well its been about 18 days since I was denied a ride on Orion, and I managed to lose 15 pounds and got my first ride today, and it was absolutely incredible, very fast and intense, the floater airtime is incredible and the drop is easily the best part of the ride. It was worth every sacrifice I had to make to ride it. Then immediately after we were ushered into the concession stand as the park went on lockdown...11 points

It's not just science that the "let everyone get it" crowd doesn't understand. It's basic math. Right now, the US has 3.8M confirmed cases, and 143k confirmed deaths. The herd immunity people will say that there are likely a lot more cases that haven't been caught, and they also seem to question how many deaths were actually due to Covid-19. So let's be charitable and assume 10M cases and 100k deaths. In order to reach herd immunity, the consensus says you need around 60% of people to have antibodies, either from getting the virus or receiving a vaccine. Let's assume that having had the virus guarantees immunity (obviously we don't know that to be true). Assuming we have 10M cases, that would mean only 3% of the population has been infected so far. If we were to extrapolate the death rate out to 60% infection rate, that would be 2M deaths. Now, you can say that number is artificially high, because a lot of the older and more vulnerable population has already been infected, and we've gotten better at treating it. Although most of that would be offset by the increase in the death rate due to our hospital systems being overwhelmed, given the exponentially increasing infection rate (without containment there's no reason to think we won't see upwards of a million new cases a day at some point). But we're being charitable, right? So let's cut the number in half. Without a vaccine, it will take 1M deaths to achieve herd immunity. In addition to the math, there's the fact that during a pandemic, 60% herd immunity won't actually protect anyone. When the virus is uncontained, it's going to keep spreading and impacting vulnerable people. 60% isn't a magic ceiling where once we hit it, the virus disappears. Without containment or a vaccine, it's likely we'll see up to 90% infected. So now, even by all the conservative estimates and assumptions, we're still looking at 1.5M deaths. That's the absolute best case scenario if we just "let everyone get it." And no, this doesn't factor in all the other non-binary results, like people who survive with permanent lung, heart or brain damage. I understand we have to balance the spread of the virus with other factors. I don't think anyone is suggesting we go back under complete lockdown again. But we know masks and social distancing help slow the spread of this virus. We don't know the extent to which they help, but we know they help. At the same time, it doesn't really cost you anything to wear a mask, either. Until there's a vaccine (which, even if approved by the first of the year, won't be widely available and administered for at least another 6-9 months), our goal should be to slow the spread, so we can ultimately contain the virus. The alternative is million(s) of people dying, and millions more suffering, most of which could be prevented.7 points

Good. Stay home. You can use the extra time to research covid-19 since you appear to know absolutely nothing about it whatsoever.6 points

People seem to forget it’s not black and white, live or die. The In-between also suffer. A lot of people who “survived” COVID-19 are now dealing with life long health issues and disabilities. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

Wouldn't that be like telling the police to not ticket speeders? I mean the speed limit is posted and people start to drive knowing what the speed limit is...and yet people still disobey posted signage and other traffic laws... In an ideal world, yes this shouldn't have to happen, but we do not live in an ideal world...so society needs enforcement of policies and laws... If KI sets forth policies, they then need to enforce those policies. Ohio is proving that we cannot count on Ohioans to do the right thing: https://www.fox19.com/2020/07/20/study-shows-ohio-is-among-most-irresponsible-states-limiting-spread-covid-during-pandemic/5 points

I think you all (the people who don’t think it’s a big deal) are missing the point either purposely or on accident. 1: It has a higher death rate than the flu 2: it’s a vascular swelling disease. Which means that if you don’t die then you have a higher risk of organ failures and strokes. So it’s not just the death rate but also the “we don’t want people to have life long illness because of this” Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk5 points

A perfect example of why we're last in fighting this "imaginary" foe. Ask Sweden how well "herd immunity" is working out.... I'm waiting.5 points

Daily deaths are not facts? You posted an opinion piece. I posted daily deaths due to Covid. One seems more factual. I made no comment on herd immunity or anything else.2 points

I have seen very good compliance with masks and distancing so far. In ride lines on Friday, I saw several people reminded either by an associate to keep their face fully covered and/or to stay on the social distancing markers. I wasn't there today, but 30% of people not wearing masks isn't at all consistent with what I've seen at Kings Island this year.2 points

October 2021, right..?? A vaccine by this October, <2.5 months away, widely available? That's quite a stretch. Having one ready in limited quantities by October 2020 is enough of a stretch.1 point

Yup. We don't really know what it's like to recover from this virus yet - many will surely have lasting health issues for some time, but not all. Any statistics given for "recoveries" don't seem to take this into account. Michigan further seems to think that "recovery" means "not dying within 30 days of initial symptoms". I have no idea how that works, when there are patients hospitalized longer than 30 days. You could be near death in a hospital on a ventilator and Pure Michigan would consider you a recovery.. until you do pass, then, they'll say "oops" and remove you from the recovery count. Welp. Got on it for the first time last Friday. In my opinion, Orion is nothing special. The first drop is awesome, pretty much the same as every other first drop on a giga. The high banked hill is interesting, but not much force to speak of. Not very much air time either. The trim breaks on the last big air time hill pretty much kills any air time you could have gotten for the rest of the ride. I was left very unimpressed. Vs the other giga coasters I've been on ( Millennium, Fury, Leviathan, & I305) Orion is definitely at the bottom with I305. Doesn't really compare to the others. I realize It is not going to be perfect in getting people to comply. I don't feel the park should have to tell people to wear the mask and or to wear it properly. If you did not want to wear the mask, you should not have entered the property. From when I have been at the park, I think they are doing a great job with this situation.1 point

It's impossible to control every individual's behavior in a public setting, but I feel good about the layered approach Cedar Fair and other major park companies are taking with masks, distancing, cleaning, enforcement, & limiting indoor activities. With Fast Lane, the floor stickers are configured so that people in the two lines aren't waiting side-by-side. When people stand as instructed, they shouldn't be within 6' of another group. In some queues, there are long gaps between stickers to accomplish this. On my visits, employees have come through the line periodically to sanitize queue rails and correct guests who aren't following health protocols.1 point

They should be in compliance with state guidelines. State guidelines allow exceptions for those with special needs and certain health conditions. My 6 yr old son has autism, and has had zero exposure. If he comes to the park with a doctor's note there's no reason for them to force him to wear a mask as long as he is social distancing. The masks are hard for me to wear as an adult, but I could endure it to be able to take him if I had to, but it's not fair to force this on children especially those with special needs1 point

I was there today, from open till about 2 and it wasnt to crowded and nearly everyone I saw had masks on properly. People were also respectful of social distancing in lines...I rode Orion, Diamondback, Racer, Beast, and Banshee with no issues. This was the second time I've visited. The first was July 9th and then Security was making sure folks masks on properly. Today, I only saw, maybe 6 or so with mask down.....it was hot and I'm thinking they just needed a brief break. I would go back, saw the coasters being wiped down and had no problems. Hope this helps!1 point

The biggest flaw of Cedar Fair is they don’t like shade. Constant tree removal and unshaded queues. That poor policy is costing the money now. With the lack of shade and hi temps, wearing a face mask is miserable. The facemask itself isn’t the reason that I have avoided Kings Island so far this year, it’s the lack of shade.1 point

Hi folks! If you don't know me, I was a loooonnnggtime poster here back in the day (miss you, Terpy). I've stopped by here and there over the last few years but largely I've been out and about exploring parks far and wide! You may have seen some of my one-off articles on the history of Tomb Raider: The Ride, Son of Beast, Geauga Lake, Disaster Transport, or a few other Cedar Fair favorites. I wanted to swing by to let you know that I started an online collection of all my theme park writing in one place - PARK LORE! These are the in-depth, fully-researched, detail-packed stories of attractions from Disney, Universal, Cedar Fair, SeaWorld Parks, and beyond! It's meant to be an all-in-one place where you can start a story and "fall down the rabbit hole" (Wikipedia style ) by digging into in-depth histories of the world's most-missed Lost Legends, flopped and failed Declassified Disasters, industry-changing Modern Marvels, and never-built Possibilityland rides, lands, and parks! If you're super into theme parks, Imagineering, attraction design, ride histories, or just the themed entertainment industry, this is the site for you! I'm really trying to get this collection off the ground and get people excited about it and bookmarking it and stopping by to see what's new. If you're interested, do me a favor and swing by to check it out! You can sign up for an account to leave comments on stories (like sharing your own memories and opinions) and to get a monthly email Newsletter on what's new on the site. It would honestly mean the world to see people visit, share it with their friends, talking about it, etc. It's literally just a one person site, run by me. There are no ads or ad revenue. I just want it to be a cool place to visit and read stuff. (And if you have no idea where to start, there are recommendations on the home page). I literally got my 'start' in theme park stuff and caring about the industry at Kings Island and here on KIC (as you can tell by my post count) so sharing the park's stories really, really matters to me, and I pretty quickly learned how interconnected those stories are with things happening across the industry. No pressure whatsoever, but the site does have monthly memberships to support new writing, fresh content, special features, etc. If you join as a Gold Passholder, you unlock a hundred(!) exclusive features (which you can browse here and here), rare concept art & construction photos in every story, streamable attraction audio (hello Tomb Raider music!), plus get a real membership card and postcard set shipped to your door. If you decide to sign up as a Silver or Gold Passholder, I created a special promo code to use at check-out - "KICentral" - that will take $2 off the monthly price, making the Gold Pass just $6 a month!! And you actually recieve stuff in the mail for it!! Anyway, I hope to see you all there! I have been around here long enough to know that you guys would make good use of the comment section. But really, I hope you find it a cool place to relax, research, dig in, and learn a lot. Like I said, KIC was my start to caring about theme parks and learning from friends. Maybe Park Lore can be a secondary place for you! Haha. You can sign up for a free account or a Park Lore Pass here! See ya there!? If you read a story and love it, feel free to share recommendations in this thread.1 point

Last year I had a terrible cough that wouldn't go away for 4 or 5 months. It was awful and that was without flu-like symptoms, such as fever. Anybody who "doesn't care" about getting a respiratory disease has to be eating paint chips.1 point

We'll wait till you're done with it. On second thought with the pandemic we shouldn't drink after everyone, plus it seems as if you've finished it off. It's not about you, it's about your fellow man you may spread it to. Guess you don't care about them either.1 point

Point is if you polled GP coming in the gates @ CP which coaster is bringing them there, the b&m's would be way down the list. Lets please not get into a manufacturer debate.1 point

Could we get away from B&M for a while? Not that there is anything wrong with them, but there’s so many other great manufacturers out there.1 point

Watching this offride video of Outlaw Run, I would love to see us get an RMC with a similar theme to Outlaw Run (Wild Revenge from my version of Rivertown would have that) and you can see how the plaza looks. I really like Outlaw Run's entrance that goes through a depot. I think would be awesome for a coaster in Rivertown.1 point

No, I've never been to Carowinds. However, stuff I've seen is that it looks very similar to the Festhaus, but has more options. Sounds like what the Festhaus should be imo.1 point
