  1. I say make a SOB flame type thing for Vortex only more 80s in design with lots of neon or LED lights. One other thing I'll miss at night is seeing Vortex's chaser lights.

  2. I'd personally love to see a sign celebrating Vortex, similar to what Kings Dominion erected after Volcano was removed. The ride may be gone, but 33 seasons of memories will live on for a very long time.

  6. Stumbled on this on Twitter... it appears that Kings Island may be selling a small sliver of land adjacent to Kings High School to the school district. The land is currently undeveloped (and much of it cannot be developed due to topography), but would be used by the school for its sports fields and storm water management. Area of interest on Google Maps: https://goo.gl/maps/EHugudjSg3MqVpRt9 I cannot find any additional information on this, but thought it was interesting. Does anyone know more? Also, an interesting aside... the map appears to still show the park's former Monorail, which was removed after the 1993 season. That land is now vacant.

  7. Maybe they will turn it into a junkyard. You know, to fit the theming across the path.

  10. Tim Fisher was general manager when Son of Beast was built, but it was Al Weber that greenlit the ride in the first place. The decision to remove Vortex was more of the ride reaching the end of its lifespan than it was an attempt to modernize the park.

  11. I have a question. Will we walk by all season and look at the ravine, or will they put up a fence to block the ravaged area where the murder occurred? It would take a bunch if fence to hide the area.

  12. And so it ends. Thanks again to everyone who is local to the park for providing updates over the last several weeks. There won't be another coaster (good or bad) like Vortex. She was one of kind.

  13. Please no. I do not think KI needs a Ferris Wheel. We need a coaster to replace Vortex.

  14. Not surprising. Kings Local Schools is my local school district and they are running out of room for students and are currently trying to get a bond issue passed to be able to do some big projects.

  15. Kings Island Inn. I know it turned into a hell hole in the end, but it was great when the park first started. The bus pulled up right up to the front entrance. If KI would build their own hotel right on the park where you could walk right in like Breakers at CP, that would be great.

  17. I'm hopeful to see closure and the park releasing a video within the next few days. I know the park is celebrating Orion's first test runs and achievements, but some closure is needed on Vortex still. Just think... Orion tested while parts of Vortex were still standing tall.

  21. MY THOUGHTS EXACTLY!!!!!! And for those wanting for a return of the Kings Island Inn, just have them buy Great Wolf Lodge. Its quite literally next door and it can be used year round AND its already built.

  23. I was thinking about this the other day (modernization), and realized Tim Fisher, who wanted to modernize KI when he was GM, is the COO of Cedar Fair. Probably no connection, but interesting nonetheless.

  25. I'll say it depends on how soon "next" gets underway. My guess is that strategically they are underway- but visual execution could be an unknown. They've known that Vortex's days were numbered for a while (it was 30+ years old and beyond the average life expectancy of peer coasters)- so they knew that sooner or later they were going to have a vacant ravine. My own opinion, with nothing to base it on, is that closing it in October 2019 was earlier than expected- but maybe by a year, maybe two. If next will be rolled out for 2021 I expect to see a fence this year. If beyond... it may be an open field- though it may depend on the level of debris leftover come opening day. All that said, it will be the largest large piece of empty (prime) real estate that one would walk past in a park. One that I don't expect to be vacant for long. Maybe not 2021- but I'd put a few chips in on 2022.

  27. All the time really. The Abyss and Robocop are amazing movies with great moments and brilliant scores. Personally, I think it's important for films to have a presence in both formats. Not everyone has the best internet available to them, sometimes there's outages, availability can just as finicky in digital market as in the physical market (as in that Amazon quietly stopped selling WB titles on Prime Video for a few weeks), apps/services are down (I'm looking at you X-Box Live) and also a lot of times it is simply cheaper to buy the physical media. The average digital price is between 9.99 and 14.99 for catalog titles*. The average price for a catalog title on DVD/Blu Ray is below 9.99 and you can often buy bundle collections. Also, I firmly believe a film should be available regardless of whether it is popular and I believe we should be supporting brick and mortar stores, especially books stores, another casualty of the digital market. *For reference, a catalog title is a title that is no longer hot, usually older (sometimes even by just a few years). For example, IT: Chapter Two, because it's current, wouldn't be considered a catalog title, but the original IT miniseries would.

  28. I just wish i could get my hands on a little piece of Vortex. It just hurts to see my favorite ride of all time to be removed. I just want one peice. A peice to forever remember Vortex. Thats all I want.

  29. I feel like if Vortex was resurrected as a Giga coaster, its name would be "Gigatex" lol Don't know why I felt like saying this, just figured people needed something to smile to considering today's developments.

  33. I am extremely excited to officially announce Kings Island: A Ride Through Time, authored by yours truly! This will be the first book ever written about the history of Kings Island! It will be released in early May 2020 by Theme Park Press to coincide with the opening of Orion and will feature exclusive interviews with the executives that have shaped the park through the years. I am very excited to share this news with you all, and to keep you updated through this process. I really can’t wait to share this book with the public next year!

  35. CP kinda needs a Ferris Wheel because of the lake side views and the lack of observation rides aside from WS. KI doesn't really need a Ferris Wheel unless you put it along the Coney Mall midway. At that point I'd rather bring back the skyride.

  36. IMO, a small one would be fine, but we do not need a giant wheel. We have 3 rides that give great views. No need for a Chance Giant wheel, but that is just me.

  38. The loss of Vortex definitely modernized the Kings Island skyline. The oldest steel coaster over 100 feet is Invertigo. In the back of my mind, Invertigo doesn't really count as a major part of the skyline, so after that it's Diamondback. Which is just... wild. On another note, since Vortex was pulled down in narrow sections, I'm hoping they were able to drop it within the ride path and preserve the sections of trees.

  39. Definitely Agree, Backlot and Adventure Express serve as great family coasters for those looking to move out of Planet Snoopy. Also the flame effect is always nice for the Haunt Fog. But I also agree that having the water effect return would be really nice. I know all the water effects and barrels were turn off on the second brake run, but does anyone know why they removed the final water splash or the on-ride audio system. Was there a water problem for the splash down or couldn't they have just made generic car noises and action music after the loss of the licensing?

  40. I would love to see backlot retheme however theming it to a junkyard wouldn’t be that good imo. My main gripe with this coaster is how ugly it is especially for a coaster that’s in the middle of the park. Theming it to a junkyard wouldn’t do a lot to fix this issue imo.

  41. ^ I'm over Shoot the rapids loss at Cedar Point. Since they removed it, they've cleaned up the area really well. I love how they put frontier fling in it's spot and in 2019 added Forbidden Frontier on the other half of the rides former concrete space. Since 2015, I've been a huge Rougarou fan at Cedar Point.
