  1. Following up on @JCJTheHurricane’s post, I can attest that the app isn’t always accurate but we ride ops try to approximate the best we can. I too wonder how the app works for wait times. I have lately been timing my waits and noting how long the line is, while also including factors like cleaning time. I have been fortunate to experience very few ride downtimes while noting such lines, so hopefully the notes I take will provide a fairly accurate reference of wait time under current protocols. My personal testament to the app not always being accurate comes from last October, when on crowded Haunt Saturdays, the app would say a 60- or 90-minute wait for Vortex, yet I clocked no more than 45 minutes in line. I kept my fellow ride ops updated on how long I waited in line (and I rode multiple times) so when the aforementioned rides office call would come, they could reply with the most accurate wait time estimate.

  2. Hey all, I saw on Youtube last night that F.L.Y at Phantasialand (Germany), the worlds first launched flying coaster has soft-opened! Personally, this idea is something I've dreamed about since I was a kid, and since the project took a few years to come into fruition, I was ecstatic when I saw it opened this soon (especially when you consider the current pandemic we are living in...). Check out these videos below: Besides it looking really cool, I had two immediate thoughts during/after watching: 1) it doesn't look that fast and 2) the seat configuration threw me off. I was expecting four across like a B&M, and when seeing the unique seating arrangement, I thought it was just a glorfyied invert (as I thought the seats somehow switched to regular after the launch). It took the second video to realize that yes, these people are actually flying (and not just during said launch)! And on the speed aspect, it's alright as this is the first of its kind; it's just cool that this is even a thing! What are your thoughts on this groundbreaking coaster? Would you like to see one of these come to the US? EDIT: Here is the RCDB page: https://rcdb.com/15201.htm EDIT2: I just realized that this concept occurred 20 years after the first (major) flying coaster opened at (then) Paramount's Great America. Stealth/Nighthawk is also a Vekoma. Look how far they've come...

  5. Since there hasn't been an annoucment yet I would really doubt I we will see any thing new. A couple of new small kids flat rides and maybe adding some shade in the area. I think of these could fit the area well. https://www.zamperla.com/products/happy-swing/

  6. I think the thrill level will be alright on ride. It looks amazing and even if it isn't the fastest it will still be fun. Firehawk only got up to 50 so I doubt this is much lower than that. Plus with you flying right by all the buildings and walls it will feel much faster than it is, as well as add to the excitement with all the interactions with scenery. This park has always been on my bucket list as the rides look great and the scenery and theming is amazing.

  7. Any word on crowd size today? It's cooler (which some love) but not the Fall Fest thing, but the last weekend of the later close. I'm struggling to make a guess

  10. Compared to Six Flags and Sea World, I'd say Cedar Fair isn't too much in the hole but that's just an assumption

  11. I had the misfortune of attending one of those days. It was a Saturday with temps in the 50s and NO tain. Around 2 PM they announced they were closing at 3. One of the poorest experiences ever at a park. But that’s what happens with cheap season passes. The parks don’t care if they upset the customers because they know they will come back with their pass. And if the park has mainly season pass holders in attendance, they Can close early because they already have the money they will get from them. Thsy one experience makes me now view Carowinds as being poorly managed like a Six Flags Park.

  13. IF Kings Island does make a 2021 announcement, I see it coming in either late September or October right before the end of the season. I think this makes the most sense because by announcing something this late they will be able to get as much out of their 2020 season as possible before looking ahead to next season. As for what a new addition could be, I agree that it may be something like the return of the Der Spinning Keggers. Remember for the Kings Mills Antique Autos, they sent out invitations for an announcement only the day before it was scheduled to be held, and they didn’t actually start construction until late in the season.

  14. That building is the France building on International Street, so it is appropriate that they have a French themed eatery there. Glad to see something there, as opposed to the closed Yogurt Plus stand.

  16. During their last quarterly conference call, CF said that they would announce their capital plans for 21 later in the year. It still would not surprise me to see some family flats come to KI. If you look at the success of the return of the Antiques and the Eagles it makes sense to think about adding more flats especially since family flats like the Keggers could run during Winterfest.

  17. Hopefully I can shed some light on how wait times are figured out. I'm not 100% sure if this is what the app uses but oftentimes throughout the day we will get a call from the rides office asking what our wait time is, then we give them a guesstimate. Also, how many Fast Lane each ride lets in is just based on the person at separator. There's no hard and fast rule for that sort of thing. However the park does limit how many Fast Lane tickets they give out each day.

  18. Okay. Here's how it will go: First you'll enter through the usual outdoor entrance. Now, here's where things might get a little different than the original ride. Instead of going straight into the room where the organist would usually be playing, you'll go into what is listed on the picture below as "Extended que line". Before getting close to the usual entrance to the building, you'll enter the "Pre-Show" building. Here, you'll be greeted by the owner of the theater. He might say something like this: "Hey! What are you people doing here! You're trespassing on my property! What's that!? How could you be trespassing on a property that hasn't been in operation for years you say? Well, if that's what you think, then why don't you go find out for yourself! Come on! Don't be shy! It's only, HhHhHh, THE PHANTOM THEATER! BUT, WHATEVER YOU DO, DON'T, GO INTO THE THEATER BASEMENT! It's completely off limits! Other than that, the rest of the theater is all yours to explore, EVEN THE BOILER ROOM! Just follow the maestro's instructions. He'll tell you the rest. NOW! LET THE TOUR OF THE PHANTOM THEATER, BEGIN!" After that, you'll leave the "Pre-Show" room and then go to the room where you'd be greeted by the the maestro playing the organ just like you would in the original ride that ran from 1992 to 2002. And just like the original attraction, what happened after meeting the maestro/ organist is still the same as usual.

  19. I think the money on the table is to find a way to stay open daily through Labor Day. Cedar Point has been (2020) excluded, very busy in the last two weeks of August, even mid week. The passholders renewal/new passes push helps with that, especially in the last 3 years with "buy now, get the rest of this year included" perks. People trying to get in one more summer trip or family activity, plus some schools in the surrounding areas starting later. With maybe 12-8 hours or similar, I think they'd do well. Could add a theme to make it more interesting.

  20. I think Soak City is underutilized during its respective off season. The park could host different events during the months that its not open. They could do the November idea like I mentioned earlier but they could also open themselves up to stuff in early spring before the park opens. The fact that its more detached from the park allows for them to be more independent and flexible when it comes to potentially hosting events.

  23. Ride times yesterday were some of the best I've experienced in a long time. Arrived at 10:30, waited about 15 minutes for Orion. I ended up riding it 4 more times throughout the day never waiting more than 5 minutes. Between 11-1, The Beast was a walk-on (the app said 60 minutes), Diamondback was about 5 minutes (the app said 30 minutes), Mystic Timbers was 10 minutes (the app said 90!!), and Stunt Coaster about 10. The Bat was pretty much a walk-on throughout the day (at least the few times I was down there), Banshee was about 5 minutes. The longest wait the whole day for us was Diamondback at around 4:00 where we waited about 20 minutes. I'm not sure exactly why wait times were so low, but I'm guessing that a combination of being the weekend after a holiday and the start of NFL season. I think The Racer might be closed for the season?

  24. Universal is dropping the empty rows on coasters now. One party per row, but they no longer leave an empty row. They are seeing huge crowds and needed to do something to get people moving.
