I've been meaning to post these but I keep forgetting. I took these the day that the lift hill was finished. I also apologize that there are 17 photos but I thought that I should share all of my best shots! Im so glad I found this community! I always just looked at the posts, starting with the 'Decoding 2020' I never thought I'd be involved in the actual content. I appreciate whenever I get lots of likes on my posts! It makes me feel like a bigger part of the community and y'all are the best! Like I've said, I will be taking pictures like this til its done! (I hope to get pics when they start running test cars xD )17 points

The drop on Orion will feel more sudden for sure. It looks like it drops more suddenly then is indeed more steep. It should be a ton more airtime and a drop feeling, and the speed will be nearly as fast though I do anticipate Fury to still be faster of course. But Orion should feel more intense initially. Also the next hill should be awesome on Orion and the Turnaround is higher than any other hill on Fury but I am possibly mistaken there.6 points

Fury's drop is 320' making for a 20' difference. Whether that 20' is perceptible would be up for debate, probably ever so slightly. But the steeper angle should make more of a difference!5 points

I am thinking a nice sized RMC would look great in that area!5 points

Not to steal Orion's thunder but Steel Vengeance last year did this same thing for me. I had not been to any amusement parks in almost 14 years and I had to go Ride it. I bought my first platinum pass last fall because of it. Went to Kings Island for Haunt and Winterfest 18. Now here I am with Season fastlane for the chain, platinum, meal and dining plans and I may buy lockers too. I went to 5 parks this year for a total of about 25 visits. I can't wait to ride Onion on passholder preview night. I just wish there was a way I could go to media day but that's unlikely as I am not media and don't know anybody with this connections.2 points

Looking forward to Chapter 2 of this saga where everyone loses their minds that they haven't panned the camera to the right to see the rest of the ride being built.2 points

Sorry for double post! I'm not sure if this is a problem or not, but, I made a FaceBook page to post all of my photos on so i'm not filling up an entire page of photos and only post a few. I will provide a link below. It will take some time for me to filter out my best pictures, but I hope to be adding to them regularly so make sure to check it out! I will of course post my very best shots here!! Here's the link to my page! https://www.facebook.com/The-Coaster-Nerd-114764029969283/?view_public_for=1147640299692832 points

I'm thinking KD's choice to go with a wing coaster might indicate that they want their next next coaster to be as different as possible from their other B&M looper (Dominator - floorless). Conversely, this is why I think B&M dive makes the most sense for KI, in that it'd differentiate from Banshee more than a wing would. As much as I enjoy Floorless coasters (and I even like Rougarou), I think I like Dives even more, and it would cross off the 90 degree box the park is missing, and potentially tack on another 200 ft+ coaster. Most dives have floorless trains anyway, so you'd have two marketable gimmicks in one. (Note: I don't say "gimmick" in a pejorative sense here. I think both floorless trains and vertical drops are actually just really fun elements)2 points

I'd have to agree with this. As intriguing as it'd be to see a Gerstlauer come to the park, even if just to change it up a bit, I also think it'd be best just go with B&M for the dive. It'd fill the space better, be about 50% higher capacity than an Infinity, and probably, would just be a better ride anyway.2 points

If I'm being completely honest, (and forgive me if this comes off a little negative, especially this late in the game), what we're seeing right now is precisely why I was never on board with the whole "you won't notice 13ft" argument. With the elevation disadvantage, paired with its placement in the back left of the park, I think were beginning to see that it really could have used all the height it can get in order to appear more imposing onto the rest of the park. Or at least, its a slippery slope. I would say that it was never so much about 13 ft as much as it is about 20-30 ft, given the expectation that it was going to clear 300 ft by at least some amount, even if by just 5-10 ft. Having it at 300 flat was kind of pushing it to begin with, but take away an additional 13 ft? And yes, I do think it results in a noticeable discrepancy between this and previous gigas... However, on the other hand (and this is positive), I'm starting to think that what is lessening the ride visually (placement), will end up enhancing the ride from an experience standpoint. Come to think of it, I never wanted this to be a parking lot coaster anyway, so I'm actually glad to see it break from Fury and Leviathan in that regard. Sure, it won't be as immediately noticeable at the front of the park, in the way the aforementioned B&M gigas are... But if better night rides/seclusion come at the slight expense of imposition onto the rest of the park, then that is an A-ok tradeoff in my view! Think about it. Would you rather be riding past a mundane ocean of concrete, traffic lines, and car light glare, OR flying through the trees and foliage of the dark Ohio woods after sundown? I think you know my pick...2 points

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? I'm thinking a ground up RMC like Twisted Timbers at Kings Dominion, but longer to accommodate 3 trains. Have the back to back loops like Vortex had to pay tribute to Vortex. That's my vote.2 points

That was part of the fun of the Banshee cam. You could see the entire ride from the camera's position so it felt significantly less pointless.1 point

Yep. “Can’t they just nudge the camera to the right a little?” Not gonna happen. That web cam will be where it is for years.1 point

You are correct. I should have put completion of the tower light testing for WF seems to have coincided with the cams coming back online. I hate it when I forget it's crazy important for posts to be spot on for everyone to understand.1 point

I don't see FoF being removed anytime soon since I would imagine that ridership will increase because of Orion.1 point

It's interesting that, based off the Weatherbug cameras, the orange and black flags on the International Street buildings were replaced by the original country flags. Not complaining, just an interesting thing to point out because the original Winterfest switched the flags out for red and green-striped ones.1 point

So I assume they will put the chain on next correct? They will need multiple large cranes for that.1 point

You are almost certainly 100% wrong on this...sorry. The webcams are most likely just fed to the Internet straight-up, more or less. The security camera system is much more involved with VLAN's and such...plus more. It's completely possible the same switches that power the webcams power some of the security cams...and if the switches are down both COULD theoretically be down. But I can promise you they are not all a part of the same software setup. Honestly with the park closed I'd believe just about anything. Many switches might be down. Security camera's might be down, so what---the park is closed, and they still have other security measures in place. I would also believe it if you told me they upgraded their network, and just haven't gotten around to setting up the webcams yet. I more or less know what has to be done, but I don't work there, don't know how beefy their IT staff is, and don't know where they are on their priority list. But I'm guessing the webcams are bottom-of-the-barrel as concerns day-to-day operations.1 point

Me too. you can spot it from very far away, almost when you can first make out the Eiffel Tower from a distance and it looks way bigger in real life.1 point

I have to say, I've never been more excited for Orion until I drove by tonight. Seeing the lift hill complete was incredible. It's amazing seeing it loom behind Diamondback when you're getting off the exit. That's going to be one heck of a drop.1 point

It has now been three weeks for what is apparently “software upgrades”. The Kings Island IT staff looks incredibly inept right now.1 point

I love seeing all of this old stuff in one thread. Here are a couple of my own photo trip reports from back in the day. (I can’t believe that the photos are still being hosted somewhere after all these years.) On another recent thread, @BeastForever was wondering why some people would throw around things like “this site ain’t what it used to be”...I think some of the above things, and these trip reports are an example of why some of us miss the “good old days”. I would count KIC Day as one of the best days of my (arguably pathetic) life...I made some friendships that day that have lasted all these years. KIC Day Photo Trip Report (2008) Then, with the relationship still going strong between the park, and this site we were given an off season event! standbyme’s Blues Party PTR (2009) And here is @Gordon Bombay’s excellent trip report for the same event...I wish the photos were still visible...hint hint!) Battling the Off Season Blues - The Day in Photos Good times! I miss a lot of our past members. For the record, I am not saying that we all got along back then...just like every “family”, people argued...but it did seem like we were at least more of a cohesive unit than we are now. And also for the record, I appreciate quite a bit of you “newer posters” that have tried to keep this spirit alive over the past few years. (I gave up for a few years and just lurked because I didn’t think it was worth trying to keep a presence going on here.) I am glad that your passion for the park has kept this site going... I really need my daily Kings Island fix! It would be nice if everyone could meet face to face again like this again..I think it’s a lot harder to be mean/disrespectful to someone once you can put a face to the name and know what they are actually like. One last “shout out”... I think Brad @IndyGuy4KI & @malem are doing an excellent job at moderating! It’s got to be a nightmare of a job trying to please both us and the park...I know most of us appreciate it. (At least the ones of us who aren’t jerks do...just kidding, just kidding. )1 point

Hang time is ok... But compared to a big dive coaster like valraven or Yukon striker it's underwhelming and lacks the major thrill of a dive coaster. If they go dive, they should commit and stick with B&M. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk1 point

I drive past the park to and from work everyday. It's been amazing to watch this coaster being built. That first drop is going to be insane! I got to ride both Fury and Intimidator 305 this past summer. That drop looks comparable to both of those. I'm beyond happy that we have own own 300 foot drop at last!1 point
