  1. The 2 specific types of coasters (that the park has ever publicly discussed) "proposed" for Vortex's site prior to KI choosing Arrow were:. A Mack bobsled - that ended up being installed at Kings Dominion as Avalanche. A Togo "looping mouse" that has always been rumored to have become the infamous Windjammer at Knotts. I've never had the other "types" officially confirmed. But I know most of the proposals were deemed too "tame." One could deduce from that article that the other proposals may have come from firms including Intamin (Switzerland) or Schwarkopf. FYI - guests were surveyed at the front of the park back around 1983-84 on what they wanted the park to add. I actually recall being asked my feelings about water rides by someone with a clipboard at the front gate when I went with my family in those years. Ultimately, White Water Canyon must have surveyed high - so it took precedence over the coaster. I've always wondered what *could* have taken "The Bat's" place had WWC not been "bumped up." I think it goes without saying that by the mid 1980s, the park saw the writing on the wall with the "Screamin' Demon." Couple that with the loss of "The Bat" and the fact that looping coasters were very much in vogue and it was pretty clear what the park needed at the time - and "voila" Vortex was born.

  2. Liberty University = Jerry Falwell. He only wants them back for the revenue. He's a money gobbler, not concerned about actual welfare of people, like every other Televangelist. He's nothing more than a snake oil salesmen in a tailored suit - a faith healer that tricks people into thinking they are safe by praying alone.

  11. Let's compare and contrast how Asia is dealing with it versus USA... My friend lives in China and has been keeping me up to date and sending photos and links along the way. So let's compare how China and USA are dealing with it. They took the stay home seriously. This is one of their downtown areas during the shutdown. That road normally looks like LA traffic... Compare this picture to any of our cities...or even the roads to your local Kroger...or the local Milford kid on spring break with his famous "If I get Corona" quote... During their lockdown in Wuhan 9millon people were not allowed out of their home and all transportation stopped and all shops were closed even the supermarket. Government installed cameras in front of their houses and have security people roaming 24hours/day every day. Many of China's houses are not like the US, most of them are like an apartment- people that have been to HONGKONG or Singapore will know this very well. You are required to have an app and submit all your data to this app that is tied to your ID card, where you live, where are you have been, etc. When you go into any store have to scan this to show them the details. In China there is no private data. Hundreds of people have been put into prison because of not accepting the isolation. The US would never do this. People claim big brother and what not, but the reality is, if you have a mobile device, you are already being tracked…. They all wear face masks in public. To go anywhere you need to go thru multiple checkpoints. Those people with arrows pointed to them are not police, they are temperature takers. Once you get past those checkpoints, you will come across thermal cameras at individual stores that will alarm if someone has a high body temperature: They are constantly bleaching everything, either people dressed in full hazmat gear, or with machines like this...has anyone seen that done in the USA.... Satellite imaging over China has shown a drastic decrease in air pollution during the shutdown...where are LA comparable images....they don't exist... When it is all said and done, our numbers are going to far exceed any other country...we are days from just Ohio exceeding the total number infected in all of Japan...and our country death's are halfway to the total number infected in Japan...wonder why.... The last numbers I saw was that based on other needs in the hospitals due to flu and cancer, etc., that unchecked, the death rate could exceed 15 million due to not being able to be treated due to lack of hospital beds and equipment...

I know we have some separate threads for some of this, but let's use this one to post anything positive to support our fellow KIC members while we wait for thing to get back to normal and the toll gates to open. We can post about all parks not just KI in here as well. Post your favorite: POV's Coaster and park pics Coaster YouTube videos (no self promotion) Positive quotes (not religious or political) Anything you think might brighten another KIC members day. *Anything negative at all will just be removed at the discretion of the admin team. I will start with this picture on KMAA. I can not wait to replicate this pic with Orion in the background.

  22. The timeline is going to come down to how many idiots don't listen to the government (state and federal). Please look at how far China and Italy are in this process. China saw zero new cases the other day. Italy, as of yesterday, had total new cases drop. They are between two and four weeks ahead of us. That should give us a timeline.

  29. The country will start getting back to work next week. Just a matter of time until bigger events start again. I'm still a firm believer we'll be in parks in May. Some areas will be more restrictive than others, but we'll start trying to return to normal life and wash our hands a bit more soon.

  33. It was a little general store/kettlekorn stand and I believe that was also where they had the old-fashioned photos, and then a wrap-around porch that overlooked the old country/western outdoor show stage which was where the Diamondback station now stands. And then where the Diamondback overflow switchbacks are, there was a place where you could pan for gold. It felt like an old Rivertown Main Street.

  39. Despite the nostalgia for the ride, Son of Beast was pretty, pretty bad. In both forms. However, did you ever ride The Villain at Geauga Lake? I'd ride Son of Beast ten times in a row and let someone kick me in the stomach before ever riding The Villain again.

  40. Those wheel lights would have been sweet but I actually think having a cool light package just on the lift is the way to go. Leave the rest of the ride dark. The lift hovers over coney mall, not back by The Beast, so I think it will look eerie and foreboding lit up back there.

  41. Well, I guess there is that. It is going to be impossible then for me to show what they are doing when it’s testing during the day then which is why they are doing it that way of course. I can try to pull the exposure a bit, but if it can’t translate to video accurately then we will have to wait till they finally fire it up at night. I will say I though it was the sun’s reflection on it at first, until it did the same exact thing 2 times in a row as it cascaded up the lift hill. It was amazingly bright in the middle of the day, I can’t image how this will light up that side of the park at night. So with that said and showing a side by side with it lit and unlit.... I have maybe 2 or 3 other video and photos that may show it slightly better. Then from there I won’t share till it’s absolute concrete.

  43. 1. Launches have come a long way since the days of Flight of Fear. Premier and Mack do a pretty good time in getting the kinks out during the first year. 2. Not all companies have B&M levels of lack of downtime their first year. Just because they're a bit worse than B&M in that regard doesn't mean they're long term problems. B&M isn't the be-all-end-all. 3. Parks need the variety I'm actually hoping the Intamins that are opening at the Busch/Sea World parks do well because I want to see them be a player in the US market again.

  45. The Demon (Location: Action Zone between The Bat and Banshee) The Demon reigned supreme, striking fear in the hearts of many park guests for years. Then in 1979, a force of nature arrived in the form of a Beast who sought to take the land from the Demon's reign. The Demon fought The Beast for eight long years until 1987 when it was defeated and sucked into a Vortex. Knowing that a retaliation was inevitable, The Beast sent his son to guard the area where the Demon once stood. Retaliation came many years later in 2012 when a creature in the form of a Banshee descended upon the park and killed the Son of Beast with an ear piercing scream. With the Son of Beast gone, the Banshee could finally resurrect her long deceased brother- the Demon. Now bigger and stronger than ever before, the Demon is back with a vengeance.
