  1. Using Photoshop, I put the entire park inside of The Vortex land plot. I think this would be a great addition to the park.

  6. Post from F5 coasters on Facebook. Looks like the Orion lift lights are on. That's a good sign if you ask me.

  7. I wouldn't believe everything Dennis Spiegel says especially predictions. He predicted that both Orion and Diamondback would have loops instead of helixes as well as Banshee being a wing coaster.

  9. Plot twist: this is the infrastructure and software upgrades they were putting in place when the Orion webcam went down. (I'm kidding.)

  11. Governor had a question on swimming pools, and said that they would be releasing info on summer activities. This would be in like with the Lt. Gov working on a summer activities group. They say they should have an announcement on Thursday. So maybe we will get the announcement we've been waiting for on Thursday.

  12. It's prime real estate, so I think they'll put a coaster there at some point. How the economy shakes out might be the difference of 2 years or more. *In an alternate world where log flumes are still a big thing, it'd be a great place to put one of those. They can be a trendsetter if they want though.

  13. @King Ding Dong Agreed, I think people vastly underestimate the amount of work for a functional ride scheduling system. If the quality of the KI app is any indication (*cough* ride wait times *cough*, I promise I don't have corona ). I can't imagine the scene when people show up for a ride and it is down briefly causing delays and queuing (which this is supposed to prevent). I'd trust someone like Disney to implement this far better (who has massive tracking and data built into their parks, and years of experience implementing various systems) instead of Cedar Fair who is going to be doing this on the fly for the first time.

  14. I would say not, that was probably the first ride to get inspected and cleared by the state so they can do the testing.

  15. I saw those cars as well, was wondering if they are cars from dealerships that have run out of places to store them. With almost no car shopping at the moment' they are renting space from Kings Island. Way to many of them to be employees and with new cars being shipped in almost all the dealers are overstocked and even in normal times use closed businesses to stock excess cars in Deerfield Township.

  16. Until there's an official statement from the park themselves I wouldn't put my money on speculation, even if it seems accurate or comes from a credible source. People come on sites like ours and take it to heart before the park can even say anything. Nothing is official until the park says so.

  17. Thats why his those statements and those statements in the article were predictions.

  18. I'm siding with @Shaggy on this one. As of now it's speculation, but I'm gonna wait for an official statement from the park.

  20. Dollywood does not require the use of lockers. Attendants, most of the time, will assist and put any bags in the bins for you. That might be different for awhile. They have some at Mystery Mine, but no reason to use them.

  21. Yes we like pools but got one for the home this year because we weren't sure what would happen this summer. We really want to keep her confidence up she has just passed her first swim class when everything shut down but her water confidence really grew from ki water park to swim lessons last year. Before that we could barely get her to swim in a hotel pool without either deathgrip on us or just hanging at the stairs been watching TN a lot and we're keeping our vaca the first full week of June. a couple of their water parks are open or opening soon. One is an outdoor one already open with their inside part opening next month. And a huge one opening later in June due to not quite completed construction yet. Be interesting to see. IMO though this is our first time having Dollywood passes, the fact they only extended till a specific date of June 1st next year makes me think they will be opening June 1 or close to it. But I'm sure extensions are easy to do if it doesn't happen but where other parks just automatically extended through2021, giving us whatever we may get out of this season and next, they didn't. to those wondering about carrying things- I'm making cufflet wrist wallets that are big enough for cash cards and an iPhone. What are your thoughts About something like that? I was thinking it would allow my hubby and me to marathon ( well the next time that's allowed) without lockers etc. finding zipper pockets on girl shorts in fluffier sizes is either super expensive or ugly lol! Either that or I'm going to make my own zipper pocket shorts specifically to ditch the bag!

  24. While the battery issue is valid, I am very excited about this. At this point, I would be very happy to just go and sit on International Street and walk the grounds. This is uncharted territory, so we feel things out on the fly. Sent from my Pixel 4 XL using Tapatalk

  25. Another point to consider besides storage... what if one doesn't have a smartphone to put the app on? I'm currently writing this post on a tablet (which I could theoretically bring into the park as it amazingly fits in the front pocket of my cargo shorts) and I choose to use a flip phone. However, what about people who don't have any type of "smart device" with apps? Something to think about...

  26. Correct they'd be better off renting to use an already built system than trying to do in house from scratch. Though the general info structure might be shareable to allow parks to build to their particular needs. The system structure is already proven hence disney but it requires a magic band like tracker to really work and that tech is probably copyrighted specifically to disney etc. honestly It would be nice to let them use the hand me down fast pass paper system. Each ride prints you a specific time frame ticket and that's your window to ride. It's set no tech malfunctions. Besides a paper jam I guess lol In theory ki could literally print a set amount of time tickets to hand out. For major rides I mean. You go by estimated capacity per hour and that's the amount handed out. Example(I know nothing of true numbers just making an example) Orion:8 cars by4 so 32 a train times 3 trains = 96 people. Give or take roughly 5 min cycle ( more or less if having to spray or wipe In between each go etc) from load to end run brakes. That roughly 12 trains per hour =roughly 400 riders per hour. With the limits etc they could print 250 tickets for each hour then to allow for distance in queues etc. In theory you would be able to go around to each ride collect a time ticket and then your set for distancing and riding. With lower capacity and reservations etc they could have extras to pass out if the lines are low or let people enter etc. I'm sure they'll figure something out but lower capacity wouldn't necessarily impact most rides they'd be controlled by the front person just like they check heights test seats etc so they could just limit with a clicker counter how many they let into line and a radio to the exit how many left etc. most of their queues are easily visible to how many are in there etc so limiting shouldn't be too big an issue and use the counter system for out of sight queues like FoF etc. Walmart and Lowe's figured out A way to count control on a handheld unit I'm sure ki can come up with something similar.

  27. I can see that is a slogan, but right at the end sounds like “DONT GO!” The ride reservation system could be multi-tiered to possibly accommodate FL and be similar to SIX or completely different. If for standby it means you can’t make a reservation until you are done with the current one and have to wait 2 hours for your next ride not sure how well that will be received. (Especially when a ride goes down) If you can have 5 going at once that may be more palatable. That is a lot of IT infrastructure to get up and running and tested. I sure hope they didn’t try and create this in-house. If the application crashes then what? Glitches out and erases your reservation you waited 2 hours or more for? Why wouldn’t it work in Planet Snoopy? Lines form there as well. What is fundamentally different about the Kite Eating Tree?

  30. Appointment ride times? I can understand that for the big E ticket attractions like Orion and The Beast. But how would that work in Planet Snoopy? When the park opens this year, it will definitely be different. And as a pass holder, the amount of visits you can make for the season might be limited, due to the likely decreased capacity threshold.

  32. I don't think anyone has given a definite answer for those cars. It's still a mystery as far as I've seen. Employee parking is nowhere close to there, so I doubt it's employees. Do they leave at night?

  37. That Scooby Doo and the Haunted Castle audio hit me hard in the nostalgia! I used to ride that thing ten times in a row when we visited Kings Island. I know people really hate it for replacing Phantom Theater, but The Scooby Doo ride will always have a place in my heart.

  38. I once spent all day at KI riding PT over and over specifically to memorize everything the characters said. I'd concentrate on a specific character one ride at a time and when I got off, I'd write down what I heard in a spiral notebook. (Remember - this was long before smart phones!) I'd then wait in line, get back on and do the same thing for another character. Sometimes I'd have to ride several times just to catch all the phrases each character said - as the rotational tracks were recorded long enough as to not repeat the same lines while a guests was still in earshot of each scene. I still have the notes somewhere - and many (most) of the lines are forever stuck in my brain. For instance... the electrician stagehand at the breaker panel said the following with a bit of a southern accent: "Who's there? Backstage is for performers only." "Hey who's out there? No one's allowed backstage." "Go on now, this here's no place for playing around!" But here's some trivia.... originally, he also said: "Where's that light breaker? Oh yeah, there now..." This audio was omitted in the ride's later years and could only sporadically be heard. And just for posterity... here is a very badly overexposed picture of me in 2002 during the disassembly of the ride - I am actually playing around with the set piece from the Phantom Theater scene I just mentioned. The figure had been removed, and was sitting (along with the others) in the workshop located adjacent to the ride. More trivia: The figure's left arm was flexible pipe - and although it looked animated - it wasn't. The switch (the one I'm holding) was hinged to a motor-driven lever behind the wall. It went up and down on its own and when the figures arm was attached - it appeared as if he was pulling the lever up and down. Notice how it differs from the other "breaker" switches? That's because thet middle piece extended through a slot in the wall, and was hinged to a longer rod. That rod extended downward and was then attached to a wheel turned by a motor. As the wheel spun slowly, the arm moved the switch up and down. (Think of a crankshaft/connecting rod on a locomotive wheel - same premise.) The figures head and right arm were hydraulic, and would "twist" right to left simultaneously. Many of the "effects" in Phantom theater were done this way.

The DVD was given out as an exclusive gift to ACE No-Coaster and East-Coaster attendees in January 2005. It included ride soundtracks, Qtv Excerpts, Ride announcement spoof videos, The Beast 25th anniversary special & more. Heres mine:
