  1. I was at Friends and Family preview day and spotted these new pins for those who collect them. There is also a Phantom Theater one at the front gate store. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

  5. Another picture, they’re not skipping rows? Maybe if no one is sitting in the seat directly in front they don’t have to.

  6. Orion has a new look this evening.

  7. Orion looks absolutely massive from this angle inside the Adventure Express station, credit to Ohio valley coasters

  8. Once we get clear evidence they are doing something there. Not when they start removing the footers, but when they start clearing land and begin construction on something new. Probably not for a few years out since we got Orion this year.

  9. It's possible due to the pandemic only a certain amount of people could be inside the park the last few months. Which means they obviously focused on Orion and the crew needed for its construction etc than the clean up crews. Had there been no virus it probably wouldn't have been left in this state for long. But that's just my benefit of the doubt thinking

  10. Double post: also I just thought of something, maybe to recognize the top fundraisers for the first riders event, they get a piece of Vortex. Just a thought

  11. I mean, it's a pandemic. Things are going to be different this season.

  12. So, if you think about it, Kings Island's original design was based on a romanticized version of Cincinnati. Its German heritage (Oktoberfest), its history (Rivertown), and its classic place to have fun (Coney Island) were all there. Hanna-Barbera isn't necessarily a Cincinnati thing, but Hanna-Barbera was owned by Taft Broadcasting, which was based in Cincinnati. (International Street is the exception, and since I've never heard an actual reason why it was chosen, here's my theory: Dennis Spiegel said at the first Coasterstock that the Eiffel Tower was originally going to be at Coney, prior to the decision to build Kings Island. Putting it in an international section gives a plausible reason to exist, plus gives an opportunity to create a spectacle of an entrance area, much in the vein of Disneyland.) Within the context of those themes is where the park's attractions' themes exist. Was there an actual beast that terrorized Cincinnati when it was a settlement? Not to my knowledge. Did racing coasters exist at Coney Island? Nope. Do people really do things that make them dizzy at Oktoberfest? Well... Yeah, actually. But my point is that while each area is BASED in a part of Cincinnati's identity, it's not a 1:1 reflection of it. It's just a framework for everything else to exist within it. There's not really anything reflecting real life directly, as if it were the theme/amusement park equivalent of a fourth wall break in a movie, y'know? Theme/amusement parks and movies both exist to provide escapism. And yes, I think that's still true of amusement parks, too, despite the lack of focus on theming. Which brings me to my answer to OP's question: I'd like to see more of that "this ride's story exists within the context of the area it's in"-kind of thing happen than have an explicitly real-life-Cincinnati-themed ride at the park like Steel Curtain. This is just my opinion, but to me, if the park reflects too much of the outside world, it ceases to be a theme park and becomes a really elaborate outdoor shopping center, like The Greene in Dayton. I'm exaggerating for effect, of course, but do you know what feeling I'm talking about? To that end, if it were up to me, I'd also not have Skyline or Tom+Chee in the park, either. I enjoy both of those chains immensely, but... We're in Mason. Cincinnati proper isn't THAT far away. Heck, there's a Skyline just on the other side of 71. Wouldn't it be more interesting to have unique dining experiences in their places? Imagine if the park even had its OWN take on Cincinnati chili. (This is in a world where such things are realistically doable in a theme park setting--I recognize that there are a lot of reasons why that kind of thing isn't usually attempted.) I had somewhere I was heading with this, but I forget what it was.

  13. I’d suggest that if you’re prone to passing out in a simple mask, then perhaps you shouldn’t be at an amusement park in summer temperatures.

  14. For those that attend opening day, just remember, the park is feeling its way through this, and will likely be operating at a very cautious speed. Its just as new to them as it is to guests - so its gonna take time for them to get their footing. Also, prepare yourself that wait for Orion will likely be very, very long... EXCRUCIATINGLY long. Due to Covid, hourly capacity is likely to be limited to 1/4 (or less) than designed. In addition, new rides like Orion are, understandably, prone to some downtime. I'm not trying to be a downer, I'm just pointing out the potential that things may be a bit chaotic, or slow moving. Please keep eyes and minds open to the fact that the staff is doing everything they can to make the day a success - its not their fault that the park is on restricted operating procedures. They have some long, challenging days ahead of them - and they need positive support. Take time to thank the employees that you interact with for working under the conditions.

  16. Definitely the best light package of any B&M! Idk about it being better than Hangtime though. I've heard Hangtime has it hooked up to the midway music.

  17. It's on all of the hills?! Alright, this is too good to be true, yet it is. Easily outbeats hangtime and every other coaster's light packages.

  26. By "recognize" I think Don meant recognizing the top fundraisers in the park so they would know who to put on the first train. But hey, a piece of Vortex would fit perfectly with my Vortex paint chips.

  35. I went to Busch Gardens about 2 weeks ago down in Tampa. The way they were operating the coasters was every other row, and only 'your' party could be seated next to one another. Montu, which seats about the same number of people as Orion (32), typically only had 7 to 14 people on each train. It was painfully slow. A ride which normally had a wait time of 15-20 minutes was an hour and a half. It was not a good experience, however, they were still trying to work the kinks out i bet since it was only the second day they had been open since the closing. We only rode 5 rides in 8 hours. Just be prepared that limited capacity into the park, will not mean faster wait times for rides. We experienced that firsthand. Also, wearing a mask was not as bad as I expected. I recommend one of the surgical paper type masks as they are easier to breath with, and very comfortable. Just be prepared to ask your friends, 'what did you say?', since sometimes its harder to hear what your friends say. :-) If you guys have any other questions on what it was like in a park with the Corona restrictions, feel free to ask! I'll be at KI on Friday to finally ride this thing!

  36. Hopefully they will learn from other parks and have a ride host or security walking through the queues enforcing the mask policy. At silver dollar city/Dollywood lots of people think they are in the clear when they are in the que and pull their masks down or take off.

  37. Interesting they aren't skipping rows in the pic, can we hold out hope that the seating arrangement means all rows may be open but not sitting next to strangers?

  40. After being at Indiana Beach for 2 days in a row, I can tell you 95% of people are not taking it serious any longer. I am glad Cedar Fair is requiring masks. Yes they are a pain, they're sweaty, and itch your face. Respectively, wearing them two days in a row to be on coasters is a small price to pay to keep myself and people around me safe. Oh, and for the people who did have them on I never saw one person lose them on a coaster.

  45. Invertigo opened as Face Off in 1999 along with the then named Drop Zone. Its celebrated it's 20th birthday last season and is still one of the few suspended boomerangs left in the globe. With that being said, how much longer will it last? Its currently living on borrowed time with parts from Dorney Park's defunct Stinger. It serves as eye candy when you walk up to the main entrance but doesn't really sit on an attractive plot of land by itself. There's more room for opportunity if Congo Falls were to exit with it but that's all speculation at this point. KI has removed 3 coasters in the 2010s, (2 of which were immediately replaced the following seasons), so its removal isn't out of the question. Personally I think its the next coaster to be removed but I don't necessarily think it'll be anytime soon. Covid-19 has pushed a lot of things back so I think if the ride operates safely, the park won't have an immediate need to remove it. Additionally I don't think KI would remove another coaster at least until they get something to replace Vortex. To me Intertigo's one of those coasters that wouldn't warrant a replacement but it certainly would look odd to not see it when you walk up to the main gate. My final verdict, I think it'll be gone before the decade's over but I can't truly speculate on a year.

  47. And before Invertigo was built, that used to be a small picnic grove accessible to park guests, before they entered the park.

  48. What @gforce1994 said is correct, but if you're updating the timeline then you may want to correct that Ferris Wheel opened mid-1978, not 1982. It was removed after the 1990 season and relocated to Libertyland amusement park in Tennessee. To nitpick, the text also jumps between present and paste tense. Bayern Kurve was a circular, roller coaster like flat ride located where Sling Shot now sits. Here's a similar attraction (although Kings Island's never had a jet of water in the center):
