The DVD was given out as an exclusive gift to ACE No-Coaster and East-Coaster attendees in January 2005. It included ride soundtracks, Qtv Excerpts, Ride announcement spoof videos, The Beast 25th anniversary special & more. Heres mine:

  4. It is true that it is up to an individual to protect themselves to the extent that they can. In softball or baseball, you can avoid being hit by the ball by being vigilant, but that doesn't mean it's okay for a pitcher to aim for the head. If that happened and someone told that person, "welp, that's just part of the game", then the person saying that is a word that I won't use on a public forum. The only athletes who deserves to be hit in the head with a baseball are members of the 2017-2018 Houston Astros. Personally, when I can do something that requires literally zero effort or sacrifice on my part and is potentially helpful to someone else, I just do it because frankly, I think that's just part of being a good person. Are we going to start lobbying against the "no loose articles on rides" rules? After all, getting hit with a phone that slipped out of someone's hand is just part of the risk that you accept when going to an amusement park, right? I just find it shocking that people are so vehemently opposed to inconveniencing themselves in even the tiniest little way to do something that might help another person. It's not like people are being asked to sacrifice their firstborn child to appease the volcano gods to save the village from the eruption (though some of the social media comments sections sure make it seem that way). It's just a stupid piece of fabric. Just like the shirts and pants that we've been wearing for nearly the entirety of human civilization that very few people complain about (which, BTW, is something you wear for the benefit of others more than yourself, even if you don't realize that). And just a side note that I should add, "love thy neighbor" is a core part of the values I was brought up with. If doing something that is trivially easy for me and doesn't cost anything can be helpful to someone else around me, it would be a violation of my core values to refuse to do it and would make me a hypocrite.

  5. I don't know how the parks all plan to handle the pandemic, but one thing do I anticipate seeing at all of them is hand sanitizer. This is how I think that will look: Holiday World will add hand sanitizer stations at every existing sunscreen and soft drink location. They will be free of charge and refilled religiously so no customer ever uses a dispenser to find it empty. There will be regular reminders over the PA system for customers to please wash or sanitize their hands whenever possible. Kentucky Kingdom will do the same, but solely because they feel compelled to match what Holiday World does and not because they care about the customers. They will refill the dispensers once a day at best. They also will practice social distancing by only filling their park to 10% capacity and never filling the ride vehicles beyond half capacity. They will also run one train on all coasters. Not for cleaning, but rather, just 'cuz. In short, nothing at all will change at the park other than hand sanitizer being available when they remember to refill it. Disney will hand out small bottles of hand sanitizer for free at all retail locations, with intricate packaging themed to the area of the park that you got it from. Disney will also introduce a limited edition hand sanitizer trading pin. The bottles and pins will sell on ebay in the year 2025 for over $100. Cedar Fair will install hand sanitizer stations, but only two in each of the large parks and one in the small parks. In two years, they will be replaced by a Coke Freestyle machine. At Michigan's Adventure, the hand sanitizer station will be relocated to the other side of the park next season and advertised as that year's flagship new attraction. At Six Flags, there will be a coupon in the app for gold members only, good once per season and only at the member's home park. It will be good for $1 off of a $14 bottle of Purell with the purchase of a $6 bag of Takis. They also will be out of stock at all except the most inconvenient retail location in the park. The flagship roller coaster at each park will have its trains wrapped in advertisements for Purell and Lysol. The Purell bottle will not be allowed to go with you on the rides and you will have to leave it with a non-rider or pay $2 for a locker at each ride.

  7. To be young again LOL You never know what may change...I mean the old timers in baseball never thought batting helmets would be a requirement in baseball, and many tried to "hide" it under their hat because they felt like a wimp with it; helmets for football - really says the old timers. People never thought smoking would be banned in so many places. People never thought seat belts in cars would be mandatory. Just think up until 1968, seat belts were not even required to be put in vehicles. It wasn't until 1984 that the first state made wearing them mandatory. Ohio wasn't until 1986. Up until 1989, dentists were not required to wear gloves and face masks...and there was outrage by many in the dental community arguing that people would quit going to the dentist as a result of these measures... Society changes because of a significant event. People would never have thought the effects of 9/11 would still happening to this day. Starting this year backpacks would not have been allowed in the Reds Stadium for example. Masks may become our new norm, but it doesn't happen overnight. It may start for employees in contact with customers initially and eventually trickle down to customers. Or it may not happen at all. Disney is making baby Yoda masks now, so masks may become a fashion statement like Guess Jeans or Coca-Cola logo'd clothing Or masks may fade out quicker than Betamax... But we never know what may happen...I mean who would have ever thought people would intentionally swallow Tide Pods or lick toilet seats!

  9. I don't see masks becoming the new "pants and shirt" where it becomes permanently required. Masks were required during the Spanish Flu and they died out after it. I'm guessing the same will happen here. Masks will never be "normal" in our culture imo.

  10. i think a floorless at KI would be a great fit! now that Vortex is gone, they don’t have a sit down non-inverted looping coaster, and knowing the reliability and lifespan of B&Ms, it’d be a great fit as there’s nothing else like it at the park!

  11. ^ This entire pandemic is a series of no-win scenarios for businesses. A vaccine is still many months away. Frankly, we've never had great success at coming up with effective vaccines for other coronaviruses, so there's no guarantees that a vaccine will ever exist at all. Basically all theme parks will have to open up for business in a world with no vaccine or go out of business. Even a park as big as Kings Island would struggle to financially survive more than one cancelled season. Companies just don't keep multiple years' worth of operating costs in their war chests. As staying closed until this is all gone is not a viable option, their best option is to open up with as many reasonable precautions as possible. What is a "reasonable" precaution? I'm not sure I have all the answers to that. Some are easy and obvious (shorter cleaning intervals, hand sanitizer stations at convenient locations throughout the park, etc) but some are harder. Queue lines aren't built for 6-foot distances between guests. Neither are ride vehicles. Is it viable to implement social distancing in these places? Parks have to open to stay afloat, and one of the contingencies of that is that they have to figure out how they can operate in a way that maximizes safety within the parameters that will still allow them to make a profit (or at least break even until this blows over)

  13. AMEN! That coaster was insanely awesome. EXTREMELY fun ejector air. I rate it up there with Phoenix at Knoebels as best airtime I've ever gotten on a wooden coaster. Heck - the last seat of the train had a high back to prevent people from flying out the back of the car. I am so glad I got to ride Screechin Eagle many times. There will never, ever, be another coaster built like it - with that kind of out of your seat euphoria. I will always miss it.

  14. Wow! Copperhead Strike looks tiny compared to Vortex. If we were to get a Mack multi-launch, I think it should be a little larger than Copperhead Strike, so it can have the same massive look to it that Vortex had. But since a Mack multi-launch would theoretically be smaller than Vortex, it could open up new expansion possibilities. The park would probably opt to expand the tight midway if I had to guess and create a better entrance plaza. Just image walking up to that area and seeing a new coaster launch into a twisted mess of track. Mack coasters are very photogenic like Vortex, so I think it would look great!

  15. Ethanol should be available in massive quantities right now. That is the type of alcohol which is typically blended with gasoline. Since so little fuel is being used very large quantities of industrial alcohol should be available very cheaply. I have read where several of the plants have shut down due to so little demand for ethanol. The country produces more than 14 billion gallons of ethanol a year.

  18. I cannot help but think of this when hearing near term LOL: “Relatively soon is an interesting phrase. Relative to the entire history of earth? Sure, the vaccine is going to come real fast,” said Brad Pitt as Dr. Fauci, seated at a desk behind a stately bookcase. “But if you were going to tell a friend, ‘I’ll be over relatively soon’ and then showed up a year and a half later, well, your friend may be relatively ****ed off.” Seen at the 40 second mark LOL... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uW56CL0pk0g

  20. ^Actually they just need to loose less money than staying closed. Operating in the red is not ideal but the question may be how red they want to operate for the time being. If they have to throttle capacity severely I don’t see where they generate any substantial revenue at all by opening this year unless they cap Passholders in a reservation system so they can have plenty of slots for daily buyers. Maybe that will be enough to cover the variable costs. Good poll question: Passholders and Meal Plan holders given that 2021 is “free” would you support the park only allowing Passholders a reservation after the park has given ticket buyers a two week chance to purchase for a particular date so the park can make a profit or at least loose less money?

  21. I go to the Indy 500, I go to Kings Island...the ticket says you enter at your own risk. So accept the risk or don't. It's entirely up to you to protect yourself. My daughter plays softball...I tell her repeatedly, "protect yourself at all times". Because life will happen.

  22. I don't see how they could have. Toho owns the rights to the Japanese Godzilla. Additionally, Sony still owns the 1998 Matthew Broderick version to this day, and Tristar held the rights to and had tried to produce a Godzilla film in the very early 90s. The project lingered in development purgatory for years until the Roland Emmerich film was finally produced. Sony/Tristar then intended to make a pair of sequels and a script for a second film was written. Instead, they produced an animated series and then let the rights expire in the mid-2000s. At some point, Legendary Pictures and Warner Bros. acquired the rights and made their own version. Paramount would have had to attained the rights from Toho and produce their own version of the character, for which would be considered their IP. But they couldn't do this at any time from the early 90s to the mid-2000s because Sony held the US rights to produce films based on the Godzilla property. Paramount Parks may have tried to license either the classic Godzilla from Toho or the American Godzilla from Sony for the ride specifically. Indiana Jones is a bit more complicated. The first four films are distributed by Paramount, but Lucasfilm holds the copyright. This is because of the way George Lucas conducted business after the first Star Wars film. He wanted more control of his IP. So nearly every film he produced starting with The Empire Strikes Back, he had his hands on licensing rights, merchandising, the characters themselves, and so on. (The few exceptions include Howard the Duck, which he produced without Lucasfilm for some reason and of course, is a Marvel character; Labyrinth, which was a co-production with Jim Henson's company; and Tucker: A Man and His Dream, which was a co-production with Francis Ford Coppola's American Zoetrope.) I believe Paramount still retains home video distribution rights to the first four films, but the character moved over Disney with their purchase of Lucasfilm. So naturally, when George Lucas started doing business with Disney Parks, Indiana Jones was included.

  29. Yes because Kinzel isn't going to say on a press day advertising their new ride "this ride made me black out". There are alot of points to be said here, as someone who has background operating Intamin rides, they are very maintenance heavy and require constant attention from ride operations and maintenance, and while yes, Cedar Point's Intamin rides are very popular, uptime is very important, and if your new ride isn't reliable, it isn't good for business, and that's why Intamin rides have not been built in the US as frequently as they once were. Look at Hagrid's Magical Creatures Moterbike Adventure for instance, it's still not running all of it's trains, and the ride very much still has it's issues, though the ride itself is nothing short of incredible. Some parks seek the rewards of installing an Intamin, and in my opinion they provide the best ride experiences (yes over most RMC rides). I highly recommend watching El Toro Ryan's videos about operations, he's a good guy, and one of the very few coaster channels that aren't full of clickbait videos.

  35. There's a SIX example I know of on the whole naming rides to failed movies. There was supposed to be a Nick Cage led Superman movie in the late 90's, and they got SIX in on it by naming SFMM's 400 ft coaster Superman: The Escape when it (eventually) debuted. That Superman movie never happened BTW.

  39. This is how some people look with the way they talk about the mere suggestion of being asked to wear a mask for the benefit of others: I can't believe Cedar Point makes me wear a strap on my glasses to ride their roller coasters. If that's going to be the policy, they should provide them for free. Under the ADA they can't make arbitrary rules that uniquely affect me and my disability. It's my constitutional right as an American to ride any roller coaster I want without a glasses strap and I don't care if they could fly off and kill someone. The bin of broken glasses and phones in the lines is just fake news. Glasses straps don't do anything because my glasses are great and don't come off. And anyway, if other people don't want to have my glasses hit their face at 120 MPH, they just shouldn't go out to a theme park.

  41. Valravn and GateKeeper are the two coasters that lead the ridership numbers: https://www.cedarpoint.com/blog/2018-ridership-leaders . The only Intamin in the top 5 is Millennium Force.

  42. I don't understand what this discussion is about. The point that I am making is that the GP likes variety. The only park that has # of Intamins and B&M's collectively is CP. The GP chooses the Intamins over the B&M's. I guess the next place would be Great Adventure and the GP prefer KA, El Toro, & skull mountain over the b&m's there.

  43. My point is that CF wanted the most intense coaster ever created to honor Dale Earnhardt and the areas NASCAR fans. They got what they wanted. A lot of people are afraid to ride it due to the intensity, but Intamin built what CF wanted.

  44. @coaster sally you're looking at just Cedar Point, the "Thrill Captial of the World", where Kinzel flooded the park with Intamins in the 2000s. Look at the other top 3 parks in the chain. What have they all gotten since the Cedar Fair acquisition? Collectively KI, CW, & CWS have gotten 8 B&Ms, 1 Mack, 1 GCI, (and a triotech coaster). Even Cedar Point has gotten 2 ground up B&Ms and converted their stand-up. All the rides mentioned are safe and reliable which is what Cedar Fair is all about. There's a reason you haven't seen a new Intamin in the chain since 2010.
    1 point
  45. Yes you are correct but I am not looking at all of this from an enthusiast's perspective. As an enthusiast I'd love for KI to get an Intamin like Maverick but I know it'll never happen financially. I've argued B&M is the safest choice just because of reliability. The general public could really care less about what manufacturer a coaster comes from. Not a lot of GP have ridden Medusa, Bizzaro, Scream, Rougarou, and other floorless models. You could argue B&M installs cookie cuter Hypers but yet Cedar Fair bought 3 of them as well as 3 of their giga models. Dive machines, which are the most cookie cutter coasters of all time, have been installed at 2 of Cedar Fair's parks and I'm sure there's more coming down the road. As I got older, I started to learn that KI and Cedar Fair try to cater more to the GP because they're the ones who make the parks the most money. I recommend watching Eltoro Ryan's video on I305 if you want to see how going more intense and catering more to the thrill seekers doesn't always reap financial rewards. Maybe we won't get a B&M, maybe we'll get a Mack, an S&S or maybe an RMC single rail, but whatever we get please understand this- when they do decide on a manufacturer it won't be with the enthusiasts in mind but rather the GP who ultimately pay for the coaster.

  46. Dorney's timing on this couldn't have been better, seeing that the 2 major parks they're stuck between are both adding new coasters for 2020. If this GG woodie gets themed, it'll be kind of on its own because none of Dorney's other rides have a hint of theming. There's not much around the area where Possessed and the former Laser site is. The thing I didn't get while I was there was why everyone was condensed around the entrance and rides like Steel Force were walk ons, and I went on a Sunday.
    1 point
  47. I respect all opinions. However, it seems like just about all b&m floorless coasters seem to have cookie cutter layouts, so if you’ve ridden one, there’s no real importance to ride others. That’s just how I view them as a enthusiast. I know they are great capacity and reliable though. I think something that could compare to a floorless and wouldn’t be something Cedar Point or Kentucky Kingdom has is one of vekomas new gen coasters. Launch Model: Won’t let me posts two videos so if you want look up Abyssus at Energylandia. Lift hill Model: https://youtu.be/qnH6nW3k1ZY This would be very unique as none of these exists in America and seems to have a nice mix of inversions, speed, and airtime. They could also make it work well with the terrain Vortex used. I don’t know much about the capacity however.
    1 point
  48. ^^Right. We have some low capacity rides, but that isn't to say it wouldn't be preferable to have something higher capacity. Also, Invertigo is not a high-profile ride by any means and has the excuse of being a shuttle. The problem with JDC is that its going to be one of SFGAdv top rides, yet will have a capacity far below Nitro, El Toro, and Bizarro. Kingda Ka has poor capacity and thats reflected in its wait times. FOF and BLSC? Those are both launched, which also tend to be lower capacity rides in general. I'd say most of us are in agreement that an RMC of some type would be a welcome addition to the park someday, but personally I'd like to them improve their capacity first.
