  2. Agreed looks like it's about to go back up for the speed hill. That turn looking much more aggressive than on the POV videos.

  3. That speed hill might be one of the greatest airtime moments. It's my most anticipated part tied with the drop.

  4. So, to be clear on the web cams being moved... I highly doubt the concern is that the demolition of Vortex poses any type of risk of an accident or whatever. In fact, I'd be willing to bet that the razing of a ride is often less dangerous than building. When Vortex comes down, it comes down how they want it to, when they want it to, where they want it to. They are very good at what they do. Building a ride consists of people literally 300' in the air screwing in bolts. That just sounds far more dangerous to me, The truth is, the park is within the right to point the web cams where they want. They simply have a much bigger benefit from people looking forward to 2020 rather than backwards. They want you (and the news media, which you influence) talking about the next hill going up rather than the next hill coming down... no pun intended. Is it fair? Not really. I'd be fascinated to see the structure come down. Almost a morbid curiosity. But at the same time. Not my park, not my web cams. I'm just glad we have the one facing Orion positioned in a way in which you can see the whole ride still. I was worried about only having the hill again, which would make for a boring couple of months!

  5. I definitely am not complaining about this. In fact, I get pretty upset when people complain about Orion just because of how there are parks out there who would die for something like this. Not everything has to smash records.

  6. I second this. I think the Giga looks fantastic and is going to be a great ride. That turnaround looks crazy, the second hill looks crazy, the 85° drop will feel amazing. I think it is far from a lackluster out and back layout. Yeah sure it is short but I doubt that is going to matter. I think it will make you wanting more and get you to ride over and over again.

  7. Pantheon's been number 1 on our 2020 wish list since it was announced with Iron Gwazi number 2 and Orion coming in 3rd. On topic, now that we have the turnaround almost completed, how are those here comparing it to Fury's turnaround? Obviously it is in reverse and doesnt have that dip going into the peak, but it does look like it is more aggressively profiled at 45 feet taller. I think its going to be hard even at behind the scene events to get a angle to manipulate the perspective to get it to look like a treble cleft or ampersand regardless for a more apples to apples comparison. I grabbed a screenshot from the last KI video for comparison as this is an angle none of us could have legally gotten at this time.

  8. I'm pretty sure that the Diamondback cam of today is a completely different camera than the original one that was installed. If I recall correctly, the Diamondback construction cam was not a live camera and was a cam that only updated every few minutes or so.

  9. On the grand scale, yes. When it comes to KI, they come here for news story ideas. Trust me. It used to be my problem.

  10. If anyone has been back by the first or second drop, the track literally lays down on the ground. I think it’s a cool effect. Honestly, without feeling the effects yet of course, I’d almost rather have a 300’ drop to an elevation of 0 rather than a height of 300’ and a drop down to 14’. I think it’s going to be really cool!

  11. Management said " You want webcams, we will give you webcams. We never said would you would be able to see anything with them...."que the Dr Evil laugh Of course that is my though on it, as they are up there smearing a little mud or Vaseline on the dome.

  12. I visited KI 5 times this year. Had a blast every time. Vortex was a favorite growing up. I'm happy I got to ride it during the final season again. That was cool. Before this year I hadn't been on a coaster in 22 years because I wouldn't fit. Dropped half my weight and changed my life. Also visited KD, Kennywood, Hersheypark, CP, Carowinds, SFoG, KK, HW, Knotts, Strickers, Lake Winnie, Dollywood, SFMM. What a year. Fit on everything without a problem. Can't wait for 2020 and Orion. And many others.

  13. Just wait a few days. I'm sure we'll get a 240p video of some demolition crew member laughing while the lift hill crumbles to the ground.

The first 3,000 fans in attendance will receive a Justin Vaive riding The Beast bobblehead. https://cycloneshockey.com/game/2020/02/28/cincinnati-beasts-night?fbclid=IwAR3eKBsDr7xk_covpChGXvAWjuwxebRWghpFAHjItQMzm1qi1pqLfrJefAE

  15. You are correct. It's also the lesser of 2 evils. Ideally they'd point the camera more northward, but that would put a lot of non-property in view, which is just asking for trouble.

  16. I don't think the Diamondback cam having a haze to it is intentional. I think it just got junk on it a long time ago and no one has ever cleaned it off. The cams are very standard. Not junk. Not great. They serve their purpose. Also, there is far more of an art to choosing where to point the cameras, especially when the park is open. Ever notice how you can't really see people, for the most part? That's simply because they don't want you looking at the web cams and saying, "Nah. Park's busy today. I'll pass." Same principle as not seeing ride wait times until you're in the park. I know that people like "you" (as in, most of you guys and gals) can probably judge how busy the park is based off of seeing sections of the Diamondback or Banshee line, but the vast majority can't.

  17. just wait till testing starts and cams go down again.

  18. Here's proof, at the very beginning of the Banshee construction time lapse, the camera is tilted just enough to see people walking around. Keep in mind this is the exact same webcam as the Orion webcam.

  21. Above I believe, if you look at the Diamondback cam you can see the guard railing for the roof.

  29. @Hawaiian Coasters 325 I completely agree. I also think that people should be thankful for what we have instad of what we don't. So what if we don't have the worlds (INSERT RECORD)? Look at what we already have!!! We have Racers, The Beast, Diamondback, Banshee, Mystic Timbers, and Orion. Kings Island has an incredible line up of not just roller coasters, but other rides as well. Again, we should be happy for what we already have.

  30. Without zooming in, you can see the Diamondback quite well, but The Vortex is foggy. Someone or something placed the smudge just perfectly.

  31. Top is November 2019 and bottom is today, the fog on the cam is crazy now

  32. On the other hand, I will own the role of the enthusiast who is excited to have Orion join our line-up. Kings Island has not disappointed me with their improvement decisions, even if I don't partake in them (waterpark and Planet Snoopy). I truly think the best is yet to come, based on what I have seen from 2017 on.

  33. Pantheon's outer banked turn was just completed and it looks INSANE...many enthusiasts are focused on Iron Gwazi and sleeping on Pantheon. I still think Orion is gonna be a pleasant surprise for everyone, however.

  36. Is it fine if I set one of these as my background picture? I would love to see this kind of lighting on the real thing! Amazing job. I also loved where you put the picture camera and the flashing catwalk lights, sort of gives me a nice feeling of Vortex.

  40. [insert cliche "where do I begin" response here] 2019 was an extraordinary end to a decade, an era, and arguably the best chapter of my whole life. I rode Vortex a whopping 536 times in 2019, including six milestones. Compare that to 2018 when I rode *only* 192 1/3 times and 2017 when I rode just 176 times. My third and final season as a WindSeeker/Vortex ride op was amazing as I got to live my teenage dream of driving Vortex for one more season, and of course test ride countless times. I ended up breaking two records - highest documented ride total on Vortex at 1221 1/3 (emphasis on documented as I know people have ridden it many times more but didn't keep count) and highest single day ride count on Vortex (93 rides on August 9, 2019, up from the previous record of 66). It's pretty cool when considering the ride held two world records when it first opened, and it closed with me holding two records of my own! I'm so blessed to be able to say I was one of Vortex's final riders, on both the last public train with the original crew and second-to-last train EVER alongside my crewmates (go give my Closing Day TR a read if you haven't already!)! At the same time, many things began, from my 5-year-old nephew's and 3-year-old niece's first visit ever to Kings Island, to the start of my current job in Tech Services -- a major step closer to my next "dream job" of working in Rides Maintenance -- which was not easy to attain. To cap it all off, I and several dozen fellow fans were standing right next to Vortex when the clock struck midnight on New Year's Eve. We watched the fireworks and said one last goodbye to Vortex as part of our saying hello to a new year. I hope I remember 2019 for as long as I possibly can. -BFF, who did her absolute best to condense this into a short-and-sweet tip-of-the-iceberg post instead of a novel. You're welcome.

  50. “Nothing” in the works? You’re probably right. They have some vague idea. Much of this involves looking well ahead. Plans change. A lot. They know this. I’ve heard things from people who were directly involved with projects and they ended up not happening. Even I was involved in a project and a big part of it was cut at the 11th hour. That’s just the nature of The Beast... no pun intended. There will be a replacement for Vortex, just don’t hold your breath.
