But if I can’t smoke in the lazy river I’ll just stay at home and do meth in the bath tub with a pool noodle. Muh rights.7 points

Facemasks are only part of the strategy, but they are important in situations where ideal social distancing is not practical. Even with all the precautions that Cedar Fair is taking, places that attract large crowds present an enhanced risk that requires a layered safety approach. Masks are a proven strategy for reducing transmission in public spaces. It shouldn't be controversial to wear a mask in situations where health officials recommend doing so, but that's the world we're in today.5 points

They put German food in Area 72 but not Oktoberfest? LOL! In all seriousness, this food looks really great!4 points

I'm not a smoker nor am I an expert on this virus, but it seems counterproductive to enforce social distancing practices and masks if they're going to allow people to smoke when they exhale all the chemicals and potential diseases that were in their mouths; even if they're in a smoking section.4 points

I have been on this forum for a long time. You are correct, there are only 4 moderators and way more posts than they can possibly review and are not on here 24/7. In the past when someone would post something that was against the TOS, somebody would usually post something (or send a DM to the person) like "As an employee of the park, you probably shouldn't post that" or "That is against the TOS" and the person was thanked for bringing that to the attention of the members that may or may not know that and the "offender" learned from their mistake and self deleted the post (well edited it to DELETE) and didn't make the same mistake again. A little member self-monitoring should be fine (even if by DM to the person) and was generally accepted and appreciated in the past, but now when someone brings up something is against TOS or the employee manual, the person bringing it up gets chastised for it and a long drawn out argument ensues until the mods clean it up. Worse, all the same people in the argument then repeat the same violation within days of a previous violation...take the earlier argument that was completely removed. Whether you agree with the drone policy or not, the TOS is clear on it and yet the same people a month ago were arguing that the drone footage didn't violate FAA regulations and they brought that up again and we went down that rabbit hole again. Whether it is legal or not is not the point - it is the policy of the park and KIC and part of the TOS that you agree to by being a member of this forum. Same with these photos now - it isn't illegal to take those pictures and you are not going to jail or get arrested for taking them, but it is against park policy in the employee manual to post them unless that is your job to do so and it is against the KIC TOS as well. When a post is simply removed with no reason or explanation, how are people supposed to learn moving forward? How is some kid not even old enough to work at the park going to learn that posting a photo someone sent them from a closed park could get that person in trouble unless it is pointed out to that poster? Further, some of the employees should be glad the park doesn't monitor this site closer because there have been several violations of the employee manual with some of the posts going on this year....4 points

They could cattle pen a fairly large section of Timberwolf for smokers. Has seats and plenty of room for distancing. Not exactly centrally located but would eliminate the entrance and exit hassle.3 points

True, but lately the term has been used as a negative, often in the same breath as "SJWs" and "snowflakes."3 points

I had made a reservation this morning, then reached out to KI customer service later after it went down. Here's their reply: "Thank you for contacting Kings Island. Your reservation will be canceled because that was a system test for the reservation system. You will need to place your reservation again when Kings Island announces the opening of the reservation system. Thank you for checking with us about your reservation. If you have any additional questions please call 513-754-5700."3 points

i wholeheartedly support this. smoking is not a right, and the inherent no mask / covid risk of being around someone smoking or vaping due to it is completely unneccessary. they should however clearly identify this change and set it somewhere between where you get temp screened and when you enter the park away from people entering.3 points

If that is the case, or even if it isn't, the park should really start to communicate this change in park policy. It shouldn't be buried in the FAQ section of the app/website. It took the sharp eye of a member of this forum to see designated smoking areas were not on the map. Disney promoted their no smoking policy back when they did that last year so guests knew what to expect and hopefully minimize surprises and guests getting into altercations over it. They will be just asking for fighting between guests if the new no smoking policy isn't promoted. Heck, even with the announcements in the park, people still do not comply. Since you have to sign away your life making a reservation anyway, they should add an acknowledgment to the reservation that you agree to abide by the no smoking policy or risk removal from the park. Similar to how you have to acknowledge the no smoking fee at a hotel.3 points

I don't think anybody is wearing a mask only as a virtue signaling device. People who are wearing masks are doing so either to keep themselves safe, or because they are required to. Maybe for some people it acts as a virtue signal, but why does it function as a virtue signal? Because it helps keep people safe. I don't think anyone is wearing masks because they want to promote safety, if they don't actually think that masks help keep people safe.3 points

It shouldn't matter what color you wear, even pink. Whatever color you want regardless of gender or sexual preference. Nobody in 2020 has a right to bat an eye or give you crap. Screw them if they try.3 points

I am truly sorry for all that is going on right now and what I have started. I should have never posted that picture. Sorry for the people I ruined it for also. I might as well take a break from KICentral for awhile. Goodbye for now3 points

Actually, I was fine when they didn't sell alcohol in the park as well. Anything that clouds judgment when around parks is not a good idea. Most of the deaths that happened at KI were alcohol related.2 points

So I just got back from my Dollywood trip. You do to have a park reservation which comes with a new ticket or a season pass you have to register online. They do screen you out in the parking lot before you can come in and they give you a wristband. Had no problems with face mask on rides. Every other row was open and you got hand sanitizer before you could get on. On the rides they ask you to wear a mask. Now on the train they made everyone wear a mask or covering. Employees where going around Handing mask out if they saw someone walk around without one. Had a really great time.2 points

I don't think it can be generalized. It happens, yes. But in other contexts, it doesn't. When someone says they are doing to "teach others and be an example" it probably is virtue signaling. Virtue signaling is not always a bad thing. It can also be called modeling exemplary behavior.2 points

The worst-placed smoking area is the one on the side of the Miami River Brewhouse. There's such a nice patio back there, but you have to walk through the smoking area and clouds of toxic chemicals first. Delightful.2 points

honestly most companies have to test it in a real live environment. its not like they accidentally leaked the link, someone internal probably accidentally posted it somewhere. it wasnt an easy to guess page, and honestly its not like customers info is leaked or anything. no need to be critical of a live test.2 points

I'm on the fence for the whole virtue signaling issue. I am required to wear a mask for 13 hours when I am working. But I have friends and family (some in healthcare) that insist on wearing a mask when driving alone, walking outside etc. I asked them why--they said to be an example. These are the same folks who are doing to on social media platforms. It could be even said that my post earlier about following scriptural guidelines to consider others as better than yourself could be construed. I just dont know. But if KI asks me to as a condition of entry, I will just because that is the correct thing to do.2 points

I smoke on occasion and I do Vape. I get fed up with other people who dont follow the protocols and go to the designated areas and call them out on it when I see it as well. I have no problem going out of the park and coming back in. The majority of people who visit parks are Non Smokers so it only makes sense to ban it from the parks, and it's like 5 minutes at most to walk to the entrance, get your nice fix and walk back in. Plus I saw this coming last year with the blatant disregard for the previous policy2 points

Glad we agree. People can post social media pictures of themselves wearing masks to encourage others to do it too, because it promotes public safety, not just because it's the trendy thing to do.2 points

@PatchesC - I just have to say thank you for being the courteous and responsible smoker! No doubt one of the reasons the smoking restrictions have become more restrictive is due to smokers not following the policies of whatever place they frequent. It sucks people treated you like that at Disney for smoking in the proper locations. I have been known from time to time when passing a designated smoking area to thank those there for adhering to the policy. Most appreciate the compliment.2 points

The test reservation page they had online earlier was taken offline. A link to that page was not officially communicated by the park; people evidently found it by guessing the URL while they had it online for a test. KI has not announced a date or time for reservations going live. When it happens, or when we learn of an official date, we'll do our best to get it communicated on KIC right away. When reservations are live, the link to the registration page should be displayed prominently in the mobile app, on the KI website, and in the KI online store.2 points

What an absurd take. It's not about "virtue signaling", it's about complying with the recommendations from the CDC, the WHO, and literally every infectious disease expert. Good lord.2 points

This is one of the most ridiculous takes I have seen on this thread. Not knowing how to wear a mask properly is a function of poor messaging and example setting from our leaders, hardly virtue signaling. I would also fault video media for not running more demonstrations on proper construction and use although print and digital have run many good articles. Nobody likes wearing a mask, it isn’t fun.2 points

Not sure what photo was posted as I didnt see, but I must say. I wandered back to Orion cause I was curious to see the changes to the area, and there's a lot of extra theming now. It looks super cool in person, and the lift hill is pretty intimidating. Can't wait until I can help fulfill most of your short term dreams by working at the coaster :) I didnt go in the queue line since I wanted to save some surprise for myself, but I don't think you'll be disappointed with how they're doing the area There's still some loose ends to tie up though for a bit, so I wouldn't expect any pictures/video/webcam action for a week or so, potentially more.2 points

Let's go ahead and calm down and discuss our excitements for Orion! Less than 2 weeks now until my first ride at the first rider auction! While it kinda sucks that we have to wear masks, I think it'll be neat to look back on it several years from now when our next coaster is getting built where we'll discuss the opening of Orion where we had to wear masks its opening year.2 points

@disco2000 I'm not suggesting anyone to break the TOS or park rules, but the same member should not be the voice of the site. The mods have worked hard to reach the level of authority that they have and when the same member, who'a no different in ranks than any of us, comes in constantly references the TOS, it gets old. We're not children- we know the rules and if the TOS changes we follow them. Sure there's a slip up now and then but that needs to be dealt with by the mods and the mods alone. No one liked the bossy kid in school, constantly telling their classmates what to do.2 points

I'd predict that is what they'll do since their would be four available rows either way. It should go... Rows 1, 3, 5, 8 as opposed to 1, 3, 5, 7.2 points

Slightly off-topic, but after all these years (decades), seeing the Eiffel Tower "towering" behind the entrance gate like that still gets me every time!2 points

Watch it be the POV of like Kenton’s Cove Keelboat Canal or like Bavarian Beetle (which would be very cool). Or maybe they are finally updating The Vortex POV. LOL! Hopefully it is Orion, but the park could be messing with us and releasing some other POV. Notice how the picture is from last year directed at where Orion is now. That could be a subtle teaser.2 points
