  1. If the title of their article had a question mark at the end like you added to the title of this thread it would give this article more credibility. Until the park announces it, this is all a rumor, but that is not how the article reads. Hinting is not the same as confirming. With everything going on KK could change their minds and then CN has got people excited for something no longer there or delayed.

  6. So I got to ride oroin today. They put is near the back very scary but I loved it!!!!! The hill is fast but then you go really fast and it over and I faint in the circle but I'm ok!!!!!! Rode Daimonbdack again and I love it!!!!!! But it's different than oroin. I'm not scared as much like last year and I hope the government doesn't close it up

  7. I couldn't agree more. For those of us fortunate enough to experience those years in the early-to-mid 1980's, its really impossible to describe the "vibe" at the park. I've never experienced it anywhere else, in the same way. It really stood in a league all its own on many levels. I wish I had the perfect word to describe it, but never find one that explains it. The Bat was a jaw dropper. At the time, it was like something from another world. I remember there were always people lining the perimeter fence to watch it. One of the amazing things about it was that it really wasn't that tall - but it came very close to the ground.

  14. And yet we find articles indicating that the AAP says their initial statement was taken out of context and never was an endorsement of the call by President Trump for all schools to fully reopen — and the organization has now attempted to directly distance itself from the administration’s belligerent stance on reopening. Yes they agree schools should open, but has to be done safely and with precautions in place that very few schools have the funds or staff to provide. You can’t just double or triple the physical class room size overnight or double or triple the number of qualified teachers overnight. It takes funding. Funding that continually gets cut. A month ago or so DeWine said he had to cut school funding, yet kept funding for jails intact. How exactly do schools hire more teachers and rent out space with budget cuts? https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2020/07/13/trump-administration-cites-american-academy-pediatrics-make-its-case-school-reopening-heres-what-aap-really-said/ And Dr. Fauci has echoed those same thoughts and he said it was important that people adhere to guidelines on social distancing and masks to keep the level of infection in communities down, because that will make it easier to get children back into schools. Otherwise, he said schools will have to deal with the infection dynamics in their communities and create modified plans with altered school days and virtual learning. https://roanoke.com/news/local/fauci-it-is-very-important-to-get-the-children-back-to-school/article_ed79bf1e-a1d2-5d26-9661-56e431d0b39b.html I already see the narrative playing out: In March, April, May the narrative was this is an old person disease and the young don't get it. People were saying it is like the flu and will be gone by summer. In June and July the narrative is now more 20-39 age demographics are testing positive, and while the deaths may not be up there as the older generation, they are suffering from long term effects. Part of why this demo is showing numbers now is because they are being tested. In March, April, May, only the sick were getting tested. In July the narrative is they are saying there is little evidence children spread it. Yet, we see evidence from day cares in Texas, summer camps in Missouri, going back to school in Israel that kids are spreading it. How many kids are getting tested? Only if they have a hospital visit. Who here says "hey family let's jump in the family vehicle and run down to the pop-up test site and get tested?" I suspect none or a very few. How many on this site have been tested? The children age group simply hasn't been tested unless they were in the hospital. So the narrative now is let's send them all back to school. Governor DeWine has a new color coding map and counties that are red are mandatory masks when inside buildings....yet the Governor made school children exempt from this when inside a school. So a mask makes sense for the kiddo being dragged around Kroger for an hour every two weeks, but not when sitting in essentially a poorly ventilated confined space classroom 30+hours a week. Makes perfect sense? Give it a month or so to simmer and then mid-September, early October, we will start to see stories of entire school building staffs catching covid and having to shut down and spike and hotspots as families with children in the school get it. And then the narrative will be "we didn't think kids could spread it". We do not have those numbers yet to know for sure if children are carriers or spreaders. We will by October. And people will be scratching their heads. Except for this doctor that states “You have to understand that the virus doesn’t want to kill us. It does not want to be deadly,” Dr. Andria Rusk, an assistant professor specializing in infectious disease at Florida International University’s College of Public Health and Social Work, told McClatchy News. “It wants for the human host to survive and be asymptomatic for as long as possible because that perpetuates itself. The longer it’s able to keep us contagious, the better off the virus is.” What better human host than children... And people said this would be gone in the summer heat like the flu....yet it shows no signs of letting down..so what will this fall/winter be like? PS - this also shows that there is so much information out there - some dated, some inaccurate, some taken out of context, some still being written because nobody really has a handle on this virus, that one can find an article to support their position, whatever it is...maybe you think that smoking helps reduce covid - you can find an article on that... You can even create the narrative to support your position - go to Google and type in any 3 digit number and new cases and see what happens - type in 999 new cases or 123 new cases...and sometimes a 3 digit number and covid works too

  15. I'm ready to volunteer to get on top of the awning over the Diamondback storage bay, as well as The Beast's final brake run, to sweep off all those hair/wrist bands. I mean, what the heck is that about? Why is it a thing? And why on earth have they been there for years and years? Its like the "gum trees" that used to be in lines. There's no purpose and its unpleasant to look at. At least with the low crowds this season, it will take the GP longer to come up with some way of ruining something in the Orion Queue.

  16. If by many years you mean 3. Here are the list of incidents from the above mentioned article... just in the past 10 years. Also, no one has mentioned downtime too. How often is Banshee, Diamondback, Orion, Fury, etc down? How often is literally any Intamin coaster down?

  19. I totally agree Shaggy! There was a very different feel and vibe there during that the early to mid 80's. And it's very hard to describe in words. Guess you just had to be there then to understand it. I was in total awe of both The Bat and Beast and the general ambiance of the park. The only word that comes to mind of that time in the park is just magical. But, as a young teenager then, the world in general was a simpler, much different place too.

  22. Three CP employees test positive for COVID 19 https://sanduskyregister.com/news/267036/cedar-point-employees-test-positive-for-covid-19/ Just like the KI employee no specifics are being released. There are bound to be more at the parks but at least they finding some and taking action. CP has only been open a week and given the probable long test turnaround time it seems like a low probability these infections occurred at the park, at least while open.

  24. So does GateKeeper, Valravn, Kumba and just about every B&M but some people like to whine about Kings Island B&M's as if it's only prevalent to their collection. Fury (and all B&M's that develop a rattle) probably started developing a rattle due to the footings moving over time due to one of the 4 conditions as explained in the above post
    1 point
  25. Below is the best post I have found that accurately describes why B&M coasters sometimes exhibit a "rattle"...Personally I don't find Diamnodback's rattle to be excessive and I think Banshee's rattles is heavily accentuated by the restraints. If Cedar Fair wanted to fix these rattling issues on these or any of their B&M coasters then they'd simply have to increase the size and stability of the footers for said rides *************************** Here's the post The rattle as I understand it is a shimmy in the train during high G movements on a B&M. During high G on some of the B&Ms the train will get a shimmy to it which is a side to side motion as you are moving forward. It has a tendency to rattle the train giving it the B&M rattle name. The train will shimmy so much that it actually makes the train rattle. Cause... The cause of this has to do with the footings that the coaster sits on top of. When the footings area not installed correctly or are not large enough they will move a little as the train goes over that section of track. The movement may only be millimeters but its enough to reverberate up to the train that is in high G. Partly you have to remember you have a 50,000 pound train amplified by 3 G making the applied force in the the track and structure over 150,000 pounds. Any movement in the footings is sent back to the train. The most notable one I have ridden is Goliath at SFOG. On the first and second drop at the bottom you will get the shimmy. During one of the tours I did we were standing under the coaster and noticed that the footing and ground moved as the train went by. That movement is what causes the train to rattle. On Fury 325 I asked that question about footings. ON Fury, half of the rides footings are connected deep in the ground to bed rock. A hard layer of ground usually deep in the ground that is more or less solid rock. You connect the footings to it, then to the support, to the track. The problem area that could effect Fury is on the out run near the tunnel. That part is not on bed rock. But the park feels they built large enough footings so that it wont be a problem. So far Fury has no real rattle so it has stayed stiff... What causes the footings to move over time. Several things can cause it. Not large enough or deep enough footings. The constant downward force of the train each time it passes. Bad ground around the footings where the dirt can compress under the footings. Wet and dry seasons or if you are in a frost line area where the ground can freeze moving the footing More or less the rattle is a shimmy in the train, mostly caused by bad footings or bad ground conditions. Can it be fixed, Sure. Dig up the footings and increase the size or better ground. Will items like this be fixed, typically not as the parks arent going to spend the money until it starts to do damage to fast to trains or track.

  28. My wife works with special education students at a local elementary school. My father - 62 years old - is in the school's IT department. They want to work. I think they should be working. Kids need school, etc. the problem is, despite what Fauci, the CDC, the AAP and every other expert says, there are ZERO mandates on a federal - or in many instances, even a state level - for reopening schools. The result is a hodge-podge mess of schools making their own policies, many of which fall woefully short of even the minimum CDC recommendations. As of now, our school system isn't even requiring masks...which is borderline negligence. Yes, we should reopen schools...by doing every single thing possible to keep our students and staff as safe as possible. Problem is the latter part of that statement simply isn't happening.

  32. We should feel lucky that the park is open in July with daily hours even if just 11-7. I would not be surprised that in August KI will follow the lead of other CF parks (Worlds of Fun and Dorney Park) with closing of the entire park in early in the week - both WOF and Dorney are closed Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday.

  33. Coaster Sally seems to like using the "confused" reaction for every post he/she disagrees with. If you're that confused, I think you need to educate yourself. Intamin's safety and reliability has a well-documented shady past, and it wasn't a distant past, either.

  34. Their safety record, rather good or bad, was overshadowed by one of their own PR people effectively saying we're going to end up killing some people with rides, but we just need to find the appropriate number of people to kill. I can't remember the exact statement, but it's out there on the internet somewhere. Edited to add: https://www.courant.com/news/connecticut/hc-xpm-2004-05-04-0405040040-story.html

  36. I consider myself lucky that I was able to ride the original Bat quite a few times. As a young teenager, and not seeing anything like it before, I was absolutely loved it! The second drop by the trees was my favorite part...the design flaw, even though it was not the fastest coaster around, made a really fun, thrilling ride at the time. I also loved those old commercials for The Beast and Bat. I've said before, that as an artist, those really inspired me as a kid to get into the profession I love as a marketing designer. For all the fantastic progress that KI has had through the years, there was something special back then, especially after The Beast opened. Maybe it was because I was just a young kid, but the park held a truly magical place in my heart. I remember walking through the shaded walkway in the evening toward Rivertown where The Beast and Bat ruled for awhile...fond memories! .

  38. To this very day the trains on the original "The Bat" remain the most incredible trains I've ever seen on a coaster. I was just 9 years old when it opened, and I can remember being mesmerized by how it looked. I stood for hours and watched those trains swirl around those turns. They were absolute works of art.

  39. Is the coronavirus political? Only if you want it to be. Just a small tidbit: if it is political, this would mark the first time in World history that all countries can actually agree on something- the virus has many fatalities and we still know little about it. There is nothing in the constitution that prevents a city, state, or business from requiring you from wearing a mask. Saying BLM does not mean that you think all lives do not matter. Saying hug a tree does not mean you don't like bushes. The confederate flag represents the darkest time in our nation's history where the divide was so bad, the death count dwarfs all wars. The only reason to remember it is so that the same mistakes are not made again. Instead of finding something else to be angry about, how about we all look to heal "US".

All were socially distance the entire time and they wore masks before getting the equipment down or near each other and were all outside. Also dueling pianos in the gazebo near maverick and the firehouse looking building.

  46. As one of the kids of the 80's, I remember that commercial very well. My parents would not let me ride The Bat because rumors swirled that somebody died on it, same with King Kobra. When The Beast commercial came on in 1979, I remember being scared by it. I would sneak out of bed and watch TV and would freak out and run and sleep under my parent's bed. I had matured by the time The Bat commercial came on and had ridden The Beast, so no more night terror for me!
