  1. So, let me get this straight. KI just announced a $30million capitol expenditure... a Monster coaster... biggest in parks history... exactly what “enthusiasts” have spent years crying for... at a time when NO other park has announced anything remotely on par... and said enthusiasts are complaining about it? Typical I may have to take the off season... off. From the beginning of the “speculation” it’s been an onslaught of negative, cry baby entitled “opinions.” Frankly, I cant wait to ride it. I absolutely love KI, and the people overseeing the park are doing a stellar - STELLAR- job of elevating it to be one of the best parks in the world. All the naysayers should get marked with a crimson “A”... so they’ll all stand out in line... which they’ll no doubt be clamoring to ride come next spring.

  3. Just because members here were singing the authors praises in a previous article, does not mean members can not disagree with them in this article. If it rides close to Fury, I could not be happier we are getting this coaster at Kings Island. Does in the grand scheme of things matter what classification the park or manufactured gives it? People are making a big deal out of an adjective.

  4. Maybe we shouldn't judge a coaster by what it is, but instead how it actually rides?

  5. Steel costs about twice as much now as when Fury was being constructed. Looking at it that way, it's great we're getting ours before such large coasters become uneconomical for seasonal parks. https://tradingeconomics.com/commodity/steel Using the terrain to the ride's advantage is a win in my book. He's entitled to his personal opinion, as wrong as it may be. That said, the author's fixation on contradicting the park on their own classification is deeply embarrassing, and this group's "editorial" staff should have helped him realize that. Publishing drivel like this reflects badly on all enthusiasts, which is why a lot of us are upset about it.

  6. I regret even bothering to click the link. Whomever this guy is is nothing more than an entitled baby who totally missed the mark when it comes to what this business is all about. I get that this clown isn’t on their staff but their “editors” clearly read it and published it. It’s going to be hard to respect coaster-net again. I hope to God that the powers that be see this and make for darn sure that no one for that site is invited to media day. This guy shouldn’t be on the internet. He should be at home playing with crayons.

  8. I’m all about everyone having an option. I just think that it’s very questionable when the question is, “Is Kings Island’s coaster a giga or not?” and the conclusion is that it’s not a real giga so he wouldn’t make the effort to go there because there are REAL gigas to ride. I know I was a little harsh with my initial post, but there was a time from like 2003 until 2009 that was REALLY bad and being labeled a coaster enthusiast was a terrible thing. You’d give an inch, they take a mile; you have four loops, they wondered why you didn’t the didn’t throw in a fifth; you have an hour of ERT on The Beast and they wondered why they didn’t get an hour on The Racer too. I was just talking to some people and we were surprised how much the community had evolved. It’s now families who enjoy the hobby together. It is both people in and out of the industry sharing in a passion, embracing friendships, and creating lasting memories. I just feel like this whole rant was just a huge step backwards.

  9. Here's my take. We get everyone together and dig a hole under the peak of Orion's lift that is 81' deep. Now we have the tallest giga in the world at 368'. The we take the dirt from that hole and build a 40' hill under Fury's lift, 10' under Leviathin's and the rest under Millie. Now we have the only "giga" in north America. I mean it would cost to much to ship the dirt to Japan for steel dragon. But hey with my plan, Orion is now the only "true giga" as well as tallest in the world by this definition. That is how stupid this argument is. People are arguing this thing isn't a giga because of a stat that could change with a backhoe and 30 mins of excavation. Drop is the most important stat anyway. I've yet to met a single person sya that the observation platform of the ET is more thrilling and exciting than the first drop of Diamondback.

  10. Depending on how far we can see on it at least... Good thing about the off-season, we can fly 500 feet lower. :-)

  14. He clearly contradicted himself. Article 1 - We are in it for the fun. Everyone has a bad attitude. Article 2 - I’m not bothering to ride this because it’s not a real giga. This latest article just shows that this clown is part of the problem that he was talking about.

  17. I still feel like it's weird that the lift hills for Orion and Diamondback will both be facing the exact same direction. That's going to look so strange on the skyline and is doing nothing to help quiet the GP's obvious 'just a bigger Diamondback' commentary. Some people have suggested they might not have wanted to make it bigger than Eiffel Tower because of how that would affect the skyline, but it doesn't seem like they're giving that much consideration.

  19. I like that they are trying to preserve as many trees as possible with this layout compared to Diamondback where they seemingly just took out everything in a half mile radius. Obviously a lot trees were still taken out but it doesn't appear that they are taking anything out that is not necessary.

  25. Said it before and I’ll say it again: if you want to be pedantic and set yourself as the judge of the only “acceptable” definition for a term that is actually defined by how people use it, not any sort of governing body, then fine. It’s not the shortest Giga. It’s the tallest Hyper. Now, go find someone who is actually impressed by your “superior knowledge.”

  26. That picture reminds me how much I hate those sun shades. They have NOTHING to do with the context and look of “Rivertown”. Wish they would replace with something like a wood pergola or metal roofed building.

  27. I feel that this is relevant again. Don't need to provide a link as it's my photo and my meme. Maybe they'll add a bathroom one day. They can put 300 stalls in it so we can have a real Giga in that area. (Joking, BTW. Orion is a real Giga and anyone who disagrees is extremely pedantic and probably a blast at parties)

  28. Despite the negative comments, Orion287 will be a popular ride and I suspect its ridership will exceed that of Fury325. Look at the disappointment in so many from Mystic Timbers at KI and Maverick at CP at their respective announcements and off-season until the ride could be rode. Many people consider these the best ride in their respective park. I don't know if this one will take that unofficial title, but it will come close. Am I going to ride and love the addition to the park - ABSOLUTELY!!! Would I have made some modifications if I were in charge - absolutely... Personally, I would have liked to have seen them shave some height off of the 202 foot and/or 174 foot hill (does it really need two hills above 200 feet?) and added 13 feet to the first hill to make it at least 300 feet - probably could have even saved money then. Give us some ejector air and remove the whole "is this a giga" debate altogether! Taking this whole height/drop thing further, based on the whole meteor impacting video, and given they are dropping more than the height, I would have rather seen the ride be named/based off a meteor and imagine the theming dropping into a crater (that would not have been that expensive in theming on the ground), maybe have it go underground a bit right there and then be a terrain coaster so that from most of the park all you really see is the first hill and then light up the drop to look like a meteor/shooting star - so the light package would be on the drop and not the lift! and with a camera at the end of the first drop it would look like an impact flash at night! The speed of that, along with the perceived speed increase being low to the ground flying past trees would be incredible. Now the reason I believe this wasn't a terrain coaster and why my suggestion wouldn't work with ejector air lies in the restraint system of the current B&M train. Not many people realize this unless they have rode it or talked to people or looked at off-ride video, but Intimidator305 (I305), which many call one of the most intense coasters out there, and certainly the most intense giga, has over the shoulder restraints. Think about that for a second - a roller coaster with no inversions or loops has over the shoulder restraints. There are probably more looping roller coasters without over the shoulder restraints than there are non-looping coasters with over the shoulder restraints. If our coaster was a terrain coaster, the restraints would have needed redesign. I believe B&M will save that redesign of their trains for a world record beater when and if that ever happens... At the end of the day, after months of people complaining during the off-season (which there are just a certain percentage of complainers regardless), come April those thoughts will mainly turn into cheer and joys for the fun and excitement of this coaster. It will be a re-ride machine.

  29. I'm my experience, the earlier in the season you can get to CP, do so... We went on June 10th and our longest wait, was for SV about 45 minutes... However 'do to the nature of the restraints' i.e. I'm on the bigger side, I got WOS off most everything... My wife and kids however were able to get on what was up and running pretty quickly... If you give it another chance, and I suggest you do, visit earlier in the season... Or, I know the prices can get salty, go for FLP at least for the visit... My day was pretty bad after the first 3 WOS off rides I didnt try anything else... To be fair, I should have checked test seats before hand, but lesson learned...

  30. Hey now, technically it’s NOT a giga anyway. B&M simply doesn’t use that classification.

  31. I get what you're saying. But, I feel most of the disappointment stems from there not really being anything new with this coaster. Yes, most us will ride and enjoy it. However, they def could've done a better job with this. A record breaker wasn't needed IMO. But, I def see where alot of the disappointment comes from.

  32. So it's funny when people state that it's a bigger Diamondback. So what if it is? It's a new dang coaster! >=D That's like saying MT is a smaller Beast. People are just goofs these days. Lmao xD a good comp, is that I don't remember anyone saying SoB was just another Beast? I know there was the loop, but this is still a groundbreaker for KI in terms of speed... Which I guess some people don't like? Baffling.. -.-

  33. I get what you're saying. My point is this. Would Fury be any less of a ride experience if the ground under the lift were 30 feet higher. Same drop and remainder of the coaster bsing the same. I'm holding off any judgment on Orion until I ride it. At this point I guess I'm at an "advantage" over others. I have not had the opportunity to ride Fury or Leviathan. Therefore I can only compare pov videos. Fury looks amazing and then kinda fizzles out. Levi looks good. Orion looks like it'll be full out from drop to brakes. That fan turn looks sick. Can't wait to ride them all. Not comparing I305 or Millie intentionally. Going foot a straight apples to apples comparison. Those 2 look awesome as well

  34. To be fair man that won't solve anything and I know what your saying is a joke. I think the reason why people were disappointed was that we usually expect more from Cedar Fair, Since MF every Giga they built after the next has had a gradual improvement in innovation. Yes, Drop is more important than Height, I know everyone would rather have a 278 ft Lift with a 300 ft drop, then a 310 lift hill with 295 ft drop. Though, Cedar Fair has always seemed to try to 1 up itself, We have just expected it from them at this point. I don't think people would have had this much of an issue with the height if Orion was at least 300 ft. Since I-305, CF has been slowly pushing the heights of the Giga. The height difference from 325 to 287 is somewhat shocking. Again I don't think the height is the soul issue people are having with this ride, I think people might have been caught off guard with the length. Again, Fury 325 set peoples expectations for this ride so high. I feel like even if CF added 2 more small, low to the ground elements after where the current break run is, that would have suppressed some peoples criticism towards the ride. I think people were not even expecting the hugest record-breaker, They just expected something as big or a tad bigger than Fury. Also, I think the overall stats of Orion are playing a big part on the hate. Stats aren't everything when it comes to a Coaster, stats can be misleading, but enthusiast LOVE stats. That's the easiest explanation of why this ride hasn't received the most positive reviews at the moment. Because stat wise this coaster undoubtedly took a step back from Fury. Think about it, the only thing people can judge this ride of is Stats, POVs and the other Gigas that are currently relatable to this ride, which are of course are Fury and Leviathan. The truth is that most people are looking at this ride and judging it on how statistically it isn't "as impressive" as either the rides I previously mentioned above. Again, nobody knows how this ride we truly come out, It could just prove us all wrong in be the Best Coaster in the world. But we can't get overly mad at some people being critical. Our first initial opinions might hold little to no weight 8 months from now...

  35. No coaster is worth waiting 4 hours. I never wait in line for a down coaster, there are so many other great coasters to ride and just watch for when they start testing.

  36. I don’t know any official stats but I find MF to be one of the more reliable coasters in the park, even above the B&Ms. But yeah it goes down occasionally, like all coasters do. I can recall only one time when it was down all day so there is a really good chance you can a ride it today. What have you accomplished so far? (and dude, ask CP questions in a CP thread )

  38. At the end of the day it’s his opinion and kudos to him for writing about it. However, when he responds on Twitter with “Logic and reason cannot be used in a coaster debate. Please come up with something else.” That is all you need to know about the type of person he his. No reason to even argue with someone like that. When you have hyper coasters like phantoms revenge that only have a hyper hill and then you have magnum only with a hyper lift it clearly shows amusement parks agree it can be either way. When someone wants to disagree with that logic there is no use but hey kudos to him for writing about what he wants to believe. Also he technically only being “ostracized” on this site which is a Kings Island forum so why would you actually create an account to defend him of course everyone on here would disagree with him.

  39. does anybody else think Kings Island could've put "first subterranean giga coaster" in the announcement video?

  40. He didn't ask that question. So I answered with input about the lines for Diamondback and Banshee. He said he expected the lines for Orion to be similar to those rides during their opening season. From my experience, both Banshee and DB had a lot of walk ons throughout their first season.

  46. Also, I've suggested before that I think it would be great to start a thread of shame on here, where we post pictures of smokers that are outside the smoking areas... So maybe we should do that in this thread? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk What would be the point of a thread of shame on KIC? We know the rules, I'm assuming most KICers follow the rules.
