  1. Shake, Rattle and Roll is considered Rivertown in the Rides department, but thematically it’s always been Coney Mall. Just like how the Eiffel Tower is on International Street, but Rides groups it into Planet Snoopy.

  2. Pretty sure I saw on a Cedar Point winter chill out video they had the panel and a brake from Vortex setup in one of the shops. The guy on the video kept setting it off. Staff said it was only running about 20% power and wouldn't be enough to stop a train at that moment. I thought it was cool they set it up and let people play with it.

  3. If historical trends continue, the dark ride will be due for a refresh in the coming years. Boo Blasters on Boo Hill will have outlived the original Enchanted Voyage to be the longest running ride theme in that building if it lasts into the 2022 anniversary season. I would be really happy if they figured out how to use Phantom Theater's original score in a re-imagined dark ride.

  4. We all just need to wait patiently. There's only just over a month and a half left until we all get to ride it. If the park wants to keep something from being viewed by the public we shouldn't be going out of our way to undermine that.

  5. They’ve asked us repeatedly. The fact they had to tweet out a think to tell us to get official information from KI’s official channels is a pretty good indication they don’t want us doing that regarding their construction projects. Just relax, watch Stranger Things, and wait the 6 weeks until opening.

  6. So in your mind, when the park says no they don’t want you to videotape them, you take that as a yes. That’s a very, very dangerous route to take. Just abide by the parks wishes.

  7. ^yeah that’s true if we’re talking about going over and being on park property, flying over park property anything like that. But if I want to set up a webcam at my house that’s facing Kings Island that has absolutely nothing to do with the park and there wishes. That’s my property and the park has no say about that. Absurd to think anything otherwise.

  8. Just because KI doesn’t have a webcam up and running, doesn’t mean you can film KI against there wishes. When the park says no, they mean it, no if’s, ands, or buts. The fact that some members of the enthusiast community want to act out against the park’s wishes is the reason why pages like park etiquette were formed. Just behave, and accept their no. This applies to life outside of theme parks as well.

  11. I also like to start unsubstantiated rumors due to vague references and this is my guess... I think we will get the monster truck experience and it may happen in the now empty plot that Vortex was in.

  14. I'd personally love to see a sign celebrating Vortex, similar to what Kings Dominion erected after Volcano was removed. The ride may be gone, but 33 seasons of memories will live on for a very long time.

  16. It is not right to position a camera on your property to spy on private property like Kings Island. It may be on YOUR property, but it is watching another. It is the same idea if you positioned a camera in your backyard, spying on your neighbors. Not only it is denying Kings Island to its right of privacy, but it is also none of your business. We are enthusiasts who have a good relationship with the park. Let’s keep it that way and give the Kings Island some privacy!

  23. Anniversaries, if promoted and celebrated, can sell themselves. I hadn't thought about an anniversary before and I won't say never, but now I don't see another coaster addition until 2023 at the earliest.

  24. I can not help, but to acknowledge the fact that 2022 is the parks 50th anniversary. Orion could be the addition to get the Giga check mark. Vortexs removal could be the long planned step to make way for something incredible for the parks 50th anniversary. Or not, they honestly didn't do much for CPs 150th as far as major rides are concerned.

  25. What is the definition of awhile I wonder? I am thinking maybe the 2023 season we would see something in that space. That is valuable land in the park to leave empty for too long. Also, that post makes me think that something forced the park to remove Vortex before they really wanted too.

  31. This is the KIC faux version of Mike Baxter, Man, writing to you today about that awkward phase all of us experience called, childhood. If you’re a boy of a certain age, you have memories of going to the local K-Mart, Hills, Jamesway, or the Sears Christmas Catalog (Z’ers… look them up) to find a plastic die-cast model car. My favorite was the 1985 Pontiac Fiero (look that one up too). The wheels didn’t operate too well and you couldn’t really play with them- but WOW did they look good from afar on a shelf with other similar toys. But as you aged from single digits and onto teen years you stopped building and figured it was time to start destroying, or in my case- demolition derbies and a random imitation M80 I could find in July. But you never forget the memories of building it with a dad or friends and comparing them with friends. We resonate with images, sounds, and excitement of the past… then for some reason unknown we like to watch their demise. The Sanders Hall implosion on the UC campus was televised all throughout Ohio. The Sands Casino implosion in Las Vegas was literally a tourist attraction (not that I ever went there). A big part of my childhood into adulthood was memories made at Riverfront Stadium watching the Wire-to-Wire Reds. I was there when one batter in, John McSherry collapsed and passed away. Barry Larkin’s 30/30 season. The 1999 season. Ken Griffey Jr.’s first game as a Red. The last game in Sept. 2002 where they lost to the Phil’s… and the next night to see Pete Rose dive into the Riverfront 3rd base for the first time in 15 years. Not to mention to see the remnants of the Big Red Machine gather at the Stadium one last time before it closed. Riverfront Stadium was 1 year younger than Vortex when it closed. In those rickety hollow Arrow tubes held the memories of riding the once tallest and loopiest coaster. Driving past on I-71 during the winter when it was the only thing other than the tower you could see until 1999 (Drop Zone/Tower). As trivial as a coaster can be- I’ll forever recall the sounds of the trains hitting the lift hill. No other coaster sounded like that… the rattle of the steel as it came over the LaRosas in Rivertown. Not to mention once assuring my girlfriend at the time that I had been on it many times before and that she would love it. Problem- I had never been on it- or any other coaster of significance up to that time. Boy, was that an awkward hour afterwards. With that- I can’t help but be somewhat disappointed that Cedar Fair had such a lock-down on The Vortex deconstruction. A common phrase I’ve heard is that with Orion- they want people to be looking to the future rather than the past. The Reds began advertising the implosion of Riverfront Stadium a year before it fell- and it was a tourist and media spectacle giving way to a new Reds era at Great American Ballpark. But it went out in “public” fashion for any/all to see. They have their reasons and it’s their company and their money- they certainly don’t need my opinion. I just disagree. Baxter, out.

  33. Maybe they will turn it into a junkyard. You know, to fit the theming across the path.

  34. I have a question. Will we walk by all season and look at the ravine, or will they put up a fence to block the ravaged area where the murder occurred? It would take a bunch if fence to hide the area.

  35. I have only been to Kings Island & Cedar Point among the Cedar Fair chain, so my options were a bit limited... Arrow: Magnum XL-200 B&M: Diamonbdack Note for B&M: Fury 325, Leviathan, and Orion all seem like I would enjoy them even more than Diamondback but I have not ridden any of those yet. Diamondback just edges out Raptor & Banshee of the B&Ms I have ridden as my current favorite from the company. Intamin: Maverick Wooden: The Beast (why isn't this a option? It is one of Cedar Fair's most famous and popular wooden coasters!) Vekoma: Firehawk (better than its only challenger, Invertigo)

  39. Totally off the poll, but I'll add my overall list is basically changing but 1 Beast 2a Banshee 2b Mystic Timbers 4 Diamondback 5 Racer (Backwards 4ever....god I wish they would do it again!) 6 Flight of Fear 7 Adventure Express at night 8 Stunt Driver 9 The Bat 11 Adventure Express at day 10 Beastie (Love the old name 4ev!) 11 Invertigo (Very scary on the lift hill and a crazy ride, but I don't really care for it too much at all.) Never rode orginal Bat or Screamin Demon that I can remember . Vortex would slot in before Stunt Driver or maybe tie with Flight of Fear. Son of Beast would slot in a tie with Banshee or right behind it but my wife hated its guts. It appealed to me as a former wrestler. It looked amazing and was the out of control ride I gravitate towards. King Cobra would be ahead of Adventure Express at day, but not at night, behind the existing Bat and perhaps even behind Beastie...it didn't do a whole lot and wasn't that fast. I must be forgetting a coaster or 2 am I? ANd
