  1. Part of the problem, both with Orion and GateKeeper, is that enthusiasts generally want to see something new and innovative. Something they haven't seen before that blows them away, or at least combines the best elements of other recent rides. Reality is that it's difficult if not impossible to keep pushing the limits, and it's not always necessary. Take each ride for what it is. Millennium Force, Top Thrill Dragster, Maverick, Steel Vengeance, etc. may be the stars at the park, but they need a supporting crew of fun rides, too. I still very much enjoy Gemini and Magnum, for instance,

  2. And on that note, this is the impossible-to-escape box that we were put into with regards to Orion - one which, by its design we we're bound to draw some ire from the outside community, regardless of what our opinion on Orion was going to be. On one hand, if we shower with it praise and are overwhelmingly positive, well then we're just "fanboys" blinded by love for our park, and unable to look at it objectively. But on the other, if we dare posit any criticism of the ride or display any negative sentiment whatsoever (despite the fact that one could be mostly positive otherwise), well the

  3. Ding, ding, ding. And there's nothing wrong with that. GateKeeper, Orion, etc. are still great rides and great additions. It doesn't have to be the most mind-blowing ride. It just has to appeal to the demographics at that park.

  4. The thing is, though, that the GP (the more centered demographics parks are trying to get) are fine with these additions and innovation isn't that big a deal as long as parks are meeting their ROI. I think many here have their visions of the park and the industry at large clouded by not seeing that. The GP is more easily impressed than we are.

  6. Talking about changes at the Point. I can confirm that they are actually building new "deluxe" rv spaces in the space previously occupied by Sandcastle Suites. They have it fenced of as they are not quite done yet, but expect them for next season to be available. (Pics taken by myself).

  9. I think if nothing is coming in a while, I would want to see grass planted. Having that land look dry and bare would be an eyesore for anyone who walks past or is in the Eiffel Tower. I talked earlier about widening/reworking the path between Coney Mall and Rivertown. I had an idea but I don't know how feasible it would be. Could the park relocate BLSC's entrance to somewhere near its switchbacks in the bottom of the picture? You all ready see where the old Antique Car entrance is next to the switchbacks so that could make a suitable entrance I think. I always see people cutting th

  11. As someone who's worked at Cedar Point before, the only operational issues I've noticed are staffing, the fact that they're landlocked, and their Intamins. A chunk of their employees aren't from the immediate area which can be an issue from an operations standpoint. Furthermore, the fact that they're on a peninsula makes it difficult to get everyone in the park during busy times like memorial day weekend, 4th of July, Halloweekends, etc. Their causeway can only hold so many cars which I can understand is an issue. They don't have the land that KI has which is problematic but its not like they

  12. The term "fan" carries too much of a negative stigma these days. Do toxic fans exist? Absolutely. But for every jerk there are at least five or six who are genuinely nice.

  13. @silver2005, then I must be very silly, as I very much enjoy Cedar Point. It's definitely got its operational struggles, and plenty of room to improve, but it's a beautiful setting for a FUN park.

  14. I don't see how that makes sense... So by your logic, KI just has to get the biggest thing they can to fill that spot? I can think of several large rides that I don't want going into that spot that could be available. Can't the largest available ride also be one that best suits our coaster collection? If I'm the park and I'm going to spend millions of dollars on a coaster, I'm going to make sure it fits in well with the other rides around the park. Many people do. The park has a knack for breaking length records in some degree. We currently have more coasters that exceed a mile in leng

  18. Its what they do. Whenever you say something that they don't agree with, they'll react all confused and not contribute. When they do, they'll make a one or two sentences argument "B&M is boring." "Intamin is the past, present, & future." Try not to get too annoyed with it, they've been doing it for months. Don't let them discourage you from posting your opinions.

  21. Went to KI earlier this week, Monday and Tuesday. Orion was actually the first ride we were able to hit. I have to admit that on my first ride, I had fun with it, but felt slightly underwhelmed. That first drop is great, but I didn't feel like I had experienced anything I couldn't experience on Millennium Force. It was fun, but the lack of airtime (we were sitting in the middle) just made me miss Diamondback -- I love how on DB, you spend half the ride out of your seat. Rode it again late on Tuesday and we were placed in the very front car, and it was a completely different experie

  22. I haven't ridden Orion yet so can't fully say but it's tough choice still. Orion looks fantastic and seems like a top tier coaster. I hate to say a 2 for 1 trade is worth it in general but Orion seems better than both. However, I did enjoy both Firehawk and Vortex but they were both a little rough and not super re-rideable because of how I would feel getting off. And most of my friends and family didn't like/couldn't handle Firehawk at all so only really rode it when i had fastpass to get on and off quick. Vortex was a classic though so I am sad to see it go. Think once we have a Vortex r

  23. As many times I have been to Cedar Point, I would have to say this may be a small issue. I have seen Cedar Point to be a line creator. Now, that being said, let me explain, it appears that rides do not open completely (not all trains running) until lines are several minutes long. It seems that every time we have been, there are coasters not operating, possibly from lack of operators. To me, that is poor management. I understand that hiring is an issue, but the hiring is a management problem. There are people smarter than me that know how to figure that out. Now, as I have bashed C

  24. I agree with what others have said. I think it is more of a case of a few bad apples on both ends of the spectrum that cause the issues. One thing that I think is somewhat interesting with KI is the mass abundance of sites, Facebook groups, YouTube channels, Twitter, etc. that the users have KI as their home park. It is a large amount compared to many of the other regional parks. There is also the rivalries between other parks' fans who think theirs is the best (CP vs. KI, Carowinds vs. KI, etc.). Part of the abundance of enthusiasts I think is because a larger part of our attenda

  26. ^If the parks sees a good potential ROI for building something in a certain spot regardless of the issues, than it really doesn't matter that much, right? I mean, that pretty much explains every ride ever made in the history of amusement parks. A little soil problem won't stop them from building in Action Zone again.

  27. I think Theme Park Predictions definitely was biased in his review when it was supposed to be an honest review. He pushed many of his own opinions as facts like saying that not one person was initially disappointed by Orion, by saying that people who think Orion is the best coaster are definitely “suck ups,” or by saying that Orion and Diamondback are very similar no question. In terms of fanboys, fanboys exist for every park, and fanboys are, not surprisingly, biased towards their home park. Theme Park Predictions, for example, has Carowinds as him home park, and he basically did a one to one

  35. That's still impressive though. Even though the polls are open to the public and people can vote multiple times, its still nice to know where we stand in the industry. Silver Dollar City, Cedar Point, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg are great parks so coming in 4th behind all of them says a lot about what people think of our park. Being in the top 5 is something to be proud of!

  36. https://www.10best.com/awards/travel/best-amusement-park-2020/ It looks like Kings Island came in fourth place behind Silver Dollar City, Cedar Point, and Busch Gardens Williamsburg. Silver Dollar City came out from nowhere and pulled out on top.

  37. The old SCS parking lot was converted to deluxe rv sites that debuted in 2018 and it was a huge success. When I worked for LHP, they were still talking about what exactly they wanted to do with that land. I think ultimately it was going to be used to create more sites but I'm sure they wanted to keep their options open at the time. An idea that was brough up was the possibly of water activities like what they had at Breakers but to my knowledge that was merely brainstorming. Fun fact: that space was used for their firework shows (not 4th of July) so it sounded like bombs going off if you staye

  41. I agree with everything you said, but especially this. ^^^ Along those same lines, though, I find it hard to fathom being upset or offended by anything someone says about the park or its fans in a youtube video. Granted, I am in no way an enthusiast, at least the way most of the regulars here would be. I love KI, and have been going there for 35 years. But I usually only go once or twice a year. I don't travel around the country to visit other parks (with the exception of a rare CP or HW trip). And while I enjoy reading about KI and other parks here on KIC, I usually don't participate in

  43. I would definitely trade Orion for Vortex back. Vortex was a great ride – the best first drop in the park, greyout forces on the double loops, awesome hangtime on the double corkscrew, and fun and forceful batwing. Orion is sadly a bit underwhelming for me.

  44. As a KI enthusiast, I don't think I'm demanding. Do I want the park to get record breakers, be able to go on behind the scenes tours, and get perks? Of course I do, who wouldn't want that? Do I expect to get these things because I have a gold pass and visit the park constantly? Of course not. I think for the most part we're good people, but I cannot deny that there are those out there who extremely sway one way or another. There are those who think we need to completely praise everything the park does, that every addition is THE best in the world, the park can do no wrong, and that people shou

  45. KI enthusiasts: The park doesn't do ANYTHING for us. Their YouTube isn't updated. We can't fly drones or post off season ariel pictures. There is no Orion POV. This sucks! The park: Ok, here's a Orion POV! Here's some nice high quality footage shot around the park on YouTube. KI enthusiasts: The Orion POV is terrible and amateur. The quality of the shots from yesterday is subpar. It looks like Coaster Studios shot it. I can't find it on YouTube. It doesn't suit my needs. The park: I can't believe these people.
