  1. Low ridership? Don't be fooled by wait times. Adventure Express is a high capacity ride and annually ranks among the top attractions in the park for ridership.

  2. I honestly think that Adventure Express is the best Arrow Mine Train out there.

  3. AE is still a great ride. Sometimes people don't understand that families are more likely to come to park where there are things that the whole family can do just not the teens riding the extreme coasters. KI has enough land to accommodate both. It is also things like AE which are why IMO, CP may have a better overall coaster lineup but KI is a better overall park.

  4. It always seems to be forgotten, that a ride has an hourly capacity. That hourly capacity does not change whether the queue is full or if it's a 5-minute wait.

  5. The only RMC I want on The Racer is a topper track conversation. Or a complete gci retrack with gci millennium flyer trains. Sent from my Pixel 2 XL using Tapatalk

  6. I don’t really even like RMC hybrids nor do I want to see one come to the park. RMCs restraints are uncomfortable and their rides don’t seem to be high capacity. Not to mention their most recent conversions seem to have had a lot of issues. Kings Islands investments into high capacity and reliable rides is the way to go in my opinion.

  7. @DonHelbig, If you read this (I know a lot of people have said "If you read this" and stuff like that), but please DO NOT RMC Racer or The Beast. They are amazing coasters and RMC-ing them would (to me) completely ruin them. If the park ever decides its time to add one, just don't touch what we already have.

  9. Do people not remember that GCI has worked on Racer? Why would they need to bring in RMC? Look at what they did to Ghostrider at Knott's Berry Farm

  10. ^Those are some lovely curves on that turn around there. I'm hoping for some decent positive g's as it crests like Nitro pulls off.

  12. Uh, RMCing Adventure Express definitely qualifies as messing with it, which most definitely breaks the Eleventh Commandment.

  13. The fence is present around all low points of the ride to ensure rider and outside safety. This is a common practice on tons of rollercoasters. Notice of the fences only surround the troughs of the ride.

  14. I'm honestly surprised how many people are against an RMC of any type coming to Kings Island. Yes, I'm against a conversion of one of our wooden coasters, but I'm all for a ground up. But it's all the matter of opinion. I can understand why some people wouldn't like them because the restraints aren't the most comfortable.

  15. I definitely think that when looking at what coasters they should add down the line, make sure we keep height requirement in mind. If we are just building these massive b&m coasters that are 54", while it's good for us or the teens or people who are into big thrills, it's not good for the families who have young kids and want stuff the whole family can enjoy. I think another family coaster or a coaster that is 48" or less should either be the next coaster or the one after. Mystic Timbers was a good step in that direction. Plus KI just removed a coaster that has a 48" height requirement. So if they were to remove another 48" height requirement coaster and not replace it with a 48" height requirement or less, I think that wouldn't be the best for families with young kids who want stuff for the whole family.

  16. The company that made the commercial, Carbon VFX, did not work with Cedar Fair to make a Yukon striker or Copperhead strike commercial. Wouldn’t hold my breath on them making one for Orion.

  17. I agree. @DonHelbig if you guys were to get an RMC, I would love to see a ground up topper track that goes out into the woods (similar to Outlaw Run). However, I think we should all be happy with what we have and look forward to and enjoy Orion.

  18. Sorry I misread and was thinking of AE. Still, Racer doesn't need to be touched by RMC. It makes no sense at this point at its current state. Its not suprising that Don wouldn't comment on RMCing Racer. He holds the record for most rides on it, I'm sure he doesn't want them touching it. Why hire another company to work on it when GCI is already doing work on it?

  19. How can you RMC a coaster that's already a hybrid? That's like putting a hat on a hat

  20. I he won't. In fact, I remember at coasterstock a couple years ago when that kid asked Mike Koontz about RMCing Beast or Racer, when Don closed it out, he called out that kid lol.

  26. The Beast is such a classic coaster, with a familiar shake and rattle that I dont ever want to see RMC'd. That said, the layout for The Beast would be absolutely perfect for the RMC treatment, the amount of bunny hills they could construct with that foundation would be insane. id rather see them build a ground up, preferably in the space where Vortex is.

  27. I'll give you my two cents... There was a "turn" in the 80's when it seemed like KI became a bit more of a "teen" park rather than family focused. Because of that, I think some may look on that time as the period in which Kings Island was more interested in thrills rather than being an all-day entertaining, quality family experience. I attended KI many times during the "Linder Years"... I recall that it was still a good guest experience - clean, well managed etc. I do, however, distinctly recall that as I returned each season it seemed more and more rides went missing. Many (including myself in the past) have laid blame on the owners at the time - American Financial - for the fact that "original" rides disappeared during the tenure. Truth is, at least a few of those rides had just naturally worn out and there probably wasn't a lot they could do to salvage them. TMK American Financial didn't come in with a sweeping arm of change insisting rides be scrapped. (That was more Paramount's style) In reality, the park was still being managed by the same people (KECO) as had operated it in years prior... it was just owned by someone else. By this point, the park was nearing it's 20th anniversary, and many of the rides had probably "reached the end of their service life." (Sound familiar?) I vividly recall that during my visits to the park during the time period I noticed the wear and tear of certain aging attractions. For example, by the time it closed, Smurfs Enchanted Voyage was a dusty, rust-stained and overall unkempt ride. I certainly wish at least a few of the original/classic rides were still there. There's validity to the argument that rides of the same ilk at other parks have fared better. (Need an example? Just look at Kennywood's Turtle.) But from the start it was always Kings Island's moniker to not allow the park to stagnate. When KI was built, it was a nod to Coney Island and Cincinnati's past, but the new owners were adamant that it was to be it's very own unique park. (This actually caused a bit of an uproar among Cincinnati Coney Island purists that initially refused to go to KI when it opened out of protest.) Much to their credit, some major rides/attractions were added during the "Linder years." Vortex, Amazon Falls, Adventure Express, Waterworks, Phantom Theater even Top Gun (originally contracted by AF before the Paramount Agreement was signed) are all to be credited to this era. That says quite a bit about their focus on investment. Consequently, these attractions have evolved into staples of the park now deeply etched into the hearts of those that grew up riding them. (Need proof? Phantom Theater is one of the most missed and most reminisced rides from the park's past - and it was a replacement!) In hindsight Paramount did far more damage to Kings Island's original vision than the "Linder Years" did. The entire focus during this time was to commercialize the park - and that ultimately caused the park to lose it's soul - not to mention any type of coherent theming. At the time I personally championed it.. I mean, the rides were so grand.. but when IJST opened I remember walking away from media day devastated by what they had done to massacre the most beautiful part of the park (and in the midst removing not one, but two of the most classic attractions.) I stopped attending KI for the next two seasons because I was so upset by what I saw. In the future, I'm sure some may argue the same thing about CF. Heck with the loss of Firehawk and Vortex some already are crying that the current owners are "destroying its history." But fact is, there's probably more to be said about investment in new attractions than there is to be said of keeping aged ones. The reason KI is still around, and still a HUGE force in the Theme Park industry, is because it has evolved and changed with the times. I'll finish my soapbox by saying that we haven't seen the last of ride removals. We, no doubt, will see other aging and less popular rides removed in the near future.... the VERY near future. Its a necessary evil that will continue to allow the park to flourish. Finally... as someone that has attended KI for 40 years, I can say its current state rings of the same vibe as those "glory years." It has a bit more to go... *cough* show quality *cough*... but the Kings Island of today is really grand. I'm personally very happy with what Cedar Fair is doing with the park. That having been said, I predict that the next few years will see a renewed focus on general infrastructure and family experience. They're giving the thrill-seekers their big gift this year, they'll likely concentrate on smaller thrills next... I just hope they add a few more trees in the mix as well ;-).

  28. She's going to lose or Cedar Fair is going to go bankrupt paying all of the employees in the past who worked over 40 hours a week overtime. I regularly worked over 40 hours in both of my stents at the park.

  29. "RMCing" makes sense as a solution for not-so-popular old wooden coasters that have not aged well. Kings Island does not have a ride that fits that description in my opinion. I'm sure RMC would be happy to build Kings Island a brand new ride of their choosing (Topper, I-Box, T-Rex, whatever).

  30. If I count (and remember) correctly, I believe there were 11 new coasters built for 2019 in just North America and Europe.... out of those 8 have inversions. New-for-2019 coasters with inversions in North America: Yukon Striker (Canada's Wonderland), Steel Curtain (Kennywood), Maxx Force (SFGAm), Copperhead Strike (Carowinds), New-for-2019 coasters with inversions in Europe: Zardra (Poland), Dynamite (Germany), Fury (Germany), Untamed (Holland) New for 2019 coasters that did not have inversions... Hagrid's Magical Creatures Motorbike Adventure (Universal's Islands of Adventure), Kentucky Flyer (Kentucky Kingdom), Wilkolak (Poland). So... judging by those numbers, I'd say that inversions are very much IN ;-) I am nearly willing to bet money that Kings Island's next coaster will include them as well. Oh, and just for posterity, launching is very much IN too.

  36. You are right and I completely missed the fact that woodies in general have a much longer lifespan vs steel. This was bad logic on my part to justify the conversion. This does not change my opinion however that Racer would make a great RMC coaster. Also, an RMC converted Racer would draw huge crowds to it and chew through cue lines quickly.

  37. I see it this way: I was always under the understanding that they were exempt. Clearly the plaintiff has a lawyer that sees an angle in which they believe they can win. It’ll be interesting to see what happens.

  38. On one hand I will ask why does The Racer need to be RMC'ed to extend the life of it. Look at Jack Rabbit at Kennywood. It is 100 this year without RMC touching it. On the other hand its a lousy ride and extremely rough. I don't ride it much and many trips I skip it.

  39. Miami River Brewhouse may be the restaurant in the park I eat at the most but the best is Coney BBQ. If only Coney had the indoor seating and the bar It would be perfect. Miami River Brewhouse leaves too many items off the meal plan. If there was just an option to pay an upcharge to add bacon to the burgers to to swap the tots for mac and cheese it would be good but they do not allow things like that.

  40. Looking back at last year, I really think that Kings Island has a winning lineup with food. It's hard for me to pick my favorite place as of right now. However, If I had to pick best restaurant in the park, it would have been Miami Brewhouse. The food, the atmosphere, and selection on the menu is perfect in my opinion.

  44. I respect your opinion, but I'm the opposite here. If done right, they could pull of a similar layout with a ground up rmc. It doesn't have to be record breaking, just fun!

  45. Even if you don't have one of those state-of-the-art space-age coolers, here's a couple of tips for keeping things good and cold... Have all food/beverage items pre-cooled (i.e. put in refrigerator overnight) the cooler's job is to keep it cold, not make it cold Bring cooler inside (starting out with a hot cooler is a bad idea), clean it out Put all beverage items in bottom (single layer, upright, allow for some space) Surround cans/bottles with ice (let ice get down between everything), cover completely Put your food in zip-lock bags (keeps it dry) Place food on top of ice layer Surround food with ice packs (if you have them), or just fill remainder of cooler with ice to cover (be gentle to not crush your sammies ) In the car, cover the cooler with a blanket to add an extra layer of insulation against the heat and sunlight Don't forget, close that drain plug! (don't want a car full of water from a leaking cooler) In general, don't over-pack the cooler with food/beverage "stuff". You need an appropriate amount of ice or ice-packs. Good starting rule of thumb, half and half (50% stuff, 50% ice). I've camped with all styles of coolers, from good to crappy. You can get by with the flimsiest of coolers with decent prep. Though I cannot stress point #1 enough, starting with everything cold goes a long way in helping you out. As for eating at KI, pack items which are quick and ready-to-eat. You don't want to be doing meal-prep from the back of your car. Prep at home, pack for grab and eat. Have fun

  46. Best answer and most logical thinking. RMC is good for a problem child coaster. The only problem child Woddie we had was removed. Yes I would like to see an RMC at KI, but ground up. Why do they have to transform an existing coaster?
