortable and the other won't back off. Also to be fair, she allegedly reported this behavior to a higher-up and nothing was done about it. So there's that.

  22. Guys, I had to create an account just to quote the above photo. Get on topic, and not lame FAA. So this is my thoughts on this. He is talking about his shadow, which I believe is a Peter Pan reference. Peter Pan was from Neverland, which was in what star? The North. Which is named "Polaris." Do you think this could be true? Or am I over thinkin it. Lol =D

  23. I'm sure opening weekend for this ride will be crazy busy if the weather is nice like the openings for the last two coasters. I wonder if they'll use the chaos building as an overflow queue like how they used the crypt building for MT. But that probably won't be enough. If I were to take a guess, the line will stretch to the Eiffel Tower.

  24. They could drop a video that day that shows a group of KI enthusiasts who after spending months feverishly "decoding" the new ride become so obsessed with figuring out the name of the ride they band together to storm the Cedar Fair offices. They can't stop us all.

  25. I TOTALLY understand why they don't want drones over the park. This is not even remotely the same as flying over someone's property when they just don't want you to. Drones can be purchased by anyone for less than $100. Imagine kids or people who don't know what they are doing flying drones over people when one could fall, either by user error or drone malfunction, and seriously injure a person or falling or flying into a train full of people speeding by on a ride, or landing on a track. Just too many things that could cause serious injury or death if the no drone policy isn't strictly inforced. The high percentage of the general public having drones is still relatively new so laws haven't caught up yet. It is illigal in Cincinnati to fly them over parks for safety reasons, it just don't apply to KI. I don't know about the other stuff with the fountains people we're talking about, but I 100% understand KIC wanting to maintain a good relationship with the park as far as not hosting drone videos that went against park rules. It doesn't seem like a big deal until you get multiple people doing it, an accident happens, someone is injured (or worse, killed), and then KI is sued. Obviously a plane has a lisenced pilot and is a totally different story, so I'd rather just support people like @sixohdieselrage and @Captain Nemo who get us awesome footage without breaking KI rules.

  26. You know, sometimes people just want to push the envelope. If the park has a policy, I follow it. It doesn't matter to me if it is on firm or shakey legal ground. If that's what the park wants, why go against their wishes? By extension, this site agrees with the parks wishes. So naturally, they are going to moderate with those wishes in mind. For those who don't like that, it may be time to accept that or move on. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  28. Drove to Cedar Point today and got there at early ride time, 9am. Immediately got in line for SV and still had to wait 45 mins, but worth it. Then went over and rode MF and that was 5min wait at 9:45 am, still 15 mins before park open. We rode Valravn which said it was a 15 min wait and had a really short line, but we still waited 45 mins because they were allowing more than half of each train to be Fast Lane holders so regular line was moving pretty slow. Rode GK at around noon and was 45 min wait. Very full queue but the line was almost continuously moving, so not too bad. Decided to call it a day after a few more hours of intense heat on an already sunburned back, and we headed home. Be back in a couple weeks!

  29. I just came back to list the elevation but I'm too late, good catch. The difference is that ET sits at 765 feet above sea level and WS is at 749. I'm using Google Earth for those numbers. So that's why I thought it would end up looking shorter. They're building it on the lowest elevation in the park.

  37. I wonder if perhaps we've had teasers in plain sight for a while. There's a wall near The Racer and the antique cars painted with store fronts. We have Halley's Coffee....Skylab Cafe....and Zodiac books. I think most of us are expecting a space theme for this ride and if that's correct I suppose these would make sense as teasers. It certainly does beg the question why there would be so many references to space and perhaps constellations in coney mall and right by the antique cars. I got to talking with a park employee for a while I was there last night and they confirmed that the painting of that wall with those store fronts was a more recent addition, though I should have asked when that was added. I put a pic below so everyone can see what I'm talking about.

  38. A lot of times in an abuser/abused relationship, the victim feels stuck and/or scared to reject the advances in fear of harsher retaliation. This is actually quite common with sexual harassment. But it doesn't matter. Either way, IT IS NOT OKAY. I hope the abuser and the supervisor who ignored her pleas spend the rest of their lives in the unemployment line.

  40. Where we need trams is for when you park by Soak City in the morning then forget to go move your car before they close the water park for the day.
    1 point
  41. Kings Island's parking lot isn't huge, and the app alleviates the problem of having to remember where you parked. But I do wish they had the trams. It would make a big difference with kids. It's nerve-wracking to walk with them through the parking lot, especially at night when people are often not paying attention to where they're going and kids have a tendency to run and wander. Also, at the end of the day, us and our kids are usually so tired from walking that a tram would be a great way to ease our legs a bit and restore our energy before the drive back to the hotel.

  43. Eh. I've had bolts for concrete pours come in anything from burlap sacks to cardboard barrels to crates. These are probably at least 1 1/2" diameter by 36" long bolts. It's not that easy to damage something like that. Looking at pics, I'd say that cardboard box on the skid at the bottom left is the bolt box. http://www.wildgravitytravels.com/kings-island-2020-update-10/?fbclid=IwAR3vG6L7h4r8ZsCAtbXu3Q6LX7VWm4EY6Mj7A6HK-NbYwpd2AkmVPyfYJe4
