  3. Hey everyone, just thought I'd introduce myself as I am new to the site! Super excited about the upcoming announcement and new coaster! I live in Louisville and have always loved KI and make sure to go at least once a year. Just graduated from college in May and working at Kentucky Kingdom for the summer as a ride op before I move to Germany for work for a year during my gap year. Hoping to hit up Europa and some other cool parks abroad. All that means next year will be my first season not visiting KI at least once since 2008, which is unfortunate considering the shiny new toy we're getting. Anyway, just wanted to say hi and express my enthusiasm for the site, coasters, and KI!

  4. Are you going to send that to John Matarese on Facebook? He might end up on "vacation" again lol.

  6. There is a noticable if not substantial difference in maintaining/adding/adhering to theming (even if light) between the Kinzel era and the Ouimet/Zimmerman era. It is almost startling. Carowinds and CW just opened two brand new relatively immersive themed areas. Knotts has had major renovations done to its two Disney-esque attractions. Carnivale, and I-Street (along with the glockenspiel) are, in my opinion, the epitome of this.

  7. Sorry it was so quite on here over the weekend. I don't normally get a chance to look over the weekends lol Still seems like we have new developments though. Great track pics and the SkyHigh shipping container is on site.

  8. A lack of ridership was not the reason for the ultimate demise of The Crypt. The ride was plagued with downtime and many other issues that stem from being an “oversized” prototype. And that’s just skimming the surface. To put it lightly, from my knowledge over the years, that ride was tearing itself up. It was going to have a limited lifespan no matter what. For more information on the demise of The Crypt, I’d recommend reading older forum posts and searching for a bit. These forums contain quite a hefty amount of first-hand knowledge about that ride.

  9. From what it’s marked, no. Also, this wouldn’t be a good idea considering it would make Banshee, the current most expensive coaster in park history, pretty much obsolete. Why build a very big and expensive coaster, only to one up it with a bigger and more expensive coaster of the same type? Yes I know instances of this make sense, particularly with woodies. However, inverts are such a niche type that it wouldn’t make sense in this case. Also, before people say “this giga is just a bigger Diamondback,” no, it isn’t. If you don’t believe me, ride Fury and I232 or Levi and Behemoth. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  13. None that I can recall in recent memory. As far as coasters, Diamondback was announced on a Wednesday (August 6, 2008) while Banshee and Mystic Timbers were both on a Thursday (August 8, 2013 and July 28, 2016 respectively)

  14. I'm friends with last year's fire breather and his wife, the new show "Drums of the Dead" will include them, and two other familiar drummers! According to them it's supposed to be bigger and better than Blood Drums

  15. It’s pretty cool that it appears costumed stiltwalkers will be on International Street. I realized the spooky potential of that when I happened to walk up International Street one evening during Carnivale starting off somewhat ahead of one of the German stiltwalkers going the same way. Even when it’s just a nice young guy in lederhosen, the sound as those long steps get closer and closer is exceedingly ominous! I think I have the possibility of being genuinely spooked some at this year’s Haunt

  20. ^I get what you’re saying, but consider a few things: Crypt was, as previously stated, a massive prototype that was ripping itself apart. Not only that but it was themed completely around Tomb Raider. As stated before, the ride lost almost all charm and the theming lost all meaning once that theme was gone. They still kept a good amount of theming in there and did convert some of it, but if they were to pour even more money into it, while it was doomed to have a short lifespan, it wouldn’t have made sense. With Top Gun/Flight Deck, I agree it would’ve been nice to keep the airplane theme, but now it’s been renamed and repainted to The Bat. All the airplane theming would be obsolete at this point. Could they have maybe moved it to FoF or the new giga? Sure, but whats the point when FoF is already well themed and the giga will probably have brand new theming. 90s theming on a brand new 2020 coaster would look pretty bad imo. With BLSC, my only though about why the cars are just shells now is CF was worried about Mini filing a lawsuit due to similarities between the coaster cars and theirs. Keeping them plain colors gives CF a much better leg to stand on. As for fog/effects/etc. so far on Banshee and MT, they are still up keeping all the effects. I’m surprised Banshees fog/mist effect still works. Maybe CF is starting to put a focus on their themed coasters as they know they’ll last much longer (for the most part) than any current ride. 21. It seemed out of the way things were going lol... Side note we will be at the park on Saturday and will be taking our DSLR camera, and as unstable as I feel on the ET, will get some new shots of the construction site to add more

  22. I think that would certainly help, though I wouldn't hold my breath for anything crazy for a complete redo. The simple painting of the visible side of the barn certainly helps with the immersion already! It was a detail I didn't realize we needed, but since the building was visible, it certainly helps. Especially since this new ride seems to be related in theme to FOF. I'm glad CF is continuing the trend of soft theming for their rides.

  24. Seriously though just wanted to join in on the conversation. Been going to PKI since I was a kid, still remember riding The Racer a few times one day with my dad, then they must have had a shift change and the guy measured me and said I was too short. Both sides front wards and backwards started chanting "LET HIM RIDE, LET HIM RIDE, LET HIM RIDE" was a crazy feeling everyone looking at me and my dad and chanting. He let me ride too lol

  30. If it is the 15th or 16th, the announcement date will probably be announced sometime this week. With Mystic Timbers, they set the date about nine days in advance, so I see them announcing the date very soon! Assuming it is the 15th, I could see them announcing the date tomorrow on their social media and sending teasers to local news stations. That would line up with the timeline of Mystic Timbers. The 15th is also a Thursday, so that matches up to!

  31. I'm a tad bit confused about Zombie Mall too (as I thought that would mean Killmart would be no more), but I wonder if Coney Maul will be more concentrated to one part and then the Zombies will be down at the other half (near Vortex, Killmart and Urgent Scare). Drums of the Dead sounds intriguing and Shipwrecked sounds really cool; I wonder if there will be pirates! Overall, it sounds like with some of these scarezones, they are naming/theming areas of the park where roamers just hung out (for example, Rivertown proper will likely be Rivertown Reaping (Pumpkin Eater is on Backlot's path). Also, I'm glad Chaos is back this year and I wonder why they didn't capitalize on using the Antique Autos as a Haunt attraction...

  32. Or they could coat the tunnel with Vantablack (A substance that absorbs 99.965% of light) and it could take the record for "Worlds Darkest Tunnel".

  33. What about a black hole? What if there is a tunnel that is pitch black......like a black hole?

  34. I just turned on the countdown clock for Haunt at the top of the page.

  35. Don't call it a tunnel, make it a wormhole. WORMHOLE : a hypothetical structure of space-time envisioned as a tunnel connecting points that are separated in space and time

  36. If they don't put in a tunnel imo they are missing out. A tunnel would go well with a space style themed coaster.

  37. What I would love is a tunnel at the bottom of the first drop similar to Leviathan. Above ground since it would be on the blueprints if it were underground.

  41. Waiting for some kind of word to come out and notice something. They use two different roller coasters this morning on social media platforms, but have the same models on both front seats.

  42. Do you guys think they will refresh/redo Flight of Fear if they continue the space/alien theme over to the new coaster? I love the 1990s look of FoF, but was curious if they would give it a new coat of paint to bring new life into the area?

  43. They didn't go down they got lost in transition. Paramount Kings Island was a Theme park with rides based on their movies being that it was a production company so themed rides were their forte. When Cedar Fair bought Ki by choice or not they didn't keep the licensing needed to keep the movie themed rides as they were. Cedar Fair is a Thrill park known for bigger, bolder, faster; breaking records with rides. Theming isn't their forte, beyond a color scheme and name, Mystic Timbers shows that theming is outside Cedar Fairs comfort zone. MT is still awesome of an attempt at theming but the"story" was kind lost on me. So when they removed all the licensing the rides didn't make any coherent sense anymore. CF should have just taken tomb raider out of its shell as the ride itself fit very well in cfs record breaking theme as it was the world's only giant top spin in existence. Had they just taken out the liscensed stuff and the building it would have stayed. But as the crypt it just no longer made sense and it lost its ridership and therefore no longer worth keeping. Ki it's a unique child of the Cedar Fair family because it came themed and over the years it's starting to fit more in as a Thrill park and less of a theme park. So I think the new giga will have a nice color scheme and name and maybe a slight story to fit in with the area but that's about it.
