  1. From my experience, Invertigo and Banshee are noticeably more intense/have more positive G's. Orion is not very intense outside of its helix, a.k.a. "Orion's Belt," where you will likely gray out to some extent.

  2. Interesting seeing this come together. It’s starting to make sense why they’ve been consistently going a different direction with haunt decor these past few years (no massive grave keeper set right at the entry, much less gore in the decor, scare zones like pumpkin eater that do double duty as “fall decor” during the day. I think they’ve been heading toward a more family friendly feel for a while. I think HAUNT will return, but if this is successful, I could see it returning as well. (The amount of effort in this leads me to believe it was in the works regardless and not just a “corona stop gap” I’d love to see more of this and even some easy ride overlays like on Adventure Express and such to start supplementing the mazes (and maybe fewer, better ones of those).

  3. If I could describe this coaster in one word, its graceful. It does have a few intense moments at the bottom of the first few drops as its doing pull outs at 90 mph, but for a larger portion of the ride, it was very smooth and graceful as it went element to element, and it still had a good sense of speed throughout. The thing I like about the 2nd and 3rd hills is that they're steep enough to lose sight of the horizon, so when you do those flashy high banked turns that high, it really gives a good sense of disorientation and a sense of flying, which helps that its painted in that awesome shade of blue. Add in some cool negative G shenanigans and you have 2 really solid hills following the first drop. Has some decent pops of air on the camel backs, and a really good one on the hill after the helix. The helix is pretty steady on the positive G's. I was bordering on grey out, but not quite up to Banshee's curves. It feels like a condensed version of Millennium Force. Very good coaster overall. I'll be making up for my ride count of 2 next summer.

  4. Coaster lines are long. Currently in a (supposedly) 50 min line for Mystic Timbers. According to the app, Orion is 90 min, Beast 60. My plan of many night rides is foiled. Thankful to be at KI with my family though. White Water Canyon was a sweet walk-on, with great views of Mystic.

  5. I have an honest question- why hasn't there ever been a Marcie costume? Its not like its just a KI thing, there isn't a Marcie costume for any of the Cedar Fair parks to my knowledge. Its not like she isn't popular since she's appeared in almost every Peanuts special that's come out. Heck we even got to see Pigpen for the Peanuts Celebration.

  6. Invertigo and Banshee pull much more positive gs, in my experience at least.

  7. Had a great day for what is likely my only visit in 2020 and last until opening day next year in all likelihood. I was incredibly impressed with how well everything worked out given their hardships getting the park open this season. Moreso that they got pretty much all the rides open, which a few other parks have left some rides closed for various reasons. The staff was very much on their A game both in getting efficiency out of lines and food orders and keeping the virus policies in place. I think every park should model their policies on Kings Island's and Cedar Point's. Basically I hit all the coasters except Invertigo and Backlot, but I also missed Racer as it was down all day for some reason. The only non-coasters I did was WindSeeker and KI&MVRR. I didn't go quite fast as I haven't gotten out much this summer so I wasn't used to the heat and such (it was very hot and humid today). Made a bee-line to Orion and just meandered about riding the rest. Seeing Coney Mall minus Vortex was a huge punch to the gut, especially since that's all I've known since I've ever been to the park. Its a big hole to fill. I did appreciate the face lifts they did with the paint on the CM games and Scrambler, Dodgems and Zephyr look great. FL+ was a savior today. In the best news- Orion Review If I could describe this coaster in one word, its graceful. 9. Appears Racer is down today. Crowds aren't too bad.

  11. ^ For both you guys here. I don't think Planet Snoopy needs an overhaul except in the area where the Ice cream stand is. It really bottles up right in that area when they have lines. The rest of the area is fine in my opinion.

  12. The Woodstock Gliders will never be the same as the Flying Eagles unfortunately. They were designed to be more tame, and long time Kings Island fans will know the difference between these gliders and the original Flying Eagles. Also, the water maze is Planet Snoopy was rather ugly and disgusting in my opinion, and I do not want to see it return. I do think Planet Snoopy needs a complete overhaul, though, but I don’t see this coming in 2022.

  13. Low capacity would be fine if it was placed in Planet Snoopy. I always thought the park should get rid of the stage and the barnyard and replace them with either a small GG woodie or a wild mouse.

  14. Ik this sounds like a stretch since they did put them in fairly recently, but I would love to see them try and move the Woodstock Gliders back to the former location of Flying Eagles where the basketball 3 point challenge is across from where Vortex's batwing used to be and rename it to Flying Eagles. They could maybe relocate the 3 point challenge to Action Zone or something. Then maybe in the future bring back the water maze where the gliders are now or put in a new snoopy ride there.

  16. Just out of curiosity as this is a bit pertinent for me- how are the positive G's on Orion? Particularly, in comparison to Invertigo and Banshee?

  17. I still have my Celebration vinyl album (signed by the cast of course) Best show EVER! Can't find it online, only was able to pull up the Carowinds one. The show after 2 years at KI went there.

  18. I like the idea of a museum with a model layout of the park. Showing all the rides and attractions. It would also be nice to have a couple of new flat rides that were from the past such as Skylab, Wheel of Fortune or Phantom Theatre. A couple of the old shows like say Celebration and the clown band brought back. Those are all smaller ideas due to COVID-19 destroying revenue this year. Would Love another New Coaster but, understand finances might be tight over the next couple years. Went to the park on year 1 and looking forward to year 50 and Hopefully year 75. See ya Saturday at the park.

  19. Bring back chocolate covered frozen bananas, red white and blue pops. But most importantly, Enchanted voyage!

  20. If a museum is not in the works . . I would like to see them post signs around the park marking historic spots with pictures and history. Maybe mark spots of former attractions/rides at their originally locations. Not permanent just for the 50th Anniversary season.

  23. B&M marketed Fury & Orion as giga coasters at their IAAPA booths.
    1 point
  24. People question it because its the 1st giga to have a 300ft drop but not have its highest peak crest the 300ft mark. If Orion was 300ft with a 287ft drop you'd have people saying its not a giga because the drop isn't 300ft. You fall 300ft regardless of height so its a giga.

  25. Same thing with Apollo's Chariot at Busch Gardens Williamsburg. No one questions that that ride is a hyper. Yet lots of people question Orion's designation. It doesn't make much sense in my opinion! Also, no one questions that Yukon Striker is the world's tallest dive coaster--a record that's broken by the drop, not the lift hill height.

  26. Cedar Fair themselves coined the term giga, so they have the authority to modify that definition as needed. As of 2020, they define a giga coaster as any coaster with a height or drop of at least 300 feet, the latter of which Orion has. If Orion is not a giga, then that means Phantom's Revenge at Kennywood (168 ft tall; 228-ft second drop) is not a hyper. I have not heard anyone question whether Phantom's Revenge is a hyper.

  27. Low capacity coasters haven't done well at KI in the past. See Ghoster Coaster and Firehawk. Backlot does okay now, but the lines for that thing were atrocious when it first opened. While KI and Kings Dominion are sister parks, Kings Island was the leader of the Paramount Parks when it comes to annual attendance and is a leader in the Cedar Fair world. I say keep the low capacity Mouses and 4D Free Spin types away from KI and save up for full scale coaster models. A low cost/capacity coaster might be more of a possibility now because of COVID though...
